A globular or round part of a pillar, a cylindrical body, திரட்சி. Wils. p. 29. GUD'A. எண்ணெய்க்குடமும்வெறுங்குடமும்முட்டினாலெ தற்குச்சேதம். If a pot of oil come in collision with an empty pot, which, by breaking, is the greater loss; i.e. in collision, who is the sufferer, the man of character or the worthless person? ஒருகுடம்பாலுக்கொருதுளிஉறைமோர். One drop of butter-milk for coagulating a whole pot of milk; i. e. a good character, obligations of kindness, &c., are forfeited by a single bad action. புறக்குடத்துத் தண்ணீர்போல. Like water on the outside of a pot; i. e. forgotten as soon as learnt; advised or taught to no purpose. பொன்னின்குடத்துக்குப்பொட்டிடவேண்டுமோ.... Does it require that a golden pot be decorated; i. e. things of substantial worth need no embellishment. மாமியார்உடைத்தால்மண்குடம் மருமகளுடைத்தாற் பொன்குடம். If broken by the mother-inlaw, it is a mere earthen pot; but if by the daughter-in-law, it is a golden vessel; i. e. slight faults in inferiors are greatly magnified. குடங்கை, s. The palm of the hand. வெறுங்குடம், s. An empty pot. 2. (fig.) One who knows nothing. குறைகுடம், s. A water-pot not quite full. நிறைகுடம், s. A full water-pot; very good parts; a capable head. குடமூக்கு, s. The town of Combaconum, See கும்பகோணம். குடமூத, inf. To make a sound by blowing into pots, with dancing or jumping--as low-caste women at marriages and in some places at a temple, குடத் தினுள்ளூதியொலிபிறப்பிக்க. குடம்விட்டுக்கட்ட, inf. [prop.] To decorate the marriage pole with stiffened cloth, so as to resemble pots placed one on another. குடமுழா, s. A kind of drum made of a pot, முழவு. குடமல்லிகை, s. A kind of jasmine, ஓர் மல்லிகை, Jasminum sambac, L. Arabian jasmine. See மல்லிகை. குடமுருட்டி, s. A branch of the Kavery, ஓர் ஆறு. குடச்சிப்பி, s. A round shell or conch. குடவுழுந்தர், s. The name of a celebrated poet who, in his youth, was as long in getting a lesson as it required to fill a pot with lentils, உழுந்து, one at a time, ஓர்புலவன், குடவெழுத்தாணி, s. An iron-style with knobs or balls at the top, one above another, tapering to a point. குடம்வைத்தல், v. noun. nāṭu (p. 273) s. [Gen. நாட்டின்.] Country, kingdom, state, realm, இராச்சியம். 2. Rural or agricultural country, as distinguished from city, மருதநிலம். 3. Populated country or district, as distinguished from forest tracts, தேசம். (c.) 4. (சது.) Place, room, space, area, பரப்பு. 5. Locality, situation, இடம். 6. Earth, land, as distinguished from sea, பூமி. 7. The world, உலகம். 8. Side, region, quarter, பக்கம். --Note. The five principal countries of SouthernIndia, are: 1. தொண்டவளநாடு, Tonda; 2. சோழவளநாடு. Chola; 3. பாண்டிவளநாடு; Pandia; 4. கொங்குவளநாடு. Kongu; 5. மலைநாடு, Malyalam. Of districts are தொட்டியநாடு, Dottiya; நாஞ்சிநாடு, in Malyalam, and மறவ வாடு, the Marava province. நாடெங்கும்வாழக்கேடொன்றுமில்லை. When a country prospers, there is no insurrection. (Avv.) திருநாடு, s. A name of Vaikuntha the paradise of Vishnu. நாடுசார்நிலம், s. Ground adapted to the growth of rice. நாடுபடிதல், v. noun. Obeying, submitting as a country to its rulers, நாட் டார்வசப்படுதல். நாடுபடுதிரவியம், s. Country productions. See திரவியம். நாடோடி, appel. n. A vagrant, a vagabond, a stroller, நிலையற்றவன்; also நாடோடி யாய்த்திரிகிறவன். 2. [in comb.] Common to the country. நாடோடியாய்வழங்குகிறது. It is common. நாடோடிச்சொல்--நாடோடிப்பேச்சு, s. Chief persons among the Vellala caste. நாட்டாள், s. [com. காட்டாள்.] A laborer, வேலைசெய்வோன். நாட்டாளுக்கொருநீட்டாளோ. Must a day laborer have a servent? நாட்டுக்கணக்கன், s. A village accountant. நாட்டுக்குற்றம், s. Things injurious to a country, pests, scourges, ஊருக்குள்ள தீங்கு.--One class is seven-fold: 1. தொட்டி யர், strolling jugglers, wizards, witches; 2. திருடர், thieves, robbers; 3. யானை, wild elephants; 4. பன்றி, wild hogs; 5. விட் டில், insects; 6. கிள்ளை, parrots; 7. பெரு மழை, excessive rain.--Another class is eight, fold: 1. விட்டில், locusts and insects; 2. தன்னரசு, anarchy; 3. வேற்ற ரசு, invasion by a foreign power; 4. யானை, elephants; 5. மிகுமழை, excessive rain; 6. மிகுகாற்று, high winds, tempests. 7. கிள்ளை, parrots; 8. நட்டம், dissipation or dancing. (சது.) நாட்டுச்சந்தம்--நாட்டுப்பாங்கு, s. Slovenly or rustic habits of dress, behavior or talk. நாட்டுச்சார்பு, s. Agricultural tracts, மருதநிலம். நாட்டுச்சிறப்பு, s. A country pony not from Pegu. நாட்டுவர்த்தமானம், s. The news of the Mofussil. நாட்டுவளப்பம்--நாட்டுவளம், s. Fertility of country, நாட்டின்சீர். 2. Good order of a country, as to its inhabitants, the animals, &c. நாட்டுவெள்ளரி, s. The wild Cucumber, of native or spontaneous growth. 66)

nāṇm (p. 273) s. Delicacy, modesty, shyness, as one of the four feminine qualities. See நற்குணம் under குணம். 2. Bashfulness of some relations toward each other as of the mother-in-law toward her sonin-law, the father-in-law towards his daughter-in-law, &c., சிறுநாணம். 3. Slight embarrassment, in the presence of a stranger or a superior; delicate regard, esteem or respect, அச்சம். 4. Yielding, as a disease to its antidote; shying--as some beasts, or shrinking--as some plants from the touch, கூச்சம். (c.) நாணங்கெட்டவன், appel. n. A man devoid of shame. நாணக்கேடு, v. noun. Though a daughter-in-law be of gold, she needs a mother-in-law even of earth. பொன்கத்தியென்றுகழுத்தறுத்துக்கொள்ளலாமா..... Would any one cut his throat because the knife was of gold? பொன்னுக்குப்பொடியாயிருக்கிறது. It is extremely dear; (lit.) a particle for a goldcoin. இதிலேபொன்விளையும். Gold is produced in this, i. e. it is a rich soil. பொற்கட்டி, s. A lump of gold in the mass. பொற்கணக்கு, s. māmaṉ (p. 350) s. [voc. மாமா.] A mother's brother. maternal uncle, தாயுடன்பிறந்தோன்; [contract. of Sa. Mamaka. W. p. 657.] 2. The paternal aunt's husband, அத்தைகொ ழுநன். 3. The husband's or wife's father; also his own brothers. மாமனார், s. [hon.] Father-in-law, as மாமன், 3. மாமன்முறையோன், s. The husband's or wife's father's brother. மாமி, s. [pl. மாமிமார்.] The paternal aunt, அத்தை. 2. The maternal uncle's wife, அம்மான்மனைவி. 3. The husband's or wife's mother; also applied to her sisters. மாமிக்கேற்றமருமகளில்லை.
