கழி
kẕi (p. 98) s. A kind of thread, cotton, yarn, silk, &c., a hawk, a knot, a tie, நூற் சுருள். 2. Salt-pans, உப்பளம். 3. Shallow sea waters, salt rivers, salt marshes, உப் பாறு. 4. Lute-stick, stick for playing on the lute, a plectrum, யாழினையிசைக்குங்கருவி. 5. A rod, a cudgel, a staff, a branch, a twig, a switch, கொம்பு. 6. adj. and adv. Much, great, excessive, very extensive, மிகுதி. 7. [prov.] A roll of sealing wax, lunar caustic, &c., மெழுகுவர்த்தி. கழிக்கரை, s. Banks of salt rivers, marshes, &c., கழியினதுகரை. கழிக்கரைப்புலம்பல், s. [in erotics.] Persons expressing in a soliloquy a lady's lamentations for, and complaints of, her lover's absence, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். (p.) கழிக்காரை, s. A plant, ஓர்செடி. கழிநிலம், s. Brackish soil, marshy districts bordering on the sea, உவர்த்தரை. 2. Natural salt-pans, உப்பளம். கழிமுகம், s. The mouth of a river, ஆற்றுநீர்க்கழிவு. கழியர், s. Salt makers, உப்ப மைப்போர். 2. Inhabitants of maritime districts, நெய்தநிலமாக்கள். கழியூணன், s. A glutton, பேருண் டியான். 68)
கிணறு
kiṇṟu (p. 109) s. A well, கூவல். 2. A tank, கேணி. (p.) கிணறுகட்ட, inf. To wall a well. 2. To curb a well. கிணறுவெட்ட, inf. To dig or sink a well. கிணறுவெட்டப் பூதம்புறப்பட்டாற்போல். As a goblin appeared at the digging of the well; i.e. as an unexpected evil resulted where good was sought. கிணறெடுக்க, inf. To select astrologically a spot for a well, in reference to the situation of the house, and other surrounding objects; also to the nature of the soil, the depth at which water may be found, &c. கிணற்றங்கரை, s. Brink or border of a well; the bordering vicinity of a well. கிணற்றுக்கட்டு, s. The walling of a well; the curb of a well. கிணற்றுக்கல், s. Well-bricks or stones. கிணற்றுப்பொங்கல், v. noun. Boiling rice to Bhairava of the lower region, on the appearance of water in digging wells. கிணற்றுமிதி, s. The stand for the waterdrawer. கிணற்றோரம், s. Margin of a well. கற்கிணறு, s. A well walled with bricks or stones. 36)
கும்பிடு
kumpiṭu (p. 123) கிறேன், கும்பிட்டேன், வேன், கும்பிட, v. a. To join the two hands conically, கைகுவிக்க. 2. To worship, make obeisance with the hands joined and raised, கைகுவித்துவணங்க. 3. fig. To reverence, adore, worship, ஆராதிக்க. 4. To beg, solicit, crave, entreat, கெஞ்ச. கும்பிடப்போனதெய்வங்குறுக்கேவந்ததுபோல் நீவந் தாய். I met you, as if I had met the god whom I was going to worship. கும்பிடப்போனவன்தலையிலேகோயிலிடிந்துவிழுந்தா ற்போல. As if the temple had fallen on the head of him who repaired to it for worship; said of occurrences quite opposite to expectation. கும்பிடுகள்ளன், s. A hypocritical worshipper; a cunning person. கையெடுத்துக்கும்பிட, inf. To worship or make obeisance, by raising the joined hands. கோயில்கும்பிட, inf. To raise the hands in worship, at a temple, either in passing by, or as an attendant worshipper. கும்பிட்டகைக்குக்கொடுக்க, inf. To make a present to the bridegroom or bride, and sometimes to others, when they raise their hands in reverence to their superiors on the day of marriage&c., or to a girl on becoming marriage able. கும்பிடாதவனைக்கும்பிட, inf. To be obliged to serve or ask favors of a mean person. கும்பிடரி, s. [local.] A bundle of sheaves given to the chief of the village or to the temple. கும்பிடுகிளிஞ்சில், s. A species of cockle, a bivalve shell. கும்பிடுபூச்சி, s. [prov.] A class of insects bordering on the vegetable kingdom, whose feelers resemble hands raised in worship. கும்பிடு, v. noun. Worship, obeisance by raising the hands, வணங்குகை. கும்பிடுபோட, inf. To venerate; to worship by raising the joined hands. 39) *
சன்னி
caṉṉi (p. 173) s. Affection of the brain, apoplexy, paralysis, convulsions, delirium from fever, &c., சீதநோய்; [perhaps from the Sa. Sanipata, with its suffix apocopated.] --Note. In medical works, thirteen kinds of சன்னி are described. viz.: 1. கண்டகுப் சம், nervous affections of the throat, sore throat; [ex குப்சம், crookedness.] 2. சந்தி கம், (Union.) a disease arising from improper sexual intercourse. It is of two kinds. சுகசன்னி, of a man after bathing with the use of oil for anointing, and சூத கசன்னி, of a female during menstruation. 3. தாந்திரிகம், nervous debility. 4. பகீகனநேத்தி ரகம், affection of the nerves of the eye, blindness. 5. ருக்தாகம், pains of the body attended with thirst. 6. சிஃவீகம், nervous affection of the tongue, dumbness. 7. பிர லாபம், falling sickness, epilepsy. 8. அந்த கம், convulsion preceeding death. 9. ரக்த ஷடீவி, mucus mingled with blood from the nose. 1. சித்தவிப்பிரமம், fainting fits, syncope. 11. சீதகாத்திரகம் or சீதாங்கம், congestion of blood attended with spasms and profuse perspiration; spasmodic cholera. 12. கர்நீகம், nervous deafness. 13. அபின்னி யாசம், convulsion, distortions. சன்னிகுன்மம், s. Convulsive fits. (R.) சன்னிக்கட்டி, s. [prov.] A tumor near or in the ear, காதுவீக்கம். சன்னிக்குணம், s. The stage of a disease bordering upon that of coma, apoplexy, &c., 2. Symptoms, indications, &c., of coma, &c. (c.) சன்னிநரம்பு, s. Nerves of the great toe, which being injured are sometimes inflamed so as to produce lock-jaw. சன்னிநாயகம், s. A plant--black cumin, கருஞ்சீரகம். See சீரகம். 2. A medicinal plant, தும்பைப்பூண்டு. Phlomis Indic. L. சன்னிநாயன்--சன்னிகணாயன், s. (lit. god of fits.) As சன்னிநாயகம், 2. சன்னிபாதம், s. A morbid state of the three humors of the body resulting in paralysis, convulsions, &c.--as சன்னி. W. p. 891. SANNIPATA. சன்னிபாதசுரம், s. (also சன்னிவாதசுர ம்.) Convulsions accompanied with fever. சன்னிபிறக்குதல், v. noun. The inducing of coma. c. அலறுசன்னி, s. Convulsions accompanied with laughter, hysterics--as கம் பீரசன்னி. இரணசன்னி--புறவீச்சுச்சன்னி, s. External convulsions. இசிவுசன்னி, s. Lock-jaw. see underஇசி. v. உள்வீச்சுச்சன்னி, s. Internal convulsions; oppo. to புறவீச்சுச்சன்னி. மாந்தசன்னி, s. convulsions from indigestion, commonly in children. முகவாதசன்னி, s. Paralysis causing the distortion of the face. மூடுசன்னி, s. Apoplexy with an utter suspension of the active powers. 88) *
சிந்து
cintu (p. 184) s. The sea, the ocean, கடல். 2. Water, நீர். 3. A river in general, ஆறு. 4. The country bordering on the Indus, Sindh, சிந்துதேசம். 5. The language of the சிந்து country, one of the eighteen languages, பதினெண்பாடையிலொன்று. (See பாடை.) 6. The river Indus, சிந்துநதி. 7. An elephant--as சிந்தூரம், யானை. (p.) W. p. 925. SINDDHU. 8. A species of ode of five உறுப்பு or members, the first being a very short line and called பல்லவி, the second one longer, named அனுபல்லவி, and the remainder சரணங்கள், சிந்துகவி. 9. Any poetic line of three feet, முச்சீரடி. 1. Any short person, a dwarf, குள்ளன். (நிக.) 11. A precious stone, cat's eye, வைடூரியம். 12. A shrub, இருவாட்சி. (M. Dic.) சிந்தடி, s. As சிந்து, 9. சிந்துகவிப்புலவர், s. Petty poets, who make ballads, odes, &c.,--opp. to ஆசுகவிப் புலவர். சிந்துக்காணி, s. See under காணி. சிந்துசாரம், s. Sea-salt, கடலுப்பு. சிந்துதேசம், s. As சிந்து, 4. 2. India as bound by the river Indus, இந்துதேசம். சிந்துநதி, s. The Indus river. சிந்துநாட்டார், s. The people of Sindh. சிந்துரதம், s. Rock-salt, இந்துப்பு. சிந்துரத்தம், s. Salt, உப்பு. (M. Dic.) சிந்துலவணம், s. See under இலவணம். 2)
மிலேச்சம்
milēccam (p. 354) s. A country to the North of the Saraswati river in the neighborhood of Delhi, சரச்சுவதியாற்றின்வடதேசம். (சது.) மிலேச்சசாதிகள், s. Barbarous nations, foreigners. The tribes enumerated under this head by Menu, appear to be principally the inhabitants of the countries bordering on India, north and south; especially those adjacent to Bengal and Behar, and on the Southern part of the Coromandel coast, which are severally called Paundrakas, O'dras (Uriyas), and Draviras; also the Cambojas; Yavanas (Greeks or Bactrians); Sakas; Paravas; Pahlavas (ancient Persians); Chinese; Kiratas, generally mountaineers; Deradas (Darad&ae;) and K'hasas (Scuthi). W. p. 677.--Note. The term is now applied, more especially, to Europeans, and those from any remote country. மிலேச்சதேசம்--மிலேச்சமண்டலம், s. A foreign country, a country on the borders of India.--According to Wills. any country where the black antelope is not found. மிலேச்சத்தனம், s. Clownishness, barbarism. மிலேச்சன், s. [fem. மிலேச்சி, மிலேச் சஸ்திரீ.] A barbarian, one of a foreign tribe, of a foreign religion, customs, &c., கண்டகன்.-- According to Wils. one speaking any language but Sanskrit, and not subject to the usual Hindu institutions. 2. A weak man, simpleton, dunce, dolt, பேதையன். 3. A clown, clodhopper, மடையன்.
