ciṟku (p. 189) s. Wing, pinion, feather, plumage. இறகு. 2. The fin of a fish, மீன்சிறகு. 3. The wing of a building, a row of houses, side of street, தெருவின்பக்கம். (c.) 4. Small branching channels for irrigation, நீர்க்கா ற்சிறகு. 5. [prov.] The half of a palmyra leaf, பனைமடலிற்பாதி. 6. The leaf of a door or shutter, கதவுச்சிறகு. Compare சிறை. படைச்சிறகு. The wing of an army. (சிலப்.) மனுஷன்சிறகில்லாப்பறவை. Man is a wingless bird. சிறகில்லாப்பறவைபோல். Like a wingless bird, i. e., forlorn, destitute person. அவருடையசிறகுமுறிந்துபோயிற்று. His wings are broken, i. e., he has lost office or valuable help. சிறகடிக்க, inf. To flap the wing with force as fowls, or as birds commencing flight. சிறகாற்ற, inf. To flutter the wings as some birds after skimming through the air, to rest, as birds. (c.) சிறகுகட்டிப்பறக்க, inf. To go with great swiftness, (lit.) to take wings and fly. சிறகுக்கதவு, s. [prov.] A two leaved door. சிறகுக்குடில், s. [prov.] A small portable hut covered. சிறகுகோத--சிறகுளர, inf. To adjust the feathers with the beak. சிறகுமுளைக்க, inf. To shoot out feathers, to become fledged. 2. (fig.) To become of age, தகுந்தவயசுவர. சிறகுமுளைத்தார்பறவையுங்கற்றார். Those that become fledged (whose wings are grown) learn also to fly, i. e., those raised from a low condition assume airs. வாய்க்காற்சிறகு, s. A branch of a main channel in a garden. (Rare.) 17)

tṉi (p. 231) [impers. used adverbially and as an adjective.] Alone, solitary, sequestered, secluded, distinct, separate, detached, insulated, தனிமையான. 2. Sole, single, only, individual, ஒன்றான. 3. Unique, matchless. unparalled, ஒப்பில்லாத. 4. Unlike, without an equal, one of the pair--the other being wanting, ஒற்றையான. 5. Independent, absolute, entire, சுவாதீனமான. 6. Pure, simple, unadulterated, unalloyed, genuine, கலப் பில்லாத. 7. Deserted, forsaken, forlorn, helpless, ஏதுமற்ற. --Note. க், ச், த், ப், are doubled after தனி. (c.) தனிக்கடவுள், s. Absolute deity, the matchless deity. தனிக்காட்டுராசா, s. A sole sovereign in a jungle. (c.) தனிக்காப்பு, s. An invocation, comprized in a single verse. தனிக்குடி, s. (also ஒன்றிக்குடி.) A solitary family. 2. One family of a caste, living among other castes. 3. Keeping house separately, as distinguished from living under the paternal roof. தனிக்குடை, s. The umbrella of an autocrat; (fig.) absolute sovereignty, தனியாசாட்சி. தனிக்குடைநிழற்ற. To spread the imperial umbrella, to govern. (p.) தனிக்குறில்--தனிக்குற்றெழுத்து, s. A single short consonant. தனிக்கோலான், s. He whose government is incomparable, the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. An independent sovereign. (p.) தனிச்சமையல், v. noun. Cooking for a single person, for one's self only, &c., தனிச்செய்கை, v. noun. Cultivating land alone, not jointly with others. தனிச்சொல், s. (Bab. Gram. p. 8.) A detached foot in வெண்பா and other verse, between two lines, தனிச்சீர். 2. A single or uncombined word. தனித்தனியே, adv. Individually, separately, each one singly, each alone. --Note. The ஏ is often added whether தனி be repeated or not--as தனியே. தனித்தாட்டன், s. [prov.] A large monkey that keeps distinct from, or goes before, the drove. தனித்தியலிடுகுறிப்பெயர், s. A specific name, including many individuals, or some varieties. தனித்தேட்டம், s. Amassing wealth alone, without the burden of a family. தனிநிலை, s. Solitariness, தனி்துநிற் கை. 2. (in gram.] The letter ஃ, ஆய்த வெழுத்்து. தனிப்பட, inf. [adverbially.] To be alone, to be left alone, to be forseken. 2. To be solitary. 3. To be kept alone as witnesses and prisoners, or apart, detached--as persons, or animals. (c.) தனிப்படச்சொல்லுகிறேன். I will tell you in secret. தனிப்பட்டு, s. A single or distinct fold, plait, strand or string, one out of several folds of a necklace. 2. (c.) Silk only, all silk. தனிப்பயணம், s. Travelling alone, as தனிவழி. தனிப்பன்றி, s. A wild boar alone, as more ferocious and dangerous than others. தனிப்பாடு, v. noun. Loneliness, solitude. தனிமை. 2. Bearing the whole labor, responsibility, &c., alone, முழப் பொறுப்பு. (c.) தனிப்பாட்டு, s. A single verse unconnected with a series, விடுபாட்டு. தனிப்பால், s. Pure, unadulterated milk. (c.) தனிப்புரக்க, inf. To reign alone, to be an autocrat, தனியரசாள. (p.) தனிப்புறம், s. A solitary place, or state. (c.) தனிப்பூடு, s. An onion, or other bulbous root not divided. தனிப்பெற, inf. [adverbially.] To be alone, to be placed alone, apart, distinct, insulated. (c.) தனிப்பெறஎடுத்துக்கொண்டான். He took the whole to himself. தனிப்போர், s. A single combat. 2. [in card playing.] One of the players, winning all the cards, கடிதமாடுவோரிலொரு வர்வெல்லுகை. 3. [in trade.] An individual monopolizing all the profits, தன்வசமாக்குகை. தனிமுதல், s. Trading alone, with one's own capital. 2. (p.) The matchless and only God, absolute deity, கட வுள். தனிமொழி, s. A simple uncompounded word. தனியரசாட்சி, s. Universal sovereignty. தனியன்--தனியான், s. A single man or woman, one unmarried, living alone; a wild beast detached from the herd, and thus rendered ferocious, ஒன்றி. 2. A solitary animal tree, fruit, &c., த னித்தது. 3. As தனிப்பாட்டு. தனியிருக்க--தனியேயிருக்க, inf. To be alone, to be alone at home. தனியுவமம், s. Using a word in a figurative sense, as கன்னெஞ்சு, a stony heart. தனியெழுத்து, s. Single letters, in distinction from சுட்டெழுத்து, compound letters. தனிவழி, s. A lonely way. 2. Travelling alone. தனிவீடு, s. A solitary house. 2. A house with one square only. To have no mate, fellow, equal or match, ஒட்டாதிருக்க. 4. To be deserted, forsaken, helpless--as by the departure, or death of friends, அந்தரிக்க. (c.) தனிக்க, inf. [adverbially.] Alone, apart, &c., as தனிப்பெற. தனித்தஇடம், s. A solitary place. தனித்தகுடி, s. A solitary family. 2. A destitute, forlorn or helpless family. தனித்தாள், s. (a contraction of தனி த்த and ஆள்.) A single person, as a bachelor, widow, &c. 2. A helpless, forlorn, destitute person; also தனியாள். தனித்திருக்க, inf. (as தனிக்க.) To be alone; to be single, unmarried; to be alone, as a recluse. தனித்துக்கொள்ள, inf. [vul. prop. த னித்திருக்க.] To be left, forsaken, detached, to be alone--by banishment or otherwise--to be helpless, forlorn. தனித்துப்பேச, inf. To speak privately to any one. தனித்துப்போக, inf. To go alone, to go by one's self. 32)

tikku (p. 237) s. (Sa. Dik.) Region, quarter, point of the compass, direction, திசை. 2. Protection, shelter, aid, ஆதரவு. (c.) எனக்குத்திக்குமில்லைத்திசையுமில்லை. I have no support whatever. திக்குத்திசைதெரியாதஇருட்டு. Darkness so great that one knows not the points of compass or which way to go. திக்குநோக்கித்தெண்டனிடல். Making obeisance toward the place where a person is-a term of respect or reverence used in epistolary writings. திக்கெல்லாம்வெடிபடப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks loud enough to disturb all the points of compass. அஷ்டதிக்கு, s. The eight points of the compass are: 1. கிழக்கு, East. 2. தென் கிழக்கு, South-east. 3. தெற்கு, South. 4. தென்மேற்கு. South-west. 5. மேற்கு, West 6. வடமேற்கு, North-west. 7. வடக்கு, North. 8. வடகிழக்கு, North-east. Some add two others விசும்பு, the heavens or etherial regions, and பாதாளம், the abyss. தசதிக்கு--தசதிசை, s. The ten points for astrological purposes especially in choosing spots for building houses, &c., are named after certain animals. 1. கிழக்கு. கருடதிசை. 2. தென்கிழக்கு. பூனை த்திசை. 3. தெற்கு. சிங்கத்திசை. 4. தென்மேற்கு. கனகதிசை. 5. மேற்கு. நாகதிசை. 6. வடமே ற்கு, எலித்திசை. 7. வடக்கு. யானைத்திசை. 8. வடகிழக்கு. முயற்றிசை. 9. விசும்புத்திசை. 1. பாதாளத்திசை, which see.--Note The animals of the opposite points are natural foes to each other, the one being pursuer, and the other, the pursued. திக்கடைப்பு--திக்கெல்லை, s. [prov.] Boundaries of land, as mentioned in title deeds. திக்கற்றவன், appel. n. A forlorn, destitute, forsaken person. திக்காக, inf. [adverbiality.] In the direction of, toward. கிழக்குத்திக்காகப்போ. Go directly east. திக்காதிக்கு--திக்காலுக்கு, [prov.] In various directions, here and there, பலதிசையிலும். திக்காலுக்கொருத்தராய்ப்போய்விட்டார்கள். They are gone, are scattered in various directions. திக்கியானை, s. The elephants of the eight cardinal points, male and female supporters of the earth are:-1. East Male ஐராவதம். Female அப்பிரமை. 2. North. ,, சாருவபூமம். ,, அஞ்சனை. 8. N. E. ,, சுப்பிரதீபம். ,, அஞ்சனாவதி. திக்குக்கட்ட--திசைகட்ட, inf. To bind or fortify the cardinal points by turning to each point, repeating the incantation, as இந்திராயநம, and prostrating in worship, to the regent whose protection is sought; then turning to the next point. திக்குக்கட்டு--திக்குப்பந்தனம், v. noun. Fortifying one's self on all sides by incantations, invoking the protection of the regents of the cardinal points. திக்குநோக்க, inf. To look in any direction, as expecting a friend, &c. 2. To direct one's course to any point. திக்குப்பாலகர்--திசாபாலகர், s. The regents of the eight cardinal points, as protectors of the earth, situated beyond the seventh circumambient sea, and invoked in the daily worship, &c. 1. இந்திரன், Indra, regent of the south-east, whose sign is இடி, the thunderbolt. 2. அக்கினி, Agni, regent of the south, east whose sign is புகை, smoke. 3. இயமன், Yama, regent of the south, whose sign is சிங்கம், lion. 4. நிருதி, Niruti, regent of the south-west, whose sign is நாய், a dog. 5. வருணன், Varuna, god of the waters, regent of the west, whose sign is இடபம், a bull. 6. வாயு, Vayu, god of the wind, regent of the north-west. whose sign is கழுதை, an ass. 7. குபேரன், Kuvera, god of riches, regent of the north, whose sign is யானை, an elephant. 8. ஈசானன், Isanan, regent of the northeast, whose sign காகம், a crow. திக்குப்பலி--திக்குப்பூசை, s. Performing puja. around a temple, toward the eight points, to obtain the protection of their regents. திக்குப்பல்லி, s. The chirping of a lizard, as indicating good or ill, according to the direction on which it is heard. திக்குமாறாட்டம், v. noun. Confusion concerning the points of compass, as திசைமயக்கு. திக்குவிசயம், s. Conquering all regions. திக்குவிசயம்பண்ண, inf. To conquer hostile powers. திக்குளார், s. Owners of boundary lands. 27)

Chara corallina. பாசிகோக்க, inf. To string beads. பாசிக்குத்தகை--பாசித்தீர்வை, s. A tax on fish, மீன்குத்தகை. (Govt. usage.) பாசிபடர்தல், v. noun Spreading as moss. பாசிபற்ற--பாசிபிடிக்க--பாசிபூக்க, inf. To grow or occur, as a mossy or mouldy formation. பாசிபற்றினபல்--பாசிபிடித்தபல். Foul teeth.
