The metrical feet are thirty, divided into five classes, viz.: 1. உரிச்சீர், or ஆசிரியவுரிச்சீர், feet peculiar to the அகவல் verse--as (a.) தேமா, foot of two simple syllables, a spondee. (b.) புளிமா, one compound and one simple syllable; an iambus. (c.) கருவி ளம். Two compound syllables, a pyrrhic. (d.) கூவிளம். One simple and one compound syllable, a trochee. The names serve also as models for the kinds of feet respectively. They are names of trees and their fruits. 2. வெண்சீர், or வெண்பாஉரி ச்சீர். Feet peculiar to வெண்பா verse; as (a.) தே-மாங்-காய். A foot of three simple syllables. (b.) புளி-மாங்-காய். One compound and two simples. (c.) கரு-விளங்--காய். Two compounds and one simple; an anap&ae;st. (d.) கூ-விளங்-காய். A simple, a compound and a simple. 3. வஞ்சியுரிச்சீர், or வஞ்சிச்சீர். Feet peculiar to வஞ்சி verse; as (a.) தே-மா ங்-கனி. A foot of two simple syllables and one compound. (b.) புளி-மாங்-கனி. One compound, one simple, and one compound; an amphibrach. (c.) கரு-விளங்கனி. Three compounds, a tribrach. (d.) கூவிளங்-கனி. One simple and two compound syllables. 4. பொதுச்சீர். Feet of four syllables peculiar to வஞ்சி verse; there are sixteen of them; the models for these are formed by adding respectively, தண்-ணி ழல், தண்-பூ, நறும்-பூ, நறு-நிழல் to the terms employed in the உரிச்சீர். 5. ஓரசைச்சீர். A foot of a single syllable; as (a.) நாள். A foot of one simple syllable. (b.) மலர். A foot of a compound syllable.--Note. 1. One use of the last two is to end the வெண்பா verse. --Note. 2. Sometimes feet answering to காசு, instead of நாள், and பிறப்பு instead of மலர், are employed to end the வெண்பா verse, i. e., the addition of குற்றுகரம் or short உ to the foregoing; and rarely the full உ, or முற்றுகரம் is found. சீராயிருக்கிறேன். I am in a good state. சீரழிக்க, inf. To disturb, subvert, pervert. 2. To ruin, demolish. 3. To disparage one's character. (c.) சீராக, inf. (adverbially.) Orderly, decently, properly, soberly, consistently, circumspectly, moderately, temperately, discreetly. சீராகநடக்க, inf. To act consistently, &c. சீராடிக்கொண்டுபோதல், v. noun. [prov.] The going of a married girl to her father's house for redress of grievances from her husband's family, especially from her mother-in-law. (c.) சீரானநடை, s. A moderate pace. 2. Good moral character without excess. சீரிழுக்க, inf. To pervert good circumstances. (R.) சீரிட--சீர்செய்ய--சீர்கொடுக்க, inf. To give house-hold utensils, &c., to a daughter when married. 2. To put in order, சீர்செய்ய. சீருக்குவர--சீரிலேவர, inf. To be altered for the better, to come to a right or natural state. சீரைத்தேட, inf. To desire wealth. (Avv.). சீரைவிசாரிக்க, inf. To inquire after one's health. (R.) சீர்குலைய, inf. To be disordered, deranged. 2. To be lost--as character, ruined--as circumstances; to be disgraced. 3. (fig.) To be defloured, கற்பழிய. சீர்குலைச்சல், v. noun. Disorder, immodesty. (R.) சீர்கெட, inf. To degenerate, deteriorate, to become tarnished, corrupt, spoiled. சீர்கெட்டவன்--சீர்கேடன், s. A worthless person, a wretch. 2. A sloven. சீர்கெட்டவாழ்வு, s. Unhappy, domestic life. சீர்கேடு, s. Disorder, derangement, irregularity. 2. clumsiness, awkwardness. 3. Ugliness, deformity. சீர்கேடி, s. The goddess of misfortune or poverty, மூதேவி. (நிக.) (p.) சீர்சிறப்பு, s. Splendid prosperity. சீர்செய்ய, inf. To put in order, regulate, improve. 2. To adorn. 3. As சீரிட, which see. சீர்திருத்த, inf. To correct, rectify, amend, ameliorate, to perform. சீர்திருந்த--சீர்பொருந்த, inf. To be corrected, rectified, reformed, &c. சீர்தூக்க, inf. To weigh or examine with a balance. 2. To weigh in the mind, to consider, deliberate. 3. To compare--commonly with பார்த்தல், for the second and third persons. சீர்தூக்கிப்பார். Ponder this well. சீர்நிருவாகம், s. Condition, state, circumstances; [ex நிருவாகம், strength.] சீர்பண்ண, inf. To make ready, to put in order, correct, improve. சீர்பதி, s. The Supreme Being, கடவுள். See சீபதி. சீர்பாதம், s. The divine feet, the illustrious feet--spoken reverently for the person. See சீபாதம். சீர்பெற, inf. To attain prosperity. சீர்போட, inf. [prov.] To tie the balance string to a paper kite. (c.) சீர்ப்பட--சீர்பட, inf. To be restored, to amend, recover, come to a good state --as செம்மைப்பட. சீர்ப்படுத்த, inf. To reform, improve, bring to a good state--as செம்மைப்படுத்த. சீர்ப்படுத்திவைக்க, inf. To arrange things in order. சீர்ப்பாடு, s. Celebrity, distinction, eminence, splender, beauty. (p.) சீர்ப்பிழை, s. An impediment, an obstacle, an untoward circumstance. 2. Fault, defect, குற்றம். சீர்மடக்கு, v. noun. Repetition of a foot in a line. (p.) சீர்மரம், s. A weaver's beam, படமரம். சீர்வரிசை, s. Presents made to a married girl, or one arrived at puberty (c.) ஒருகண்டசீராய், adv. Equally, uniformly, uninterruptedly. ஒருசீரானவன், appel. n. One who maintains consistency of character, moderation of temper, &c. பலசீரும்நடக்கும். You will be hospitably entertained. Or the matter will take verious shapes. துர்ச்சீர், s. A bad state or condition. நற்சீர், s. A good state or condition. 7)

tṭi (p. 222) s. A stick, staff, rod, தடிக்கொம்பு. 2. A club, a cudgel, bludgeon, தண்டம். 3. A rod or pole for measuring land, அள வுகோல். (c.) 4. A rice field, வயல். 5. Compartment of a rice field, பாத்தி. 6. A pestle, உலக்கை. 7. A bow, வில். 8. (a contraction of தடித்து.) Lightning, மின்னல். 9. Flesh, ஊன். 1. A guana, உடும்பு.--Note. There are different kinds of தடி--as இருப்புத் தடி, கிலுக்குத்தடி, குணுக்குத்தடி, சோட்டாத்தடி, நுகத் தடி, பாணாத்தடி, வளைதடி, which see severally. விறகுதடியாய்ப்போனான். He is greatly emaciated; (lit.) as fire-wood. [prov.] குயவனுக்குப் பலநாள்வேலை தடியடிக்காரனுக்குச்சற் றுநேரவேலை. Many day's work for the potter, but a few moment's for the breaker. தடிக்கம்பு, s. [loc. தடிக்கொம்பு.] A walking cane, or staff. தடிக்கம்புச்சாப்பாடு, v. noun. Flogging. See under சாப்பாடு. தடித்தனம், s. Rashness, passionateness, rudeness. தடிப்பயல், s. A stubborn person, a block-head. 2. A corpulent person. தடியடிக்காரன், s. A violent person, who acts inconsiderately. தடிமாடன், s. An impudent fellow; [ex மாடன், a demon.] தடியனாபிள்ளை--தடியாண்பிள்ளை, s. An impudent, or corpulent person. தடிபோட, inf. To measure by the long stick in the கிட்டிப்புள்ளு game. தடிமூக்குள்ளான், A kind of snipe. See உள்ளான். தடியன்--தடிமிண்டன், s. A stout, corpulent person, பருத்தவன். 2. A strong athletic man, ஆண்மையுடையவன். 3. An obstinate person, முருடன். குண்டாந்தடி, s. A baton. 6)

A flogging. 2. The prostration of a pilgrim who measures his way with his body in going to a temple; prostration before a superior. இடுதண்டம், s. Prostration united to an act of reverence with the hands. 2. a penalty. See under இடு. கும்பிடுதண்டம், s. Fine for not rendering homage to the Punjayet--as arbitrators for deciding a cause. தீர்க்கதண்டமாய்விழ, inf. To prostrate one's self very low, and raise the hands. பிடிதண்டம், s. [prov.] Unjust seizure of an innocent person. தண்டதரன், s. Yama, the god of death; (lit.) the club bearer, நமன்; also தண் டன். 2. Bhima, வீமன். (p.) தண்டநாயகன், s. Chief of an army, சேனாபதி. 2. A king, as receiving fines, அரசன். 3. Nandy, the bullock-vehicle of Siva, நந்தி. (p.) தண்டபாணி, s. Yama, நமன். 2. Vishnu, விஷ்ணு. 3. The bridge, or bone of the nose, மூக்குத் தண்டு. 18. A frame for carrying images on men's shoulders, வாகனத்தண்டு. 19. Membrum virile, ஆண்குறி. (indecent.) தண்டிலேபோனால் ரண்டிலேஒன்று. Enlisting in the army is a doubtful step. தண்டாகாரம், s. [in Hindu astron.] The arranging of sea-shells (which are used for numbers) in a line beginning with units up to tens, hundreds, &c., or numbers placed one after another according to their local value-oppos. to சர்ப்பாகாரம். தண்டாயுதம், s. A club-weapon, தண்டு. தண்டாயுதன், s. The god Bhairava, as club-armed, வயிரவன்; also Ayanar, ஐயனார்; and Bhima, வீமன். தண்ாடயுதபாணி, s. An epithet of Subramanyan, as worshipped at Palaney. தண்டுகட்ட, inf. [prov.] To deprive one of the powers of virility by magic. தண்டுக்கீரை, s. A large sized herb. See கீரை. தண்டுக்கோல், s.
