akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. A decayed cuttle-fish bone, Os sepi&ae;, கட னுரை. அக்கினிகலை, s. Breath coming from the nostrils, in சரசாத்திரம். அக்கினிகோத்திரம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். 2. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. The seat of fire in the system--the abdomen. அக்கினிமந்தம், s. Indigestion. அக்கினிமலை, s. A volcanic mountain. அக்கினிமிதிக்க, inf. To tread on fire, one of the thirty-two kinds of selftorture. அக்கினிமூலை, s. The south-east region. அக்கினியாதேயம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம், sacrifices. அக்கினியாஸ்திரம், s. A kind of arrow, ஓரத்திரம், (c.) அக்கினியோகம், s. An inauspicious conjunction of the days of the week with the tithi திதி, as follows: 1. When the 5th or 11th tithi, Lunar day (திதி) occurs on Monday. 2. When the 5th tithi occurs on Wednesday. 3. When the 6th or 9th occurs on Thursday. 4. When the 8th or 1th occurs on Friday. 5. The lunar days occurring in the same day of twenty-four hours. திதித்துவம், s. A calendar which marks all the fasts, religious observance. &c., ceremonies prescribed on certain days of the year. திதித்துவயம், s. The occurrence of two lithis on one solar day in each of which ceremonies for the dead may be performed. திதியர்த்தம், s. Half of the duration of an eclipse. திதிவிரதம், s. One of the மிறைக்கவி, a curious poem in which a word of three letters when taken regularity gives one meaning, and when the first, second or third letter is taken away will give in each case a different meaning. திரிபுசம், s. Touching six members of the body, while repeating the five lettered incantation appropriated to the five faces of Siva, as representing the five operative dcities, ஆறங்கத்தோடு செய்யுஞ்செபம். பிரமசரியம்--பிரமசாரித்துவம், s. The order, condition or religious practice of the Brahmachari or religious unmarried student, நான்கு நிலையினொன்று. பிரமசரியமனுட்டிக்க, inf. To commence the practice of a religious student, commonly about the sixteenth year. பிரமசாபாலம், s. One of the thirty-two Upanishads, உபநிடதமுப்பத்திரண்டினொன்று. பிரமசாரி, s. Success, in acquiring a knowledge of the deity. பிரமசூத்திரம், s. A thread or cord consisting of three threads worn by brahmans, புரிநூல். 2. The name of a treatise, ஓர்நூல். பிரமசைதன்னியம், s. The original or first cause, God, கடவுள். பிரமஞானம், s. Experimental knowledge of the deity. 2. Regarding every thing as god. பிரமஞானி, s. One who has made great attainments in the knowledge of God, so as to become one with Him, பரமஞானி. பிரமதண்டம், s. A stick to support the chin, used by brahmans, in meditation. பிரமதண்டு, s. A stick used by devotees or yogis, யோகதண்டம். 2. See பிரமம், giddiness. பிரமதத்துவம், s. True knowledge of the Supreme deity, மெய்ஞ்ஞானம். பிரமதாயம், s. What is allowed to brahmans, or held free by them. பிரமதானம்--பிரமஸ்தானம், s. The inmost recess in a temple where the chief idol is placed, as கர்ப்பக்கிரகம். பிரமதேவன், s. The god Brahma, the Creator or Evolver of worlds. பிரமத்துவம், s. The divine nature, கட வுட்டன்மை. பிரமநிருவாணம், s. Union with the deity, கடவுளுடனொன்றுகை. பிரமபதம்--பிரமபதவி, s. The world of Brahma, an inferior state of bliss. பிரமபுத்திரம், s. The river, Brahmaputra, ஓர்நதி. பிரமபுத்திரி, s. The Sarasvati river, சரஸ்வதியாறு. 2. The goddess Sarasvati, சரஸ்வதி. பிரமபுரம், s. Seehali, a town in Southern India on the northern bank of the Cavery, சீகாழி. பிரமபுராணம், s. Puranas which teach that Brahma is the chief deity. In the celebrated eighteen there are two of this class. the பிரமம், and the பதுமம். (சது.) பிரமப்பிரளயம், s. The deluge at the end of the life of Brahma, பிரமனாயுள்முடி வில்வரும்பிரளயம். பிரமமணம், s. One of the eight modes of marriage. See மணம். பிரமமுனி--பிரமரிஷி, s. A Rishi of the Brahman caste, as most of them are. பிரமமூலி, s. A medicinal plant. See பிரமி. பிரமயாகம், s. One of the five யாகம், எச்சமைந்தினொன்று. பிரமயோனி, s. The birth, origin, or extraction of a brahman, பிராமணப்பிறப்பு. பிரமரட்சு, s. A savage man of a monstrous size, பருத்தமுருடன். பிரமரந்திரம், s. The tender part of the crown of the head where the bone is not formed in infancy, and through which it is said the soul of a yogi departs when he chooses to die, உச்சித்துவாரம். பிரமராட்சதன், s. A goblin or savage animated by the soul of a brahman, who in a former birth died with unexpiated sin. பிரமராட்சதி-பிரமராட்சதை, s. The ghost of a brahmani who having died a violent death appears in the form of a demon, inhabiting trees and possessing all the knowledge previously obtained, பார்ப் பாரப்பெண்பேய். பிரமலிபி, s. The writing of Brahma in the forehead of all persons before birth; fate, destiny. See தலைஎழுத்து. பிரமலிபிதப்பாது. The writing of Brahma will not fail. பிரமலோகம், s. The world and heaven of Brahma, being the seventh and highest of the seven upper worlds, also called சத்தியலோகம். (சது.) பிரமவமிசம், s. Lineage in succession from Brahma. 2. The race of brahmans, பிராமணசாதி. பிரமவாதம், s. The religious tenets of the Vedas considered systematically, வேதமதம். பிரமவித்து, s. One of the four grades of those who pursue a true and perfect knowledge of the deity, நால்வகைமுத்தரி லொருவன். பிரமவிந்து--பிரமபிந்து. s. The seed, or progeny of a brahman, &c., பிராமணவிந்து. 2. An epithet used in praise, or compliment, சக்கரவர்த்தி. பிரமாத்திரம்--பிரமாஸ்திரம், s. A famous arrow of supernatural qualities, given by Brahma to some, who had practised extraordinary austerities. பிரமாந்தரம், s. Certain parts of the body regarded as stations of the soul, உயிர்நிலை. பிரமாயு, s. The age of Brahma, as பிர மகற்பம்; [ex ஆயு.] பிரமாயுதம், s. A number, one million, பத்திலட்சம். (சது.) பிரமாரண்ணியம், s. The name of a town called வேதாரண்ணியம். பிரமாலயம், s. The house of a brahman. பிரமானந்தம், s. Heavenly bliss, or felicity, as பரமானந்தம். பிரமோத்தரகாண்டம், s. The last section of chapter of the Brahma Purana, added by the Saivas concerning Gokarnam, பிரமபுராணத்துக்கடைக்காண்டம். பிரமோற்சவம், s. An annual grand festival at a pagoda. 3) *

pūcciyam (p. 329) s. Venerableness, that which is worthy of worship, மேன்மை. 2. Honor, reputation, கீர்த்தி. 3. Ostentation, display, ஆடம்பரம். W. p. 548. POOJYA. 4. Emptiness, or scantiness, as an auspicious term in denying a thing asked, இன் மை. 5. A concealment of one's poverty or defects, and assuming appearances, குற்றமறைக்கை. 6. [in astron.] A cipher in calculation, as standing in the place of a real number, but of no value. Thus sixty-three divided by seven, the quotient is nine, and பூச்சியம். 7. Blank in lotteries, திருவுளச்சீட்டின்தோற்பு. 8. [in calendar.] That which is unlucky or unpropitiousness, அதிஷ்டமின்மை. 9. Rareness, uncommonness, அருமை. சாப்பாட்டுக்குப்பூச்சியமாயிருக்கிறது. There is nothing to live upon. வேலைபூச்சியம். Want of work or employ. பூச்சியம்பண்ண, inf. To venerate, to esteem. 2. To conceal one's poverty, or defects. 3. To manage so as to get undeserved regard. 4. To make an old house or thing appear like new. பூச்சியவார்த்தை, s. An expression of respect, or a compliment, உபசாரச்சொல். பூச்சியன், s. One deserving respect, பூசிக்கப்படுவோன். 2. [prov.] A dark bull, grey and white, கறுப்பும்வெள்ளையுமான மாடு. 28)

mēkam (p. 364) s. A cloud, முகில். W. p. 672. MEGHA. சத்தமேகங்களுங்கூடிநெருப்புமழைபெய்தாற்போல. As if the seven clouds poured forth fire. மேகம்வருஷிக்கிறது. It rains. மேகம்வியாபரிக்கிறது. Being overcast, or cloudy. காலமேகம், s. A cloud in the rainy season. காளமேகம்s. A dark or heavy cloud, an emblem of fertility, இருண்டமேகம். மேகம், 7. The seven different clouds, viz: 1. சம்வர்த்தம், a cloud shedding down gems, மணி; ஆவர்த்தம், a cloud pouring out water, நீர்; 3. புட்கலாவர்த்தம், discharging gold, பொன்; 4. சங்காரித்தம், scattering flowers, பூ; 5. துரோணம், emitting dust, மண். 6. காளமுகி, dropping stones, கல்; 7. நீலவருணம், belching fire, தீ. மேகம், 9. The nine clouds, with their astrological indications: 1. ஆவர்த்தம், little rain. 2. சம்வர்த்தம். great wind. 3. புட்கலம், much rain. 4. துரோணம், scarcity, ruin. 5. காளம். much rain, grains all good. 6. நீலம், a scattering rain, grains dear. 7. வாருணம், much rain and wind. 8. வாயுவம், much rain, wind, heat and fear; all grains good. 9. தமம், rain, wind and thunder. மேககர்ச்சனை--மேககர்ச்சிதம், s. The rumbling of clouds, as கர்்ச்சிதம். மேகக்கூட்டம்--மேகசாலம்--மேகசஞ் சாரம், s. An assemblage of clouds. மேகஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of cloud. மேகத்தொனி--மேகமுழக்கம், s. The noise of clouds, or thunder. மேகநாதம், s. Thunder, முழக்கம். 2. Small greens, Amaranthus, சிறுகீரை. (Sa. Meghanada.) மேகநாதன், s. An epithet of Indrajit son of Ravana, and reputed conqueror of Indra, இந்திரசித்து. மேகபடலம், s. An accumulation of clouds. 2. see மேகம், a disease. மேகபந்தி, s. A range of clouds, முகி னிரை. மேகபுஷ்பம், water, நீர். [Sa. Meghapushpa.] மேகப்புள், s. A lark, வானம்பாடி. மேகமண்டலம், s. The region of clouds. மேகமூடுதல், v. noun. Over-spreading of the clouds. மேகரஞ்சி--மேகவிரஞ்சி, s. A kind of melody, ஓரிராகம். மேகராகக்குறிஞ்சி, s. A melody adapted to a hilly country. மேகவண்ணம்--மேகவர்ணம், s. The color of clouds. மே மேகவண்ணக்குறிஞ்சி, s. A tree, Lawsonia, ஓர்மரம். மேகவண்ணன், s. An epithet of Vishnu from his cloud-like color, விஷ்ணு. மேகவாகனன், appel. n. One whose vehicle is a cloud; the cloud-borne, an epithet of Indra, இந்திரன். மேகாதிபன், s. [in calendars.] The planet that governs the clouds for the year; [ex அதிபன்.] மேகாந்தகாரம், s.
