aḷḷu (p. 33) கிறேன், அள்ளினேன், வேன், அள்ள, v. a. To take up a handful, lade, bale, take up in the hollow of the hand-as water, sand, grain, &c., கையான்முகக்க. 2. To sweep away as a flood, carry off in large quantities or great numbers as an epidemic, famine, thief, &c., to ravage, plunder, pillage, spoil, devastate, வாரிக் கொள்ள. (c.) அள்ளாதுகுறையாது சொல்லாது பிறவாது. If nothing be taken, nothing will be wanting; if nothing be spoken, nothing will be rumored; i. e. there is no rumor however vague, but has some truth in it. அரிசியள்ளுகிறகாகம்போலே திரிகிறான். He wanders about as greedy (of gain) as the crow is of the rice which it steals. கையையள்ளிப்போட்டது. It has grazed or taken off the skin of my hand (whether a bow, hot iron, or any thing else.) அள்ளிக்கொட்ட, inf. To take up from a quantity and shoot down elsewhere. 2. To give liberally. அள்ளிருள், s. Thick darkness, or darkness so dense that it may be grasped. அள்ளுகொள்ளை, s. Great waste, profusion, extravagance or taking more than what is right, பெருங்கொள்ளை. அள்ளு, v. noun. A handful of grain, &c., given to the man who measures, அளவுகூலித்தானியம். அள்ளெடுக்கிறவன், s. The man who receives the handful of grain for measuring. அள்ளுதல், v. noun. Being narrow, close, நெருங்கல். 2. Taking up a handful of water, rice, grain, &c., getting water in a basket, pot, &c., taking out rice, milk, &c., by a spoon from a cup, &c., அள்ளுகை. 43)

uriñu (p. 64) --உரிஞ்சு, கிறேன், உரிஞி னேன்--உரிஞ்சினேன், வேன், உரிஞ--உரிஞ்ச, v. n. and a. To rub one's self, rub as beasts, chafe, உராய. 2. To become rubbed or grazed against a thing, to be bruised, excoriated, grazed off, &c., தேய. 3. To rub against one another--as trees, உரோச. 4. To rub away, wear away by rubbing, grind away --as sandal, to triturate, அரைக்க. (p.) நறுங்குறடுரிஞ்சுபூந்தேய்வை. The soft paste produced by triturating the fragrant sandal wood. (நைட.) உவாமதியுடலுரிஞ்சுதலாற்பிள்ளைவெண்மதியாதனன் றென்பபெரிதவக்கும். The full moon grazing his body (in passing through the window) wished himself young again. (நைட.) 16)

uraicu (p. 65) --உரைஞ்சு, கிறேன், உரை சினேன்--உரைஞ்சினேன், வேன், உரைச--உரைஞ் ச, (உரைஞ்சு, is a cor. of உரிஞ்சு,) v. n. To rub one's self against a thing, to rub as beasts against a post, &c., to chafe, உரிஞ. 2. To wear away by use--as the feet by walking, as a seat by sitting, &c., தேய. 3. v. a. To rub hard, scour, scrape, or scratch --as with the back of a nail, to brush, clean off, or waste away by rubbing, தேய்க்க. 4. To graze, gall, bruise by grazing, சீக்க. Illicit intercourse of the sexes. கள்ளநீர், s. Morbid humor in the body preventing the healing of ulcers, &c., புண்ணில்வடியுநீர். கள்ளநேரம், s. A concealed room which no one would suspect, பிறர்காணக் கூடாதஅறை. கள்ளவாசாரம், s. Mock modesty, feigned politeness, திருட்டாசாரம். கள்ளவாயில், s. A trap-door, கள் ளவழி. கள்ளவொழுக்கம், s. Hypocrisy, dissimulation, திருட்டுநடத்தை. கள்ளன், s. (plu. கள்ளர், fem. கள் ளி.) Thief, robber, rogue, vagabond, villain, knave, criminal, felon, depredator, திருடன். 2. One of the Kallar tribe, கள்ளச்சாதியான். கள்ளர்பற்று, s. The district of the Kallars. வேசிக்கள்ளர், s. Whore-mongers. ஆசாரக்கள்ளர், s. Persons insincere, incomplaisant. 2. Hypocrites in religion. திருநீறுகுழைக்குங்கள்ளர். Those who put on appearances of piety. கும்பிடுகள்ளர்--தொழுகள்ளர், s. Hypocrites, those insincere in religion, or in courtesy. அழுகள்ளர், s. He is sauntering about. கொண்டிக்கதவு, s. A door that turns with a pin at the upper corner. கொண்டிமாடு, s. A thievish, stray cow or bullock. கொண்டிமேய, inf. The poetic தளை are of seven kinds embracing four classes. I. ஆசிரி யத்தளை. connexion of ஆசிரியம் verse of two species. 1. நேரொன்றாசிரீயத்தளை, combination of simple syllables in the ஆசிரியம் connexion, or of one simple ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. 2. நிரையொன்றாசிரியத்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or the connexion of one compound ஆசிரியம் foot, with another. II. வெண்டளை, connexion of வெண் பா verse, also of two species. 1. வெண்சீர் வெண்டளை, combination of genuine வெண்சீர் foot, or of one வெண்சீர் foot with another foot, biginning with a simple syllable 2. இயற்சீர்வெண்டளை, combination of simple, or ஆசிரியம் feet, or connexion of an ஆசிரியம் foot ending with a compound syllable with another foot beginning with a simple syllable, or vice versa. III. கலித்தளை, connexion of the கலிப்பா verse, being single, viz.; that of வெண்சீர் foot ending with a syllable with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. IV. வஞ்சித்தளை, connexion of வஞ்சி verse of two species. 1. ஒன்றியவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of compound syllables, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another foot beginning with a compound syllable. 2. ஒன்றாதவஞ்சித்தளை, combination of a compound with a simple syllable, or of one வஞ்சி foot with another beginning with a simple syllable. For syllables and feet and their different species, see அசை and சீர். வளைபட்டகைமாதொடு மக்களெனுந் தளைபட்டழியத் தகுமோதகுமோ. Should I perish by being bound with my bracelet-adorned wife and children. தளைகழற்றிவிட, inf. To unloose or take off fetters. தளைத்தட்ட, inf. To fail or be defective, as a connection in verse, தளைதவற. தளைநார், s. [prov.] A foot brace for a tree-climber. தளைபட--தளைப்பட, inf. To be imprisoned, to be taken captive, சிறைப்பட. 2. To be bound, confined, restrained, கட்டுப்பட. தளைப்பூட்ட--தளைபோட, inf. To fetter, to shackle. தளைப்பொருத்தம், s. Harmonious combination of the தளை, in verse, தளையினிணக்கம். தளையவிழ, inf. To blossom as a flower, பூமலர. 2. To be unbound, to be unrestrained, கட்டவிழ. தளைவைக்க, inf. [prov.] To invest one with the office of உடையார். தளைவார், s.
