oṟṟu (p. 84) s. A mute consonant, மெய் யெழுத்து. 2. Spying, espionage, searching, agency, வேவு. 3. A messenger, an agent or emissary, தூதன். 4. A spy, வேவுகாரன். ஒற்றர், s. Spies, searchers, emissaries, வேவுகாரர். 2. The confidential agents or messengers of a prince whether employed in his own dominion or another's, for a good or bad purpose, தூதர். ஒற்றராலக்கணத்தேயுணர்ந்து. Being acquainted (with the counsels of the enemy) at that time through the spies. (பார.) கன்னலொன்றளவைதன்னிற்கந்தவேளொற்றன்யா க்கை சின்னபின்னங்களாகச்செய்குவன். I would tear to pieces the body of Veeravagu, Skandar's emissary, in the space of an hour. (ஸ்காந்.) ஒற்றளபு--ஒற்றளபெடை, s. The insertion of a consonant in verse to lengthen the sound. See அளபெடை. ஒற்றாடல், v. noun. The act of directing spies. ஒற்றாளுதல், v. noun. Employing spies or secret messengers, தூதரையாளுதல். ஒற்றுக்கேடு, s. The elision of a consonant. ஒற்றுக்கேட்டல், v. noun. Overhearing. ஒற்றுப்பெயர்த்தல், v. noun. [in மி றைக்கவி.] Constructing a species of verse so artfully that, independent of the main sense, other meanings may be contained in it, மிறைக்கவியினோருறுப்பு--as அம்புத்தலை, the head of an arrow is அப்பு த்தலை, when the mute is hardened--which means the new head--besides the original meaning. ஒற்றெழுத்து, s. An inanimate consonant, மெய்யெழுத்து. ஒற்றொழிபாட்டு, s. A verse that contains no mute consonants, மெய்யெழு த்தில்லாப்பாட்டு. 27)

Gut'ha, to envelope, screen.) கூட்டோடேபோச்சுது குளிருங்காய்ச்சலும். The fever and ague have gone off with the case (the body); i. e. the person has died. கூடுகட்ட, inf. To build nests, cases, &c.--as birds, caterpillars, bees, &c. 2. To make cages, hives, &c. 3. To put a case or covering on fruits, &c. கூட்டிலடைக்க, inf. To inclose in a cage, to encage, to coop up. 2. To enclose a charm, a talisman or an amulet in a casket. கூட்டுப்பல்லக்கு, s. [prov.] A palankeen with sliding doors. கூடுபோட--கூடுவிட, inf. To die; lit. to drop the body. கூடுவிட்டுக்கூடுபாய, inf. To leave its own body at pleasure and enter another, or an inanimate thing--as the soul is feigned to do; a magic art. கூடுங்கழுந்தும், s. To pass freely--as the breath of a person when noticed to ascertain his fortune. சரம்பார்க்க, inf. To observe the free passage of the breath. சரங்கட்ட, inf. To make a wreath. சரந்தொடுக்க, inf. To shoot arrows. ஒருவன்மேற்சரந்தொடுத்தல். Shooting arrows at one, i. e. aspersing his character, casting dirt upon him. (c.) சரப்பணி, s. [com. சரப்பளி.] A gold chain for the neck. சரமணி, s. A waist-belt with tinkling bells, அரைப்பட்டிகை. சரமணிக்கோவை, s. The சரமணி belt. சரமாதம், s. [in astrol.] Any of the four months corresponding with its appropriate சரராசி. சரராசி, s. [in astrol.] Four signs of the zodiac auspicious to movements-such as setting out on a journey, &c.; the four being Aries, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. See இராசி. சரமாலை, s. To obtain bliss. சித்திபெற்றவன்--சித்தியுள்ளவன், s. One who has succeeded in magic, medicine, business, &c. சித்திமுத்தி, s. The happiness of success. (Colloq.) சித்தியாக, inf. To prove successful as magic, incantations, medicines, undertakings, &c., பயன்பட. அட்டசித்தி--அட்டமாசித்தி, s. The eight superhuman powers ascribed to Siva, and which, it is supposed, may be acquired by extraordinary austerities attended with magical rites. They are. 1. அணிமா, the power of reducing one's self or any thing else to the size of an atom. 2. மகிமா, the power of increasing one's bulk without limit. 3. இலகிமா, the power of rendering one's self or other things light, overcoming gravitation. 4. கரிமா, the faculty of increasing weight, solidity, &c., also written கிரிமா. 5. பிராத்தி, the power of attaining every thing desired, as to touch the moon with the finger, &c. 6. பிராகாமியம், the power to overcome natural obstacles and go any where. 7. ஈசத்துவம் or ஈசிதை, Supreme dominion over animate or inanimate nature. 8. வசித்துவம், or விசி தை, the power of enchanting, changing the course of nature or assuming any form.--Note. To injure, destroy, defile, annihilate, ruin. சூனியதிசை, s. The S. E. point of the compass, bring by some astrological or other influence deemed unpropitious. 2. The direction or side in which the breath does not pass from the nostril, right or left, at any given time. See. சரம். சூனியநிதி, s. A phasis of the moon, which, when a similar one occurs in the same month, is regarded as unpropitious, the other being propitious. சூனியத்துவம், s. Fordableness, ford, தாண்டுதுறை.-- The நிலை, (attitudes) in archery are; 1. பைசாசம், standing with one leg straight and the other bent, as devils are said to stand; 2. மண்டலம், standing with both knees bent out; 3. ஆலீடம், standing with the right knee bent out, and the left foot advanced; 4. பிரத்தியாலீடம், standing with the left knee bent and the right foot advanced. Fickleness, wavering, instability, உறுதியின்மை. நிலையில்லாதவன், appel. n. A changeable person, one who breaks his word. நிலையுடைக்கட்டை, s. A pivot. (R.) நிலையுடைமை, v. noun. Stability, firmness. (p.) நிலையுமல், s. [prov.] A large basket for grain, &c., kept stationary. நிலையுரல், s. A large mortar. நிலையூன்ற, inf. To take firm footing, become firmly settled in place, பலப் பட. 2. To become firmly rooted as a tree, வேரூன்ற. நிலைவரம், s. [improp. நிலைபரம். Tel. நிலவரமு.] State, condition, circumstances, நிலைமை. 2. Certainty, assurance, உண்மை. 3. Firmness, steadiness, sureness, உறுதி. நிலைவரப்பட்டவன், appel. n. A person who may be depended upon. நிலைவிளக்கு, s. Lamps placed in a square frame in a temple opposite the door; being stationary, not taken for other purposes. See சட்டவிளக்கு. ஒருநிலையாய்நிற்றல், v. noun. Continuing in a stationary posture. 2. A hard consonant following this word is doubled; or its correlative nasal is substituted; the latter is the more elegant. --In Jaffna பாழ் is changed, to பாண், regularly in combination, before ஞ, ந, ம--as பாண்ஞானம், பாணாடு, பாண்மனை and improperly before க, வ, &c., பாண்கிணறு, பாண்வீடு. பாழூருக்குநரியேராசா. In a ruined town the jackal is lord பெண்ணைப்பாழிலேதள்ளினேன். I have thrown my daughter into a desert; by an unhappy marriage. பாழிலே--பாழுக்கு. In vain, to no purpose. பாழுக்கிறைக்க, inf. To labor, or spend time in vain; (lit.) to water in vain. பாழ்க்கடிக்க, inf. [v. noun. பாழ்க்கடி ப்பு.] To desolate, devastate, to reduce to ruins, பாழ்படச்செய்ய. பாழ்ங்கிணறு, s. An empty, neglected or decayed well. பாழ்ங்குடி, s. A desolate, distressed family. பாழ்ஞ்சேரி--பாழ்நத்தம், s. A decayed or deserted village. பாழ்நிலம், s. Barren land. பாழ்ந்துரவு, s. A decayed well. பாழ்ம்புறம், s. Desolated regions. பாழ்பட, inf. To be ruined, desolated, கெட. பாழ்வாயன், s. [fem. பாழ்வாய்ச்சி.] A complainer without cause. பாழ்வாய்கூற, inf. To manifest ingratitude by saying. I received nothing; to murmur. பாழ்வெளி, s. The vast expanse or vacuum in which Deity is supposed to dwell. 2. A desert or uninhabited region, மைதானவெளி. 42)
