akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. A secret place in the waistcloth, உள்மடி. அடிமடை, s. The commencement of a water channel, முதல்மடை. அடிமண், s. The earth adhering to one's feet, taken for enchantments against him (வசியம்) or for witchcraft, காலிலொட்டியமண். அடிமயக்கு, s. Transposing the lines of a verse without destroying the sense, அடிமாற்றுகை. 2. A verse so formed, ஓர்பா, as, அங்கண்மதியமரவின்வாய்ப்பட்டென்ப, பூசல்வாயாப்புலம்புமனைகலங்கி. அடிமறிமண்டிலவாசிரியப்பா, s. One of the four kinds of ஆசிரியம், the lines of which are interchangeable at pleasure, the meaning remaining the same, ஓர்வகையாசிரியப்பா. அடிமறிமாற்றுப்பொருள்கோள், s. Construction in which the lines of a stanza are interchangeable, the harmony and meaning remaining the same, or the harmony only slightly affected. See பொருள்கோள், as, சுரையாழவம்மிமிதப்பவரையனை ய, யானைக்குநீத்துமுயற்குநிலையென்ப கானகநாடன் சுனை. அடிமுகனை, s. [vul.] Beginning-as of a story, &c. அடிமுடி, s. Order, regularity, வர லாறு. 2. From beginning to end, ஆதியந் தம். 3. Upside down, கீழ்மேல். 4. Head and foot, காலுந்தலையும். அடிமுரண்டொடை, s. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which the first word of a line has a meaning opposite to that of the next, செய்யுட்டொடை யிலொன்று, as, இருள்பரந்தன்னமாநீர்மருங்கின், நிலவுகுவித்தன்னவெண்மணலொருசிறை, where darkness and moonlight are opposite. அடிமோனைத்தொடை, s. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which each line begins with the same letter, ஓர் வகை மோனைத்தொடை. அடியடியாக, adv. [prov.] In succession, as the descent of title, &c., தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக. அடியந்தாதி, s. A repetition in verse. See அந்தாதி. அடியளபெடை, s. Prolonging the sounds of long vowels at the beginning of every line, தொடைவிகற்பத்தொன்று. அடியறுக்கி, s. A flat piece of wood by which the potter marks his work and cuts it from the wheel below, மட்கலமறுக்குங்கருவி. அடியனாதி, s. Time immemorial, antiquity, தொன்றுதொட்டுள்ளகாலம். அடியார், s. [sing. அடியான்--அடி யாள்.] Slaves, servants as applied to devotees in reference to their deity, and used by persons of themselves in addressing superiors, to show respect, obedience or submission, தொண்டர். அடியிட, inf. To set on foot, commence an undertaking, a law suit, &c., தொடங்க. 2. To make a beginning in braiding--as the bottom of a basket, the first end of a mat, &c., பாய்முதலியவை முடைதற்கு அடியிட. அடியுரம், s. [prov.] Ancestral property, original stock. 2. Crop of a past year reserved for the sustenance of the following. 3. Manure put on the soil round a tree, &c., எரு. 4. Strength from food, power of wealth, &c.; ex உரம், strength. அடியெடுத்துவைக்க, inf. To begin to walk as children. அடியெதுகைத்தொடை, s. One of the forty-three kinds of rhymes in which the second letters of each line are of the same class, ஓரெதுகைத்தொடை. அடியேன், s. I your slave, your humble servant. அடியோடுகெட, inf. To be destroyed utterly, extirpated. அடியோட்டி, s. A triangular instrument with spikes, which, however placed, has one spike upward to pierce the feet of men or cattle; used in war, &c., a caltrop. அடிவயிறு, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை, in which the first word in every foot of a line, except the penultimate, has different meanings, முரண் டொடை. கீழ்க்கதுவாய்மோனை, s. kuṉmam (p. 132) s. A disease, a chronic enlargement of the spleen; also, any glandular enlargement in the abdomen--as of the mesenteric gland, &c., causing indigestion, colic and great emaciation. There are eight kinds, viz: எரிகுன்மம், சத்திகுன்மம், சன்னிகுன் மம், சிலேட்டுமகுன்மம், குலைக்குன்மம், பித்தகுன்மம், வலிகுன்மம், வாதகுன்மம், which see severally. 2. A division of an army. Thin watery butter-milk, with other ingredients, used as a beverage. நீர்வஞ்சி, s. A kind of ratan, ஓர்வகை ப்பிரம்பு. நீர்வண்டு, s. A water-fly. நீர்வல்லி, s. The betel-creeper, வெற் றிலைக்கொடி. நீர்வழுக்கை, s. A kind of water-plant, ஓர்நீர்ப்பூடு, Myriophyllum foliosum, L. நீர்வளம், s. Abundance of water, நீர் நிறைவு. நீர்வள்ளி, s. A medicinal creeper, தண் நீர்மீட்டான். 2. As நீர்வல்லி. நீர்வற்ற, inf. To dry up, as water, &c. நீர்வற்றம், v. noun. Ebb of tide. நீர்வற்றல், s. Any thing in which the juice is evaporated by drying, சாரம்வற்றி யது. நீர்வாத்து, s. A kind of fen-duck, or water-bird, ஓர்தாரா, Anas boschos. நீர்வாரம், s. Rice that grows by tanks or in marshy ground, குளநெல். Compare நீவாரம். நீர்வாழுஞ்சாதி, s. Aquatic creatures, நீர்வாழ்வன. 2. Fishermen, those who live by the sea, நெய்தனிலமாக்கள். நீர்வாழ்வன, appel. n. [pl.] Creatures that live in water, aquatics. நீர்விட்டான், s. See நீர்மீட்டான். நீர்விட்டுப்போக, inf. To become watery, thin, &c., by keeping too long, by fermentation, as honey, நீர்த்துப்போக. நீர்விழ, inf. To exist as water in a gem, giving it lustre; shade of color, ரத்னகாந்திதளம்ப. நீர்விளையாட, inf. To play in water. நீர்வேட்கை, v. noun. Thirst, நீர்த்தாகம். 266)

pẕu (p. 302) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To ripen, to mature, to arrive at perfection, as fruits, grain &c., முதிர. 2. To suppurate, to ripen as a boil, பருக்கனிய. 3. To become grey or hoary, நரைக்க. 4. To change color by age, as ivory or horn; to become pale or yellowish, as the body by disease; to become soiled as the teeth by disease, நிறமாற. 5. To grow mature in knowledge, science, piety; to become fit for bliss, பக்குவமாக. 6. To take a fine blooming color, as gold, பொன்பழுக்க. 7. To become flabby and weak, as the abdomen of a woman after childbirth, through want of stimulants, &c., வயிறுபழுக்க. 8. (fig.) To obtain success, அனுகூலப்பட; also used in irony. அவனுக்குநரைத்துப்பழுத்தது. He is grown grey, from age. பழுக்கச்சுட, inf. To color gold on. the fire, by various ingredients, &c. See சுடு, v. பழுக்கப்போட, inf. To force the ripening of fruits by covering them with straw, &c. 2. To wait the maturity of some great event. பழுக்கவிட, inf. To let fruit ripen on the tree. பழுக்கவைக்க, inf. To put fruits to ripen. பழுத்தகதிர், s. A ripe ear or corn. பழுத்தபழம், s. A yellow ripe fruit, முதிர்ந்தகனி. 2. (fig.) An aged person, முதிர்கிழவன். 3. One mature for liberation from births, பக்குவன். 4. [prov.] One well learned in all kinds of wickedness, &c., மிகுவஞ்சகன்.--For the proverb, see கொம்பு. பழுத்துப்போக, inf. As பழு, v. பழுப்பு, v. noun. Ripeness Yellowness of fruits, change of color, blooming or natural color in gold, as the verb. பழுப்பரிசி, s. Rice turned yellow, or brown, by neglect in drying. பழுப்புப்பொன், s. Gold of a bright yellow hue. பழுப்பேற, inf. To be colored by the goldsmith's art. பழுப்படைய, inf. To contract a yellowish color, as grain.

maṇṭalam (p. 341) s. Circle, sphere, orbit, disc, வட்டம். 2. Disc of the sun or moon. 3. A great circle--as the equator or ecliptic, கிராந்திமண்டலம். 4. A region, world-as of the sun, moon, or clouds, as சத்த மண்டலம். 5. Any circular, or elliptical figure, வலயம். 6. Coil, as of a snake or rope, பாம்புச்சுற்று. W. p. 633. MAN'DALA. 7. These are; 1. அக்கினிமண்டலம், that of fire, in the lower abdomen; 2. ஆதித்த மண்டலம், of the sun, in the stomach and heart; 3. சந்திரமண்டலம், of the moon, in the head and shoulders. See these words. சத்தமண்டலம் or மண்டலம், 7. Seven regions in the universe. These are; 1. வாயுமண்டலம், of wind; 2. வருணமண்டலம், of water; 3. சந்திரமண்டலம், of the moon; 4. சூரியமண்டலம், of the sun; 5. நட்சத்திர மண்டலம், of the stars; 6. அக்கினிமண்ட லம், of Agni, fire; 7. திரிசங்குமண்டலம், of திரிசங்கு or the Southern cross; which see. மண்டலநிலை, s. The second of the four attitudes in archery. See நிலை. மண்டலமழை, s. Rain extending through the country. மண்டலம்போட--மண்டலமிட, inf. To form into circles or coils, as a snake. 2. To pass round one another--as combatants, or as birds, &c., in a circle, சுற்றிச்சுற்றிவர. 3. To make ornamental, astrological or mystic diagrams, commonly of a circular figure, யந்திரம்வகுக்க. மண்டலவிதி, s. Directions for making diagrams, for worship, &c. மண்டலபுருடன், s. [also called வீரமண் டலவன்.] A Jaina ascetic equally eminent as a poet and lexicographer. His poetic lexicon சூடாமணிநிகண்டு, outshines all similar productions in Tamil. He also wrote an epic poem in honor of Argha, ஓர்நிகண்டாசிரியன். மண்டலாகாரம், s. A circular figure, course, &c., வட்டவடிவம். மண்டலாபிஷேகம், s. A daily anointing of an idol for forty days, after the கும்பாபிஷேகம் or other ceremony. மண்டலார்த்தம், s. Semicircle, அர்த்த கோளம். 2. Semidiameter, பாதிவிட்டம். மண்டலீகர், s. [pl.] Kings, sovereigns of a limited reign, அரசர். (சது.) மண்டலேசன், s. An emperor, an independent monarch, உலகாதிபதி; [ex ஈசன்.] மண்டலேசுரன்--மண்டலேச்சுவரன், s. An independent sovereign. 2.
