Disgraceful or improper language, பழிச்சொல், of which four kinds are enumerated, viz.: 1. கோள் --குறளை, an invidious or injurious report, tale bearing, aspersion, slander, backbiting. 2. பொய்மொழி, lying, falsehood. 3. கடுஞ்சொல், harsh expressions, irritating language, scolding. 4. பயனில்சொல், nonsense, idle talk, vain expressions. 2. A rhyme when the last two feet of a line are of opposite meanings, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையிணைமோனை, s. A consonance of the first letters in the last two feet of each line in a verse. (p.) கடையீடு, s. Land of the poorest quality, கடைத்தரமானநிலம். கடையுணி, s. [prov.] A mean fellow who eats what he can beg or pick up-- a worthless being, இழிந்தோன். கடையுண்ண, inf. The twelfth asterism in which Saturn is considered malignant in his influence, உத்திரம். See சனி. கடைவழி, s. Final salvation, the last path. கடைவழிக்குதவும். It will avail for the salvation of the soul. காதற்றஊசியும்வாராதுகாணுங்கடைவழிக்கே. Be assured that even an eyeless needle will not accompany you in that sad hour. கடைவளர, inf. To be enlarged-said of the genitals of a cow, &c., before yeaning, ஈனுங்காலத்திற்குறிவிரிய. கடைவள்ளல், s. The last of the third class of liberal men--he who bestows charity from motives of ostentation, கேட்டபின்கொடுப்போன். கடைவாய், s. The corner or extremities of the mouth, வாயின்கடை. கடைவாய்நக்கி, s. A great miser, உலுத்தன், lit. he who licks the corners of his mouth. கடைவாய்ப்பல், s. The double teeth, the grinders, the back teeth. கடைவாய்வழிய, inf. To drivel at the corners of the mouth--as old people or persons asleep, வாய்நீரொழுக. கடைவிரிக்க, inf. To spread out goods for sale in a shop or market, கடைதிறக்க. கடைவீதி, s. The arts and sciences, being sixty four, viz.: 1. அக்கரவிலக்கணம், the knowledge of spelling and reading, orthography, the science of reading. 2. இலி கிதம், caligraphy, penmanship. 3. கணி தம், the art of computation, arithmetic, the science of numbers. 4. வேதம், the Hindu Veda or law. 5. புராணம், a class of sacred books comprising the whole body of Hindu theology. 6. வியாகரணம், grammar. 7. நீதிசாத்திரம், jurisprudence. 8. சோதிடசாத்திரம், astronomy, including astroloy. 9. தருமசாத்திரம், ethics, moral philosophy, code of laws. 1. யோகசாத் திரம், the knowledge of abstract or silent devotion, rules for religious and abstract meditations. 11. மந்திரசாத்திரம், A division of the Vedas in the first practical part; it includes prayers and hymns addressed to particular deities and used at particular sacrifices, and it also comprehends incantations in religion. magic, medicine, and every other art or practice in which enchantments are used. 12. சகுணசாத்திரம், the science of prognosticating by omens and augury. 13. சிற்ப சாத்திரம், architecture and mechanics, symmetry, shapes in general including sculpture, painting features, lines, hair, &c., of the human system, and their various effects on life. 14.வைத்தியசாத்திரம், science of healing, physic, pharmacy and surgery which may include restoration to life of the dead, the reunion of severed limbs. &c. 15. உருவசாத்திரம், physiognomy, the art of discovering the temper and foreknowing the fortune by the features of the face, metoposcopy, chiromancy, the art of foretelling the events of life by inspecting the hand, சாமுத்திரிகம். 16. இதிகாசம், history, traditional accounts of former events, heroic history--as found in the Bharata and Ramayana. 17. காவியம், epic poetry --as சிந்தாமணி, நைடதம், &c. 18. அலங்காரம், science of rhetoric. 19. மதுரபாடணம், eloquence. 2. நாடகம், dramatic science. 21. நிருத்தம், the art of dancing. 22. சத்தப் பிரமம், directions for the modulation of sounds. 23. வீணை, the art of playing on the lute or stringed instruments. 24. வேணு. the art of playing on the flute or pipe. 25. மிருதங்கம், the art of beating the tambourine. 26. தாளம், the art of beating the cymbals. 27. அத்திரபரிட்சை, archery, the art of throwing darts. 28. கனகபரிட்சை, the art of an assayer in gold, &c. 29. இரதபரிட்சை, the art of driving chariots, charioteering. 3. கசபரிட்சை, the knowledge of the marks of an elephant. 31. அசுவபரிட்சை, the knowledge of the marks of a horse. 32. இரத் தினபரிட்சை, the art of examining and choosing gems, knowledge of precious stones. 33. பூமிபரிட்சை, the knowledge of the different kinds of soil, rules for determining by the surface, the nature and depth of soils, underneath which water is to be found, &c. 34. சங்கிராமவி லக்கணம், military art, tactics. 35. மல்ல யுத்தம், wrestling, pugilism, gymnastics, athletic art, boxing. 36. ஆகருடணம், the art of calling or summoning by enchantment. 37. உச்சாடணம், exorcism, dislodging devils or exciting them to injure others. 38. வித்துவேடணம், exciting hatred between parties by magical spells-one of the eight performances of enchantment. 39. மதனசாத்திரம், erotics, modus coeundi. 4. மோகனம், libidinous fascinations occasioned by enchantment. 41. வசீகரணம், the art of subduction by magic, the art of bringing one over to another's side or interest by enchant ment. 42. இரசவாதம், alchymy and chemistry. 43. காந்தருவவாதம் the knowledge of the condition of the celestial choristers. 44. பைபீலவாதம், the language of brute creatures from emmets upwards. 45. கவுத்துகவாதம், the art of restoring pleasure to a sorrowful mind. 46. தாதுவாதம், the knowledge of the pulse. 47. காரூடம். charms, incantations against poison. 48. நட்டம், information respecting any thing lost obtained by astronomical calculations. 49. முட்டி, information respecting any thing concealed in the palms of the hand (lit. in the fist.) 5. ஆகாயப்பிரவேசம், the art of entering into the air and becoming invisible. 51. ஆகாயமனம், the art of walking in the air. 52. பரகாயப்பிரவேசம், the power of leaving one's own body and entering another lifeless body or substance at pleasure. 53. அதிரிசயம், the power of making one's self invisible. 54. இந்திரசாலம், the art of conjuring, juggling, &c. 55. மகேந்திர சாலம், the art of performing wonders in heaven and earth. 56. அக்கினித்தம்பம், restraining the action of fire. 57. சலத் தம்பம், The art of counteracting the yielding quality of water so as to be able to walk on its surface. 58. வாயுத்தம்பம், the art of restraining the power of the wind. 59. திட்டித்தம்பம், the art of fascinating the eyes. 6. வாக்குத்தம்பம், the art of fascinating the mouth. 61. சுக்கிலத் தம்பம், the art of restraining the semen virile. 62. கனனத்தம்பம், the art of preventing the discovery of things concealed. 63. கட்கத்தம்பம், the art by which the power of sword or any other weapon is nullified. 64. அவத்தைப்பிர யோகம், the power of stationing the soul at pleasure, in any of the five stages in full energy by virtue of abstract devotion for converse with the deity. kīẕ (p. 113) s. Place or space, under, below, beneath, downward, low or nether; the bottom, கீழிடம். 2. The east, கிழக்கு. 3. A pit, a hole, பள்ளம். 4. The nether regions, the worlds below, கீழுலகம். 5. Forgetfulness, மறதி. 6. Bridle, reins, bit, கடிவாளம். 7. A low caste, கீழ்மக்கள். (p.) கீணர், s. [கீழ்நர்.] Low, mean people, the base, the vulgar, எளியோர். கீழது, s. That which is under or below; bottom. கீழதுமேலதாக்கிப்போட, inf. To overturn, upset, capsize; to overthrow, to defeat. கீழறுக்க, inf. To burrow, to excavate, to make a subterranean passage, to undermine, பூமியிற் சுரங்கஞ்செய்ய. 2. (fig.) To undermine, to injure by any underhand, clandestine means, சதிசெய்ய. கீழறை, s. An under-ground room, a cellar, நிலவறை. 2. A cavern, a cell, a hole or passage under ground, வளை. கீழாக, inf. To become depressed, to sink--as a stalk, a heap of muck, &c.; to deteriorate, to waste--as the body by use or disease; or as property, &c., தாழ் வடைய. கீழாக--கீழாய s. Under, below, beneath. கீழாயிருக்க, inf. To be below, to be mean, to be inferior. கீழாலவத்தை, s. 'Descending states of the soul.' State and degree of consciousness, commencing with objective sensations and descending to subjective feeling and contemplation, the mind receding farther and farther from objective impressions and associations. Hindu physiologists fancy that the mind descends from its seat in the forehead to its other seats, the neck, breast, umbilicus and terminus rectum. (தத்துவக். சிவ. சி.) கீழிருக்க, inf. To lie under, to be under one's dominion or control. கீழாறு, s. A river under ground, பூமி யினுள்ளோடுமாறு. 2. A river in the Congu country, கொங்குதேசத்தாறு. கீழாறுகொண்டுபோயிற்று. The under ground river has carried it away--said of things lost without knowing how. கீழுக்குப்போக, inf. To be diminishes, to be reduced. அவன்புத்தியுங்கல்வியும்வரவரக்கீழுக்குப்போகி றது. His understanding and knowledge are more and more diminishing. கீழோங்கி, s. [prov.] An inferior class or fishermen--as distinguished from மே லோங்கி, a higher rank. கீழ்நோக்க, inf. To look downward, to tend downward, கீழ்ப்பார்க்க. 2. To be sensual, grovelling, to tend toward secularities, இழிவானதைவிரும்ப. 3. To be on the decline--as to wealth, &c.; to go to ruin, to come to naught, தாழ்வடைய. கீழ்நோக்கித்திட்ட--கீழ்நோக்கியேச inf. To use obscene language, to assail with very indecent speech. கீழ்நோக்கு--கீழ்நோக்கம் v. noun. Looking downward, downward tendency, கீழ்ப்பார்வை. 2. Low or grovelling pursuits, a base inclination; underhand, clandestine purpose. கீழ்மேலாக, adv. Upside down. கீழ்ப்பட, inf. To be subdued, to yield, to be submissive, to become inferior, கீழ்ப்படிய. 2. To be subject, to be subordinate, to submit to, அடங்க. 3. To be degraded, mean, base, இழிவுபட. கீழ்ப்படிய--கீழ்ப்பணிய inf. To submit, to yield, to obey. கீழ்ப்படியாத்தனம்--கீழ்ப்படியாமை, s. Disobedience, insubordination. கீழ்ப்படிவு, v. noun. Submission, obedience, subordination, subjection, கீழ்ப்ப ணிவு. 2. Docility, tractableness, அமைவு. கீழ்ப்படுத்த--கீழ்ப்படியப்பண்ண, inf. To subdue, to subject, to subordinate, to subjugate, to quell, அடக்க. 2. To lower, to bring down, to reduce, தாழ்வுபடு த்த. 3. To degrade, ஈனப்படுத்த. கீழ்நோக்கினநட்சத்திரம், s. [in astro.] A lunar mansion looking downward-opposed to மேனோக்கினநட்சத்திரம். They are twelve in number. (உள்ளமு.) கீழ்நோக்கினராசி, s. [in astrol.] A zodiacal sign which looks downward.-Note. These signs, as well as the கீழ்நோக் கினநட்சத்திரம், are favorable for planting esculent roots and digging wells. கீழ்மேற்றென்வடல், s. The east, west, north and south. 42)

kīẕ (p. 113) adj. Inferior, base, mean, low, vulgar, degraded, disgraceful, dishonorable, கீழ்மையான. 2. Downward, lower; infernal, கீழான. 3. Eastern, eastward, easterly, கிழக்கு. கீழுதடு, s. An inferior a low person. கீழ்த்தொடை, s. The lower part of the thigh. கீழ்போகம், s. [prov.] Cultivation of edible roots. கீழ்ப்பயிர், s. Grain or herbage in the shade or overtopped by another plant; under-plants, அடிப்பயிர். கீழ்ப்பாடு, s. The lower side, கீழ்ப்பக் கம். 2. Subordination, inferiority, அடக் கம். (Little used.) கீழ்ப்பாறை, s. A subterranean cell or cavern, கீழறை. (Rott.) 2. An understratum of rock, கீழிருக்கும்பாறை. கீழ்ப்புறம், s. The lower side, the underside, கீழ்ப்பக்கம். 2. The leeward or the leaning side of a vessel, தாழ்ந்தபக்கம். கீழ்மகன், s. A person of low caste, a mean person, இழிந்தோன். 2. The planet saturn, சனி. கீழ்மக்கள், s. Inferiors, low-caste people, the base, the vulgar, the ignorant, இழிந்தோர். கீழ்மாரி--கீழ்வாரி, s. Rain or thunder in the distance, towards the horizon. கீழ்மாரிகொள்ளுகிறது. It thunders at a distance. கீழ்மாரிகொண்டுமுழங்க, inf. To thunder near the horizon. கீழ்வயிறு, s. The lower part of the belly, abdomen, அடிவயிறு. கீழ்க்கதுவாயளபெடை, s. [in prosody.] One of the eight அளபெடைத்தொடை, in which the first letter of every foot in a line, except the penultimate, is prolonged in sound. கீழ்க்கதுவாயியைபு, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme in which the last letter of every foot of a line, except the second, is the same ஒரியைபுத்தொடை. கீழ்க்கதுவாயெதுகை, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை, in which the second letter, of every foot of a line, but the penultimate, is the same, ஓரெதுகைத்தொ டை. கீழ்க்கதுவாய், s. [in prosody.] Rhyming or தொடை in every foot but the penultimate; and in இயைபுத்தொடை, in every foot but the second, கதுவாய்த்தொ டையினொன்று. கீழ்க்கதுவாய்முரண், s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை, in which the first word in every foot of a line, except the penultimate, has different meanings, முரண் டொடை. கீழ்க்கதுவாய்மோனை, s. [in prosody.] A rhyme or தொடை in which the first letter of every foot of a line, but the penultimate, is the same, ஓர்மோனைத்தொடை. கீழ்மை, v. noun. Lowness, meanness, inferiority, baseness, இழிவு. 2. Submissiveness, humbleness, தாழ்மை. கீழண்டை, s. [vul.] East. கீழைத்தெரு, s. The eastern street. கீழைப்புறம், s. The eastern side, part. கீழ்ச்சீமை, s. the eastern country. கீழ்வாடை, s. caṇṭāḷam (p. 158) s. Lowness, baseness, meanness, barbarism, இழிவு. 2. A base creature. a vile wretch, நீசன்; [ex Sa. chan'd'hala.] 3. (R.) A demon, பேய். (p.) மிருகசண்டாளங்கருத்தபம். An ass is the basest of animals. (p.) சண்டாளத்துரோகி--சண்டாளப்பாவி, s. A barbarous or vile wretch. (c.) சண்டாளப்பிராயச்சித்தம், s. cāti (p. 176) s. Sex, tribe, caste--as Hindu castes, குலம். 2. Lineage, race, family, மரபு. 3. Kind, class, sort, species, இனம். 4. Nutmeg, the tree, சாதிக்காய்மரம். 5. The right kind or best of the class, &c., சாதியி லுயர்ந்தது. (c.) 6. One of the ten modes of beating time, தாளப்பிரமாணம்பத்தினொன்று. W. p. 347. JATI. 7. (சது.) A tree in general, மரப்பொது.--Note. Hindu caste in the time of Menu. according to the சூடாமணிநிகண்டு was as follows 1. பிராமணர், Brahmans, the sacerdotal caste--reputed to have sprung from the face of the god Brahma; 2. சத்திரியர் or க்ஷத்திரியர், the royal or military caste--said to have sprung from his shoulders; 3. வைசியர், Vaisya caste as sprung from his thighs. This class is threefold; (a) கோவைசியர், herdsmen. (b) தனவைசியர், the mercantile caste including செட்டிகள். (c.) பூவைசியர், the agriculturalists embracing வேளாளர். 4. சூத்தி ரர், Sudra caste, embracing artificers and other servile tribes, supposed to have sprung from Brahma's feet. Of these eighteen are named, but the number is much greater. See குடிமை.--Note. 2. All the Tamil authorities, except the Nighandu, make the கோவைசியர் and பூவைசியர் including the வேளாளர் as the fourth or சூத் திரர் caste, and all inferior to these as சங்கர சாதி or mixed caste.--Note. 3. Brahmans call the கோவைசியர் and the பூவைசியர், சற்சூத்தி ரர் or superior Sudras, and the சூத்திரர் they call தற்சூத்திரர் or real Sudras. எந்தச்சாதியாடுவேணும். What kind of sheep do you want? நான்குபதினெட்டுச்சாதி. A mixture of the castes, high and low, (lit.) the four and eighteen castes intermixed, in contempt. சாதிக்குத்தக்கபுத்தி. The different degrees of intellect that characterize the respective castes; commonly spoken of inferiors. சாதியந்தப்புத்திகுலமந்த ஆசாரம். Every caste, has its degree of intellect, and every tribe its peculiar habits, usages, &c.-spoken when one of low caste does wrong. சாதிகுலம், s. [prov.] High caste. 2. Caste. சாதிகெட்டவன், s. One of low caste. 2. One degraded from caste. சாதிக்கட்டு, s. Customs of caste. See கட்டு. சாதிக்கலப்பு, v. noun. A mixed caste. 2. See கல. v. a. சாதிக்கலாபம், s. Caste disturbance, commonly, the quarrel between இடங்கை and வலங்கை; the right and left hand castes. சாதிக்காரன், s. A person of good caste, of unmixed descent. 2. A genuine European, or one of pure European descent. அன்னியசாதி, s. Foreigners, low castes, tribes, &c. 2. (அள.) Foreign species, not of its own species, பிறவினம். கீழ்சாதி, s. Low caste. மேல்சாதி, s. High caste. ஈனசாதி, s. Degraded caste. See ஈ னம். தீண்டாச்சாதி, s. A degraded low caste person, not to be touched. தின்னாச்சாதி, s. Castes in whose houses, one of a better caste will not eat. பலபட்டடைச்சாதி, s. Mixed caste, mixed multitude of low castes. மிருகசாதி, s. The brute creation. 2. Stupid tribes, அறிவிலார். மடையசாதி--மடைச்சாதி, s. Ignorant people. 2. Low and ignorant tribes. சாதிகம்--சாதீகம், s. Customs peculiar to a tribe or caste. (p.) சாதிக்குணம், s. Regard for one's own caste, sympathy among those of the same caste; [ex மானம்.] சாதிமுறை--சாதிமுறைமை, s. The laws, usages, rules, &c., of a caste. சாதிமான், s. One of a superior caste. சாதியாசாரம், s. Habits, customs, manners, professions, &c., of the caste. சாதியீனன், s. One of low caste, an out-caste. சாதியையிழுக்க, inf. To expatiate or dwell upon the low parentage of another. சாதியைவிட, inf. To break caste. சாதிவருணாச்சிரமம், s. [com. சாதிவ ருணாச்சிரம்.] The caste, class, religious order, &c.,--Note. This word is sometimes used as synonymous with சாதியா சாரம். சாதிநீலம், s. A genuine sapphire.-Note. All the gems, metals, &c., are in like manner distinguished. சாதிக்குதிரை, s. A horse of fine breed. சாதிக்காய், s. Nutmeg, (lit.) the nut of the சாதி tree. சாதிக்காய்த்தயிலம், s. Oil of nutmeg. சாதிச்சரக்கு, s. Good commodities. See சரக்கு. சாதிப்பூ, s.
