akkiṉi (p. 4) s. Fire, தீ. 2. The god of fire and regent of the south-east, அக்கி னிபகவான். (See திக்குபாலகர்.) 3. (M. Dic.) The plant செங்கொடிவேலி. There are reckoned different kinds of அக்கினி, (a.) ஆயுரு வேதாக்கினி, of three kinds, for preparing medicines, as கமலாக்கினி, காடாக்கினி, தீபாக் கினி, which see. (b) Three other kinds called வேதாக்கினி for sacrificial purposes, as, காருகபத்தியம், தக்கணாக்கினியம், ஆகவனீயம். See தீ. (c.) The fire which will consume the world, காலாக்கினி. Wils. p. 6. One of the princely races. அக்கினிக்கட்டு, s. Restraining the power of fire by magic. அக்கினிக்கண்ணன், s. A fiery man, one having a terrible countenance. அக்கினிசன்மன், s. One born of fire, Skanda. See அக்கினிபூ. அக்கினிசாந்தி, s. [in astrology.] Offerings to fire; this is done with ghee, plantains, cakes, &c., after repeating an incantation one hundred and eight times to avert evil from அக்கினிதேவன். These offerings are made particularly at the time of marriage and of doing penance. அக்கினிசாலம், s. Tricks or artifices made by the agency of fire. அக்கினிச்சிலம், s. A plant, Gloriosa superba, L., கார்த்திகைக்கிழங்கு. அக்கினிச்சேர்வை, s. [prov.] A blister-plaster. அக்கினிட்டோமம்--அக்கினிஷ் டோமம், s. One of the twenty-one யாகம். அக்கினித்தம்பம்--அக்கினிஸ்தம்பம், s. A pillar of fire. 2. Stopping the power of fire by magic. 3. One of the sixty-four கலைஞானம். அக்கினித்தம்பன், s. Siva as a column of fire. See தம்பம். அக்கினித்திரயம், s. The aggregate of the three fires maintained by the Brahmin householder, the Garhapatya, காருகபத்தியம், Dakshanagniyam, தட்சணாக் கினியம், and Ahavaneya, ஆகவனியம். See தீ. அக்கினித்திராவகம், s. Fire-water --such as nitric acid, &c. அக்கினிநாள்--அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம், s. [astrol.] An inauspicious nakshatra or day. There are three in a year, viz., when the sun is in the last quarter of the second nakshatra, பரணி, when in the 3d nakshatra, கார்த்திகை, and when in the 1st quarter of the 4th nakshatra, உரோகணி. அக்கினிபஞ்சகம், s. Danger of fire as an astrological result of the aggregate of five items. அக்கினிபயம், s. [in calendars.] Danger or fear of fire. அக்கினிப்பிரவேசம், s. Entering into or passing through fire, as a religious act. அக்கினிப்பிழம்பு, s. A body or flame of fire. அக்கினிப்பிளப்பு, s. A volcano, volcanic eruption. அக்கினிமண்டலம், s. The seat of fire in the system--the abdomen. அக்கினிமந்தம், s. Indigestion. அக்கினிமலை, s. A volcanic mountain. அக்கினிமிதிக்க, inf. The சிறுகாஞ்சொறி plant, Hemp-leaved tragia. குறுமீன், s. The name of a fish. குறிது--குறியது, s. A short thing, a low or dwarfish creature, little used. குறியர், (plu. of குறியன்.) s. Dwarfs --opposed to நெடியர். குறுமுனி, s. A name of Agastya; lit. the dwarfish sage. குற்றுடைவாள், s. A cimeter, a short dagger for stabbing an enemy, சிறுவாள். குறுவாழ்க்கை, s. Poverty, தரித்திரம். 2. Short-lived pleasure. (p.) குறுவிசனம்--குறுவிசாரம், s. A gloomy state of mind, melancholy; calamity. குறுவிலை, s. Scarcity, சிறுவிலை. குறுவிழிவிழிக்க, inf. koṭai (p. 146) v. noun. Giving or a gift, present, donation, ஈகை. 2. Liberal giving; [ex கொடு, v.] For three kinds of கொடை, see தானம். கொடுக்கிறகொடையோ. Is he one that we could have spared? Spoken of a death as an irretrievable loss. கொடைகொடுத்தல், v. noun. Giving large gifts or donations. 2. Affronting, using abusive language. கொடைக்கூலி, s. [prop. குடிக்கூலி.] House rent. (c.) கொடைத்தம்பம், s. A column or pillar set up in remembrance of extraordinary munificence. கொடைமடம், s. [in cant, குழூஉக்குறி.] A tiger, புலி; குட்டிநரி, a young jackal; குள்ளநரி; a short jackal; பெருநரி, a tiger; குழிநரி, நுழைநரி, வளைநரி, a fox. நரிவாலைக்கொண்டோகிணறாழம்பார்க்கிறது. Can a well be fathomed with the tail of a jackal? இவனுக்குஅவன்நரிகாட்டுகிறான். He acts the fox toward him. எங்கும்நரிஓடுகிறது. It is over-run with jackals, i. e. desolate. நரிநிறமாயிருக்கிறான்.
