aruṭṭu (p. 25) கிறேன், அருட்டினேன், வேன், அருட்ட, v. a. To excite, wake one from sleep or from inactivity, rouse to exertion, எழுப்பிவிட. (c.) அருட்டி, v. noun. Waking, excitation, agitation, நடுக்கம். அருட்டு, v. noun. Waking, rousing, exciting, எச்சரிப்பு. 14) *

kiṭ (p. 108) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To lie, lie down, lie in a state of sleep or inactivity, &c., to lie-as a stone, or other lifeless bodies, படுக்க. 2. To be in a state or condition, to exist, இருக்க. 3. To remain, to continue, தரித்திருக்க.--Note. It is often used contemptuously, and sometimes assumes a transitive form. கிடக்கட்டும். Never mind; it is of no consequence; let it be; leave it untouched. அதுவெகுநாளைக்குக் கிடக்கும். It will endure a long time; will last long. காரணங்கிடக்கும். There is a cause. முட்டக்கிடவாது. It will not bear a slight hit or shove. ஊர்அமர்க்களமாய்க்கிடக்கிறது. There is a row or riot in town, lit. the country is a battlefield. அதுகிடக்க. Leaving that; further more. சும்மாகிட. Be quiet, hush. சென்றதுகிடந்திட. Leaving what is past. பகைவர்வருகிறாரென்று கிடக்கிறது. The rumour, the report is, that the enemy is coming. வியாதியாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To be sick. கிடக்கை, v. noun. Lying, கிடத்தல். 2. s. State, condition, நிலைமை. 3. A bed, a couch, any sleeping place, படுக்கை. 4. The earth, பூமி. மனக்கிடக்கை, s. A feeling, as it exists in the mind; one's own feeling, மனக்கருத்து. 2. Emotion, pathos, passion, உளத்தியல். கிடப்பு, v. noun. Lying, கிடக்கை. 2. s. State, condition--commonly undersirable--as suffering, hunger, &c., இருக்கை. கிடை, v. noun. Lying, lying prostrate, a reclining posture, கிடக்கை. 2. s. State, condition--commonly not desirable, நிலை மை. 3. A fold, a pen, a stall, a nest, a lair, any place where beasts or birds lie, --as ஆட்டுக்கிடை, a sheep-fold, மாட்டுக் கிடை, a cow-stall, &c. கிடைகாட்ட, inf. To lie on the back-as beasts when dying. கிடைகூட்ட--கிடைமறிக்க--கிடைவை க்க, inf. To pen up or fold cattle for their manure. கிடைச்சரக்கு, s. Goods lying long on hand. கிடைதலை, s. The condition of being bed-ridden; prostration by sickness or old age. கிடைநாய், s. A shepherd's dog. கிடைப்பட, inf. To be laid on a bed of sickness, to lie ill. கிடைப்பாடு, v. noun. Lingering on a bed of sickness; being bed-ridden, being long lost, by theft, &c. கிடைபாய், s. Bed-mat, a mat for sleeping on. See பாய். கிடைமாடு, s. Cows in a pen, கிடையி லுள்ளமாடு. கட்டுக்கிடையாயிருக்க, inf. To lie a long time unopened, and thus liable to damage. கிடந்தகிடை, Lying as before. கிடந்தகிடையிலேகிடக்கிறான். He still lies as he did. 2. He remains as he was. கிடந்தகிடையைமறந்துவிட்டான். He has forgotten his former estate. நான்மூன்றுமாசங்கிடைவிடவில்லை. I have not left my bed for these three months. கிடவாக்கிடை, [vul.] Hardship, unusual severity, hunger, &c., கஷ்டம். கிடவாக்கிடைகிடக்க, inf. To be starved. 2. To pinch one's self. 27)

cōmpu (p. 212) s. Apathy, supineness, listlessness, சோம்பல். 2. Lethargy, heaviness, lassitude, dullness, sluggishness of the system, மந்தம். 3. Sloth, idleness, laziness, inactivity, indolence, slowness, sleepiness, தூக்கம். சோம்பரென்பவர்தேம்பித்திரிவர். Lazy people will be wandering about and suffering, (Avv.) சோம்பரை--சோம்பறை, s. [prov.] Apathy, idleness. 2. Stretching one's self. 3. (fig.) An idle, lazy person. சோம்பறைக்காரன்--சோம்பறையன்-சோம்பன், s. [prov.] A sluggard, an idler, a lazy-fellow, a lubber. சோம்புத்தனம், s. tāmacam (p. 233) --தாமதம், s. One of three qualities or principles in nature--that of darkness, ignorance, delusion, sluggishness, முக்குணத்தொன்று. (See குணம்.) W. p. 372. TAMASA. 2. Dilatoriness, tardiness, drowsiness, துக்கம். 3. Delay, detention, தடை. 4. Slowness, dullness, sluggishness, inactivity, மந்தகுணம். 5. Reluctance, backwardness, unwillingness, பிரிய வீனம். (c.) சொல்லுகிறதுதான்தாமசம். You no sooner direct than he complies. தாமசசிருட்டி, s. The creation of evil or powers of evil. தாமசபதார்த்தம், s. Variety of food and drinks, மதுமாமிசமுதலியன. தாமசபுராணம், s. A Purana with tamasa imperfections. தாமசப்பிரகிருதி, s. One of a bad disposition, also a sluggard, சோம்பன். தாமசவேளை, s. A time of anger or passion. 2. As தாமதவேளை. தாமசன்--தாமதக்காரன், s. A slow, inactive person. தாமதப்பட, inf. To be delayed, to be detained. 2. To linger, to be tardy, to be reluctant. தாமதப்பல்லி, s. A lizard chirping in such a direction in the house as to denote delay, obstruction, misfortune. See வரத்துப்பல்லி. தாமதம்பண்ண, inf. To delay, to detain, to prolong, to retard. தாமதவேளை, s. [in astrology.] The division of the day--it being in three parts--which is most unfavorable for enterprize. 55) *

ptmai (p. 293) s. Softness, tenderness, mellowness--as of ripe fruits or well boiled food, மிருது. 2. Slowness, inertness, inactivity, அமைதி. 3. Lowness or softness of voice, &c., மெல்லோசை. 4. Weakness, gentleness, suavity, tractableness, mildness, placidity, மெத்தெனவு. 5. Pliancy, smoothness, suppleness, blandness, இணக் கம். 6. Submission, resignation, தாழ்மை-In most of the meanings it is limited to jaffna. பதமையானஓலை. Pliant, tender olas fit for matting, &c. பதமையானகடுதாசி. Smooth paper. பதமையானகுணம். Mild or meek disposition. பதமையானவன். A mild, considerate man. 2. A man rather slow. பதமையாகக்காரியம்பார்க்கிறவன். He is one who attends to a thing deliberately. 13)

mṭi (p. 340) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To be bent, folded, turned down, or lapped in, மடங்க. 2. To be turned as an edge, or a point, &c., முடங்க. 3. To bend, or incline-as the head of one asleep, &c, தலைசாய. 4. To fall, be beaten down--as grain in the field, கதிர்சாய. 5. To wither, bend and hang--as withered leaves, வாட. 6. To roll over--as waves, அலைமடங்க. 7. To perish; to be slain in war; to perish by epidemics, கெட. 8. To die, சாக. 9. [in comb.] To be grieved, disheartened; mortified; to have the affections blunted, திடன்குறைய. 1. [prov.] To break, to be broken--as ripe blisters, கொப்புளமுடைய. மடிகம்பு, s. [prov. com. படைமரம்.] A weaver's rod for arranging the warp. மடிகாது--மடிசெவி, s. Lopping ears-as of dogs. மடிசல்--மடியல், v. noun. Grain injured by time, &c. மடிமை, v. noun.
