One of the five kinds of இறைபயப்பது--an indirect answer. இனமோனை, s. A rhyme where the letters which begin a line or foot are not the same as those of the next line or foot, but of the same class, இன வெழுத்தால்வருமோனை. If the letters are of the வல்லினம் class, the rhyme is called வல்லினமோனை; if of the மெல்லினம் class, the rhyme is மெல்லினமோனை; if of the இடையினம் class, the rhyme is இடையின மோனை. இனம்பிரிக்க, inf. To divide into classes. இனம்பிரிய, inf. To be separated from the company. இனவழி, s. Descent from the same line or ancestry. 2. Being related to the same breed of cattle. இனவெதுகை, s. A species of rhyme in which the second letters of each stanza are of the same class; it is of three kinds, வல்லினவெதுகை, மெல்லின வெதுகை and இடையினவெதுகை. இனவெழுத்து, s. Relative letters --as the hard letters are to their respective nasals, or vice versa; also letters formed from the same sources which in the consonants run in couplets through the alphabet, and the long vowels to the short, and vice versa, இன மாயுள்ளவெழுத்துக்கள். பாவினம், s. The three classes of poems which partake of the nature of each of the four out of five classes of poems called, தாழிசை, துறைவிருத்தம். 1. Those that have some of the properties of வெண்பா are வெண்டாழிசை or வெள்ளொத் தாழிசை, வெண்டுறை and வெளிவிருத்தம். 2. Those of ஆசிரியம் are ஆசிரியத்தாழிசை, ஆசிரி யத்துறை and ஆசிரியவிருத்தம். 3. Those of கலிப்பா are கலித்தாழிசை, கலித்துறை and கலி விருத்தம். 4. Those of வஞ்சிப்பா are வஞ் சித்தாழிசை, வஞ்சித்துறை and வஞ்சிவிருத்தம். மூவினம், s. uṭntai (p. 59) s. Fellowship, companionship, confederacy, partnership, proprietorship, heirship, கூட்டுறவு. 2. Connexion, concert, union, combination, participation, சேர்க்கை. (c.) ஒல்லையிற்றருமங்களுக்குடந்தையாய். Uniting at once in fellowship with every virtue. (பாரதம்.) அவனிதற்குடந்தையாளி. He is a partner. 2. He is a joint-heir. 3. He is accessary to it. அவனுக்குமெனக்குமுடந்தையில்லை. I have no connexion with him. 2. I am not related to him. 3. I have no business with him. 4. I disown him. உடந்தைப்பட, inf. To consent, become accessary, to have a hand in, be engaged in, ஒருமிக்க. 76)

uṇṭu (p. 59) [ex உள்.] Third pers. neut. sing. of the symbolic verb உள், but now used with all persons, in both numbers and in both திணை, it is, it exists, there is, there was, there are, there may be, there might be, &c. In some connexions, it implies a degree of uncertainly, குறிப்புவினை முற்று. 2. Existing, existence, a thing that exists, உள்ளது. This and the participle உள்ள, (with its appellative) are the only parts of the verb, generally brought into colloquial use. எனக்குத்தெய்வமுண்டு. God is my help, (எனக்கு is often omitted)--spoken of one when deserted, ill-treated, &c. அதற்குநானுண்டுஅவனுண்டு. This concerns him and me exclusively (you need not meddle with it). 2. He and I are responsible for that. உண்டில்லையெனல், Either affirming or denying. உண்டுபட, inf. [prop. உண்டாக.] To come into existence, to become formed or produced by natural process evident to the senses, to happen, occur, தோன்ற. 2. To have origin, உண்டாக. 3. To grow, thrive, flourish, முளைக்க. உண்டுபட்டனவெல்லாமழியும். All that is created will perish, or be reduced to its primeval elements. இதிலுப்புண்டுபட்டது. Salt is formed here. அங்கேயொருகலகமுண்டுபட்டிருக்கிறது. An insurrection is sprung up there. உண்டுபடுத்த, inf. [prov. prop. உண் டுபண்ண.] To make, create, &c.--as உண் டாக்க. 2. To fabricate, make a false story, ஏற்படுத்த. வேதம்உண்டுபடுத்தியசீர்த்திவியாதமுனி. Vedaviasar renowned as the compiler of the Vedas. (திருச்.) உண்டுபண்ண, inf. To make, bring into existence. உண்டுபண்ணிவைக்க, inf. To make, to establish, render permanent. 2. To rear plants, &c. 3. To establish one in life. உண்டென, inf. To say it is. 2. urimai (p. 64) s. Propriety, peculiarity, proprietorship, appropriateness, property or quality of a person or thing, உரியதன்மை. 2. Heritage, inheritance, hereditary and unalienable rights, சுதந்திரம். 3. Relationship, the ties of consanguinity, இனம். 4. Natural or correlative duty, obligation, கடமை. 5. Possession or right of possession of property devolving on a child, which, had the parents been living, would have belonged to them, சுதந்திரவாட்சி. உரிமையின்மை, s. Want of right or privilege. உரிமையெடுக்க, inf. To take possession, to enjoy or claim one's share of an inheritance, produce, &c. உரிமைவழி, s. Consanguinity, lineage, ancestral connection, சம்பந்தமுறை. 2. Inheritance or right of possession from ancestors, தொன்றுதொட்டுவருஞ்சுதந்தி ரம். உரிமைவிட, inf. To give freedom to, to manumit a slave. சொல்லுரிமை, s. A fine emphatic expression. உரியது, s. That which is proper to, peculiar to, tending to, liable to, exposed to, deserved, deserving, worthy of, appropriate to, obnoxious to, உரித்தா னது. இததற்குரியசொல். This is the appropriate word for it. உரியதண்டனை, s. Condign punishment, deserved chastisement. உரியபொருள், s. The primary meaning of a passage, உரியவர்த்தம். 2. Property in which one has a peculiar right, சுதந்திரமானதிரவியம். உரியர்--உரியார்--உரியோர், s. Proprietors, உடையவர்கள். 2. Heirs, சுதந்திரர். 3. Near or responsible relations, சம்பந்த முடையார். 4. Those destitute of love live only to themselves, whereas they who possess it are ready to give up their lives (lit. bones) for others. (குறள்.) உரியவன்--உரியன்--உரியோன், s. uẕlu (p. 67) --உழல், கிறேன், உழன்றேன், வேன், உழல, v. n. To whirl, revolve, சுழல. 2. To play, be in motion, to swing as a door on its hinges, &c., ஆட. 3. To wander, roam, to be unsettled, be agitated, சுற்றித்திரிய. 4. To oscillate, vibrate, அசைய. 5. To waver, be anxious, to be vexed, worried, மனஞ்சுழல. 6. eṉ (p. 75) கிறேன், றேன், பேன், என்ன, v. a. To say, name, pronounce, express, do, indicate, either by words or signs, expressed, or implied, என்றுசொல்ல. This is the common form for quotation, in which sense it generally occurs in all its various uses. In the infinitive and other parts it is commonly found with one ன் only. என்கு. I say. என்கும். We say. என்ப--என்பர்--என்மர்--என்மனார்--என்றிசினோ ர். They say, they may say, some say, &c. அப்படியென்கிறான். So he says. 2. He does so (the speaker making the sign or sound intended). இல்லையென்கிறேன். I say no-implying impatience, displeasure, emphasis, &c. பணமில்லையென்கிறான். He says he has no money. போவென்கிறேன். I tell you to go, lit. I say go, and implying I have said so before. அவனைப்போவென்னப்போகிறான். When I say go, he goes. காமதேனுவென்கிறபசு. The cow (of the supernals) called Kamadhanu. நானென்னுமெண்ணம். Self conceit, consequence. என்பவன், appel. n. He who says so. 2. He who is called so. பெரியானென்பவன். Perian, or he who is called Perian. ஆவென்ன, inf. To open the mouth, lit. to say ஆ. ஈயென்ன, inf. To show the teeth, lit. to say ஈ. என்பிக்க, inf. To cause another to say, to prove, சொல்லுவிக்க. அதையவன்வாயினாலேயுமக்கென்பிப்பேன். I will prove it to you from his mouth. என்று. The gerund of the verb என், used instead of என the infinitive (which is the poetic usage in this connexion), it serves to end a quotation and to connect it with the following part of the sentence, in which case it often corresponds to the conjunction that, வினையெச்சம். அவனையடித்தேனென்றுசொன்னான். He said that he struck him, lit. he said, I struck him. Note 1st. In connexion with appropriate verbs, என்று, and என often mean to expect, to think, imagine, to suppose, to pretend, to desire, எண்ணுதல் or some such verb being implied; பணந் தெய்வமென்றுநடக்கிறான், he makes money his god; அதுபுகையென்றிருந்தேன், I thought it was smoke, I took it for smoke; அவர்வருவாரென்றிருக்கிறேன், I expect him to come; அவன்சொன்னானென்றுவந்தாயா, have you came because he told you?--Note 2d. According to நன்னூல், என்று and என are இடைச்சொல் or particles, with several specific uses, the other parts of the verb are or may be included. 1. With பெயர் or names; அழுக்காறெனவொரு பாவி, the sinner called envy. (குறள்.) 2. With குறிப்பு or symbolic forms; சிக்கென வூன்றியவேர், the root which has taken firm hold; திடீரெனவந்தான், he came suddenly. 3. With இசை or (imitative) sounds; ஒல்லெனவொலித்தது, it sounded ஒல்; அடுக் கு or repititive symbolic terms are included in this class; படபடென்றுநடுங்கி னான், he trembled (shook, shivered, &c.) greatly; சுஃஃறென்னுந்தண்டோட்டுப்பெண் ணை, the palmyras whose green leaves rustled (emitted the sound of சுஃஃறு). 4. With எண் enumeration, in which they are equivalent to the copulative conjunction; சாத்தனெனக்கொற்றனெனப்பூதனெ னமூவரும்வந்தார், Sattan, Kottan and Bhuta came; தேனென்றுபாலென்றுவமையில்லாமொழி, words unequalled (in sweetness) by honey or milk. 5. With பண்பு or symbolic terms expressive of quality and intensity; சிவேரெனச்சிவந்தது, it reddened to a crimson; வெள்ளெனவா, come in the grey of the morning; வெள்ளெனவி ளர்த்தது, it became very white.--Note 3d. என்று and என also serve to express similitude, like, as, &c.; புலியெனப்பாய்ந் தான், he sprang like a tiger; காந்தளெனக் கைநீட்டி, extending her காந்தள்-like hand. --Note 4th. என and என்று are also used to express pre-eminence, &c.; இன்னதென் றில்லை, it is no matter which; ஆரென்றுநி னைத்தாய், who do you suppose I am? I am not to be treated thus, &c., உயிரென் றுபார்க்கவில்லை, he does not (or did not) regard even life; அவனுக்கின்னாரென்றில்லை, it is no matter to him who; குருவென் றுபேணுகின்றிலன், he does not respect even the guru; எவ்வளவென்றில்லை, it is no matter how much. 2. How much soever, how little soever. 3. It is illimitable, undefined, the quantity is unknown; வாய்வயிறென்றுபார்க்கிறதில்லை, he does not give himself time to eat.--Note 5th. என and என்று are also used with reiterative symbolic terms; மடம்டென்றொலித்த து, it sounded மட, மட; அடியடியென்றடித் தான், he beat him soundly; தலைதலையென்ற டித்துக்கொண்டான், he beat his head greatly through rage, grief, despair, &c.; lit. saying, 'Head, head;' வாய்வாயென்றடிக்க, to beat one's mouth greatly--in sorrow, despair, &c.; எறியெறியென்றெறிந்தான், he threw many times; lit. he threw, saying, 'Throw, throw.'--Note 6th. என and என்று, with a dative imply, designed or appointed for, sacred or devoted to, for the sake of, &c.; சுவாமிக்கென்றுநேர்ந் தது, it is vowed (devoted) to God; தன்பிள்ளைக்கென்றுவைத்துக்கொண்டான், he kept it for his child; எனக்கென்றெடுக்கமாட் டேன், I will not take it for myself-Note 7th. The subjunctive என்றால் joined to verbs or used when verbs are implied forms the subjunctive of those verbs.--Note 8th. The subjunctive என் னில், poetically, என்னின், if, is contracted into எனில் and எனின், and in classical usage to எல் and என்: உம் joined to those forms makes them though; they are added to other verbs or to nouns; ஓரடி யென்கிலும்நட, walk, if it be but one step. 40)

oṉṟu (p. 84) s. One (the numeral), ஒன் றென்னுமெண். 2. One thing, அஃறிணையொரு மை. 3. Union, coalescence, ஐக்கம். 4. In construction, it means either, or--as ஒன் றுதீவினையைவிடு, ஒன்றுஅதின்பயனைநுகர், either abandon your evil deeds, or take the consequences. ஒன்றத்தனைகொடுத்தால்நானிரண்டத்தனைகொடுப் பேன். If he has given once as much, I will give twice. ஒன்றாறுகிறானில்லை. He so wonders that he knows not when to cease extolling. 2. His sorrow, regret, &c. is unremitted. ஒன்றிலிருந்தொன்றிலேபாய்தல். Talking loosely, incoherently, jumping from one thing to another. ஒன்றினுளொன்று. One among another, reciprocally, mutually. ஒன்றுகேள். Listen to a word of advice, hear what I have to say. ஒன்றுக்குமசையான். He is moved by nothing. ஒன்றுமொன்றுமிரண்டென்றுதெரியாதவன். A person so ignorant that he cannot tell that one and one make two. ஒன்றுவிட்டொருநாள். Every other day, alternate days. ஒன்றேயொன்று. One only. ஒன்றோஅவனாலேகேடு. Have I sustained but one loss by him? நான்சொன்னதொன்று, அவன்செய்ததொன்று. I told him one thing and he did another. மனமொன்றுவாக்கொன்று. His profession is one thing and intention another. ஒன்றரை, s. One and a half. ஒன்றன்கூட்டம், s. A collection of similar things, ஒருபொருட்கூட்டம். (p.) ஒன்றன்பால், s. [in grammar.] Neuter singular of the irrational class, அஃறி ணையொருமைப்பால். ஒன்றாய், adv. Together, altogether, ஒன்றாக. ஒன்றாலொன்றும். By any means, யாதொன்றினாலும். ஒன்றாலொன்றுங்குறையில்லை. There is no lack at all--commonly applied to provisions, the country produce, &c. ஒன்றி, s. [vul. ஒண்டி.] One, alone, solitary, lonely (spoken of persons), தனி. ஒன்றிக்காரன்--ஒன்றியாள், s. A bachelor, a widower, a single or lonely person, தனியாள். ஒன்றினமுடித்தறன்னினமுடித்தல், v. noun. For one thing, viz.: to make water--the common expression among school boys when asking to go out for this purpose. ஒன்றுக்கிருக்க, inf. To sit or squat down or go for one thing, viz.: to make water, நீர்விட. ஒன்றுக்குப்போக, inf. To make water. ஒன்றுக்கொன்று. To or for each other. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுசரி. They are equal, alike, &c. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுபேசிக்கொண்டார்கள். [vul.] They have called each other by hard names. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுவித்தியாசம். Different one from another. ஒன்றுபட, inf. He sold his goods at half price. ஒன்றுமண்டடி--ஒன்றுமன்றடி, s. Concord, union, harmony, intimate familiarity. 2. Confusion, want of order or system. ஒன்றுமறியாதவன், s. One who knows nothing. ஒன்றுமறியாதவனுமில்லைஎல்லாமறிந்தவனுமில்லை. None is so ignorant as to know nothing --none so wise as to know every thing. ஒன்றுமற்றவன், s. A useless person, உபயோகமற்றவன். 2. A very poor person, தரித்திரன். ஒன்றுமில்லாமை--ஒன்றுமின்மை, s. Utter destitution, the relinquishing of every thing--as an act of devotion. (அறநெறி.) ஒன்றேகால், s. oru (p. 83) adj. [changed from ஒன்று, which is the root.] Before vowels and sometimes before consonants, the உ often is dropped and the ஒ lengthened--as ஓரிலை, a leaf. In some connexions and with appropriate emphasis, it means sameness, singularity, peculiarity, specialness, celebrity, &c. ஒருகூடுமுடைந்தவனொன்பதுகூடுமுடைவான். . . . . A foot or one foot, ஒற்றைக்கால். 2. adv. [improp. ஒருக்கால்.] Once, sometime or other, for once, sometimes, ஒருமுறை. ஒருகாலிலேநிற்கிறான். He insists on (going, having, &c.), he is firmly resolved. ஒருகாலும். Never. ஒருகாலுஞ்செய்யான். He never does it, he never will do it, he never can do it. ஒருகாலுமில்லை. Never, at no time, not once. ஒருகாலுமுன்னைக்கைவிடேன். I will never forsake thee. ஒருகாலும்பொய்சொல்லான். He will never tell a lie. ஒருகாலே, adv. In great abundance, greatly. 2. Once, at once, continuously. ஒருகாலேகூட்டமாய்ப்போக. To go together in one continuous company. ஒருகாலே தேடிக் குவித்துக்கொண்டான். He has laid up a vast quantity. ஒருகாலேபேசுகிறானொன்றும்விளங்கவில்லை. He speaks a great deal, but nothing is understood. ஒருகாலேயுறுக்கிக்கொண்டுவருகிறார். He is scolding much. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாங்கொடுக்கிறது. To give all at once. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாஞ்செய்ய. To do all at once, to finish the whole. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாம்வாங்க. To receive altogether. ஒருகாற்கண்டசீராயிருக்க. To be unchangeable. ஒருகாற்செய்தவனிருகாற்செய்வான். He who has done so once, may do it again. இன்னமொருகால். Again, once more. மாற்றானுமொருகாலிதஞ்சொல்லுகிறான். Even one's foe may sometimes speak to one's advantage. ஒருகிடை, v. noun. Being bedridden; confinement by sickness or grief to a recumbent posture, கிடந்தகிடை. ஒருகிடையாகக்கிடத்தல். Lying still, unable or unwilling to rise. ஒருகுடி, s. The relations of one family. ஒருகுடித்தமர், s. Persons of the same family, near relatives--commonly on the paternal side, தாயத்தார். ஒருகூட்டு, s. Close union, combination between two persons, taking another's part, ஒருசேர்க்கை. ஒருகை, s. (fig.) Party, union, conjunction, combination, ஒருவகுப்பு, lit. one hand. அவர்களொருகையாயிருக்கிறார்கள். A partial fast during which one meal only is taken in the day, on Sunday in reference to the sun, by persons with diseased eyes; on Monday to Siva to cure diseases generally, &c., ஒருபொழுதுண்டல். ஒருசந்திப்பானையைநாயறியுமா. Can a dog distinguish a sacred vessel? ஒருசந்தியிருக்க, inf. To make but one meal a day. ஒருசாயல், s. Being alike, ஒருவி தம். 2. Singularity, அபூர்வம். ஒருசாயலாயிருக்க, inf. [in literature.] An author's choice or decision between two different sentiments found in the writings of others, 32--உத்தியி லொன்று. ஒருதலைநோவு--ஒருதலைவலி, s. Pain on one side of the head. ஒருதலைப்பாக்கு, s. [prov.] An imperfect arecanut, defective on one side. ஒருதலைவழக்கு--ஒருதலைநியாயம், s. Partiality in giving judgment, statements, descriptions, &c., leaning to one side or party, an ex-party statement. ஒருதலைவழக்குநூலினுஞ்செம்மை. The statement made by only one party in a suit is straighter than a line; i. e. one tale is good till another is told. ஒருதன்மை, s. Being of one and the same kind, ஒருவிதம். 2. Incomparableness, ஒப்பற்றதன்மை. 3. Unchangeableness, மாறாமை. ஒருதாரை, s. One edge. 2. adv. [prov.] At once, altogether, without interruption, ஒருமிக்க. ஒருதாரைக்கத்தி, s. An unseasonable time. இவனிராத்திரியொருநேரத்தில்என்வீட்டுக்குவந் தான். He came last night to my house at an unseasonable hour. ஒருபடி, adv. Tolerably, ordinarily, ஒருவாறு. 2. In some degree, to some extent, ஒருவிதம். ஒருபடிசெய்துமுடித்தார்கள். They have done it, finished it, &c. with great labor. 2. They have done it defectively, exceptionably, not thoroughly. ஒருபடித்தாய். So and so, tolerably. ஒருபடியாக, inf. [used as an adverb.] In some sense, manner, degree, partly. 2. A very strict guard, close custody--applied to the protection of girls arrived at the age of puberty, &c., great care, great strictness, கட்டானகாவல். கட்டுங்காவலுமாயிருக்க, inf. To be in close confinement. கட்டுக்கிடை--கட்டுக்கிடையன், s. Cloth or other goods lying long unsold, நாட்பட்டசரக்கு. கட்டுக்குத்தகை, s. A contract or lease of land for many years together, a contract for a whole dhoney without reference to the number of trips, the weight of the cargo, &c. கட்டுக்கூட்டு, s. To yield to, to submit, be influenced by, be brought under the power of, be overcome by, கட் டுக்குள்ளடங்க. 2. To be bound by spells or otherwise restrained, மந்திரமுதலியவற் றாற்கட்டுப்பட. 3. To be constipated--as the system; to be obstructed--as waters, as humors in the system, blood, urine, menstruation, &c., தடைப்பட. ஒருமயிரினாலேகட்டுப்படுவான். He may be bound by a single hair; i. e. he will be easily persuaded or prevailed upon. கட்டுப்படுத்த, inf. To ascertain the origin and cure of a disease by a magical exercise--a sort of divination. கட்டுப்பூட்டு, s. [prov.] Ornaments for the body, jewels, ஆபரணம். கட்டுப்பெட்டி, s. [vul.] A stiff basket braided with ratan, olas, &c., fastened by tying, for holding clothes, &c. கட்டுப்பேச்சு--கட்டுவார்த்தை--க ட்டுவிசேஷம், s. A fabricated story, fiction, வீண்கதை. கட்டுமட்டு, s. A float or raft, a catamaran, மிதவை. கட்டுமாமரம், s. An engrafted large kind of mango tree, ஓர்வகைமாமரம்--also called ஒட்டுமாமரம். கட்டுமாம்பழம், s. A mango fruit which, when it matures, is protected with a case. எட்டியிலேகட்டுமரம்பழமுண்டாமோ. Will the bitter poisonous எட்டி tree produce mangos? கட்டுமுகனை, s. [prov.] Authority, custody, trust, அதிகாரம். 2. management, direction, administration, supervision, superintendence, மேல்விசாரணை. 3. Economy, frugality, husbandry, சிக்கனம். 4. Strictness, rigor, restraint, precision, limitation, restriction, check, confinement, constraint, கண்டிப்பு. 5. Exclusion, debarring, தடை. கட்டுரை, s. An avowal, a solemn declaration, undoubted truth, infallible expression, உறுதிச்சொல். 2. A pithy or sententious expression, a proverb, பழ மொழி. 3. Metaphorical language, magnifying or depreciating by figure of speech, புனைந்துரை. கட்டுரையன்றுபட்டாங்கே. This is not an exaggeration, but the plain truth. (பிரபுலிங்.) கட்டுவடம், s. A necklace, மணி மாலை. கட்டுவர்க்கம், s. Clothes, all sorts of wearing apparel, உடை. கட்டுவாக்கியம், s. Puns, quibbles, a conundrum. கட்டுவாங்கம், s. A club, &c., கட டங்கம். கட்டுவிட, inf. To be loosened, untied, கட்டவிழ. 2. To be broken, கட்ட ற. 3. To loosen--as the joints and muscles at death, உடற்பொருத்துவிட. 4. To be reduced, weakened--as the body, பலவீனப்பட. கட்டுவிட்டுப்பாய, inf. To burst out and flow--as water by making a breach in an embankment. கட்டுவேலை, s. A fabric, a structure, building. கட்டோசை, s. A tremendous noise, a loud report, பேரொலி. கட்டோடே, adv. [vul.] Wholly, entirely--used with words implying rejection, destruction, &c., or with negatives. கட்டோடேயழிந்துபோயிற்று. It is utterly ruined. என்னிடத்திலேகட்டோடேயில்லை. I have none at all. கட்டோடேதள்ள, inf. To reject utterly. நடுக்கட்டு, s. A girdle. 2. The middle building of a house. சாதிக்கட்டு, s. The customs, duties, obligations, &c., of caste. சமயக்கட்டு, s. Religious bonds, obligations. சரீரக்கட்டு, s. A compact body, firm constitution. சரீரக்கட்டானவன், s. One with a strong constitution. நீர்க்கட்டு, s. A stoppage of urine, strangury. மலக்கட்டு, s. Constipation, costiveness. மலக்கட்டுச்சன்னி, s. A fit of apoplexy causing constipation. முறைக்கட்டு, s. [prov.] Marrying a girl within the degrees of consanguinity. உட்கட்டு, s. A woman's necklace. பின்கட்டு, s. The back building of a house. 2. Tackling the arms together behind the back. முன்கட்டு, s. The foremost portion of a house containing two or more ranges one behind the other. 37)

kaṉmam (p. 102) s. Moral actions, especially in their effects--as the cause of transmigrations and their accompanying joys and sorrows, pleasure and pains, intelligence or stupidity, &c., சஞ்சிதகன்மம். 2. In the Agamas, actions and their effects are of three classes, viz: 1. ஆகாமியம், moral actions, good and evil of the present life, considered as the source of future births with their suffering and enjoyment. 2. சஞ்சிதம், the accumulated actions of the soul in former births, the retributions of which are to be experienced in future transmigrations. 3. பிராரத்தம் or பிராரத்துவம், the enjoyment and sufferings apportioned to the soul in the present state --as the retributions of actions in former births. அவனைக்கொல்லாதேகன்மம்பிடிக்கும். Do not kill him, if you do, the action will seize you. கன்மங்கட்டுப்பட, inf. See கருமங் கட்டுப்பட. கன்மகாண்டம், s. A medical book treating of diseases, as caused by the sins of former births, and the means necessary to remove them, so that medicines may prove effectual, ஓர்வைத்தியநூல். கன்மசண்டாளன், s. See கரும சண்டாளன். கன்மசாந்தி, s. A ceremony for the expiation of the evil of former deeds, கருமநிவர்த்தி. கன்மஞ்செய்தகுடி, s. A family guilty of wicked actions in former births, now made manifest by their sufferings. கன்மத்தியாகம், s. Expiation of the evil of a former birth. கன்மத்துரோகி, s. A wicked wretch, a criminal, சண்டாளன். கன்மநிவர்த்தி--கன்மநிவாரணம், s. See கருமநிவர்த்தி. கன்மந்தொலைய, inf. To become extinct, to be worked or eaten out and terminated--as former evil deeds. கன்மபந்தம், s. [as கருமபந்தம்.] The bond or connexion between the sins of former births and their subsequent punishment. கன்மபரிபாகம், s. Ripening, or expiration of the accumulated merit of the actions of former births, கன்மவொழிவு. கன்மபாதகம், s. A heinous crime. கன்மபாதகன், s. One guilty of some heinous crime, கொடியபாதகன். கன்மபூமி, s. The earth as the theatre of moral actions, or place where virtue and vice are practised, and their respective merit and demerit accumulated, பூலோகம். கன்மம்பிடிக்க, inf. To attend, follow, or pursue--as the guilt of crimes personified. கன்மம்புசிக்க, inf. To experience the good or evil of former actions. கன்மவலை, s. The net of moral actions, கன்மபாசம், i. e. the entanglements of births, or actions and their result, in subsequent transmigrations. கன்மவாதனை, s. See கருமவேதனை. கன்மரோகம்--கன்மவியாதி, s. See கருமவியாதி. கன்மவுடம்பு, s. Bodies assumed, as a result of former deeds, கன்மசரீரம். கன்மாதி, s. Funeral rites, &c., for deceased ancestors, கர்மாதி. கன்மி, s. A heinous sinner, a perpetrator of crimes, கருமி. கன்மேந்திரியம், s. The five organs of action, தொழிற்கருவி. See இந்திரியம். 68)

kyiṟu (p. 96) s. Rope, cord, string, twine, line, bobbin, வடம். கயிறடிக்க, inf. To strike lines on timber with a colored string--as a carpenter. கயிறறுந்தஆட்கள், s. [prov.] Vagabonds, vagrants, strollers. கயிறுகட்ட, inf. To put off from day to day. 2. To show a pretended consent--as a seller to give his goods to one who offers a low price. 3. To employ one to deceive another. கயிறுசாத்த--கயிறுபோட, inf. To pass a string between the leaves of an ola book in order to divine by it. கயிறுசிக்குப்பட, inf. To be embroiled, to disagree, to quarrel--as husband and wife, &c., தொந்தரவுபட. கயிறுதடி, s. One of the weaver's implements, நெய்வார்கருவியிலொன்று. கயிறுதிரிக்க--கயிறுமுறுக்க, inf. To twist, twine, cord, &c. கயிறுபிடிக்க--கயிறுபின்ன, inf. To plat bobbin, cord, &c. கயிறுமாற, inf. To change the rope on the head of a horse or ox newly bought, to ratify the purchase--considered auspicious to the seller. (திருவிளை.) கயிற்றுக்கோல், s. A kind of balance or steel-yard, ஓர்தராசு. கயிற்றுக்கோலாட்டம், v. noun. Playing with strings and sticks so that a weft or lace is formed thereby, ஓர்வ கைவிளையாட்டு. கயிற்றுச்சுருள், s. A coil of rope. See சுருளை. கயிற்றுப்பொருத்தம், s. Astrological agreement required in order to the assumption of the marriage symbol-one of the ten points in astrology in which there should be agreement in the horoscopes of the male and female in order to the suitableness of a marriage connexion.--Note. When such agreement is wanting, though the marriage takes place, the symbol is not put on. கயிற்றேணி, s. A rope-ladder, the shrouds of a vessel, நூலேணி. வடக்கயிறு, s. A rope which is used in lowering or elevating the ploughshare. 2. A great rope used at Hindu festivals for drawing the car. தொடுகயிறு, s. A rope used in ploughing. 51)

kli (p. 96) s. Noise, clamor, sound, ஒலி. 2. The கலிப்பா. species of verse and its varieties. (See பா.) 3. Sea, ocean, கடல். 4. Battle, war, போர். 5. Deceit, fraud, வஞ்சகம். 6. Strength, force, வலி. (p.) 7. Misery, misfortune, disaster, calamity-also misery, personified as a deity, சிறுமை. 8. The fourth age of the world or that of vice, misery, deterioration, &c. See கலியுகம். கலிக்குப்புதுமையானகாரியமாயிருக்கிறது. It is a strange thing in this age. கலிகாலம், s. A time of misery, bad times--as resulting from the present age, கொடுமையானகாலம். கலிதீர்த்தான். He who put an end to misery. கலித்தளை, s. Mode of connexion of metrical feet in கலிப்பா. See தளை. கலித்தாழிசை, s. A class of verse, கலிப்பாவினத்திலொன்று. கலித்துருமம், s. The தான்றிமரம்-A tree yielding a nut much used in medicines, it is said in நைடதம் that Kali, the god of the iron age, once concealed himself in the fruit of this tree, Terminalia bellerica. (p.) கலித்துறை, s. A class of verse including several species, கலிப்பாவினத்தி லொன்று. கட்டளைக்கலித்துறை, s. A class of கலித்துறை verse. கலிப்பா, s. A verse of which there are ten kinds, viz.: 1. நேரிசை ஒத்தாழிசைக் கலிப்பா. 2. அம்போதரங்க ஒத்தாழிசைக்கலிப்பா. 3. தரவு கொச்சக்கலிப்பா. 4. தரவிணைக்கொச்சக் கலிப்பா. 5. சிஃறாழிசைக்கொச்சக்கலிப்பா. 6. பஃறாழிசைகொச்சக்கலிப்பா. 7.மயங்கிசைக்கொ ச்சக்கலிப்பா. 8. ஒருபோகு கொச்சக்கலிப்பா. 9. வண்ணக ஒத்தாழிசைக்கலிப்பா. 1. வெண் கலிப்பா. கட்டளைக்கலிப்பா, s. A species of கலிப்பா verse. கலியர், s. Soldiers, warriors, combatants, படைவீரர். 2. The poor, destitute, தரித்திரர். (p.) கலியாத்தம்--கலியாப்தம், s.
