There are twelve principal religious systems, of which six are approved and six rejected by the Saiva sect. 1. உட் சமையம், or the six systems considered orthodox by the Saivas are. 1. வைரவம், making Bhairava supreme. 2. வாமம், regarding the female principle in nature, as the primeval form of deity, and teaching the worship of the generative female organ. 3. காளாமுகம், similar to the வாமம். 4. மாவிரதம், teaching that the deity is a pure spirit. 5. பாசுபதம், similar to மாவிரதம். 6. சைவம், Saivism, which teaches that the deity is both spirit and matter; assuming forms for accomplishing his purposes. II. புறச்சமயம், or the six heterodox systems; viz.:-- 1. உலகாயதம். A species of Atheism regarding sensual gratifications as the chief good, as taught by the atheistical school of Charvaka. 2. புத் தம். Bhuddism, which rejects the notion of a Supreme being, maintains that all material existences proceed from a fortuitous combination of the four primitive elements, (earth, water, fire, and air,) and that mental phenomena are the mere results of organization. It regards Bhudd as a deified teacher and object of worship. 3. சமணம். The Jaina system which is a modification of Bhuddism, and regards Argha as the deified preceptor and object of worship. 4. மீமாஞ்சை. A system that regards Brahm as the soul of the universe. 5. பாஞ்சாரத்திரம். A system taught by Vishnu, during five successive nights. 6. பாட்டாசாரியம். The system of Battacharya whose followers regard the Vedas as god, and consider that virtuous actions of themselves result in felicity. III. Other systems derived from these twelve or in some respects similar to them are very numerous, some of them are கபாலம், சவுத்திராந்திகம், யோகசாரணம், ஆத்துமிகம், வைபாடிகம், நிகண்டவா தம், நையாயிகம், வைசேஷிகம், பதஞ்சலியம், சாங்கியம், சித்தாந்தம், வேதாந்தம், &c. The six orthodox systems among the Vaishnuvas are 1. யாதவம், that of Yádava Misra. 2. மாயாவாதம், that by Sankarachárya. 3. இரணியகர்ப்பம், that by Hiranyagarbha. 4. இராமானுசீயம், that by Rámánuja. 5. பாஸ்கரம், that by Bhaskara. 6. தத்துவவாதம், that by Mádhavácharya. சமயகருமம், s. Bigotry, enthusiasm, conceit in religion. சமயமதங்கொண்டாட, inf. To be enthusiastic, to act the bigot. சமயமானம், s. A natural regard to one's own religion. (c.) 2. (Rott.) Constancy or firmness in a religion. சந்நியாசிக்குஞ் சாதிமானஞ் சமயமானம்விடாது.... The ascetic who has relinquished every thing will not relinquish his caste or sect. சமயவாதம், s. Religious controversy. சமயவாதி, s. A disputant for religion. 2. A professor of religion. சமயாசாரம், s. The rites and ceremonies, of a religion according to a prescribed institute. 2. Religious practice, observance of rites. (c.) சமயாதீதன், s. The supreme Being-as transcending all religions, சமயங்கடந்த கடவுள். (p.) சமயி, s. [com. சமயத்தான்.] A religionist, a sectarian, the follower of any religion, sect, &c., a sectary. (p.) சமயமாயிருக்கையில், [adverbially.] At a particular juncture, in an emergency. சமயங்கடத்த, inf. [prov.] To while away time, to loiter. சமயங்கிடைக்க, inf. To obtain an opportunity. (c.) சமயங்கெட்டவேளை, s. An unseasonable time. (Limited usage.) சமயத்துக்குதவ, inf. To help in an emergency. சமயம்பார்க்க--சமயந்தேட, inf. To watch an opportunity. சமயாசமயம், s. Urgent or pressing occasion, unfavorable opportunity. (c.) தற்சமயம், s. The very juncture or moment. 2. A special opportunity. நற்சமயம், s. A good opportunity. சமயந்தப்பிவந்தான். He came unseasonably. சமயத்திலே கையைவிரித்தான். He refrained from helping in time of need. 2) *

Artificial cock's spurs, gaffles. சாவற்சூட்டு--சாவற் கொண்டை, s. Cock's comb. சாதிச்சாவல், s. A cock of a superior brood. See under சாதி. நாட்டுச்சாவல், s. A country cock, or one inferior. 35)

cimiṭṭu (p. 185) கிறேன், சிமிட்டினேன், வேன், சிமிட்ட, v. a. To make a signal with the eyes or by kmtting the eye brows; to cock or twist the eye, கண்சிமிட்ட. 2. To twinkle the eyes excessively, either naturally or through weakness; to blink, கண் ணிமைக்க. 3. To deceive artfully, to impose upon by stratagem, or sleight of hand, வஞ்சிக்க. (c.) சிமிட்டிகாட்ட, inf. To make a signal with the eyes. சிமிட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய்விட்டான். He artfully defrauded the person. சிமிட்டிவிழிக்க, inf. To twinkle the eyes naturally, or as a sign. சிமிட்டி, s. (fem.) An artful woman, a woman of loose character. (Rare.) சிமிட்டு, v. noun. Twinkling from weakness of the eyes, இமைப்பு. 2. A dexterous trick, unperceived motion, sleight of hand, &c., கைச்சிமிட்டு. 3. Unsubstantial or slight work, spuriousness, கள்ளவேலை. சிமிட்டுக்கண், s. Twinkling eyes. சிமிட்டுக்கண்ணன், s. A blinkard from weak eyes, &c. சிமிட்டுக்கள்ளி, s. As சிமிட்டி. (c.) சிமிட்டுப்பார்வை, s. Continual twinkling of the eyes. சிமிட்டுவித்தை, s. As சிமிட்டு, 2. சிமிட்டுவேலை, s. (c.) திருகுதாளக்காரன், s. (also திருகுதாளி, masc. and fem.) A knave, a trickish person. திருகுபனைமுகிழ், s. The whole upper integument of a palmyra fruit twisted off. See முகிழ். திருகுமணை--திருகரிவாள்மணை, s. [improp for துருவுமணை.] An instrument for crushing cocoa-nuts. திருகுமரம், s. A twisted or crooked tree. 2. A turnstile. திருகுமுகம், s. An averted, unfavorable countenance. திருகுமுகமாயிருக்க, inf. To be displeased so as to avert the face. 2. To form a favorable crisis, as a disease. திருகுவட்டம், s. nccu (p. 267) s. Desire, lust, hankering, craving, &c., ஆசை. (சது.) 2. Babble, தொனுப்பு. [Tel. usage.] 3. adj. Little, small, சிறிய. 4. [oblique of நஞ்சு, as an adjec.] Poisonous. venomous, baneful. நச்சுக்கண், s. A poisonous eye, that blights whatever it looks upon. நச்சுக்கத்தி, s. A poisoned knife. 2. (fig.) A very wicked person, கெட்டவன். நச்சுக்காற்று, s. An unhealthy wind. See காற்று. நச்சுக்குழல், s. [vul.] A long tube for shooting birds with clay pellets, புட்ப டுக்குங்குழல். 2. A telescope, துரதிஷ்டிக்க ண்ணாடி. நச்சுக்கொடி, s. The after-birth, secundines, as நஞ்சுக்கொடி.(c.) நச்சுக்கொடிச்சுண்ணம், s. A medical powder made of the after-birth, administered in cholera, விஷபேதிச்சூரணம். நச்சுச்சொல், s. Blighting words, தீச் சொல். 2. Malicious, envious or sarcastic language, கடுஞ்சொல். 3. A malign word in poetic composition supposed to ber injurious to the hero, வசைச்சொல். நச்சுத்தானம், s. [in erotics.] Parts of the female body which if touched by men on certain days of the moon, are supposed to produce disgust, அமுதநி லைக்கேழாமிடம். நச்சுநீர், s. Poisonous water, விஷநீர். நச்சுப்படைக்கலம், s. Poisoned weapons. (p.) நச்சுப்பல், s. The poisonous fang of a snake. (c.) நச்சுப்பல்லி, s. A spotted kind of wall-lizard, whose excrement is used in witcheraft. 2. The chirp of a lizard from a direction which prognosticates evil, and causes one leaving home to turn back. 3. A woman whose words are malignant. நச்சுப்பல்லிபோலேதடுக்கிறான். He stops one like an ominous lizard. நச்சுப்பார்வை, s. Bewitching, amorous, libidinous looks, ogling, மோகப்பார்வை. (p.) 2. A blighting, ominous look, கண் ணேறு. 3. An angry, maliciouse appearance, கோபப்பார்வை. நச்சுப்பால், s. The poisonous milky juice of the spurge-class of shrubs. கள்ளிப்பால். 2. First thick milk of a woman or beast, சீம்பால். 3. Milk that does not agree with the young, இணங்கா தபால். நச்சுப்புகை, s. Poisonous smoke or fumigation from burning poisonous reptiles or vegetables. நச்சுப்பூடு, s. A poisonous herb. நச்சுப்பொடி, s. A poisonous powder, விஷத்தூள். 2. A small-fish, ஓர்சிறுமீன். நச்சுப்பொய்கை, s. Poisonous water of a tank. (p.) நச்சுமரம், s. A poisonous tree, எட்டி, Strychnos, nus-vomica, L. நச்சுமரமாயினும்நட்டவன்வெட்டுவானோ..... Though the tree be poisonous will the planter cut it up; i. e. though a man be evil, his patron is not the one to reject him. நச்சுமருந்து, s. Poisonous medicine. நச்சுமழை, s. An unhealthy or pernicious rain being untimely, not plentiful, &c., காலந்தப்பியமழை. நச்சுவாக்கு, s. Malign words of some particular poets. நச்சுவாய், s. The mouth of one whose words are blighting, விஷவாக்கு. நச்சுவிறகு, s. Poisonous fuel, used in witchcraft, &c. நச்செண்ணெய், s. A kind of poisonous oil, for curing sores, விஷதைலம். நச்செலி, s. A kind of rat whose bite is poisonous, sometimes fatal. (c.) நச்செழுத்து, s. Letters which may be so placed, in poetic composition, as to be considered ominous; as in the first word of the poem, or other important places, they are, ய, ர, ள, யா, யோ, ரா, லா, லோ, also உயிரளபெடை, ஒற்றளபெடை, மகரக்கு றுக்கம், and ஆய்தக்குறுக்கம். 25)

A radish, Raphanus sativus. முள்ளங்கிக்கிழங்கு, s. Its root used for curry. முள்ளங்கிழங்கு, s. A hard and inferior kind of yam. முள்ளஞ்சங்கு, s.
