cāttu (p. 176) கிறேன், சாத்தினேன், வேன், சாத்த, v. a. To daub, smear, anoint--as sandal, or other unguents, சந்தனமுதலியஅப்ப. 2. To put a cloth, an ornament, or flowers on an idol, a holy personage, &c., ஆடைமுதலிய அ ணிய. 3. To slap, strike, tap, beat, அடிக்க. 4. To shut, put to, to close--as a door, &c., கதவுமுதலியமூட. 5. (impr. for சார்த்து.) To place against, ஒன்றின்மேற்சார்த்த. (c.) சாத்தாதவர், s. (pl.) Those who do not wear the sacred thread, or the tuft of hair. A mixed class of Vaishnuvas--opposed, to சாத்தினவர். They have their principal occupation, as flower-gatherers, minstrels or mendicants. (R.) Compare சாத்தானியன். சாத்திக்கழிக்க, inf. To adorn the idol with flower or garlands, and afterwards remove them. சாத்திக்கொள்ள, inf. [prov.] To dress one's self with garlands, costly attire, &c., in contempt. சாத்துப்படி--சாத்துகாப்பு, s. Flowers, jewels and vestments as the attire of an idol. 2. [in burlesque.] A good drubbing, நல்லடி. சாத்துக்கவி, s. A poem prefixed or affixed to a work, by a different hand. சாத்துநாற்று--சாத்துநாறு, s. Young plants planted in the place of those which have died. (R.) திருக்கடைக்காப்புச்சாத்த, inf. To shut the door of the temple, கோயிற்கதவுமூட. 2. To finish a poem addressed to a deity by making the last verse. See under திரு. வில்வஞ்சாத்த, inf. To cast the fragrant leaves of the வில்வம் tree at the feet of the idol. See வில்வம். 41) *

To give one a good drubbing. 3. To squeeze or oppress one, take his money, &c. சாறுவாங்க--சாறெடுக்க, inf. To extract the virtue of vegetables. சாறுகாய்ச்ச--சாறுவைக்க, inf. To make broth. சாறுவடிய--சாறோட, inf. To flow-as water from trees. 2. (fig.) To slaver, drivel. சாறொழுகுதல், v. noun. The oozing and dropping of juice from trees, &c. சாற்றமுது, s. Pepper-broth. (R.) சாற்றுவாரி, s. Drivelling mouth, நீரொ ழுகும்வாய். சாற்றுவாயன், s. A driveller. சாற்றுவாயூற்ற, inf. To drivel--commonly as a babe. சாறயர, inf. To celebrate a festival. சாறுதாரி, s. cōppu (p. 212) கிறேன், சோப்பினேன், வேன், சோப்ப, v. a. [prov.] To cause to droop, to languish, சோர்வுறச்செய்ய. 2. To beat, flog, give one a good drubbing, அடிக்க. சோப்பி, s. A flapper, as ஈச்சோப்பி. சோப்பு, v. noun. Beating, flogging, drubbing, அடித்தல். 97)

nkrttu (p. 266) கிறேன், நகர்த்தினேன், வேன், நகர்த்த, v. a. (causative of நகர்.] To push with difficulty, to shove along, to propel a little, தள்ள. 2. To pilfer, to steal little by little, கொஞ்சங்கொஞ்சமாய்க்கொண்டுபோக. (c.) நகர்்த்தஇலக்குப்பார்க்கிறான். He watches an opportunity what move he can make. வீட்டைநகர்த்திக்கட்டவேண்டும். We must remove the house a little farther. சுவரையிடித்துநகர்த்திவிட்டான். He tore down and removed the wall. அவனைநன்றாகநகர்ததிப்போட்டார்கள். They gave him a good drubbing. 2)

nimirttu (p. 277) கிறேன், நிமிர்த்தினேன், வேன், நிமிர்த்த, v. a. [improp. நிமுத்து.] To straighten, to unbend, to uncoil, set upright or on its bottom--as a vessel which has been upturned, வளைவெடுக்க. 2. (fig.) To improve one's circumstances, சீர்ப்படுத்த, (c.) உன்னைவளர்த்துநிமிர்த்தினவனானல்லவோ. Am I not he who nourished and brought you up; (lit.) set you up? நிமிர்த்திப்பிடிக்க, inf. To hold a person, or thing, erect. 2. (fig.) To persist in one's own opinion. நிமிர்த்திவிட, inf. To straighten. 2. [in cant.] To give one a good drubbing. நிமிர்த்திவைக்க, inf. To set erect. 61)

noṟukku (p. 284) கிறேன், நொறுக்கினேன், வேன், நொறுக்க, v. a. [sometimes improp. நொருக்கு.] To break, to crack, to crush, to smash to pieces, to make havoc, பொடியாக்க. 2. To bruise, to contuse, நருக்க. (c.) நொறுக்கரிசி, s. [inf. நொறுக்கரிசிபட.] Rice broken through neglect in pounding, நொறுங்கியவரிசி. 2. [com. நறுக்கரிசி.] Rice half boiled, when it is most crumbling, used to denote a certain stage in the boiling rice. நொறுக்கரிசிப்பதம், s. [com. நறுக்கரிசிப் பதம்.] The state of boiling rice when it crumbles. நொறுக்கல்நெல், s. Paddy made too tender by moisture. நொறுக்கு, v. noun. Crushing, contusion, &c., as the verb. 2. (fig.) Beating, thrashing one lustily, அடிக்கை--as நொறு க்குநொறுக்கென்றுநொறுக்கினான், he gave him a good drubbing. நொறுக்குச்சக்கந்தம், s. Mockery, a joke, a jeer, பரிகாசம். (R.)
