eccil (p. 73) s. Remains, or refuse of food, crumbs, orts (deemed impure), சேஷம். 2. Any thing defiled by contact with the mouth, saliva, &c., மிச்சில்; [ex எஞ்சு.] எச்சிற்கையாற்காக்கையுமோட்டான். He will not even scare away a crow with his hand while eating, lest any grain of rice fall thereby. எச்சிலாக்க--எச்சிற்படுத்த, inf. To defile food or any thing, by bringing it into contact with the mouth; to defile food by the hand, or spoon in feeding, உச்சிட்டப்படுத்த. 2. To deflour a woman, deprive a damsel of her virginity, either by force or with consent, கன்னிமைகெடுக்க. எச்சிலார், s. Low-caste people, இழிஞர். (p.) எச்சிலிலை--எச்சிற்கல்லை, s. The leaf on which one has eaten. எச்சிலுமிய--எச்சிலுமிழ--எச்சில் துப்ப, inf. To spit. (c.) எச்சில்வாய், s. Mouth unwashed after eating, கழுவாதவாய். எச்சிற்கலக்க, inf. To eat the food left by the bridegroom--as a Hindu bride does on the occasion of her marriage. 2. To eat the food left by others--as friends. எச்சிற்கலப்பு, s. The above ceremony. எச்சிற்காறியுமிழ், inf. To force up the phlegm and spit it out. எச்சிற்கிதம்பாட, inf. To assent to what is wrong from an unworthy motive. எச்சிற்குழி, s. A cavity in a court-yard, used as a spittoon, எச்சில் போடுங்குழி. எச்சிற்பட, inf. To become defiled--as food, &c., by saliva, or contact with the mouth. எச்சிற்பருக்கை, s. Grains of rice fallen while eating, சிந்திக்கிடக்குஞ்சோறு. எச்சிற்பேய், s. A diminutive demon exceedingly voracious, ஓர்பிசாசம். 2. A person very fond of dainties, பெ ருந்தீனிக்காரன். எச்சிற்றழும்பு--எச்சிற்றேமல், s. A kind of ring-worm supposed to be induced by contact with the saliva of others, தழுதணை. எச்சின்மாற்ற, inf. To purify a place after eating by smearing it anew with cowdung. கண்ணெச்சில், s. Evil imagined to be caused by other people's eyes. கண்ணெச்சிற்கழிக்க, inf. cāṇi (p. 174) s. Dung of cows and buffaloes, and very rarely of some other animals, ஆப்பிமுதலியன. 2. [in combination.] A farrier, horse-doctor, குதிரைச்சாணி; which see. (c.) சாணிதெளிக்க, inf. To sprinkle macerated cow-dung, for purification, in the morning before the house--also inside, before and after eating--after the entrance of an impure person-around a corn-heap for threshing, &c. சாணிதட்ட, inf. To make cow-dung into cakes for fuel. சாணிப்பால், s. The juice or essence extracted from cow-dung. சாணிப்பிணம், s. A useless, worthless, dull fellow, (lit.) a mere mass of cowdung. சாணிமெழுக, inf. To smear with cow-dung--as a floor, &c. சாணிபோட, inf. To evacuate dung --as a cow or buffaloe. 2. To sprinkle macerated cow-dung--as சாணிதெளிக்க. சாணிக்கெண்டை, s. cēmam (p. 208) s. (also க்ஷேமம்.) Preserving, protection, safety, preservation, காவல். 2. Safeguard, defence, security, தஞ்சம். 3. Hoard, treasure buried, things reserved, புதைபொருள் 4. Binding and shrouding a corpse for burning or interment, சவச்சேமம். 5. (c.) Happiness, well-being, welfare, இன்பம். 6. A secure place, a room, well guarded, அரணானவிடம். 7. A prison, cage, dungeon, or subterraneous prison, காராக் கிரகம். 8. A guard-house, சிறைச்சாலை. சேமம்புகினுஞ்சாமத்துறங்கு. Though you are in a prison sleep only three hours. சேமக்காரன், s. [prov.] A guard. 2. A trusty, confidential person. 3. A thrifty. careful person. சேமங்களைவிசாரிக்க, inf. as சேதிவிசா ரிக்க.) To inquire after one's welfare. சேமங்கொள்ள, inf. [prov.] To smear a place with cowdung, lay a corpse there and dress it, for the funeral pile, or the grave. சேமகாலம், s. Time of prosperity or plenty--opposite to சாமகாலம். சேமதருமம், s. Substantial, or permanent merit, virtue, &c.--oppos. to மா யாதருமம். சேமத்திரவியம்-சேமநிதி, s. Gold, gems, &c, kept with great care. (p.) சேமத்தில்வைக்க, inf. [in ancient history.] To put in custody--as children born under an unlucky horoscope, who are kept from the sight of their parents a certain number of years, according to the prescription of an astrologer. 2. A religious festival, a great or special day, a holy day. திருநீலகண்டன், s. A large kind of centiped, ஓர்பூரான். 2. One of the sixtythree devotees of Siva, சிவனடியாரிலொரு வன். 3. A very wicked man. திருநீறு, s. (also விபூதி.) Sacred ashes of burnt cowdung, one of the chief marks of the Saiva sect. திருநீறணிய--திருநீறிட--திருநீறுபூச, inf. To rub sacred ashes on the forehead, breast, &c. திருநீறுசுட--திருநீறுவிளைவிக்க, inf. To make sacred ashes. திருநீற்றுக்காப்பு, s. Sacred ashes rubbed on one's forehead by a great person as a charm or for benefit to the soul. 2. As திருநீறு. திருநீற்றுக்கோயில்--திருநீற்றுப்பை, s. A bag for sacred ashes. திருநீற்றுப்பச்சை--திருநீற்றுப்பத்திரி, s. Balls of sacred ashes. திருநீற்றுமடல், s. A metal stand in a temple with an urn like the sheaths of a pine flower, for sacred ashes. திருநெல்வேலி, s. A town south of Madura, Tinnevelly, ஓர்பட்டணம். திருநெற்றிமாலை, s. A garland for the forehead of an idol. திருநோக்கு, s. The gracious look of the deity, or a great person. 2. The official look of the guru in the administration of the தீட்சை. திருப்படைவீடு, s. Places sacred to Siva, Vishnu, &c., who are supposed to be present with their retinue at their respective shrines. திருப்பணி, s. Service in an idol temple, கோயிற்சேவகம். 2. Work on the temple as masonry, carpentry, &c., கோயில்வேலை. திருப்பணிமுட்டு, s. Materials, &c., for building a temple. திருப்பதி, s. Tripaty, a place sacred to Vishnu. (See வடமலை and திசை.) 2. The early rising of the god--a song daily sung to awaken the god, especially of a festival of ten days in December; also sung by the people on these days to rouse one another to their religious duties, ஓர்பிர பந்தம். திருப்பாடல், s. A hymn, a sacred song. திருப்பாட்டு, s. Hymns or songs in praise of a deity, commonly ancient. 2. [in irony.] A satire, lampoons. திருப்பாவாடை, s. A long cloth on which offerings of rice are presented to idols. திருப்புகழ், s. Songs, odes in praise of a god. திருப்பூட்டு, v. noun. Putting on the wedding badge, as the essential part of marriage, தாலிகட்டுகை. 2. The wedding badge, தாலி. திருமகள்--திருமாது, s. Lukshmi. திருமகண்மைந்தன், s. Kama; [ex மைந் தன், son.] திருமஞ்சனம், s. Daily bathing of the idol, for its purification. திருமஞ்சனமாட்டல், v. noun. Bathing an idol. திருமண், s. Sacred earth used by Vaishnuvas in marking their foreheads, as . திருமயிலை, s. There are also சூரியபுடம், exposure to the sun; தானிய புடம், purification of oils by placing them in grain; பூமிபுடம், or பூடம், of salts by placing them in the earth, in bottles. புடமிட--புடம்போட,புடம்வைக்க, inf. To refine metals, or sublimate medicines. புடவிக்கேபம்--புடவிட்சேபம்--சுத்தவிக் கேபம்--சுத்தவிட்சேபம், s. [also புடநதி.] The true celestial latitude of a heavenly body. 2. Apparent distance of the centres of the sun and moon at conjunction, being the sum (or difference, as the case may be), of the three விக்கேபம். சசிவிக்கேபம், இரவிவிக்கேபம், and நித்தியவிக் கேபம். 34)
