arumai (p. 26) s. Rareness, scarceness, scantiness, அபூர்வம். 2. Preciousness, desirableness, pre-eminence. மேன்மை. 3. Difficulty, laboriousness, வருத்தம். 4. Impossibility, unattainableness, கூடாமை. 5. Delicacy, சிறப்பு.--Note. As an adjective, மை is dropped before a consonant with a change of that, when required in combination, and அரு may be changed into அரிய with or without து, or the last vowel may be dropped, and the first lengthened as in ஆருயிர், precious life. அருங்கலைநாயகன், s. Buddha, the lord of eminent sciences, புத்தன். அருங்கலைவினோதன், s. one devoted to learning; one whose time is spent in cultivating the arts and sciences. அருங்கிடை, s. Extreme hunger from long abstinence, &c., பட்டிணி. அருங்கிடைகிடக்க, inf. To be in a starving condition. அருங்கேடன், s. One who is imperishable, who will always prosper. (குறள்.) 2. (c.) A very treacherous man, a profligate wretch. அருங்கோடை, s. Vehement heat. 2. Severe drought. அருஞ்சிறை, s. Rigorous servitude, கடுஞ்சிறை. (Ram.) 2. Hell, நரகம். அருநரகம், s. A cruel hell. அருநிலை, s. Difficult standing said of a ford when impassable. அருநிழல், s. A slight shade. அருநெறி, s. A narrow or difficult way. 2. Gate-way or entrance. அருந்தமிழ், s. Elegant Tamil. அருந்தவம், s. Rigid austerities. அருந்தவர், s. Ascetics. அருந்தூதன், s. A tormentor, one who inflicts pain, வேதனைசெய்வோன். அருமருந்து, s. Nectar, அமிர்தம். In classical works, this in the form அருமருந்தன்னபிள்ளை is contracted to அருமந்த, precious as nectar, as, அருமந்தபிள்ளை. A very dear child, அருமந்ததேர். A very costly chariot. அருமறை, s. The sacred Vedas. Ell. 145. 4. அருமறைக்கொடியோன், s. A name of Dronácharya, the military preceptor of the Pandavas and Kurus, because of the Vedic device on his banner. அருமைப்படுத்த, inf. To make scarce, hard, difficult. 2. To impart reluctantly, make much of. அரும்பண்டம், s. A rare article, choice wares, valuable commodity. அரும்பிணி, s. An incurable disease. (நாலடி.) Ell. 118. அரும்பூட்டு, s. [prov.] A girdle, waist-string, necklace, &c., so short as scarcely to be brought to meet, a string, rope, &c., so short as to be tied with difficulty, a bow-string so short as to be liable to break if brought up too far, any thing too little, too short, too narrow, &c., எட்டாப்பூட்டு. 2. Difficulty in settling a negotiation, agreement, &c., இணக்கக்கூடாமை. 3. Entanglement, ensnarement, மோசத்திலகப்படுகை. 4. Forced connection in language, clauses disconnected or not joined naturally, difficult or unnatural; construction, தொடர்ச்சி யின்மை. சொற்களையரும்பூட்டாய்த் தொடுத்துப்பேசினான். He spoke in an unconnected manner. அரும்பொருள், s. Excellent advice, hard doctrine, a rare or difficult meaning. 2. A choice or precious article. அருவினை, s. A great sin. அருவினைகளைந்து. The five great sins. தெய்வமொருவனென்றேத்தி யொருமித்திருந்தால் அருவினைகளைந்துமறும். The five great sins will be forgiven him who worships the one God with singleness of heart. (கம்பன்.) 5)

āṟu (p. 43) கிறேன், ஆறினேன், வேன், ஆற, v. n. To abate, relax, cool, grow cold, be refreshed, குளிர. 2. To be appeased, alleviated, mollified, தணிய. 3. To heal as a wound, hurt, &c., சொஸ்தமாக. 4. To rest, repose, இளைப்பாற. (c.) ஆறுவதுசினம். Anger should be appeased. புண்ணாறிற்று. The wound is healed. ஆறாப்பசி, s. An insatiable hunger. ஆறாப்புண், s. An incurable sore, ulcer, &c. மனதாற, inf. To be appeased when angry, be consoled. ஆறுதல், v. noun. Abating, being alleviated, consoled, mitigated, refreshed. ஆற்றிபண்ண, inf. To relieve, aid one by carrying his load, &c., give one rest, respite. 67) *

cāttiyam (p. 176) s. That which is attainable, practicable or possible,சாதிக்கத்தக்கது. 2. [in med.] What is curable or remediable, குணமாக்கத்தக்கது. 3. Result success, completion, அனுகூலம். 4. tīr (p. 243) கிறது, ந்தது, தீரும், தீர, v. n. To end, terminate, he consummated, completed, முடிய. 2. To cease as pain or disease; terminate as a curse or its effects, நீங்க. 3. To be determined, decided, settled, as a law-suit or quarrel; to be passed as a sentence, தீர்மானமாக. 4. To be performed or completed as a duty; to be perfected, finished, நிறைவேற. 5. To leave, quit, cease, pass way, ஓய. 6. To be long, remote, to extend, நீள. 7. To be exhausted, used up, consumed, அற. 8. To expire as the allotted punishment for past deeds by the suffering and enjoyment of the soul, to be expiated as sin; to end as transmigration by absorption in the deity, ஊழொழிய. 9. v. a. (கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், தீர.) To polish or grind gems, clean gems, சா ணைதீர. 1. To fire off a cannon or musket, வெடிதீர. 11. To dye, stain, tinge, imbue with color, சாயந்தீர. 12. To finish, as the interlude between the stanzas in singing, playing, dancing, beating time, &c., தாளந் தீர. 13. To levy duty, assess a tax, &c. சுங்கந்தீர. 14. To solve a problem or make any mathematical calculation, கணக் குத்தீர. (c.) 15. (R.) To draw out in a line, as பார்தீர, to draw out troops in ranks. எனக்குவரத்தீராது. I cannot come. அவர்கள் பலவந்தம்செய்ததனால் தீராதென்று கொடு டுக்கவேண்டியிருந்தது. By their pressing (he said) it will not cease; it is necessary to give--Note தீராது, in such cases has a peculiar meaning. தாளந்தீர்ந்தான். He finished a tune. அதற்குவர்ணந்தீர்ந்தான். He painted it. இவன்தீர்ந்தசாமி. He is a brave fellow; (lit.) a brave god. (In irony.) தீர்கடை, s. The last end of a thing, termination, conclusion, முடிவு. 2. Absoluteness, entireness, முழுமை. தீர்ந்தகணக்கு. A settled account. தீர்ந்தகள்ளன், s. A finished rogue, a thorough villain, desperate thief. தீர்ந்தசரக்கு, s. (neg. தீராதசரக்கு.) Goods on which duty is paid. 2. Goods bargained for. தீர்ந்தபட்சம், s. The final settlement of accounts, disputes, &c. தீர்ந்தவன், s. A skilful, experienced man; an adept. (Commonly in a bad sense.) தீர்ந்தவேலை, s. A finished work. பட்டைதீர, inf. To give sides to a gem, to a piece of timber, or to a stone, in cutting or polishing. சாயந்தீர்கிறவன், s. A dyer. நவைதீருமாகமம், s. The faultless Agamas. (p.) தீர, inf. [used adv.] Altogether, entirely, perfectly, absolutely, thoroughly, completely, முழுவதும். தீரப்படித்தவனொருவனுமில்லை. There is none perfect in his studies. தீரமறக்க, inf. To forget entirely, altogether. தீராமை, v. noun. (neg.) That which cannot be obviated. தீராநோய்--தீராவியாதி, s. An incurable disease. தீராப்பழி, s. An unpardonable injury. 2. Implacable enmity. தீராவழக்கு, s. A law-suit or dispute which cannot be settled easily. தீராவழக்குக்குத்தெய்வமேசாட்சி. Moderateness, tolerableness, that which is middling or common-place, மிதம். (c.) 5. (சது.) Toddy, fermented liquor, கள். அம்மட்டு--அம்மட்டும்--அந்தமட்டும். So much, so far. எம்மட்டு-எம்மட்டும்--எந்தமட்டும். How much, how far? என்மட்டிலேநானிருக்கிறேன். I am for myself. மட்டறிய--மட்டிட, inf. To guess, to make an estimate, மதிப்பிட. 2. To bear in mind so as to recognize, or identify; to know well, பழகியறிய. 3. To liken, compare with, ஒப்பிட. 4. To bind, stint, limit, அளவேற்படுத்த. மட்டாய், adv. Moderately, temperately. 2. Passably, tolerably. 3. As much as is needed. 4. Sparingly, parsimoniously, frugally. மட்டாய்ச்செலவிடு. Be frugal. மட்டாயெடு. Take what will answer the purpose. பேதிமட்டாய்நடக்கிறது. Cholera-cases are few. மட்டானவன், appel. n. A man of ordinary appearance, rank or abilities; one of middle size. 2. A man rather below the common standard, in rank, &c., தாழ்ந்தவன். மட்டிட்டிருக்க, inf. To be limited. மட்டில்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Immensity. 2. Extravagance. 3. Illimitability. மட்டுக்கட்ட, inf. To form a judgment from appearances, to know by observation, நிதானிக்க. 2. To recognize, to identify, அறிந்துகொள்ள. 3. To infer, மதி க்க. 4. To comprehend, தெரிய. 5. To make an estimate, மதிப்புச்செய்ய. 6. To stint, to limit. 7. To hinder, தடுக்க. மட்டுக்கு. To the extent required, to a certain extent, to a limited extent, sparingly. மட்டுக்குறித்தல், v. noun. Fixing a limit, determining an extent. மட்டுக்குமட்டு, s. In proportion to the time, number, want, &c., சரிக்குச்சரி. 2. A due or equal proportion. 3. To be excessive. மட்டுக்கும், adv. So much, so far. மட்டுக்கோல், s. A measuring rod, as மட்டக்கோல். (R.) மட்டுத்தப்ப, inf. To miss an aim, take the wrong direction, இலக்குத்தவற. 2. To exceed propriety, to behave or speak disrespectfully or impolitely, மரியாதைத வற. 3. To live extravagantly, அளவுகட க்க. 4. To act conceitedly; to assume airs, மிதமிஞ்ச. மட்டுத்தப்பானபேச்சு. To limit, restrain. 2. To weigh one's character, குணத்தைநிறுக்க. 3. To bring to a settlement, to balance affairs, முடிவுகட்ட. மட்டுப்பட, inf. To be measured, guaged. 2. To be limited, circumscribed, restrained, curbed, confined. 3. To be comprehended, understood. 4. To decrease, to grow less. மட்டுப்படுத்த--மட்டுப்பண்ண, inf. mīḷu (p. 355) --மீள், கிறேன், மீண்டேன, வேன், மீள, v. n. To turn, take a turn, திரும்ப. 2. To be cured, rescued, redeemed, liberated, இரட்சிக்கப்பட. (c.) பாம்புகடித்துமீளுகிறது. The bite of the snake is cured. வியாதிமீளாது. The disease is incurable. மீளாநரகத்திற்காளாவாய். May you go to an interminable hell; [a curse.] மீண்டுவர, inf. To return safely. போனால்மீண்டுவரமாட்டாய். If you go (there) you will not return in safety. மீள--மீளவும்--மீண்டும், adv. Again, furthermore, மறுபடியும். மீளாக்கதி--மீளாமோட்சம், s. muri (p. 358) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. [also முறி.] To break off, to snap off, ஒடிய. (c.) 2. To perish, to be ruined, கெட. (சது.) முரிகிரந்தி--முறிகிரந்தி, s. A disease for which the prescribed diet has not been observed; deemed incurable. முரிகிரந்திப்படுகிறது. Growing worse, as a venereal disease, by neglect of the prescribed diet. முரிவு, v. noun. A breach per se, முறிவு. 3)

muṟṟu (p. 359) கிறேன், முற்றினேன், வேன், முற்ற, v. n. To become mature, to ripen, முதிர. 2. To become hard, solid, வயிரங்கொள்ள. [improp. முத்து.] (c.) 3. To be finished, completed, முடிய. 4. v. a. To complete, to finish, முடிக்க. 5. To blockade, to shut up a port, வளைக்க. (p.) காய்முற்றிப்போயிற்று. The fruit is ripe. காரியமுற்றிப்போயிற்று. The matter has become aggravated. வியாதிமுற்றிப்போனது. The disease is incurable. முற்ற, inf. [as adv. vul. முட்ட.] Entirely, fully, முடிய. முற்றநனைந்தவனுக்கீரமில்லை. There is no wetting him who is well drenched. வழிமுற்றஎன்கூடவந்தான். The letter உ in its full quantity, unabbreviated உ--as distinct from குற்றுகரம், as கடு poison, கதவு, door, and not as in மதகு, sluice, உதடு, lip, &c. முற்றியைபு, s. Rhyming in the last letter in all the feet. See தொடை. முற்றிழை, s. A lady completely adorned. முற்றிழாய். O thou who hast adorned thyself with perfect jewels. (p.) முற்றுகை, v. noun. [com. முற்றிக்கை.] Straitness, distress, want, [vul. முட்டு கை.] 2. [vul. முத்திக்கை.] Blockade, seige. சாப்பாட்டுக்கெனக்குமெத்தமுற்றிக்கையாயிருக்கி றது. I am in-great distress for want of food. பட்டணத்தைமுற்றிக்கைபோட்டார்கள். They beseiged the town. முற்றும், A finite verb, வினைமுற்று, as முடியும். 2. [substantively.] The end, finis, the end of a book, கடை. ஒருநாள்முற்றும்என்னசெய்தாய். What have you been doing a whole day. முற்றல், v. noun.
