iṭm (p. 45) . A common form of the seventh or locative case--expressing in, on, with, within, ஏழனுருபு. It also implies to, after verbs of motion. As a case, it is itself either declined or not.--Note. According to நன்னூல், the seventh case expresses the locality of things; it also indicates place, time, component parts, qualities and actions, the relation to the persons or things indicated, whether as naturally belonging to them, or as distinct. மணியிடத்தொளி. See பிங்கலை. இடைக்கட்டு, s. A girdle, sash. 2. The allowance made for the weight of a vessel before weighing any thing in it. இடைக்காடன், s. A Rishi or சித்தன்--one of the eighteen. இடைக்கிடை. Here and there, interspersed, நடுநடுவே. 2. Of like weight, even weight, equilibrium, நிறைக்குநிறை இடைக்குலநாதன், s. Vishnu as brought up by shepherds. இடைக்குறை, s. [in grammar.] A word shortened in the middle, syncope, elision; as ஓதி for ஓந்தி, camelion. (See விகாரம்.) 2. An island, blank space in a river, &c., ஆற்றிடைக்குறை. இடைக்கொள்ளை, s. Pillaging, plunder, free booty, plundering without regard to either party, நடுக்கொள்ளை. 2. (in Agastiar.) The ravages of an epidemic discase, கொள்ளைநோயான்வருமழிவு. இடைசுருங்குபறை, s. A small drum tapering in the middle, உடுக்கை. இடைசூரி, s. [prov.] Gold or silverbeads interspersed here and there between sacred or other beads, உருத்திராக்க முதலியவற்றிற்கிடையிற்கோத்திடுவது. இடைச்சனி--இடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The eleventh lunar asterism, in which Saturn is considered very malignant. See கடையெழுஞ்சனி and முதலெழுஞ் சனி. இடைச்சன், s. The second child, இரண்டாம்பேறு. (c.) இடைச்சாதி, s. The second or middle tribe of வைசியர்--the third caste. இடைச்சேரி, s. A shepherd's village. இடைத்தட்டு, s. Getting profit indirectly by interposing between parties, &c. or by purchasing goods of one and selling them again from a distance. இடைநடு, s. The middle emphatically (a pleonasm in rhetoric.) இடைநரை, s. Hair or beard growing grey here and there. இடைநிலை, s. In verbs generally, the characteristics of tense, வினையிடைநிலை. 2. A neutral state, neutral or middle state, stagnation in business transactions, இருபுறத்திலுஞ்சாராமனிற்கை. 3. In some compound nouns, one of the component parts, பெயரிடைநிலை. இடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. One of the beauties of poetry, விளக்கணிமூன்றிலொன்று. See தீபகம். இடைநிலைமயக்கு, s. [in orthography.] The proper combination of letters in the middle of a word, மொழியி லிரண்டெழுத்து மயங்கிநிற்கை--if the same consonant be repeated in the middle of a word, it is called, உடனிலைமெய்மயக்கு; if otherwise, it is called, வேற்றுநிலைமெய்ம யக்கு. இடைநீரினிற்க, inf. [prov.] To swim with the body erect and the water only up to the waist. இடைப்பட, inf. To interpose, happen in the interim, come in, between, among, &c., to happen, இடையிலுண்டாக. இடைப்படுதானம், s. Giving of a secondary order, bestowing through pity on the poor, the blind, மத்திமதானம். இடைப்பழம், s. Ripe fruits interspersed among the unripe. இடைப்பழம்பழுத்தல், v. noun. Ripening as fruits here and there. இடைப்பிறவரல், v. noun. Words intervening between any one word and another with which it makes sense--as between the noun and its attribute, &c., எழுவாய்முதலிய தொடரினுள் இடையிலேற்ற பிற சொல்வரல். இடைப்புழுதி, s. Land in a state for sowing, neither very moist nor very dry, காய்ந்துங்காயாதிருக்கிறபுழுதி. இடைப்புள்ளி, s. Marks scattered here and there--as in tobacco leaves, &c., fruits, &c. இடைப்பூட்டு, s. A truss, girdle, அரைப்பூட்டு. இடைப்போகம், s. An interior crop, out of season, இடையிற்புன்பயிர்விளைவு. இடைமடக்கு, s. Silencing one by vociferation, இடையிற்றடுக்கை. 2. Haughty speaking, இடக்குமடக்கானபேச்சு. 3. [in prosody.] The repetition of a word in the middle of a line with a varied meaning. See மடக்கு. இடைமுள், s. Small, new eruptions about a healing ulcer or bile, மறு முள்பாய்கை. 2. A disease, a kind of eruption, ஓர்கரப்பன். இடைமேடு, s. Rice-land of moderate height, நடுத்தரமானமேடு. இடையற, inf. To cease or terminate suddenly. இடையறாவன்பு, s. Never-ceasing love. இடையன், s. (fem. இடைச்சி.) A shepherd--as occupying a middle position. இடைப்புத்திபிடரியிலே. The shepherds have their wit in their nape; i. e. they have none. இடையன்கால்வெள்ளி, s. [prov.] The star Aldabaran in the constellation Aries, ஓர்விண்மீன். இடையாந்தரம், s. An intermediate space or time. அந்தவேலை யிடையாந்தரத்திலே கெட்டுப்போ யிற்று. The business was interrupted, spoiled in the interim. இடையாயர், s. Persons of a middling class in piety, excellence, &c. See தலை and கடை. இடையிட, inf. To intervene, be interspersed, to have intermediate spaces either of time or place, to intermit, happen intermediately, நடுவிற்றோன்ற. இடையிட்டுவந்தசெல்வம், s. Acquired wealth and prosperity, obtained during life, not derived from ancestors. இடையிட்டெதுகை, s. The எது கை or rhyming of the third letter in every other line. இடையிடை. From time to time, at intervals, intervening space. இடையிலேகொண்டுபோக, inf. To take by theft or force, to plunder fruits, furniture, &c. 2. To take off property at one's death--as persons who are not heirs. 3. To seize and carry off property from one who has stolen it--as a constable from a thief. (c.) இடையிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க, inf. To get a living at the expense of others, not reducing one's own stock. (c.) இடையினவெதுகை, s. urupu (p. 65) s. Form, shape, வடிவம். 2. [in grammar.] A class of particles comprising four kinds, viz.: 1. வேற்றுமையு ருபு, the particles which form the declensions. 2. வினையுருபு, those that form the inflections of verbs including three species, (a) விகுதி, verbal terminations. (b.) இடை நிலை, characteristics of tense and several other intervening particles in the formation of verbs, derivative nouns, &c. 3. சாரியை, auxiliary, component particles employed in the formation of the two classes of verbs. 4. ஒப்புருபு, particles of terms of comparison. 5. The relative participles, ஆகிய, ஆன, &c., affixed to nouns to make adjectives of them. உருபுத்தொகை, s. The suppression of the characteristics of the cases --as மரநுனி. உருபுப்புணர்ச்சி, s. Sand'hi--the union of the particles of inflections with nouns and pronouns, வேற்றுமையுருபுமுதலிய புணர்கை. உருபுமயக்கம், s. The use of one case for another--as the dative for the local ablative, &c., வேற்றுமையுருபுமாறுகை. அமுதம்பூவையைக்கிள்ளையையருத்தி. Feeding the minor and parrot with milk--here the objectives are used for the dative. (நைட.) உருபுமாலை, s. Declension of nouns. உருபுவிரி, s. The expression of the case--as மாத்தினுனி. உவமையுருபு, s. A particle of comparison--as மதிபோலுமுகம், face like the moon. சொல்லுருபு, s. The use of a word for a particle representing the case--as, தடிகொண்டடித்தான், He beat with a stick-here கொண்டு is used for ஆல்; அவனைக்காட் டிலும்வலியன். uṟuppu (p. 68) s. A limb, or member of the body, parts, features, அவயவம். 2. Body, உடல். 3. Part (of a whole) component part, member, subdivision, department, section, பங்கு. 4. Just proportion, symmetry, அங்கலட்சணம். 5. Abundance, மிகுதி. 6. Bough, மரக்கொம்பு. 7. Closeness, narrowness, நெருக்கம். 8. A copy of single letters set for a child to imitate, மேல்வரிச்ச ட்டம். 9. Title deed, registry, &c. of land, காணியாட்சிப்பத்திரம். அந்தக்காணிக்கோருறுப்புமில்லை. There is no security, title, &c. for that land. உறுப்படக்கி, s. A tortoise, a turtle --from the contraction of its limbs, ஆமை; [ex உறுப்பு, et அடக்கி, from அடங்கு contraction.] உறுப்பணங்கெட்டவன். [prop. உ றுப்பினங்கெட்டவன்.] An ill-shaped, maimed, ugly person. 2. (Rott.) உறுப்பினங் கெட்டவன், A foolish, a witless fellow. உறுப்பற்றவன்--உறுப்புக்குறைந்த வன். An ill-formed, or deformed person, அவயவவீனன். 2. An ill-bred person. ஒழுக்கமில்லான். உறுப்பில்பிண்டம், s. The embryo. See எச்சம. உறுப்புக்குறைவிசேடம், s. [in rhetoric.] A species of the figure called விசேடம். உறுப்புத்தோல், s. A species of deer-skin which, according to the shasters, the Brahman should fasten to his sacred cord, நூலிற்கட்டியமான்றோல். உறுப்புநலனழிதல், v. noun. Decaying or withering--as the beauty of a female, on account of the absence of her lover, அங்கத்தழகுகெடுதல். உறுப்புமயக்கம், s. A prodigy, a monster, one whose limbs are redundant, defective, &c. See எச்சம். உறுப்புள்ளவன், s. A vigorous, well-formed man, அங்கலட்சணமுடையவன். 2. A man of enterprising character, qualified for business, திறமையுடையான். 3. A man of good conduct, அறத்துறுப்புடை யான். 4. A man of good manners, ஒழுக்கமுள்ளவன். காணிக்குறுப்புப்பண்ண, inf. To get a title deed passed for land. அகத்துறுப்பு, s. The constituent parts of virtue; they are eight in number. 1. ஐயப்படாமை, Freedom from doubt and uncertainty. 2. விருப்பின்மை, Liberation from the desires of the senses. 3. வெ றுப்பின்மை, Freedom from antipathy, prejudice, &c. 4. Exemption from illusion, confusion of mind, error, ignorance, &c. 5. பழியைநீக்கல், Freedom from evils. 6. அழி ந்தோரைநிறுத்தல், Restoring the ruined or apostate. 7. அறம்விளக்கல், Expounding or elucidating the nature of virtue. 8. பேரன்புடைமை, Great kindness, or benevolence to all sentient creatures. நூலுறுப்பு, s. One of the members or component parts of a treatise. மதிலுறுப்பு, s. The component parts of a fortification. திருவுறுப்பு, s. A jewel worn by bridegrooms upon their foreheads--a sign of the goddess இலக்குமி. செய்யுளுறுப்பு, s. The constituent parts or elements of poetry, as given in காரிகை, they are six, viz.: 1. எழுத்து, Letters forming thirteen classes. 2. அசை, Metrical syllables of two kinds. 3. சீர், Metrical feet of thirty kinds. (See. சீர்.) 4. தளை, Combination of feet one with another, of seven kinds. 5. அடி, Metrical lines determined by the number of feet of which they are composed, five kinds are given. 6. தொடை, Rhyme, forty-three species are enumerated. சீட்டினுறுப்பு, s. The style or different parts of a writ, or deed, &c. 5)

eẕukūṟṟirukkai (p. 75) s. A poem whose component words are represented by numerals in seven contiguous rows of long squares, each succeeding row increasing by one subordinate square on both sides, the topmost consisting of three squares. the next five, the next seven, &c. The numbers in each row begin and end increasing by one from the left as far as the middle square, and decreasing in the same ratio towards the right--thus the numbers in the first row, are 1, 2, 1; in the second, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1; in the third, 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1, &c., and in the last two rows the numbers are the same. The symbolical poem is construed thus in the first row. 1, one god; 2, two feet; 1, one heart; i. e. Modification and diversities in the forms of bodies; varied evolutions of primitive matter, விகாரத்தன்மை. 4. Section, division, department, பகுதி. 5. The properties, qualities or nature of a thing; characteristic symptoms of a disease, கூறுபாடு. 6. Effect, result, product, காரணகாரியங்களின் வகை; [ex குறு, to shorten by division, &c.] 7. v. noun. Proclamation, publication, அறிவிக்கை; [ex கூறு to proclaim.] 8. s. Oily grain, எள்ளு. (M. Dic. முழுக்கூறும்வேண்டும். I want it all. கூறிட--கூறுசெய்ய, inf. To cut in two, bisect, subdivide. 2. To set in portions or small quantities. கூறுகூறாக்க, inf. To cut or separate into portions; to apportion. கூறுவைக்க, inf. To set in portions or separate quantities, to distribute and set in small heaps--as a retailer for sale. கூறுகொள்ள, inf. To stuff, cram, press any thing down with a stick, the feet or the hands. குழந்தை மண்ணைக் கூறுகொள்ளுகிறது. The child eats sand. சோற்றைகூறுகொள்ளுகிறான். [prov.] He thrusts rice into his mouth. கூறுபட, inf. To be divided or resolved into its primitive elements. கூறுபடுத்த, inf. To analyze, to distribute. 2. To resolve or reduce bodies into their original parts or primitive elements; to produce the varied transformations of nature. கூறோலை--கூற்றோலை, s. An ola-writing for the division of property among heirs. தைபிற்கூறு, s. The latter part of January. நடுக்கூற்றிலே, In the middle; in the middle part. மாசிமுற்கூறு, s. A member, a component part,--as distinguished from முதல் உறுப்பு. 7. Bambu, மூங்கில். (சது.) 8. One of the six sources, பொதுவிடம், from which nouns are formed, பொருளாதியாறனுளொன்று.--Note. This word is in the first two meanings commonly applied to animals only. கெடாதஇடையன் சினையாட்டைக்காட்டினசம்பந் தம். As a shepherd, giving nothing, shows a ewe big with young; i. e. the illiberal make many promises. சினைகொள்ள, inf. To form--as flower buds. 2. To become impregnated--as animals. சினைப்பசு--சினைமாடு, s. A cow with young. சினைப்பட, inf. To be with young-spoken of animals. சினைப்பருவம், s. Ears forming inside the stalk, of growing grain. சினைப்பெயர், s. Names or nouns denoting parts or members of the body. 2. Names derived from such nouns. சினைமீன், s. A fish with spawn. சினையாக்க, inf. To impregnate. 2. (fig.) To cause excessive trouble, to annoy, தொந்தரவுகொடுக்க. சினைவினை, s. Verbs expressing the actions, motion, condition, &c., of the members or component parts of a body --as கால்முறிந்தது, the leg is broken, here, முறிதல் is a சினைவினை--opposed to முதல் வினை. 89)
