The special servants in the above are the barber, washerman, black-smith, carpenter and grave-digger. குடிமதிப்பு, s. Assessment, valuation of property for taxation. குடிமார்க்கம்--குடிமுறை, s. Domestic life. 2. Proper conduct as a householder. குடிமிராசி--குடிமிராசு, s. The right or privilege of a hereditary occupant. குடிமிராசிகொடுக்க, inf. To endue with particular மிராசு privileges. குடிமை, s. Customs or manners of the higher classes, மேற்குலத்தார்நடக்கை. 2. Lineage, family, descent. குடிவரலாறு. 3. One born of a good family. குடியிற்பிறந்து குரங்காட்டமாடுதல். Being born of a good family, and falling into disgrace by bad conduct. குடியிற்பிறந்து செடியில்விழுந்தான். He was born of a good family, but married low; lit. fell into the bush. குடியெழும்ப, inf. To evacuate a house, village, &c., commonly from some unlucky and disastrous event, or anticipation. குடிவாங்க--குடிவாங்கிப்போக, inf. To remove from a place--as a family; to abandon a dwelling. 2. To migrate, to emigrate--as a family. குடியேற, inf. To settle in a new country, to colonize, to people. குடியேற்ற, inf. v. a. To settle people in a country, to stock with inhabitants, to people, to populate. குடிவாழ்க்கை, v. noun. Domestic economy, house-keeping. 2. Regulation of a household. குடிவிளங்கப்பண்ண, inf. To cast down and measure again and again; i. e. again, one marcal will not make two. கொட்டிகொட்டியளந்தாலுங்குறுணிபத்தாகாது. Though you measure over and over again, one marcal will not make two. கரப்பன்அள்ளிக்கொட்டிப்போட்டது. An eurption has broken out all over the body. பனிகொட்டுகிறது. The dew falls heavily. கொட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To pour out and give, to give to excess, to lavish, to squander. 2. (fig.) To make a display of words, to say more than is proper. சப்பாணிகொட்ட, inf. Charity, any charitable or meritorious act from which future good is expected --as alms-giving; building or endowing temples, contributing to the support of life, human or brute, or the maintenance of religion, or religious establishments. (See அறம்) (c.) 4. Peculiar or prescribed duty, occupation, &c., according to the different ranks and classes in society--as giving alms, &c., by the house-holder; administering justice, by kings; piety and performing rites by brahmans; courage, bravery in the solider; shaving in the barber, சாதிக்குரிய கருமம். 5. Nature, instinct, characteristic, property or action in animals--as humming in bees, barking in dogs, இயல்பு. 6. Inherent and peculiar qualities in plants, as fragrance in flowers; flavors in fruits, குணம். W. p. 439. DHARMMA.--Note. The negative of the above is அதர்மம், injustice, &c. தருமந்தலைகாக்கும். Uprightness will preserve the head; i. e. the life. தருமகர்த்தா, s. Wardens of a heathen temple. 2. Arbitrators, judges, jurymen. தருமகாரியம், s. A charitable act, subject, affair, &c. 2. (fig.) Marriage by charity. தருமகேத்திரம்--தருமக்ஷேத்திரம், s. A place near Delhi, where the Kurus and Pandavas fought. See குருசேத்திரம். தருமக்கட்டை, s. An orphan, supported by strangers, அநாதப்பிள்ளை. To teach religious duties. தருமசங்கடம், s. [in casuistry.] Difficulty of distinguishing between two duties, காரியமுட்டுப்பாடு. தருமசங்கிதை, s. Some specific book of the law, ஒர்தருமநூல். தருமசத்திரம், s. A rest-house for travellers. தருமசபை, s. Council of arbitrators. தருமசமுஸ்காரம், s. Burying, or burning the deceased poor, அறவைப்பிணஞ்சுடு தல். தருமசாட்சி, s. King's evidence, witnesses cited by the king. தருமசாதனப்பட்டையம்--தருமசாத னம், s. A deed of endowment inscribed on copper. See சாதனம். தருமசாது, s. A very mild, patient and benevolent person, தருமிஷ்டி. தருமசாத்திரம், s. Code of laws, especially the Smriti; rules of justice; ethics, moral philosophy; jurisprudence, ஸ்மிருதி. See கலைஞானம். தருமசாலி, s. A person famed for charity; [ex சாலி.] தருமசாலை, s. An almonry, or place, where any, or all, of the thirty-two charitable acts are performed. தருமசிந்தை--தருமசிந்தனம், s. A charitable or virtuous disposition, motive, intention, object, &c. தருமசிவாசாரி, s. A name of the gurus of the mercantile caste. தருமசீலன், s. (fem. தருமசீலி.) A charitable person piously disposed. தருமசூட்சுமம், s. A nice and difficult point in pleading. தருமஞ்செய்ய, inf. To do charitable and virtuous acts. தருமதானம், s. Beneficence, charitable gifts. தருமதேவதை, s. The goddess of virtue born from the right breast of Brahma, அம்பாலிகை. 2. The vehicle of Siva in the form of a bull, நந்தி. 3. (fig.) A good woman, உத்தமி.--Note. The goddess is described as placing four feet on the earth in the golden age; three in the next, or silver age; two in the brazen; and only one in the iron age. தருமநடை, s. Moral, religious, virtuous conduct; observing prescribed duties according to one's caste. தருமநாள், s. The third lunar asterism --as பரணி. தருமநியாயம்--தருமநீதி, s. Impartial discussion as given in the code of laws. (c.) தருமநூல், s. Of these, மனு is peculiar to the first age of the world, கிரேதாயுகம்; கௌதமம், to the second, திரேதாயுகம்; சங்கலிதம், to the third, துவாபாயுகம், as well as common to them all; and பராசரம் to the கலியுகம். தருமபத்தினி, s. A virtuous wife, கற் புள்ளமனைவி. தருமபுத்திரன், s. As தருமநந்தனன். See under தருமன். தருமபுருஷன், s. A charitable and pious man. தருமப்பள்ளி, s. A charity school. தருமப்பிணம், s. A corpse buried by public charity. தருமப்பிரபு, s. A man eminent for equity and benevolence. தருமப்பிள்ளை, s. One brought up by public charity, as a mountebank to exhibit before the tribe in which he was reared. (Used at the South. In Madras, நோக்கர்.) தருமப்பெட்டி, s. A charity box. தருமப்போர், s. Combat between two champions of equal powers, with the same kind of weapons, and taking no improper advantage. தருமவட்டி, s. Lawful interest. (c.) தருமவாடி, s. An enclosure from which alms are given. தருமவாட்டி--தருமவதி, s. A charitable female. தருமவாளி--தருமவான்--தருமவந்தன், s. A charitable and pious man. (c.) தருமாசனத்தார், s. Judges. தருமாசனம், s. mañcaṉam (p. 339) s. [also மச்சனம்.] Bathing another, or an idol, as a religious act. See திருமஞ்சனம். W. p. 632. MAJJANA. மஞ்சனக்குடம், s. A brazen pot for water to bathe an idol. மஞ்சனசாலை, s.
