A marriageable girl. வல்லமையறிவோம். We will find out which is the most competent, (by way of bravado.) தன்னையறியுமறிவேயறிவாகும் பின்னையறிவது பேயறி வாமே. To know one's self is knowledge, other knowledge is inferior. அறிகருவி, s. The organs of sense. அறிகுறி, s. A sign, mark, token, symbol. அறிஞன், s. A man of knowledge, especially of divine things, அறிவுடையோன். 2. A poet, புலவன். 3. A sage, முனிவன். 4. Mercury the planet, புதன். 5. Buddha, புத்தன். அறிதுயில், s. A kind of sleep or meditation, in which the person understands all that passes about him--an attribute supposed to belong to the gods and sages, especially to Vishnu. அறிதுயிலமர்ந்தமூர்த்தி, s. Vishnu, திருமால். அறிமடம், s. Indisposition to reduce to practice what is learned. 2. Inability to recall to memory, stupidity in learned persons from infatuation. 3. Feigned ignorance. அறிமுகம், s. Acquaintance with persons (and in vulgar use) with things, slight familiarity. அறியக்கொடுக்க, inf. To inform against one, indict, impeach. 2. To communicate information, instruction, &c. அறியாமை, neg. v. noun. Ignorance. அறியாவினா, s. One of the six forms of interrogation--as when one asks for information. அறியொண்ணாமை, neg. v. noun. An atom from the airy regions which it is supposed strikes the eye, which does not recover till the same hour next day, ஆகாசத்திற் பறக்குமணு. ஆகாசத்தாமரை, s. A water plant, Pistia stratiotes, the roots of which float in the water, அந்தரத்தாமரை. 2. (fig.) An aerial or sky-lotus; i. e. a fanciful or ideal thing, absurdity, impossibility, பொய். ஆகாசபட்சி, s. The sky-lark, சா தகப்புள். ஆகாசமண்டலம், s. The aerial regions, வானமண்டலம். Wils. p. 13. AKASHAMANDALA. 2. A kind of dancing, ஓர்கூத்து. ஆகாசமயம், s. A base woman who outwardly appears faithful to her husband. ஆசாரச்சாவடி, s. King's court, கொலுமண்டபம். ஆசாரத்துடனிருக்க, inf. To remain uncontaminated, unpolluted after ablution. ஆசாரபோசன், s. A person of very respectable and dazzling appearance. ஆசாரப்பிழை, s. Ill-manners. 2. Want of cleanliness. ஆசாரப்புடவை, s. Silk cloth, or some other, worn when the daily rites are performed. The former is deemed the more sacred and not needing to be dipped in water for purification. Those unable to keep silk for the purpose, wear cotton cloths and dip them every time to purify them. ஆசாரவாசல்--ஆசாரவாயில், s. The outer hall in a king's court, where his subjects may assemble. 2. A room at the outer gate, or place of entrance of a house, தலைவாசல். ஆசாரோபசாரம், s. Civilities, politeness, compliments. 48)

The root of one of the negative symbolic verbs, (see அல்) expressive of total or exclusive negation of the thing or quality--the opposite of உள். Sometimes in poetry it stands as a contraction of இல்லை. இற்றிறம்பிலர். They fail not in the performance of domestic duties; [ex இல், house; திறம்பு, failure; இலர், who are not.] இணையில்நெஞ்சமே. Never. இதுவுமில்லை--அதுவுமில்லை--இரண்டுமில்லை. Neither this nor that, neither of the two. ஒற்றுமில்லை. Nothing. துப்புறவில்லை--பரிச்சேதமில்லை. Not at all. அளவில்லை. Beyond measure, immeasurable. இன்னதென்றில்லை. It is not described what it is, no matter what. இவ்வளவென்றில்லை. It is unascertained, not estimated, not measured. இல்வழக்கு, s. Unjust lawsuit, பொய்வழக்கு. எண்ணில்காலம், s. Incalculable time. அருளிலார், s. Those devoid of benevolence. இன்றி, v. part. from the root இல். Without. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay. ஒருபிரயாசமுமின்றி. Loss of power, property, dignity, &c., சீர்கேடு. ஈடன், s. A strong, competent, wealthy man, பெருமையுடையோன். ஈடன்பாடஞ்சான். A wealthy man will not fear losses. ஈடாட, inf. To compete with another, நேர்நிற்க. 2. [prov.] To be loose--as a tooth, a nail, the spokes of a wheel, to joggle, உழல. ஈடாட்டம், v. noun. Competing or matching with another. 2. Pecuniary ability, the free use of money--as by a rich merchant, கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல். 3. Being loose--as a nail, &c., உழலுகை. ஈடுகட்ட--ஈடுபண்ண, inf. To give security, பிணைகொடுக்க. 2. To make amends, restitution, reprisals, &c., to identify, ஈடுசெய்ய. ஈடுகொடுக்க--ஈடுசெலுத்த, inf. To reward, give an equivalent, to content, பதிலளிக்க. 2. To bear, tolerate, endure, yield, &c., ஈடுகட்ட. அவனுக்கீடுகொடுக்கமுடியாது. It is impossible to give him satisfaction. வீடுபலக்கக்கட்டினாற்புயலுக்குமீடுகொடுக்கும். If the house be strongly built, it will endure the storm. அவனுக்கிவனீடுகொடுக்கமாட்டான். This person cannot compete with him. ஈடுபாடு, s. Loss and gain, நய நஷ்டம். 2. Substitution, ஒப்பு. ஈடேற, inf. To be emancipated from sin, births, &c., to obtain final happiness, உய்ய. 2. To be saved from ruin and be rendered secure, to rise from indigence to prosperity, to be completely rescued from distress, difficulty, danger, disease, &c., வாழ்வடைய. கன்னிகையீடேறிவிட்டாள். The girl has attained a marriage settlement. அந்தக்குடியீடேறிவிட்டது. That family is rescued from indigence, saved from ruin. &c. ஈடேற்ற, inf. To deliver, rescue, இரட்சிக்க. 2. To raise one from distress, indigence, &c. to the attainment of the desired good, to promote, to establish in good circumstances. வாழ்வடை யச்செய்ய. 3. To redeem, emancipate from births, &c., மீட்க. ஈடேற்றப்பட, inf. To be saved, delivered, rescued from ruin indigence, distress, &c., to be rendered secure against danger, &c., இரட்சிக்கப்பட. ஈடேற்றம், s. Final and eternal happiness, the liberation of the soul from the body and its exemption from further transmigrations, and translation to a permanent state of happiness, final emancipation, பேரின்பவாழ்வு. 2. Deliverance from a state of suffering, indigence, &c., உய்வு. 3. The marriage of a destitute girl under favorable auspices, கன்னிகையீடேற்றம். ஈட்டுக்கீடு, s. Like for like, retaliation, requital. கடையீடு, s. Ground the lowest in value and assessment. தலையீடு, s. A very fruitful soil, known to be such by its aspect. 6)

To appear, abide and perish periodically--as the universe-உலகசஞ்சாரம், s. Inhabiting the world, பூமியிற்சஞ்சரிக்கை. உலகசயன், s. Buddha, புத்தன். (p.) உலகநடை--உலகவழக்கம்--உலக வழக்கு, s. The world considered in its expanse, உலகவிரிவு. உலகப்பற்று, s. Attachment to the world, mundane, or sensual attachments, உலகபந்தம். உலகப்புரட்டன், s. One who holds opinions and acts contrary to the sentiments of the wise. உலகமலையாமை, s. One of the ten அழகு or beauties of language, classical usage, &c. See அழகு. உலகமலைவு, s. [in rhetoric.] Incongruity, impossibility, absurdity--as அலை கடல்களேழுந்தூர்த்தந்தாத்தினூடே--மலையனையமால் யானையோட்டிக்--கலவாரை--நீறுசெய்துவையநெ டுங்குடைக்கீழ்வாழ்வித்தான்--மாறாச்சீர்வையையார் கோன், the Pandian king of Madura of endless fame filled the seven seas with sand, drove his elephant through the sky, reduced his enemies to ashes, and brought the whole world under his sway. (அலங்.) உலகமாதா, s. The mother of the world--applied to Sarasvati, சரச்சுவதி. 2. Lukshmi, இலக்குமி. 3. Parvati, பார்ப் பதி. (p.) உலகமீன்றாள், s. Parvati the wife of Siva, the mother of the world, பார்ப்பதி. (p.) உலகமுண்டோன், s. Vishnu the world-eater, விட்டுணு. (p.) உலகரட்சகன், s. The saviour or protector of the world. உலகரட்சணியம்--உலகரட்சை, s. Protection, or salvation of the world. உலகர், s. Worldlings, those engrossed by worldly pursuits. (தீ. 335.) (p.) உலகவழக்கம், s. The customs of the world. உலகவாசை--உலகவாஞ்சை, s. Ardent love of worldly, or sensual enjoyments, உலகவிருப்பம். உலகவாழ்வு, s. Temporal prosperity. உலகளந்தோன், s. Vishnu the measurer of the world, விட்டுணு. (p.) உலகாசாரம், s. Relative duties, the customs, rites or duties to be performed according to the country, caste, rank, relation, &c., of persons respectively. உலகாயிதம், s. A system of materialism, or atheistical epicurianism, அறுசமயங்களிலொன்று. See சமயம். (p.) உலகாள--உலகோம்ப, inf. To govern, protect his country--as one of the duties of a king. உலகாள்வோன், s. A monarch, உலோகாதிபன். உலகியல், s. The customs of the world, உலகநடை. உலகோம்பல், v. noun. Preserving the world--one of the six occupations of kings. See தொழில். உலகோற்பத்தி, s. The origin, or development of worlds. மேலுலகு, s. The upper worlds, which are seven in number, viz.: பூலோ கம், புவர்லோகம், சுவர்லோகம், மகாலோகம், சன லோகம், தபோலோகம், சத்தியலோகம். கீழுலகு, s. The lower worlds or regions; which are also seven, அதலம், விதலம், சுதலம், தராதலம், இரசாதலம், மகாதலம், பாதாளம். மூவுலகம், s. The three worlds, viz.: சொர்க்கம், மத்தியம், பாதாளம். மூவுலகாளி, s. God, (lit.) the sovereign of the three worlds, கடவுள். (p.) மூவுலகுணர்ந்தோன், s. He who comprehends the three worlds, God, க டவுள். 2. Argha, அருகன். (p.) மூவுலகேந்தி, s. uḷai (p. 67) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To ache or suffer pain in the limbs from weariness, cold, rheumatism, நோவ. 2. To gripe, suffer pain--as persons with dysentery, வயிறுளைய. 3. To ache--as the gums in teething, பல்லுவலிக்க. 4. To suffer--as in bringing forth young, சூலுளைய. 5. To suffer either in mind, or body; to be in a state of suffering, வருந்த. In most of the meanings, a dragging or moving pain is implied. உனக்குமுதுகுளைகிறதா? Does your back ache? i. e. why do you behave so as to incur punishment? உளைந்துளைந்துபேச, inf. To express regret again and again from revolving in mind an injury received. மூக்குளைய, inf. To ache--as the nose. இடுப்புளைய, inf. To feel pain in the hips-as in child-bearing, or as persons in some diseases, or after a long walk. மனமுளைய, inf. To be pained in mind from unkind conduct or expressions. கால்கையுளைய, inf. To suffer pain in the arms and legs. வாயுளைய, inf. To be tired as the mouth by constant talking. வாயுளையுமளவுமலட்டினான். He chattered till his mouth ached. வயிறுளைய, inf. To suffer as in bringing forth young. 2. To suffer with dysentery. குடவளையினங்கள்வயிறுளைந்தீன்றகுருமணி. The bright pearls produced from the round conchs-- (நைட.) உளைமாந்தை, s. [vul.] An internal imposthume, கடுநோய். உளைவு, v. noun. Griping pain, throbbing, வலிப்பு. 2. Hard pain in the limbs, &c.--as from rheumatism, weariness, cold, &c., குடைவு. உளைவுகொள்ள, inf. To ache--as the limbs, with weariness, &c., வலிப்புற. உளைவெடுக்க, inf. To be attacked with griping, or rheumatic pains, வலிப் பெடுக்க. காலுளைவுகையுளைவு, s. Pains in the limbs--as from walking, labor, &c. பல்லுளைவு, s. Supposed distress in the teeth of a snake, or other animal, from the want of opportunity to gratify the disposition to bite, to discharge venom, &c. வயிற்றுளைவு, s. Dysentery. 49)

ettu (p. 73) கிறேன், எத்தினேன், வேன், எத்த, v. a. To inveigle, cheat, seduce, entrap, defraud, entangle by specious appearances, வஞ்சிக்க. 2. To coax, wheedle a child, &c., இதஞ்சொல்ல. என்னையெத்தியதைவாங்கிக்கொண்டான். Having deceived me, he obtained the thing. எத்தப்பார்க்க, inf. To intend deceiving. எத்திப்பறிக்க, inf. To obtain by deceit. எத்து, v. noun. Inveigling, seduction, cheating, deception by fair appearances, circumvention, வஞ்சகம். எத்துக்குட்பட்டவன், s. One who has been deceived. எத்தன், s. [vul.] An inveigler, a cheat, an impostor, வஞ்சகன். எத்துப்புத்தி, s. Deceptive advice, suggestions, &c. எத்துவாதம், s. Contradiction, அகடவிகடம். எத்துவாதம்பண்ண, inf. To contradict. எத்துவார்த்தை, s. Enticing words. 58)

eṉṉāliyṉṟvḷvum (p. 48) . To the extent of my ability, as much as I can. இயலாமை, neg. v. noun. Impracticability, impossibility, incompetency, கூடாமை. இயல்பு--இயல்வு, v. noun. Ability, being able. இயல்பாயிருக்க, inf. To be able be influential. இயல்புள்ளவன், s. A man of ability. 10)

ēy (p. 79) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To resemble, to be like, be similar to, ஒப்பாயிருக்க. (p.) 2. To deceive, cheat, defraud, வஞ்சிக்க. முருந்தேய்க்குமுட்போலெயிற்றினாய். O thou whose teeth are like the points of quills and thorns. நின்முகமேய்க்குமதி. The moon that resembles your face-ஏய்ப்ப. The infinitive of ஏய், like, used as a particle of comparison, உவ மைச்சொல். (p.) முத்தேய்ப்பவொளிர்முறுவல். Teeth resplendent as pearls. ஏய்ப்பு, v. noun. Deceit, fraud, imposition, cheating, வஞ்சகம். ஏய்ப்புக்காட்ட, inf. To deceive, defraud, circumvent, to dupe. 43)

ēlu (p. 79) கிறது, ஏன்றது, ம், ஏல, v. n. To unite, to combine, to join, to be fit, adapted to, பொருந்த. 2. To be suited to. to consist with; தகுதியாக. 3. To be able, be possible, be practicable, be competent for, கூட. ஏலாதனவேயியம்பினீர். Thou hast uttered improper words. (ஸ்காந்.) இதுஉன்னாலேலுமா. Canst thou do this? ஏலுங்காரியம், s. A possible thing, what one is competent for. ஏலல், v. noun. Joinings, possibility. ஏலாதார், s. Impertinent persons, இயலாதார். 2. Foes, enemies, பகைவர். ஏலாமை, neg. v. noun.
