ey (p. 73) கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To grow weary by exertion, fail in strength--as in battle; to flag through want of food, &c., இளைக்க. 2. To be reduced in circumstances, grow poor, தரித்திரம டைய. 3. v. a. To know, understand, comprehend, அறிய. (p.) அனிச்சம்படினும்பொறாமையையெய்த்தும். Though he (Siva) knew that the feet of his consort could not endure the failing of the (delicate) anicah flower-- (பிரபுலிங்க.) எய்ப்பு, v. noun. Weariness, languor, &c., இளைப்பு. எய்ப்பில்வைப்பு, s. That which is laid up for a time of adversity, வறுமையி லுதவதற்குவைக்குந்திரவியம். 82)

eccil (p. 73) s. Remains, or refuse of food, crumbs, orts (deemed impure), சேஷம். 2. Any thing defiled by contact with the mouth, saliva, &c., மிச்சில்; [ex எஞ்சு.] எச்சிற்கையாற்காக்கையுமோட்டான். He will not even scare away a crow with his hand while eating, lest any grain of rice fall thereby. எச்சிலாக்க--எச்சிற்படுத்த, inf. To defile food or any thing, by bringing it into contact with the mouth; to defile food by the hand, or spoon in feeding, உச்சிட்டப்படுத்த. 2. To deflour a woman, deprive a damsel of her virginity, either by force or with consent, கன்னிமைகெடுக்க. எச்சிலார், s. Low-caste people, இழிஞர். (p.) எச்சிலிலை--எச்சிற்கல்லை, s. The leaf on which one has eaten. எச்சிலுமிய--எச்சிலுமிழ--எச்சில் துப்ப, inf. To spit. (c.) எச்சில்வாய், s. Mouth unwashed after eating, கழுவாதவாய். எச்சிற்கலக்க, inf. To eat the food left by the bridegroom--as a Hindu bride does on the occasion of her marriage. 2. To eat the food left by others--as friends. எச்சிற்கலப்பு, s. The above ceremony. எச்சிற்காறியுமிழ், inf. To force up the phlegm and spit it out. எச்சிற்கிதம்பாட, inf. To assent to what is wrong from an unworthy motive. எச்சிற்குழி, s. A cavity in a court-yard, used as a spittoon, எச்சில் போடுங்குழி. எச்சிற்பட, inf. To become defiled--as food, &c., by saliva, or contact with the mouth. எச்சிற்பருக்கை, s. Grains of rice fallen while eating, சிந்திக்கிடக்குஞ்சோறு. எச்சிற்பேய், s. A diminutive demon exceedingly voracious, ஓர்பிசாசம். 2. A person very fond of dainties, பெ ருந்தீனிக்காரன். எச்சிற்றழும்பு--எச்சிற்றேமல், s. A kind of ring-worm supposed to be induced by contact with the saliva of others, தழுதணை. எச்சின்மாற்ற, inf. To purify a place after eating by smearing it anew with cowdung. கண்ணெச்சில், s. Evil imagined to be caused by other people's eyes. கண்ணெச்சிற்கழிக்க, inf. To perform a ceremony for the removal of the imagined inauspicious effect of evil eyes. (நைட.) 25)

eṉ (p. 75) . Why, wherefore, pronominal interrogative particle, from எ, what, வினாவி னைக்குறிப்பு. 2. A particle or interjection of doubt, ஐயக்கிளவி. 3. Particle of contempt, இகழ்ச்சிக்குறிப்பு. It is the crude form of a symbolic verb of double declension expressing what kind, what manner of person, thing, &c. பிறவினியுரைப்பதென்னே. What more then is there to be said? இவன்றந்தையென்னோற்றான்கொல்லென்னுஞ்சொல். What meritorious deed did the father perform to get such a son? அவையென். What are they? 39)

To strike, அடிக்க. 3. To cuff, to strike with the fist, புடைக்க. 4. To cut, cut asunder, cut down, வெட்ட. 5. To pierce, stab, குத்த. 6. To kill, கொல்ல. முரசமெற்றினர். They beat the large drum. கூனனையவள்மார்பிலேயெற்றினவளவில். As soon as she had struck the hump-backed man on the breast-துந்துமியெலும்பைப்பறக்கவெற்றியும். Kicking up the bones of Tuntumi (into the air)-எற்றுதிரை, s. Beating billows. எற்றுபுனல், s. A billowy or rippling body of water. எற்றுநூல், s. [prov.] A kind of oblong pail with a long handle, supported by three posts for throwing up water in irrigation. எற்றற்பட்டை, s. [prov.] Basket for irrigation by four or six persons. எற்று, v. noun. Casting, jerking, எறிகை. 2. Warding off, striking off, தட் டுகை. ஓரெற்றிலேயெற்றிப்போட்டான். He cast it away at once. 35)

eẕutu (p. 75) கிறேன், எழுதினேன், வேன், எழுத, v. a. To write, paint, draw, mark, stain, trace (letters, &c.), inscribe, வரைய. 2. To foreordain, to predestine. This verb is soused from the notion that each one's fate is written by Brahma in the skull, தலையிலெழுத. 3. To write composition, draw up in writing, வசனாதிகளெழுத. 4. To engrave, சித்திரமெழுத. எழுதக்கைதிரும்பவில்லை. The hand is not yet trained. எட்கிடைநெற்கிடைவிட்டெழுத. To write leaving the space of a sesamum seed between the letters, and of a grain of rice between the lines--the order to be observed in writing. எழுதாக்கிளவி--எழுதாமறை, s. The vedas, lit. unwritten works--an appellation adopted with reference to their meaning being handed down by oral explanation and not written, or to the accent, pronunciation, &c., which cannot be written, வேதம். எழுதிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To grant by writing, write and deliver as a voucher. 2. To betroth a girl by written contract. 3. To write for another, draw up a document. 4. To write lessons for a learner. 5. To recount,register, write and keep for a memorandum, &c., to write and leave behind for the use of others. எழுதினஉடன்படிக்கை--எழுதின வொப்பாசாரம், s. Written contract. எழுதுகோல், s. A writing reed, எழுதுங்கோல். 2. A painter's brush or pencil, தூரியக்கோல். எழுதுபடம், s. A picture, கிழி. மேற்பாடம்பார்த்தெழுதுதல், v. noun. Copying from a written book. பெயர்த்தெழுத, inf. To copy, to transcribe. குறிப்பெழுத, inf. To note down the time, &c. of the birth of a child. திருத்தமாயெழுத, inf. To write correctly. சரமகவியெழுத, inf. [prov.] To write a stanza, commemorative of the death of an ancestor, or other near relative, mentioning the day, hour, &c. of the moon, as a memorandum for ascertaining the time to perform the annual funeral rites. மறுமொழியெழுத--பதிலெழுத, inf.
