To apply, resort, betake one's self to a person for support, protection, to come or be near, or in contact with, to lean on or join one's self to a thing, சார. 3. To use qualifying terms, phrases, adjuncts, &c., அடைகொடுக்க. 4. To lay a wager, to gamble, பந்தயம்வைக்க. 5. To permit, suffer, allow, let, இடங்கொடுக்க. 6. To increase length or breath by addition, to add to, சேர்க்க. 7. To grow lean, be withered, shrunk, &c., to have the skin stick to the bones, be shrivelled as a fruit, &c., சுருங்க. 8. To stand near a wall, a pillar, &c., in order to over-hear, to way-lay, &c., விசேஷங்கேட்கவொளித்துநிற்க. சுட்டமண்ணும்பச்சைமண்ணுமொட்டாது. Burnt earth will not adhere to that which is fresh. ஒட்டி யுலர்வாருறவு. That is friendship which adheres to and suffers with one, lit. which dries with one as the flowers in the tank. இதுனக்கொட்டுமோ. oru (p. 83) adj. [changed from ஒன்று, which is the root.] Before vowels and sometimes before consonants, the உ often is dropped and the ஒ lengthened--as ஓரிலை, a leaf. In some connexions and with appropriate emphasis, it means sameness, singularity, peculiarity, specialness, celebrity, &c. ஒருகூடுமுடைந்தவனொன்பதுகூடுமுடைவான். . . . . A kind of spasmodic affection, attended with severe convulsions sometimes attacking women after childbirth. குதிரைப்பட்டை, s. [local.] A beam, placed under the roof of a house to support the tiles. குதிரைமுகம், s. The prop of an embankment. 2. (Rott.) The shin-bone, நளகம். குதிரைப்பற்பாஷாணம், s. May you be stabbed--an imprecation. ஒருகுத்துச்சோறு. A double handful of boiled rice, with the hands thrust in perpendicularly. குத்துமி, s. Husk--as separated from rice by pounding. குத்துவெட்டு, s. Stabbing and maiming. --either in scuffles, robbery or war. 2. Dots and strokes--as erasures, பிழைபட் டதைக்கிறுக்கித்தள்ளல். குத்துப்பாடு, v. noun. Censuring or charging one with a fault; violent contention; lit. piercing, retortion. அந்தவேலைமேற்குத்துப்பாடுசொல்லுகிறான். He finds fault with the work. குத்துக்காயம், s. One stabbed, குத்துண்ட வன். 2. A mean, vagabond, shameless fellow. குத்துப்பட்டுவிழ, inf. To fall, or drop down pierced. குத்துக்குநிற்க, inf. To stand on points, each urging his own reasons; to contend, to oppose-as rivals. 2. To haggle in dealing. குத்துகால்-குத்துக்கால், s. The uprights of a frame-as of a car; a piece of furniture, support, தாங்குகால். குத்துக்காலிட, inf. To sit or lie with bent legs; [ex குந்து.] குத்துக்கால்நாட்ட, inf. To fix or plant the uprights. குத்தாய்நிற்கிறமலை, s. A mountain standing perpendicularly. குத்துவிளக்கு, s. Standing lamp, a brass candlestick. குத்துக்கல்-குத்்தாங்கல், s. A perpendicular stone. குத்துக்கல்லாய்வைக்க, inf. To build with bricks set upon the edge. குத்துக்குளம்பு, s. The hoof of oxen, horse, &c., falling perpendicularly, not spreading-regarded as a good species for speed. குத்துப்பாறை, s. Small, perpendicular heaps of stones in the vicinity of a rock. 2. [local.] The horizontal part of a rock where women pound paddy. குத்துப்போர், s. The first layer of sheaves of corn in a stack, placed with the ears uppermost, நிறுத்திட்டமாய் வைக்குஞ் சூடு. 2. Boxing, fisticuffs, மற்போர். குத்துப்புள், s. [prov.] The place where the புள் stick falls perpendicularly in the கிட்டிபுள்ளு game. குத்தெனவீழ, inf. [prov.] To fall headlong, தலைகீழாய்விழ. 2. To fall in a perpendicular position, நிறுதிட்டமாய்விழ. செங்குத்தானமலை, s. A perpendicular hill; a precipice. மூங்கிற்குத்து, s. As தட்டல்த டவல், which see. தட்டாயிருக்க, inf. To be destitute, to be in straits. செலவுக்குத்தட்டாயிருக்கிறது. We are in want of the means of subsistence. தட்டுக்கொட்டு, v. noun. [prov.] Exterior show without accomplishing one's wish. 2. A bauble, gew-gaw. 3. Living by stratagem, &c. தட்டுத்தடக்கு, v. noun. Hesitation, impediment. தட்டுத்தடக்கில்லாமல்வாசிக்கிறான். There are different kinds of crabs, as ஒருகால்நண்டு, a kind with one claw only, taken for the கணை disease; கடல் நண்டு, sea crab, Pagurus; கடுக்காய்நண்டு-சூக்காய்நண்டு, small crabs used in broth and taken for dropsical swellings as promoting urinary discharges, குளநண்டு, small tank crabs; செம்பாறைநண்டு--பெருநண்டு, a large red kind, தில்லைநண்டு, a black lobster found under the தில்லை tree on the sea shore; நீலக்காலிநண்டு, blue legged crab; பீநண்டு. common crabs found in the holes of moist grounds; வயல்நண்டு--கழனிநண்டு, fresh water crabs found in the fields; வெள்ளை நண்டு--பால்நண்டு, a whitish kind. The middle letter sometimes changes to ட் Such compounds are mostly of Jaffna. நட்டுச்சினை--நண்டுச்சினை, s. Crab's spawn. நட்டுச்சினைக்கல், s. A kind of stone in wells of the color of crab's spawn. indicative of a good supply of water. நட்டுச்சினைமண், s. A kind of earth of the color of crab's spawn. நட்டோடு, s. As நண்டோடு. நட்டோட்டுக்கிட்டம், s. A crust or coat of dry mud formed over a brackish or moist soil. நட்டோட்டுப்பார், s. A thin coat or lamina of rock that easly splits off. நண்டின்பெருங்கால், s. The large claws of a crab. நண்டுக்கல், s. A kind of petrified lobster used as a charm against poisonous bites, and in cases of strangury, &c. நண்டுக்காற்கீரை, s. A kind of eatable greens, Bergera verticillata. நண்டுக்காற்புல், s. A kind of grass, Isch&ae;mum aristatum. நண்டுக்கொடுக்கு, s. The forceps of a lobster. நண்டுக்கோது, s. Refuse of lobsters, as the shell, &c. நண்டுத்தெறுக்கால், s. As நட்டுவக்காலி நண்டுச்சினை, s. See நட்டுச்சினை. நண்டூருகால், s. Small legs of a crab. நண்டோடு, s. A lobster shell. 8)
