akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. The seat of fire in the system--the abdomen. அக்கினிமந்தம், s. Indigestion. அக்கினிமலை, s. A volcanic mountain. அக்கினிமிதிக்க, inf. To tread on fire, one of the thirty-two kinds of selftorture. அக்கினிமூலை, s. The south-east region. அக்கினியாதேயம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம், sacrifices. அக்கினியாஸ்திரம், s. A kind of arrow, ஓரத்திரம், (c.) அக்கினியோகம், s. An inauspicious conjunction of the days of the week with the tithi திதி, as follows: 1. When the 5th or 11th tithi, Lunar day (திதி) occurs on Monday. 2. When the 5th tithi occurs on Wednesday. 3. When the 6th or 9th occurs on Thursday. 4. When the 8th or 1th occurs on Friday. 5. (5.) ஆகருட ணம், summoning or invoking a spirit or absent person visibly into one's presence. (6.) வித்துவேடணம், excitment to hatred. (7.) பேதனம், causing separation, dissension, discord. Treachery, treason, villainy துரோகஞ்செய்யல். கருமநிவிர்த்தி, s. Ceremonies performed to expiate the evil deeds of former births in times of disease, &c. கருமபந்தம்--கருமபந்தனம், s. The tie or vinculum, கருமபாசம், Which connects the actions of a former birth with their fruits in after transmigrations. Wils. p. 198. KARMMABANTHANA. கருமபாகை, s. One of the three parts of the Vedas, relating to daily ceremonial rites, வேதத்தின்பொருட்பாகுபாட் டிலொன்று. See ஞானபாகை, and அருத்தபாகை. கருமபூமி, s. Prescribed funeral rites for deceased ancestors, அந்தியேட்டிமுதலிய சடங்கு. கருமாதிகாரன், s. A ruler, a governor, கருமத்தலைவன். கருமாதிசெய்ய, inf. To perform funeral rites. கருமாத்துமா, s. Partiality, bias, want of mental equilibrium, நடுநிலையின்மை. 2. Inequality. சமமுகம், s. One of the fourteen expressions of the countenance, that of the head erect and fixed--as in contemplation, deep thought, &c., தியானிப் பதுபோற்றலையசைவின்மை. See முகம். சமம்பாவிக்க, inf. [loc.] To attempt a similar act, pursuit, &c--as a rival; to emulate, vie, எதிர்பாவிக்க. சமயுத்தம், s. An equal contest, an engagement in which neither party is victorious. சமரசம், s. Peace, tranquillity, சமா தானம்; [ex சமம், calm, et ரசம், state.] 2. Reconciliation, agreement, the act of reconciling opinions, views. &c., seemingly repugnant, சமாதானஞ்சொல்லல். 3. A royal car or chariot of war of the third order, that next above, அத்தரதம், and next below மாரதம். See இரதம். சமரதர், s. Warriors fighting in a சமரதம் car, defending themselves and the army equally. A flag of truce, or of peace. சமாதானக்கட்டுப்பாடு, v. noun. Social bond or union. சமாதானத்தினாவி, s. [in Christian usage.] The spirit of peace. சமாதானப்பட--சமாதானமாக, inf. To be tranquil, peaceable, quiescent. 2. To consent, சம்மதிக்க. சமாதானப்படுத்த--சமாதானம்பண்ண, inf. To quiet, calm, assuage, tranquillize. 2. To placate, to pacify, to compose, soothe. 3. cuḷukku (p. 198) கிறது, சுளுக்கினது, ம், சுளுக்க, v. n. To be sprained or strained, as a joint, to be displaced, deranged, &c, as a ligament, கை கால் முதலியன சுளுக்க. (c.) நரம்புசுளுக்கிக்கொண்டது.....The tendon is strained. சுளுக்கு, v. noun. A sprain, straining the ligaments of a joint, luxation. சுளுக்குப்பார்க்க, inf. [prov.] To use enchantment for curing a sprain. சுளுக்குமந்திரம், s. A mantra for a sprain. சுளுக்குருவ--சுளுக்குவழிக்க, inf. To rub a sprained limb with oil, ashes, leaves, &c., using incantation. சுளுக்குவழிக்கிறவன்--சுளுக்கெடுக்கிற வன், appel. n. One who cures sprains. சுளுக்கெடுக்க, inf. A curve, or bend, வளைவு. (c.) தட்டடித்தல், v. noun. Cutting out or making a notch or mortise in the edge of a board. தட்டுக்கொடி, s. [prov.] A kind of paper kite with eight angles. தட்டகப்பை, s. A spoon used in cooking rice-cakes. Compare சட்டகப்பை. தட்டுச்சுளகு, s. A broad, shallow, winnowing fan, commonly square. தட்டுச்சுற்று, v. noun. Waving a salver with burning camphor before an idol. சோற்றுத்தட்டு, s. A perforated cover for straining congy water from boiled rice. பூந்தட்டு, s. A salver for presenting flowers. தட்டுமணி, s. A necklace of ornamented squares of gold. தட்டுமூட, inf. To join a mortise, a seam, &c. தட்டுவைக்க, inf. To attach snares to the squares, to catch birds. 2. To give one a knock on the head, to give a tap. தட்டுக்கிளி--தட்டுக்கிழி, s. A kind of jumping play from square to square. 2. The squares of the play. தட்டுக்கிளிபாய--தட்டுப்பாய, inf. To jump in தட்டுக்கிளி play. தட்டுக்கூடை, s. A broad, shallow basket. தட்டுப்பனாட்டு, s. [prov.] Well dried cakes of palmyra jelly. தட்டுமுட்டு, s. tampaṉam (p. 224) --ஸ்தம்பனம், s. (sometimes தம்பம்.) Stopping, restraining, hindering the power of fire; stopping a flow of water or blood; checking the ferocity of wild beasts; causing a person or spirit to stand immovably in a place; suppressing bodily faculties; depriving one of the power of speech, action, motion; suspending natural qualities, அசைவறநிறுத்துகை.-There are different kinds, as அக்கினித்தம்ப னம், கட்கத்தம்பனம், சலத்தம்பனம், சுக்கிலத்தம்ப னம், திஷ்டித்தம்பனம், பூதத்தம்பனம், வாயுத்தம்பனம், which see in their places, as given with ஸ்தம்பம் termination and in கலைஞானம். தம்பனகாரன்--தம்பனவித்தைக்காரன், s. A magician, a conjurer who exercises magic powers to stop or restrain as above. தம்பனக்குளிகை, s. A magical pill. See குளிகை. தம்பனவித்தை. That art of restraining by magic. கன்னத்தம்பனம், s.
