ōṭu (p. 84) s. The shell of an animal, ஆ மைமுதலியவற்றினோடு. 2. The shell of a nut, a pod, an egg, வித்துமுதலியவற்றினோடு. 3. A tile, தட்டோடு. 4. A piece of broken earthen ware, உடைந்தபானையோடு. 5. A skull, மண்டையோடு. 6. A mendicant's vessel for receiving alms, being commonly a shell or sherd, இரப்போர்கலம். 7. (fig.) Length, extension, நீளம். கேடுகாலத்துக்கு ஓடுகப்பறை. In time of distress a sherd may serve for an eating vessel; i. e. in time of need any thing will do. ஓடன், s. A tortoise, ஆமை. (M. Dic.) ஓடுபரப்ப--ஓடுமூட--ஓடுவேய, inf. A tree with very large thorns, the குடைவேல், Mimosa, L. 4. The dance of Skanda, குமரனாடல். குடைகவிக்க--குடைபிடிக்க, inf. To bear an umbrella. குடைக்காம்பு, s. See under காம்பு. குடைக்காரன், s. An umbrella-bearer. குடைநிழற்ற, inf. To afford shade--as an umbrella. குடைக்காளான், s. A kind of mushroom, ஓர்காளான். குடைக்கொள்ள, inf. [prov.] To rise in a body--as milk over the fire, as some cakes in frying, &c. 2. To rise or be puffed up--as a cloth, &c. 3. To capsize, to be upset--as a cart. குடைச்செவி, s. Ears pricked up and bent forward--as those of an elephant, tiger, horse, &c., in attack, surprise, or rage, குடைக்காது. குடைப்பனை, s. [prov.] A square of twelve feet, in landmeasure, பன்னீரடிச்சதுரக்குழி. 5. A well, கிணறு. 6. A tank, குளம். 7. The belly, வயிறு. 8. [prov.] A cavity at the bottom of a well from which to fill the basket when the water gets low, பட்டைக்கிடங்கு. 9. A grave, usually in composition--as பிரே தக்குழி. குழியிலேபோவாய். May you go to the grave; i. e. may you be ruined, a curse. குழிக்குத்து, s. [prov.] A hole, made for plants in transplanting. குழிக்குத்துக்கோல், s. A short stick, used in making the குழிக்குத்து. குழிபறிக்க--குழிதோண்ட, inf. To make a hole or a pit. குழிதிறக்க, inf. [local.] To open the sacred pit, with appropriate ceremonies, preparatory to the Mohurrum feast. குழிமூட, inf. To fill up the sacred pit. See குழிதிறக்க. குழியிற்புதைக்க, inf. To bury; to conceal. 2. To bury the dead, to entomb. குழிவிழ, inf. To form--as dimples or hollows in the cheeks, ulcers, &c. 2. To form, to be worn, &c.--as hollows in floors, or other surfaces. குழியில்விழ, inf. To fall into evil, vice, &c; lit. into the pit. குழியடிக்க, inf. To make holes in stones--as a stone-cutter. குழிக்கிட்டி, s. [local.] A kind of கிட் டிபுள்ளு game among boys, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. குழிச்சட்டி, s. A kind of earthen pan with hollow cavities for frying cakes. குழிப்புண், s. An ulcer in which holes are formed. குழியச்சு, s. Moulds for making gold beads. குழியம்மி, s. A hollow grind-stone. See under அம்மி. குழித்தைலம், s. Pit-oil; i. e. oil extracted in a pit. குழிநரி, s. A fox, ஓர்நரி. குழிமுயல், s. A rabbit, a coney, ஓர் முயல். குழிப்பிள்ளை, s. A cocoanut, planted deep--not to be . எத்தனைகுழி. How many square feet, or how many குழி? குழிக்கணக்கு, s. Square measure, reckoning by square feet, &c. குழிமாற, inf. [in arith.] To square; also, to multiply a number into another, குழிபெருக்க. குழிமாற்று, v. noun. [in arith.] Table of squares; also, of multiplication, குழிப் பெருக்கம். பெருங்குழி, s. [in arith.] The squaring, or multiplication of integral numbers. சிறுகுழி, s. [in arith.] The squaring, or multiplication of fractional or mixed numbers. குழிவெட்டி, s. A grave-digger, பிரே தக்குழிதோண்டுகிறவன். அட்்டைக்குழி, s. See under குண்டு. தளச்சட்டி--பதலைச்சட்டி--பெருஞ் சட்டி, s. A large pan. (R.) போகணிச்சட்டி, s. A brass or tin pan. பொரிக்குஞ்சட்டி, s. A frying pan. சட்டியுருட்ட, inf. To gamble with balls in a brass pan. 2. (fig.) [loc.] To equivocate, quibble, வாயாலுருட்ட. சட்டியொட்டி, s. A small sea-fish full of bones. See பொருவாய். (R.) சட்டித்தோசை, s. A large round cake. [prov.] Bushy kind of grass. See புல். சட்டிவட்டு, s. [prov.] The round root of கப்பல்வள்ளி் yams, which is cut out and planted for sprouting. சட்டித்தலை, s. A jolt-head, a pot-head. சட்டித்தலையன், s. (fem. சட்டித்தலைச்சி.) A big headed fellow. சட்டித்தலையுள்ளான், s. A kind of snipe. See உள்ளான். சட்டித்தலைப்பாகை, s. [loc.] A kind of large turban. ciluciluttl (p. 186) --சிலுசிலெனல், v. n. [prov.] Sounding, as food when frying, ஒலி க்குறிப்பு. 2. Prattling, chattering sounds, படபடென்றுபேசுதல். 3. Detonating, crackling--as water in contact with a burning wick, சுறுசுறெனல். 4. Raining lightly, drizzling, தூறல். 5. Having a chilly sensation, as in incipient fever, சிலுசிலெனக்குளிர் வருதல். tāḷi (p. 235) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To season and flavor curries with ghee, spices, &c., they being fried and mashed in a separate pan, the other ingredients in another, and the whole mixed white frying, and then covered, தாளிதஞ்செய்ய. 2. To season some medicines, with ghee, oil, &c., சுவைப்படுத்த. (c.) 3. To macerate lime, சுண்ணாம்பைக்குழையச்செய்ய. அவனைவைத்துத்தாளித்துவிட்டுவிடுவேன். I will put him down, subdue him, &c. நீற்றைத்தாளித்துக்குழை. Mash the lime and macerate it well. வெறுஞ்சட்டிதாளிக்கிறான். He seasons an empty sauce-pan; i. e. he boasts himself. தாளிதம்--தாளிப்பு, s. Seasoning curries, &c. 2. Boasting one's self. தாளிதம்பண்ண, inf. To season curries in a peculiar manner. தாளித்தகறி, s. Curry seasoned, and well mashed while cooking. தாளித்தசுண்ணாம்பு, s. Slaked lime for chewing, or for plaster. தாளித்தநீறு, s. Slaked lime for plastering. தாளித்தநெய், s. [prov.] Ghee mixed with spices and boiled to preserve it. தாளித்தமருந்து, s. Medicines seasoned with ghee, oil, &c. கடுகுதாளிக்க--கறிதாளிக்க, inf. To season curry with mustard, &c. சட்டிதாளிக்க, inf. To season a chatty by frying ghee and spices in it. (c.)

The fourteenth lunar asterism, சித்திரைநாள். நெய்யாமழுவாத்தீர்த்துக்கொள்ளுதல். Getting a matter decided by the ordeal. கையிலிருக்கநெய்யிலேகையிடுவானேன். When the thing stolen is found in the hand, why put the hand in (hot) oil? நெய்க்கடல், s. [also சர்ப்பிசமுத்தி ரம்.] One of the seven oceans, that of ghee. See கடல். நெய்க்கலசம், s. A ghee-pot. நெய்க்குடம்--நெய்ப்பானை, s. A large ghee-pot. நெய்குடமுடைந்ததுநாய்க்குவேட்டை. The breaking of the ghee-pot is food for the dog; One's loss is another's gain. நெய்க்கொட்டை, s. See நெய்க்கொட் டான். நெய்க்குழம்பு, s. Thick broth seasoned with ghee. 2. Thick ghee. நெய்ச்சட்டி, s. A chatty for frying. நெய்சாடி, s. A ghee-jar. நெய்ச்சாதம்--நெய்ச்சோறு, s. [poet. நெய்யலி.] Rice boiled in ghee, &c. நெய்ச்சிக்கு, s. Indigestion caused by eating ghee, it adhering to the bowels. நெய்ச்சுண்டு, s. A small portion of ghee sticking to the pot. See சுண்டு. 2. A small vessel for measuring ghee. நெய்த்திரி, s. A wick inserted in ghee and burned in the temple, or waved for a light before the idol. நெய்த்துடுப்பு, s. A kind of spatula. See துடுப்பு. 2. (R.) A vessel for oil; used by torch bearers. நெய்பூசுதல், v. noun. Smearing a vessel with ghee and holding it in the fire for purification. (p.) நெய்ப்பற்று--நெய்ப்பிடி--நெய்ப்பிடி ப்பு. v. noun. Greasiness, stickiness of ghee, &c. 2. Being fat or corpulent, as a person. நெய்ப்பீர்க்கு, s. A creeping plant. See நுரைப்பீர்க்கு. நெய்மீன், s. A fish, Peixe serra. நெய்யாடுதல், v. noun. A woman daubing herself with ghee. See நெய்விழா. நெய்யிலேவேகவைக்க, inf. To boil in ghee. நெய்விழா, s. A ceremony in which women daub themselves with ghee, before bathing, after child birth. (p.) நெய்விழுது, s. Butter, as first prepared from cream. நெய்விளக்கு, s. A lamp with ghee-in the temple, &c. நெய்வைத்தல், v. noun. Making medicated ghee, கிருதம்வைக்குதல். 2. pṇiyārm (p. 292) s. [also பணிகாரம், sometimes பண்ணிகாரம்.] Sweet cakes, fritters. (c.) மாவுக்குத்தக்கபணியாரம். The fritters are as the meal,; i. e. one's expenses should be proportionate to his means. பணியாரக்குடம், s. A new pot-full of sweet cakes; being one of the marriage presents commonly given by the bride's party. பணியாரச்சட்டி, s. A pot for frying cakes. பணியாரஞ்சுடுதல், v. noun. Baking or frying cakes. பணியாரத்துத்தி, s. A shrub, whose seeds are used for cakes. See துத்தி. 17)

pḷpḷkk (p. 303) inf. To glitter, coruscate, shine as a well polished surface, as தள தளக்க. (c.) பளபளப்பு, v. noun. Glittering, coruscation, Instre. 2. Radiance, பிரபை. 3. That which is dazzling, florid, showy, gorgeous, as some poetry, &c., செய்யுளின் பாகம். பளபளப்பானபாடல். A poem written in a florid style. பளபளவெனல்--பளபளெனல், v. noun. Glittering, gleaming, glistering. 2. Sounding, ஒலிக்குறிப்பு. பளபளென்றுபொரிகிறது. Sputtering as peas, &c., in frying. பளபளென்றுபொரிகிறவன். A florid talker. 13)

To ripen, to grow dry, முதிர. புழுங்கல்முறுகிப்போயிற்று.......The parboiled paddy is over-dried. முறுகுசடை, s. Matted or entangled hair-curls. முறுகுபதம், s. Entire dryness. See மருந்தெண்ணெய்ப்பதம், under பதம். முறுகல், v. noun. Making speed. 2. Wriggling, twisting. (சது.) திருகுமுறுகல். Any thing crooked or twisted, &c. 2.
