ari (p. 23) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To sift, separate larger and smaller bodies with the hand, sieve, riddle, &c., கொ ழிக்க. 2. To separate rubbish from dried leaves with the hand, in order to gather the latter for fuel, சருகரிக்க. 3. To beat and wash away, as flowing water on sand, or waves on the shore, washing away the earth and leaving the pebbles, &c. behind, நீர்மணலையரிக்க. 4. To wash rice, separate dust and grit from rice, &c., by washing; or particles of gold, silver, &c., கழுவிப்பி ரிக்க. 5. To gnaw as white ants and other vermin, செல்முதலியவரிக்க. 6. To corrode, as rust, &c., cut away, as caustics, consumemar, as moths, கல்ல. 7. To tease, vex by importunity, as creditors, an urgent child, &c., மனதையலைக்க. 8. To take away one's property by little and little, சிறிதுசிறிதாக க்கவர. 9. [in arith.] To divide, பங்கிட. அரித்துப்பிடுங்குகிறான். He teases or vexes by incessant entreaties, (lit.) he stings or bites as lice. மணிகளையரித்தெடுத்தான். He separated and took the precious stones. அரிகறையான், s. A teasing person, (lit.) a gnawing white ant. அரிபிளவை, s. A cancerous formation, constantly eating into the flesh, ஓர்வகைப்பரு. அரிபுழு, s. Worms constantly grawing and causing itching irritation, &c. (c.) அரிபெட்டி, s. A sieve or cullender, சல்லடை. அரிமணல், s. Fine sand. அரிப்பு, v. noun. Sifting, separating. 2. A sifter, one who sifts sand in the street, or the dust of the goldsmith. அரிப்புக்கூடை, s. A riddle.

arikaṇṭam (p. 24) s. An iron grate, or frames of cross bars, worn on the neck by devotees, as a mode of self-torture, ஓர்விரத வேஷம். 2. Teasing, annoying, vexing as the continual application of creditors for payment or other constant troubles, தொந் தரை; [ex *அரி, et கண்டம்.] (பணவிடுதூது.) 2)

Lust (or intense desire) knows no shame. உரோசங்கெட்டவன், s. A man destitute of spirit, honor, a dastard, a poltroon, மானவீனன். உரோசநாகரீகமில்லாதவன், s. One without honor or credit. உரோசப்பட, inf. To feel a sense of honor, delicacy. உரோசப்படுத்த, inf. To hurt another's feelings, to excite shame. உரோசிக்க, inf. To exhibit feelings of shame, honor, sensibility, delicacy, நாண. 2. uṟ (p. 67) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To seize--as by the throat, to pinch, press hard, press matter from a boil, &c., பிதுக்க. 2. To press out pulp, juice, &c., press out wholly, பிழிய. 3. To milk thoroughly, drain off, கறக்க. 4. [prov.] To strain to the last farthing, முற்றுங்கவர. 5. To nip, to pinch off, கிள்ளியெடுக்க. உறக்குந்துணையதோராலம்வித்து. Judgment, conviction, கருத்து. எண்ணமுற்றுரைக்கின். Were I to reckon and declare the number-- (நைட.) எண்ணியாரெண்ணமிழப்பர். The enemy who expected to conquer us will be disappointed. (குறள்.) தானென்கிறவெண்ணம்--நானென் கிறவெண்ணம், s. Self-conceit, self-importance. இன்னானென்கிறவெண்ணமவனுக்கில்லை. Rank of station with him is a matter of no consideration. எண்ணக்குறிப்பு, s. Motive, object, intention, design, நோக்கம். எண்ணங்குலைய, inf. To be perplexed in mind, மனங்கலங்க. 2. To be disconcerted in a plan, to be thwarted in one's expectation, எண்ணம்வீணாக. 3. ottukkoḷḷ (p. 81) inf. To assent, admit, accede to, allow, grant, concede, yield, acknowledge, சம்மதிக்க. 2. To fit, to be suitable, be convenient, comport with, தகுதியாக. 3. To take to account, credit, கணக்கிலேற்றுக்கொள்ள. காலமுநேரமுமொத்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை. The time and the season are not propitious according to the nativity which prognosticates evil, &c. 2. Duty, obligation, what is proper to be done or what one is bound to do, that which is devolved on one, accountability, responsibility, கடமை. 4. Measurement, அளவு. 5. A dry measure--the மரக்கால். கடனுக்குப்பாதகனாய்ப்போனவன். One who is deeply in debt. காலைக்கடன்கழித்தல். Performing the morning devotional exercises. அதுன்மேல்விழுந்தகடன். It is your duty. பகைவரைமுதலாய்ப்பரிவதுகடன். Even enemies ought to be loved. யான்செய்யவேண்டியகடன். The duty which I ought to discharge. கடனடைக்க--கடனிறுக்க--கட ன்றீர்க்க, inf. To clear off a debt. 2. To perform an obligation, duty, &c., in general. புத்திரன்றன்கடன்றீர்த்துப்போட்டான். The child has done his duty--spoken in commendation, or with reference to the performance of some exploit, &c. கடனாக, inf. [used adverbially.] As a loan, in loan. கடனாளி, s. One who is obliged to do a thing. 2. A debtor. கடன்கட்டு--கடன்வழி, s. Doing a thing for form's sake, not cordially. கடன்கட்டாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak roughly. கடன்கழிக்க, inf. To perform a duty, to return a kindness, &c., கடமை செய்ய. 2. To perform the last funeral rites for a deceased person, either by fire or water, பிதிர்கருமஞ்செய்ய. 3. To perform private devotions as the repetitions of the மந்திரம், &c., நித்தியகருமஞ்செய்ய. 4. To do a service for one out of compliment, or for form's sake, மனமின்றிச்செய்ய. கடன்காரன், s. A debtor, கடன் பட்டவன். 2. sometimes a creditor, கடன் கொடுத்தவன். கடன்கேட்க, inf. To demand a debt. 2. To ask for a loan of money. கடன்கொடுத்தவன், s. A creditor, a loaner. கடன்சீட்டு--கடன்பத்திரம்--க டன்முறி, (s.) A bond of debt. கடன்செய்ய, inf. To do one's duty, கடமைசெய்ய. 2. To perform funeral rites, பிதிர்கருமஞ்செய்ய. கடன்திருநாள், s. A holy festival observed in fulfilment of a vow. (Besch.) கடன்பட, inf. To contract debt, be indebted, கடனுக்குள்ளாக. கடன்பற்ற, inf. To recover payment of a debt, கடனறவிட. கடன்வாங்க, inf. To borrow money, contract a debt. வாங்கினகடனைக்கொடாதவல்லாளகண்டன். . . . One who is too unyielding to pay off his debts. செய்கடன், s. A duty. 35)

kiñcitam (p. 108) --கிஞ்சித்து, s. An atom, a particle; a small quality, கொஞ்சம். 2. Any thing narrow, limited and mean, smallness, சிறுமை. Wils. p. 221. KANCHIT. கிஞ்சித்தாகப்பேச, s. To speak to one's discredit, commonly as to moral character--whether true or untrue. கிஞ்சித்துவம், s. The நெய்தல் plant. மரங்குழைமண்டிப்போயிற்று. The tree abounds with thick foliage. குழைக்காடு, s. [prov.] The country-as distinguished from the city; a jungle, compared with more cultivated parts --as பட்டிக்காடு. குழைக்காட்டான், s. A rustic; a clown. குழைநாற்றம்--குழைவீச்சம், s. An unpleasant, leafy or grassy smell. குழைமறைவு, v. noun. Foliage, shrubbery, trees, &c., intercepting vision. 2. Sculking, &c., from creditors. குழைபிடிக்க, inf. [prov.] To obstruct an affair-from the practice of the Kandians, holding a bough before a person, as a sign of protestation, or of forbidding him to proceed. குழையடிக்க, inf. To recite incantations while shaking and drawing a handful of Margosa twigs over a sick or possessed person or animal, or one bitten by a snake. Mesmeric effects, similar to those occasioned by drawing the fingers in a particular way over the face of a patient, are sometimes produced by the above process, and ignorant people attribute them to the power of the incantations. 2.
