ūtu (p. 69) கிறேன், ஊதினேன், வேன், ஊத, v. a. To blow--as with the mouth, to blow the fire, to puff and blow--as with hard labor, வாயாலூத. 2. To blow a musical instrument--as a trumpet, துளைக்கருவியி சைக்க. 3. To blow with a bellows, a blowpipe, &c., துருத்திமுதலியவற்றாலூத. 4. To gnaw or bore holes--as a beetle, to injure--as a moth, வண்டுமுதலியவூத. 5. v. n. To be puffed up with wind, to be inflated, வீங்க. 6. To be bloated, swollen--as the belly after eating, to swell or puff up--as a corpse, or carcass in water, &c., சரீரம்வீங்க. 7. To blow softly--as wind, காற்றுநொய்தாய்வீச. 8. To blow--as bees, beetles, &c., in getting out honey from flowers, வண்டிரைய. அவன்முகம்ஊதிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. His face is swollen. உடலூதியிருக்கின்றது. The stomach is puffed up with wind. ஊதிடுகொம்பு--ஊதுகொம்பு, s. A horn used as a trumpet. ஊதிப்பார்க்க, inf. To try a windinstrument. 2. To attempt a cure by enchantment consisting in part of blowing into the patient's body. ஊதிப்போக, inf. To be puffed up. ஊதிப்போட--ஊதிவிட, inf. To blow away, blow out, extinguish. ஊதினபொன், s. Refined gold, gold refined in the fire. வண்டூதினபுடைவை, s. A garment injured by insects, moths. வண்டூதினமரம், s. A timber or beam gnawed or pierced by beetles. வண்டூதினவோலை, s. An ola book, &c., eaten by insects. அந்தூதினநெல், s. Insect-eaten rice. ஊதுகட்டி, s. [vul.] Silver of the purest kind, சொக்கவெள்ளி. ஊதுகரப்பன், s. A kind of disease resulting from bad humors in the system and attended with eruptions. ஊதுகாமாலை, s. A kind of jaundice in which the body swells. ஊதுகுழல், s. A pipe, a gold smith's blow-pipe. ஊதுமா, s. A kind of hastypudding. ஊதுமாந்தம், s. A disease of children, ஓர்நோய். ஊதுமுகம், s. A bloated face. ஊதுவழலை, s. A kind of snake. ஊதுவிரியன்--ஊதுபாம்பு, s. kāṭi (p. 103) s. Vinegar, புளித்தநீர். 2. Liquids soured by keeping, புளித்தகள். 3. Rice gruel, கஞ்சி. 4. (For.) A trench, ditch, தோண்டுகால். 5. (For.) A cart with a pyramidal top, ஓர்வகைவண்டி. 6. (p.) Ghee, நெய். 7. Pickle, ஊறுகாய். (சது.) காடியாகப்புளித்துப்போயிற்று. The congee, whey, &c., is become as sour as vinegar. காடிக்கூழ், s. Sour pap. காடிச்சோறு, s. Rice taken out of the sour கஞ்சி. காடியாய்த்தோண்ட--காடிவெட்ட, inf. To scoop, to cut into hollowness or depth. ஆறுமாதக்காடி, s. Water in which rice has been washed and various ingredients mixed with it, kept six months, to be used medicinally for jaundice, incipient dropsy, &c. கள்ளுக்காடி, s. Toddy vinegar, sour toddy. பனங்காடி, s. [prov.]. The water in which palmyra stones are steeped and left to become sour, for fermenting the pulp of the fruit next day. சரகாடி, s. kāmālai (p. 104) --காமாளை, s. A disease characterized by bloatedness of the system, paleness of the skin, general languor, and loss of appetite; jaundice, of which there are several varieties-as ஊது-பித்த-மஞ்சள்வறட் காமாலை; which see. காமாலை பிடித்தவன், s. One who has the jaundice. 70)

kuḷukuḷukk (p. 131) inf. v. n. [vul.] To become pale, sallow, wan and bloated--as in jaundice, &c.; to become weak through a morbid state of body, சோகைபற்ற. 2. [prov.] To become rotten, putrid--as fruits, அழுகிப்போக. அவன்முகங்குளுகுளுத்திருக்கிறது. His face is swollen. குளுகுளுப்பை, v. noun. The state of being pale and bloated in countenance; a kind of jaundice, ஓர்நோய். 13)

kuẕmpu (p. 128) s. Mixture; a liquid of a thick consistency--as jelly, porridge, &c., குழம்ப லானபதார்த்தம். 2. Mud, slime; macerated earth, குழைசேறு. 3. Thick gruel, pap, ஆணம். குழம்புக்கறி--குழம்பற்கறி, s. Thick curry. குழம்புப்பால், s. Milk, well thickened by boiling, திரட்டுப்பால். குழம்புவைக்க, inf. to make thick curry. 2. A thick, medicinal liquid, the chief ingredient of which is சேங்கொட்டை. தயிர்க்குழம்பு, s. A thick medicine, made chiefly of curds--good against jaundice. தோஷாமிர்தக்குழம்பு, s. An electuary for தோஷம். நீற்றுப்பூசுணிக்காய்க்குழம்பு, s. A thick mixture, the principal ingredient of which is நீற்றுப்பூசணி--used for caughs, &c. பரிமளக்குழம்பு, s. A fragrant mixture. 20)

cōkai (p. 212) s. Incipient jaundice with paleness and bloating of the face, &c., ஓர் வியாதி, Leucophlegmatia. 2. (fig.) An impotent person, அப்பிராணி. (c.) சோகைக்கொண்டவன்--சோகையுள்ளவன், appel. n. A person with jaundice. சோகைபற்ற, inf. To have the jaundice. சோகைமுகம், s. A face swollen with jaundice. பித்தசோகை, s. Jaundice connected with bile and heat. See பித்தம். 33)

pāṇṭu (p. 310) s. Whiteness, paleness, வெண் மை. 2. A kind of chronic jaundice, causing paleness and bloatedness of the body, ஓர்நோய். 3. A sovereign of ancient Delhi, the nominal father of the five Pandava princes, being a white man, பாண்டவர்தந் தை. W. p. 523. PAN'DU. பாண்டவர், s. [pl.] The five Pandava princes, famous in the B'harata, பாண்டு புத்திரர்; also பஞ்சபாண்டவர். பாண்டவர்முன்பிறந்தோன், appel. n. Karna as the elder brother of the Pandavas, by the same mother, கன் னன். (சது.) பாண்டுமைந்தர், s. [pl.] The Pandava princes, as reputed sons of பாண்டு. பாண்டுரோகம்--பாண்டுவியாதி, s. The பாண்டு jaundice. 10) *

pittam (p. 315) Bile, gall, bilious humor, முப்பிணியிலொன்று W. p. 356. PITTA. 2. Aberration of the senses, bewilderment, delirium, மயக்கம். 3. A variety of dance, கூத்தின்விகற்பம்.-- Of bile are அருசிப்பித்தம், aversion to food, &c.; இரத்தபித்தம், that which causes the spitting of blood; வறட் சிப்பித்தம், dryness of humors; கரும்பித்தம், black bile. பித்தஉபரி, s. As பித்தாதிகாரம்; used in the south. பித்தகாங்கை--பித்தகாரகம்--பித்தச்சூடு, s. Heat caused by bile. பித்தகாசம், s. A kind of bilious disease, causing great irritation. See காசம். பித்தகாமாலை, s. Jaundice from excess of bile. பித்தகாலம், s. The middle stage of life, when the bilious humor is supposed to be predominant from the age of 33 1/3 to 66 2/3. 2. The second and third of the twelve hours, both by day and night. பித்தகுணம், s. Delirium, slight derangement. பித்தகுன்மம், s. Dispepsia, disease in the stomach from excess of bile. See குன்மம். பித்தக்காய்ச்சல், s. As பித்தசுரம். பித்தக்கிராணி--பித்தகிராணி, s. A looseness of the bowels. See under கிரணி. பித்தக்கிறுகிறுப்பு--பித்தகிறுகிறுப்பு. v. noun. Giddiness in the head, from bilious affections. பித்தக்கொதி, s. [prov.] Feverish state of the system from derangement of the bilious humor. பித்தசரீரம், s. An emaciated body from excess of bile, a bilious temperament. See சரீரம். பித்தசிலேட்டுமம்--பித்தசிலேற்பனம், s. A temperament of body in which bilious and phlegmatic humors prevail. பித்தசுரம், s. Bilious fever. பித்தசூலை, s. Arthritic diseases from bilious humors. See சூலை. பித்தசோகை, s. A bilious heat, Leucophlegmatis, a kind of jaundice. பித்தச்சுழற்சி, s. As பித்தக்கிறுகிறுப்பு. பித்தச்சூடு, s. As பித்தகாங்கை. பித்ததிகாரம்--பித்தாதிகாரம்-பித்தாதிக் கம், s. Preponderance of bile in the system, பித்தஅதிகரிப்பு. பித்தத்தின்வீடு, s. The stomach. (R.) பித்தநாடி, s. The bilious pulse, as felt by the middle finger. See நாடி. பித்தநீர், s. Bilious humor. பித்தபாண்டு--பித்தபாண்டுரு, s. A sallow kind of jaundice, inducing great languor. பித்தமயக்கம், s. Delirium. 2. Giddiness, dizziness. பித்தமிறக்க, inf. [intrans. பித்தமிறங்க.] To reduce bile in the system. See இறக்கு. பித்தமெடுக்க, inf. To cast up bile. பித்தம்பிடித்தவன், appel. n. A deranged person, as பித்தன். பித்தரோகம், s. Bilious disease. பித்தவாயு, s. Wind in the body from heat. பித்தவெடிப்பு, v. noun. A chapping of the hands and feet. பித்தவெறி, s. Intoxication, phrensy. பித்தன், s. [fem. பித்தி, pl. பித்தர், பித்தர்கள்.] a crazy man, a mad man, an idiot. See திரவியம். 2. Siva, as eating intoxicating drugs and dancing with devils, சிவன். 3. Bhairava, வயிரவன். 4. mñcḷ (p. 339) s. Indian saffron, long-rooted turmeric, அரித்திரம், Curcuma longa.--Ofturmeric are different kinds, as கஸ்தூரிமஞ்சள், Amomum, L; கப்புமஞ்சள், கொச்சிமஞ்சள், a superior kind from Cochin; கறிமஞ்சள், another kind used for curries; கிழங்குமஞ்சள், turmeric with round roots; விரலிமஞ்சள், that with slender roots; மரமஞ்சள், a tree and its root so called, very bitter, and medicinal. See திரிமஞ்சள். (c.) மஞ்சட்பாவாடைபோர்த்துக்கொள்ளுகிறது. Putting on a saffron-colored cloth, a religious ceremony. மஞ்சட்கடம்பு, s. A tree, Nanclea cordifolia. மஞ்சட்கரு, s. The yolk of an egg. See கரு. மஞ்சட்கல், s. A kind of mineral. See கொடுங்கோபிச்சிலை. மஞ்சட்காப்பு, s. A spot of turmeric paste on the forehead, a charm. 2. See under, கா, v. மஞ்சட்காமாலை, s. A kind of jaundice, causing yellowness of the eyes. மஞ்சட்காளான், s. A yellow kind of mushroom. மஞ்சட்கொத்து, s. A bunch of turmeric-root, and leaves. மஞ்சட்சாமந்தி--மஞ்சட்செவ்வந்தி, s. A species of சாமந்தி with yellow flowers. மஞ்சட்டிரளை, s. Balls of turmeric taken by a widow to the funeral pile and given to relations, in token of her blessing; [ex திரளை.] மஞ்சட்டுணி, s. [vul. மஞ்சத்துணி.] A little piece of cloth dipped in turmeric water and applied to a sore eye. மஞ்சட்டேறு, s. A root of turmeric. See தேறு. மஞ்சட்பட்டு, s. Saffron-colored silk. மஞ்சட்பாவட்டை, s. A shrub, Red dye-root, Morinda citrifolia. மஞ்சணத்தி--மஞ்சணாற்றி, s. A kind of tree. See மஞ்சணுணா. மஞ்சணிறம், s. Yellow color. மஞ்சணீர், s. Turmeric-water with other ingredients for sprinkling on a company at the close of a temple-festival, or marriage; [ex நீர்.] மஞ்சணீர்குடித்தல், v. noun. Drinking turmeric water, in adopting a child. மஞ்சணீர்ச்சீட்டு, s. A written agreement of adoption. தத்தபுத்திரஉடன்படிக்கை. மஞ்சணீர்ப்பிள்ளை, s. An adopted child. மஞ்சணீர்விளையாட்டு--மஞ்சள்விளையா ட்டு, s. Play with turmeric-water, at the close of a temple-festival, or at a marriage.--Note. Lime is often added to heighten the color, and cause mischief. மஞ்சணுணா--மஞ்சணத்தி--மஞ்சணாற்றி, s. A kind of நுணா tree, the timber of which is a bright yellow. மஞ்சணை, s. [contr. of மஞ்சள்நெய்.] Red paint with oil smeared by females, எண்ணெய்க்குங்குமம். [Southern usage.] மஞ்சளலரி, s. A species of அலரி. மஞ்சளாலாத்தி, s. The ceremony of waving turmeric-water about an idol, to dispel the blight of unlucky eyes. மஞ்சளிளங்கலையன், s. [prov.] A kind of rice. See இளங்கலையன். மஞ்சளெண்ணெய், s. Turmeric-oil, used medicinally. மஞ்சள்பூசுதல், inf. [v. noun மஞ்சட்பூ ச்சு.] To smear the person with turmeric water--as females, for beauty or good luck. மஞ்சள்மந்தாரை, s. A மந்தாரை shrub. மஞ்சள்வசந்தம், s. A joyful ceremony, in which turmeric is used, ஓர்சடங்கு. மஞ்சள்வாடை, s. Scent of turmeric at the house of a lying-in-woman, where, to avoid abortion, one pregnant should not come. மஞ்சள்வெயில், s. Bright yellow sunshine cast on objects, just before sunsetting, &c. 45) *

vṟḷu (p. 380) --வறள், கிறேன், வறண்டேன், வேன், வறள, v. n. [sometimes வறல்.] To grow dry, to grow very lean, வறக்க. (c.) அவனுக்குநாவறண்டுபோயிற்று. He has dryness of the tongue. வறட்காமாலை, s. A kind of jaundice. வறட்காய்ச்சல், s. Burning fever. வறட்சி, v. noun. [improp. வரட்சி.] Drought, dryness, heat of the body. வறட்சியெடுத்தது. The body is covered with eruptions. (R.) வறட்சுண்டி, s. A species of sensitive plant, Mimosa triquetra. வறட்பூலா--வறட்பூல், s. A shrub. See பூலா. வறண்டநிலம், s. A dry field. வறளாரை, s. A plant. See ஆரை. வறளி, s. Dry cow-dung for fuel, as வறட்டி. வறள்முள்ளி, s. [com. வறமுள்ளி.] A medicinal thorn-bush. See முள்ளி. 16)
