The metrical feet are thirty, divided into five classes, viz.: 1. உரிச்சீர், or ஆசிரியவுரிச்சீர், feet peculiar to the அகவல் verse--as (a.) தேமா, foot of two simple syllables, a spondee. (b.) புளிமா, one compound and one simple syllable; an iambus. (c.) கருவி ளம். Two compound syllables, a pyrrhic. (d.) கூவிளம். One simple and one compound syllable, a trochee. The names serve also as models for the kinds of feet respectively. They are names of trees and their fruits. 2. வெண்சீர், or வெண்பாஉரி ச்சீர். Feet peculiar to வெண்பா verse; as (a.) தே-மாங்-காய். A foot of three simple syllables. (b.) புளி-மாங்-காய். One compound and two simples. (c.) கரு-விளங்--காய். Two compounds and one simple; an anap&ae;st. (d.) கூ-விளங்-காய். A simple, a compound and a simple. 3. வஞ்சியுரிச்சீர், or வஞ்சிச்சீர். Feet peculiar to வஞ்சி verse; as (a.) தே-மா ங்-கனி. A foot of two simple syllables and one compound. (b.) புளி-மாங்-கனி. One compound, one simple, and one compound; an amphibrach. (c.) கரு-விளங்கனி. Three compounds, a tribrach. (d.) கூவிளங்-கனி. One simple and two compound syllables. 4. பொதுச்சீர். Feet of four syllables peculiar to வஞ்சி verse; there are sixteen of them; the models for these are formed by adding respectively, தண்-ணி ழல், தண்-பூ, நறும்-பூ, நறு-நிழல் to the terms employed in the உரிச்சீர். 5. ஓரசைச்சீர். A foot of a single syllable; as (a.) நாள். A foot of one simple syllable. (b.) மலர். A foot of a compound syllable.--Note. 1. One use of the last two is to end the வெண்பா verse. --Note. 2. Sometimes feet answering to காசு, instead of நாள், and பிறப்பு instead of மலர், are employed to end the வெண்பா verse, i. e., the addition of குற்றுகரம் or short உ to the foregoing; and rarely the full உ, or முற்றுகரம் is found. சீராயிருக்கிறேன். I am in a good state. சீரழிக்க, inf. To disturb, subvert, pervert. 2. To ruin, demolish. 3. To disparage one's character. (c.) சீராக, inf. (adverbially.) Orderly, decently, properly, soberly, consistently, circumspectly, moderately, temperately, discreetly. சீராகநடக்க, inf. To act consistently, &c. சீராடிக்கொண்டுபோதல், v. noun. [prov.] The going of a married girl to her father's house for redress of grievances from her husband's family, especially from her mother-in-law. (c.) சீரானநடை, s. A moderate pace. 2. Good moral character without excess. சீரிழுக்க, inf. To pervert good circumstances. (R.) சீரிட--சீர்செய்ய--சீர்கொடுக்க, inf. To give house-hold utensils, &c., to a daughter when married. 2.
