Three species of magical ointments, viz., பூதாஞ்சனம், that which assists in discovering whether a person is possessed or not; சோராஞ் சனம், that which assists in discovering stolen property; and பாதாளாஞ்சனம், that which assists in discovering treasure buried under ground. அஞ்சனபாஷாணம், s. añcu (p. 7) s. Five. See ஐந்து. அஞ்சாம்வருணம், s. The fifth caste, Pariahs, &c. அஞ்சாலியிடையர், s. [prop. அஞ் சார இடையர்.] A tribe of cowherds; whose women wear, in their marriage neck jewel, five ornaments, or ஐந்தாலி. அஞ்சாரப்பெட்டி, s. [prop. அஞ்ச றைப்பெட்டி.] A box that has five compartments, one in the middle and four surrounding, made of palmyra leaves or other materials for containing flowers, spices, &c. அஞ்சுருவாணி, s. (as அச்சுருவா ணி.) An iron bolt passing through the five tiers of a car. அஞ்சுமூன்றுமுண்டானாலறியாப்பெண்ணுங் கறி யாக்கும். Even a young girl will be able to make a curry, when she has the following three and five things, viz., புளி, souring; மிளகு, pepper; உப்பு, salt; கடுகு, mustard; and சீரகம், cumin--which are the five; and the three are நீர், water; நெருப்பு; fire; and விறகு, fire-wood--said by an angry husband to his wife when the curry is not good. பூதங்கள் அஞ்சும் அகத்தேங்கும். The five elements will laugh within themselves. (குறள்.) 43)
