aṟu (p. 33) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To cut off, part asunder, cut or break off as a string, வெட்ட. 2. To reap, நென்முதலியனவரிய. 3. To disjoin by cutting or untying--as the marriage string, to separate, sever, நீக்க. 4. To extirpate, exterminate, வேரோடழிக்க. 5. To saw asunder, வாளாலறுக்க. 6. To kill by severing the wind-pipe of beasts, &c., to slay, கழுத் தறுக்க. 7. To burrow, excavate, form subterraneous passages, வளைதோண்ட. 8. Agitated (with sorrow, anxiety, &c.,) as a fowl with its throat cut. அறுத்தறுத்தப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks distinctly. 2. He speaks decisively. 3. He uses cutting words. தடையறுத்துக்கொடுப்பேன். I will remove the obstacles, obviate objections, break the enchantments which prevent success --as in fishing, &c. வீரனுமவன்றலையறுத்தான். And Veeran cut off his head. இருளறுத்தெழுங்கதிர். The rising sun which exterminates the darkness. அறுமணை, s. An instrument for cutting vegetables, fish, &c. 2. A slut, slatterer. 3. A woman ugly or deformed in features. (c.) அறுவடை, v. noun. The act of reaping the corn. அறுவரி, s. A tax paid at fixed times. அறுவிதி, s. Decision. வழக்கறுக்க, inf. To decide a case. ஆடறுக்க, inf. To slay sheep. அறுப்பு, v. noun. Sundering, separating, cutting a part, reaping, &c., அரிகை. 2. A piece, section, அறுத்ததுண்டு. 3. An imprecation of widowhood--in allusion to the sundering of the marriage ornament at the death of the husband, தாலியறுக்கை. 4. The opening of a wound, an open cut, &c., அறுவாய். 5. The opening made in sawing a piece of timber, மரமுதலியவையினறுவாய். 6. Confutation, refutation of another's arguments, ஆட்சேபிக்கை. அறுப்புக்காலம், s. The time of harvest. அறுப்புண்க, inf. To be cut asunder, to be divided, be severed by cutting. 56)

aḷai (p. 33) s. A hole, a hollow in the ground, in a tree, &c., (as a rat's hole or snake's hole,) a hole or cavity at the side of a tank or well, the resort of alligators, வளை. 2. (p.) A cave, a cavern in a mountain or rock, மலைக்குகை. 3. The hole of an anthill, புற்று. 4. A place, இடம். 5. A form of the seventh case, ஏழனுருபு. 6. Curds, curdled milk, தயிர். 7. Whey, buttermilk, மோர். அளைமறிபாப்புப்பொருள்கோள், s. Construction in which the sense begins at the end and goes backward to the beginning--One of the eight பொருள்கோள். அளையெடுக்க--அளைவைக்க, inf. To burrow, வளைசெய்ய. 2. To grow hollow as an ulcer, புரைவைக்க. 38)

kiṇṭu (p. 109) கிறேன், கிண்டினேன், வேன்,கிண் ட, v. a. To dig, excavate, delve, hoe up, தோண்ட. 2. To make a pit, a hollow--as in the ground, a hole in a wall, &c., குழிதோ ண்ட. 3. To dig up; to dig out; to obtain by digging, கிளறியெடுக்க. 4. To poke, stir with a ladle; to scratch--as a fowl; pick or work up--as crows; burrow--as rats, &c.; to work up with a stick, an iron-bar, &c., கிளற. 5. (fig.) to probe, to scrutinize, to investigate, to inquire or pry into a matter; to search, to examine, ஆராய. 6. To gnaw--as worms on the body, as animalcula under the skin, &c., புழுமுதலியனகிண்ட. 7. To prompt, நினைப்பூட்ட. 8. To excite--as to a quarrel, &c., பகையெழுப்ப. கிண்டக்கிண்டக்கீரையும்மயிரும், The more you probe it, the more it is hair with the greens; i.e. the more insignificant. மண்கிண்டிவயிறுவளர்க்கிறவன். A husbandman, (diminutively) one who lives by digging. அம்பட்டன்குப்பையைக் கிண்டினால்மயிர்மயிராய்ப் புறப்படும். If you turn up the dung-hill of a barber, you will find only clippings of hair. கிண்டிக்கிண்டிக்கேட்க--விசேஷங்கிண் ட, inf. To inquire into a thing very minutely, to pump one, to ask inquisitively. கிண்டிக்கிளறிப்பார்க்க, inf. To dig out and search. 2. To make a thorough search, to make a thorough investigation. கிண்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To stir, to keep stirring--as the fire, the pap, &c. 2. (fig. To prompt. 3. To increase, to aggravate--as a quarrel. நீயவனைச்சற்றேகிண்டிக்கொடு. Prompt him a little. கிண்டிப்பார்க்க, inf. To dig and look --as for yams, &c., 2. fig.) To make injuiry by different means to find out the truth. அவனண்டைபோய்ச் செய்திஎன்னவென்றுகிண் டிப்பார். Go to him and search out the matter. கிண்டிவிட, inf. To dig up, to dig round the roots of plants, grain &c. 2. To excite, to stir up, to incite. 3. To bring a thing to one's notice, to suggest. கிண்டிவிட்டுக் கேளிக்கைப்பார்க்கிறது..... To stir up or excite others to quarrel or fight, and delight in it. கல்லுக்கிண்ட, inf. To dig up stones. களிக்கிண்ட, inf. To cook hasty-pudding, by stirring. கிழங்குகிண்ட, inf. To overturn, upset, capsize; to overthrow, to defeat. கீழறுக்க, inf. To burrow, to excavate, to make a subterranean passage, to undermine, பூமியிற் சுரங்கஞ்செய்ய. 2. (fig.) To undermine, to injure by any underhand, clandestine means, சதிசெய்ய. கீழறை, s. An under-ground room, a cellar, நிலவறை. 2. A cavern, a cell, a hole or passage under ground, வளை. கீழாக, inf. To become depressed, to sink--as a stalk, a heap of muck, &c.; to deteriorate, to waste--as the body by use or disease; or as property, &c., தாழ் வடைய. கீழாக--கீழாய s. Under, below, beneath. கீழாயிருக்க, inf. To be below, to be mean, to be inferior. கீழாலவத்தை, s. 'Descending states of the soul.' State and degree of consciousness, commencing with objective sensations and descending to subjective feeling and contemplation, the mind receding farther and farther from objective impressions and associations. Hindu physiologists fancy that the mind descends from its seat in the forehead to its other seats, the neck, breast, umbilicus and terminus rectum. (தத்துவக். சிவ. சி.) கீழிருக்க, inf. To lie under, to be under one's dominion or control. கீழாறு, s. A river under ground, பூமி யினுள்ளோடுமாறு. 2. A river in the Congu country, கொங்குதேசத்தாறு. கீழாறுகொண்டுபோயிற்று. The under ground river has carried it away--said of things lost without knowing how. கீழுக்குப்போக, inf. To be diminishes, to be reduced. அவன்புத்தியுங்கல்வியும்வரவரக்கீழுக்குப்போகி றது. His understanding and knowledge are more and more diminishing. கீழோங்கி, s. [prov.] An inferior class or fishermen--as distinguished from மே லோங்கி, a higher rank. கீழ்நோக்க, inf. To look downward, to tend downward, கீழ்ப்பார்க்க. 2. To be sensual, grovelling, to tend toward secularities, இழிவானதைவிரும்ப. 3. To be on the decline--as to wealth, &c.; to go to ruin, to come to naught, தாழ்வடைய. கீழ்நோக்கித்திட்ட--கீழ்நோக்கியேச inf. To use obscene language, to assail with very indecent speech. கீழ்நோக்கு--கீழ்நோக்கம் v. noun. Looking downward, downward tendency, கீழ்ப்பார்வை. 2. Low or grovelling pursuits, a base inclination; underhand, clandestine purpose. கீழ்மேலாக, adv. Upside down. கீழ்ப்பட, inf. To be subdued, to yield, to be submissive, to become inferior, கீழ்ப்படிய. 2. To be subject, to be subordinate, to submit to, அடங்க. 3. To be degraded, mean, base, இழிவுபட. கீழ்ப்படிய--கீழ்ப்பணிய inf. To submit, to yield, to obey. கீழ்ப்படியாத்தனம்--கீழ்ப்படியாமை, s. Disobedience, insubordination. கீழ்ப்படிவு, v. noun. Submission, obedience, subordination, subjection, கீழ்ப்ப ணிவு. 2. Docility, tractableness, அமைவு. கீழ்ப்படுத்த--கீழ்ப்படியப்பண்ண, inf. To subdue, to subject, to subordinate, to subjugate, to quell, அடக்க. 2. To lower, to bring down, to reduce, தாழ்வுபடு த்த. 3. To degrade, ஈனப்படுத்த. கீழ்நோக்கினநட்சத்திரம், s. [in astro.] A lunar mansion looking downward-opposed to மேனோக்கினநட்சத்திரம். They are twelve in number. (உள்ளமு.) கீழ்நோக்கினராசி, s. [in astrol.] A zodiacal sign which looks downward.-Note. These signs, as well as the கீழ்நோக் கினநட்சத்திரம், are favorable for planting esculent roots and digging wells. கீழ்மேற்றென்வடல், s. The east, west, north and south. 42)

camāti (p. 163) s. The last of the eight அ ங்கயோகம், or states and modes of silent, contemplative worship, அங்கயோகத்தொன்று. 2. One of the postures of the ascetic for silent meditation, being an upright, majestic position, as a fancied image of the deity, ஞானசமாதி. 3. The abstract contemplation of the ascetic in which the soul is supposed to be independent of the body and mind. (See யோகம்.) 4. Knowledge of the sublimest description--as of the deity, one's own spiritual nature, &c., acquired by supernatural illumination, without the aid of organs physical or mental, சமாதி தரிசனை. 5. A mode of interment, by placing the corpse in a sitting posture in imitation of the சமாதி worshipper, சமாதி யில்வைக்க,--Note. The வீரசைவர் sect are all burried in this manner, (it being deemed improper to burn them lest the linga previously worn should be burnt also,) and occasionally a monument of masonry is built around the corpse, as a linga, which thus becomes an object of worship. 6. A grave, a tomb, a sepulchre, பிணம் புதைக்குங்குழி. 7. [in rhet.] A species of personifications, a metaphor in which the quality or attribute properly belongs to the objects to which the metaphor refers, ஓரலங்காரம்--as பாயிருள்பருகிப்பகல்கான்றெழுதரு பருதி, the orient sun which swallows the darkness and pours forth the day; also, கன்னிமதில், virgin walls, i. e. imperishable, and குமரிஞாழல், the young rush, i. e. ever green. 8. Death, demise, commonly spoken of a devotee, மரணம். W. p. 896. SAMAD'HI. சமாதிக்குப்போக, inf. To betake one's self for a time to his cell, as an advenced devotee to secure uninterrupted, and protracted contemplation in silent worship. சமாதிக்குழி, s. The cell or grave of the devotee for interment, in an erect, sitting posture. 2. A grave. சமாதிபண்ண, inf. To sit in any of the postures of the Yogi. (p.) சமாதிபெற, inf. To receive of the Guru the degree of the Yogi, entitling the person to the privilege of sitting in the சமாதி postures. சமாதியடைய, inf. To sit in the ச மாதி posture in silent meditation. 2. To retire to the grave, to die. 3. To die in an erect posture--as a devotee. சமாதியில்வைக்க, inf. To bury a corpse in a sitting posture--as customary with some Hindus. (c.) சமாதியிருக்க, inf. To sit in a contemplative posture--as a silent devotee. 2. To betake one's self to his sepulchre --as an exalted devotee, on the approach of death, remaining without nourishment in a sitting posture until life is extinct. சமாதியுப்பு, s. A kind of medicinal salt formed from the corpse interred in a sitting posture, taken up after some years; also the salt cast into the grave at the interment to prevent putrefaction. 10)

nuẕai (p. 278) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், நுழைய, v. a. To creep in through a narrow passage; to crawl in, to slip in, to enter--as a rat, புக. 2. To be put in, to be inserted, அகப்பட. 3. To enter one's mind as an author's meaning, &c., புதிய. 4. To side with, profess friendship for with byends, வஞ்சகமாய்ச்சார. (c.) காதிலேநுழையவில்லையா. Don't you hear me? ஊசித்துளையில்்சரடுநுழையவில்லை. The thread will not go into the eye of the needle. அந்தச்சொல்லென்மனதிலேநுழைந்தது.....That word penetrated my mind. நுழைநரி, s. A fox which burrows in the ground. See நரி. நுழைந்துபார்க்க, inf. To peep in or into, to put the head in and look. 2. To penetrate. நுழைந்துபோக, inf. As நுழை, 1. 2.
