akttiṭ (p. 2) inf. [ex அகம், inside, et இடு. to give.] To insert, inclose, infold, உள்ளிட. (p.) அகத்தீடு, v. noun. Embracing, an embrace. 3)
அகோரை
akōrai (p. 3) s. An astrological division of the day into sections of one hour, or two and a half nalikies each, in which the seven planets reign successively, succeeding each other once in every cycle of seven hours. The order of succession is as follows, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars. From this it follows as a matter of course, that the planet which gives name to the day commences its reign at sun-rise, ஓரையினுட்பிரிவு. 31)

akkiṉipū (p. 4) s. [ex அக்கினி et பூ blossom.] Skanda, who led the celestial armies against the Asuras. Siva having cast his seed into the flame for the purpose of generating a warrior able to subdue Daruka one of the chief Asuras, Skanda was produced. In the Skanda Purana, where his wars are described at large, his birth is given differently, அக்கினிசன்மன். 20)

அசதி
acti (p. 5) s. Ridicule, scoffing, laughter, joking, pleasantry, சிரித்துப்பேசுகை. (p.) 2. (பஞ்.) Sunddenness, சடுதி. 3. Lightness, carelessness, (often used for அயர்தி). 4. Drowsiness, சோர்வு. 5. The name of a certain man who was praised by ஔவையார், supposed to be a shephered, ஔவையார் கேர வைபாடப்பெற்றவன். (c.) 6. (St.) An unchaste woman, வசவி. (p.) அசதிக்கோவை, s. The name of a book wherein a shepherd named அசதி is praised by ஔவையார்; it contains four hundred stanzas like all கோவை books. அசதிசன்னி, s. Apoplexy. (M. Dic.) அசதியற, (used adverbially.) Attentively, giving the whole attention, free from other dares. காதலர்தாய்தந்தைவைகுழி அசதியாடிலர், they indulge not in laughter in the presence of the father and mother of their husbands. 64) *
அசுமாற்றம்
acumāṟṟm (p. 6) s. [prov.] Suspicion, ஐயம். 2. A hint, a conjectural circumstance, சைகை. அசுமாற்றங்காட்ட, inf. To give a hint commonly as one thief to another, or to make a noise as a thief, to ascertain whether people are at home or awake. அசுமாற்றப்பட, inf. To be heard as a noise, or seen as a sight exciting suspicion of thieves or of mischief at hand. 39)

acckārm (p. 7) --அச்சாரம், s. (Tel.) Earnest money, money given in advance as security for the completion of a bargain, முன்பணம். 10)
அஞ்சனம்
añcaṉam (p. 7) s. Blackness, darkness, black coloring, கறுப்பு. 2. A collyrium or black paint for the eyelids, கண் ணுக்கிடுமை. 3. A black coloring or magic ointment put on the hand, &c. to assist in discovering lost, stolen, or concealed property; a species of magic, சேமப்பொருள் முதலியகாட்டுமை. 4. One of the eight elephants which support the world, being that of வருணன், regent of the west point, மேற்றிசையானை. Wils. p. 14. ANJANA. 5. Medicine for the eye when a person is bitten by a venomous snake, and also for one who has fits, கலிக்கம். 6. A black stone, marble, சலவைக்கல். (p.) அஞ்சனக்கலிக்கம், s. A magic ointment rubbed on the eyes or palms of the hand of one who wishes to discover any thing lost. அஞ்சனக்கல், s. Sulphuret of antimony, a combustible used in fireworks, giving a blue flame. See நிமிளை. (M. Dic.) அஞ்சனக்காரன், s. A soothsayer, conjurer, sorcerer. அஞ்சனக்கோல், s. A paint brush or pencil to blacken the eyelids. அஞ்சனத்திரயம், s. Three species of magical ointments, viz., பூதாஞ்சனம், that which assists in discovering whether a person is possessed or not; சோராஞ் சனம், that which assists in discovering stolen property; and பாதாளாஞ்சனம், that which assists in discovering treasure buried under ground. அஞ்சனபாஷாணம், s. One of the thirty-two kinds of native arsenic. அஞ்சனமெழுத, inf. To paint the eyes. அஞ்சனவண்ணன், s. Vishnu, the blue colored, திருமால். அஞ்சனாவதி, s. The female of the elephant supporting the north-east, or the eighth angle, of the world, வடகீழ்த்தி சையானைக்குப்பெண்யானை. அஞ்சனி, s. A small flower-tree, காயா, Memecylon, L. 2. A grass, நாணற் புல், Saccharum, L. (p.) 39) *

aṭācu (p. 7) கிறேன், அடாசினேன், வேன், அடாச, v. n. [prov.] To recede, give place to, விலக. v. a. To stuff in, cram, திணிக்க. 75)
அடைசு
aṭaicu (p. 8) கிறேன், அடைசினேன், வேன், அடைச, v. n. To deviate from a course, recede, give place to, ஒதுங்க. 2. To incline towards a color, நிறஞ்சார. 3. To crowd, get close together, increase, நெருங்க. 4. v. a. To stuff in, compress as cotton in a pillow, grass in a basket, &c., put or keep in the mouth as betel, ஒதுக்க. 5. To cleave or adhere to, கிட்ட. 6. [prov.] As அடைய. அடைசிப்போ. Give way, make room. அடைசுபலகை, s. A board to fill the space above a door frame. 23)
அட்சதை
aṭcatai (p. 8) s. An entire grain of rice, முழுவரிசி. Wils. p. 3. AKSHATA. 2. Whole rice mixed with saffron and put on the forehead of an idol, or of its worshipper or given to a Brahman, அங்கலவரிசி. (p.) அட்சதைப்பொட்டு, s. Mark made on the forehead with அட்சதை. 29) *

aṭcayam (p. 8) s. [priv. அ.] Permanence, that which will not waste or decay, கேடின்மை. (p.) Wils. p. 4. AKSHAYA. அட்சயதூணி, s. A quiver of Arjuna, அருச்சுனனம்புக்கூடு. அட்சயபாத்திரம், s. The vessel or plate given to the Pandawars by the sun, பாண்டவருக்குச் சூரியன்கொடுத்தபாத்திரம். 2. A beggar's basket carried by the Vishnu Brahmans, வைணவர்கள் ஐயமேற் கும்பாத்திரம். 32) *

aṇaicu (p. 9) கிறேன், அணைசினேன், வேன், அணைச, v. n. [prov.] To give way, step aside, விலக. 2. To take protection ஒதுங்க. (Rott.) 47)
அதிரு
atiru (p. 11) --அதிர், கிறேன், அதிர்ந் தேன், வேன், அதிர, v. n. To shake, quake, as by an earthquake, he fall of a tree, or the rolling of chariots, கம்பிக்க. 2. To be startled, alarmed as by the sound of a cannon, the report of thieves, the prevalence of an epidemic, &c., thrill, நடுங்க. 3. To resound attended with a shock, as by thunder, by an earthquake; to sound as a drum, &c., reverberate, vibrate, roar as beasts, tinckle as bells or ornaments, ஆர வாரிக்க. பூமியதிரநடவாதபுண்ணியவான். A good man, one who is careful not to give offence. அதிர்குரல்முரசம். The loud sounding drum. பூமியதிரல், v. noun. An earthquake, trembling of the earth. அதிர், v. noun. Commotion, shaking, trembling, fear, நடுக்கம், 2. s. Sound, ஒலி. அதிர்வெடி--அதிர்வேட்டு, s. The explosion or report of small cannons, &c., to excite alarm. 2. (prov.) The cannon itself. அதிர்ச்சி, v. noun. Quaking, shaking, trembling as of the earth by an earthquake, thunder, or the fall of a tree &c., அசைவு. 2. Resonance, repercussion, concussion, reverberation, எதிரொலி. 3. Agitation, stir, நடுக்கம். 4. A great noise, a loud report, an explosion, பேரொலி. அதிர்ப்பு, v. noun. A shock, concussion, &c., attended with noise, தாக்கி யொலிக்கை. 2. Clamor, shouting, vociferation, ஆரவாரம், 3. Tremor, trembling, நடுக்கம். 4. Fear, alarm, அச்சம். 28) *
