Inference, illation-one of the modes in logic of arriving at a conclusion, as from smoke to infer the presence of fire, காரியத்தாற்காரணமறிகை. Wils. p. 34. ANUMANA. Some reckon the following four kinds; viz.: 1. தன்பொருட் டனுமானம். 2. பிறர்பொருட்டனுமானம். 3. அன் னுவயவனுமானம். 4. வெதிரேகவனுமானம். In அளவை the four are; 1. ஏதுவனுமானம், inference of an existing cause from sight of the effect, as of fire from the appearance of smoke. 2. பொதுவனுமானம், inference of the existence of a thing or reality of a thing by the presence of another, which is not wholly conclusive but probable and consistent. 3. எச்சவனு மானம், inference of a past cause from a present effect--as fishes in the rivers show that torrents have fallen on the mountains. 4. முதலனுமானம், inference of a future effect from a present cause-as that rainy clouds will bring rain. Another. 1. பூர்வக்காட்சி, inference of a thing from previous knowledge of its properties--as when we see a flower, we identify it from its smell. 2. அனுமானவ னுமானம், inference from an inference--as when we infer that a man is learned from his mode of treating a subject. 3. ஆகமவனுமானம், inference from the rules of Agamas--as the punishment is owing to former deeds. 2. To mix and drink; i. e. stir up the sediment, wash off what adheres to the cup, &c.--as medicines. கலக்கிக்குடிக்கிறபதத்திளநீர். kuḷir (p. 131) -- குளிரு, கிறது, ந்தது, குளிரும், குளிர, v. n. To be cold, chilly, frigid; to be cold to the touch; to be moist, damp, குளிர்கொள்ள. 2. To be cool, to be refreshed, குளிர்ச்சியுற. 3. To be refreshing, gratifying, pleasant, cheering to the touch, sight or hearing; to be engaging, attactive, benignant--as the countenance, இதமாக. 4. To be appeased, consoled, comforted, சாந்தமுற. 5. To die--spoken of death in time of epidemies, when fear of the avenging goddess prevents the use of the proper word, வசூரிமுதலியவியாதியால்மரிக்க. அப்பாவென்றால்உச்சிகுளிருமா. Will merely saying அப்பா afford relief? i. e. not mere words, but actions are necessary. அவன்ஒரு குளிர்ந்தகொள்ளி. To give health, as God in his providence by medicine, &c. சுகசரீரம், s. A healthy constitution in which the three humours are in equilibrium. சுகசரீரி--சுகசீவி, s. A healthy person. சுகசன்னி, s. A fit of apoplexy or tetanus, from unseasonable intercourse. See சன்னி. சுகசெல்வம், s. Health and prosperity, luxury. சுகசெல்வி, s. [mas. சுகசெல்வன்.] A female enjoying the pleasures and luxuries of life. சுகசெய்தி, s. Welfare, state of health, &c., as inquired after. சுகஞ்சுகம், [an auspicious phrase.] Health! health! spoken by a woman in pouring the last water to wash or bathe her child, and sometimes by adults after bathing, &c, மங்கலமொழி. சுகதுக்கம், s. Comforts and troubles, joys and sorrows, as attendant on the present life, or as awarded by the Deity for the actions of former births. சுகதுக்கஞ்சுழல்சக்கரம். Joys and sorrows are a turning wheel. சுகதுக்கி, s. One subject to joy and sorrow, a soul subject to births. (p.) சுகத்தாழ்வு, s. v. noun. Illness, want of sound health. சுகத்துக்குப்போக, inf. To remove one's self to a suitable locality, for enjoying health, to go to a sanitarium. (c.) சுகமாய்ப்போக, inf. To enter any place without molestation, obstruction, &c. 2. To be recovered from any disease. சுகபேதி--சுகவிரேசனம், s. A mild purgative, aperient, laxative, deobstruent. (c.) சுகபோகம், s. Sensual or luxurious enjoyments; sensual delight. சுகபோகி, s. A sensualist, an epicure. சுகபோசனம், s. Wholesome food. சுகப்பட, inf. To recover from disease, to be convalescent. 2. To be convenient, to suit, to be comfortable. சுகப்பேறு, s. [prov.] Safe child-birth after the full period of gestation. சுகவாசி, s. One living comfortably without toil. 2. Fixed or permanent inhabitant. சுகவாசிக்குடிகள், s. See under குடிகள். சுகவார்த்தை, s. A good account of one's health. சுகவாசித்தீர்வை, s. Tribute or tax paid to land-lords. சுகவாசிவாரம், s. The share of produce accruing to the cultivator of the soil. சுகவாழ்க்கை--சுகவாழ்வு, s. Health and prosperity. சுகவிருத்தி, s. Welfare. 2. Intelligence of one's welfare. சுகவீனம், s. Illness, ill-health. 2. Trouble. சுகாதனம்--சுகாசனம், s. An honorable, or a comfortable seat, நல்லாசனம். 2. The fixing of an idol in its place with due ceremony, விக்கிரகஸ்தாபகம். 3. The last division of the third அங்கயோகம், or posture of the silent devotee, for which there is no prescribed form, the person being left to his own choice, அங்கயோகத் தொன்று. 4. Of the soul; 1. களாபடனம், education, communication of knowledge, கல் விபயிற்றுகை; 2. வியாதாகாரம், comfort to the afflicted, consolation of mind, துயர்தீர்க்கை; 3. நிர்க்கத்தண்டனம், relieving from punishment, தண்டம்நீக்குகை; 4. சந்தேகவாரணம், removing doubts, contingency, &c., ஐயந் தேற்றுகை; 5. அன்னியகுணசகனம், hearing of the superiority of others without envy, and enduring their infirmities with patience, பிறந்குணத்தழுக்காறின்றிப்பொறுத்தல்; 6. பரதிருதுனயோகம், forgetting the evils inflicted by others and seeking to do them good, பிறராற்செய்யப்படுந்தீமையைமறந்தூன்றிநி னைக்கை; 7. பார்த்ததேவப்பிராத்திதம், praying for the prosperity and good of others, பிறர்நிமித்தந்தேவனைவழிபடுதல். Those regarding the body or சத்தாங் கோபகராம் are: 1. அன்னம், food, giving boiled rice, உணவு; 2. பானம், drink, குடிக்க நீர்; 3. அம்பரம், raiment, வஸ்திரம்; 4. மந்திரம், a dwelling, இடம்; 5. தாசபாலனம். preservation from slavery, அடிமைகாத்தல்; 6. காராமயத்திரிதயமோசனம், removing the three afflictions of captivity, சிறைநோய் மூன்றுந்தீர்த்தல். viz.: restraint from the calls of nature, மலசலவாதை; corporal punishments, சரீரதண்டனை; chains, fetters, விலங்கு போடல். 7. சவச்சேமம், burial, பிரேதமடக்கல். There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *

To clear away, dispel, remove, expel, நீக்க. 5. To clear off a stain from one's character, வடுஅகற்ற. 6. To destroy, do away, annihilate, as a world, நிர்மூலமாக்க. 7. To relinquish, desert, கைவிட. (c.) துடைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்விட்டான். He has carried off every thing. அழுகிறவன்முகத்தைத்துடைக்கவேணும். (One) should comfort the mourner. எங்களைத்துடைத்துத்தள்ளிப்போட்டான்.
