kilukilukk (p. 111) inf. To rattle; to make a tinkling, crackling sound; to ring, கிலுகி லென்றொலிக்க. கிலுகிலுப்பை, s. The name of a plant whose seeds rattle in the legumen, when ripe and dry, ஓர்செடி, Crotolaria labumifolia, L. 2. A kind of child's rattle, ஓர் விளையாட்டுக்கருவி. கிலுகிலுப்பைக்குட்டான், s. [prov.] A child's basket-rattle. வட்டக்கிலுகிலுப்பை--வெள்ளைக்கிலுகிலு ப்பை, s. A species of the கிலுகிலுப்பை plant, Crotolaria verrucosa. கிலுகிலெனல், v. noun. Rattling--as seed, &c., ஒலிக்குறிப்பு. 2. Sounding, buzzing--as flies swarming; swarming, collecting thick together--as maggots in a sore, crawling one over another, &c., தேனீமுதலியமூசல். ஈசல் கிலுகிலென்றெழும்புகின்றது. The winged white-ants are swarming, and flying up with a buzz. சனங்கள் கிலுகிலென்றுவந்துவிழுந்தார்கள். The people thronged or flocked rapidly one after another. 28)

kuruttu (p. 126) s. The white, tender leaves of a palm or plantain tree, recently shot forth, ஓலைமுதலியவற்றின்குருத்து. 2. The tender leaves or shoots of grain and of leguminous plants, &c., முளை. 3. Tenderness, இளமை. 4. White, வெண்மை. 5. The tender, delicate part of the internal ear, காதுக்குருத்து. குருத்தடைக்க, inf. To be stinted--as grain, putting forth no new leaves. குருத்துக்கக்க, inf. [prov.] To part from the roots and perish--as tender shoots of grain by early flooding. குருத்துவிட--குருத்தெறிய, inf. To put forth young, tender leaves--as palms, plantain trees, rice, &c., to sprout, to shoot. குருத்திறகு, s. Down; soft feathers. குருத்தோலை, s. A young, tender palm leaf, ஓலைக்குருத்து. குருத்தோலைப்பெருநாள், [in Roman Catholic usage.] Palm Sunday, when each attendant at church receives a palm leaf, in the form of a cross, which has been blessed by the priest, ஓர்திருநாள். 10)

nāy (p. 274) s. A dog, ஞமலி, 2. The sign of the regent of the south-west, நிருதியின்குறி. 3. Conical pieces in the play of chess or ticklack, சூதாடுகருவி.--Of நாய், there are கடல்நாய், a seal; மரநாய், palmyra dog; நீர்நாய், மீனாய், a beaver; செந்நாய், a wild dog, கோ ணாய் or கோநாய், a wolf, (c.) நாயும்பேயுங்கொண்டுபோகின்றன. Dogs and devils (strangers) carry it away. நாய்க்குமுழுத்தேங்காய்தக்குமா. Of what use to the dog is an unbroken cocoanut? நாய்வேஷம்போட்டால்குலைத்தேதீரவேணும். If one disguise himsel as a dog he should bark. நாயரஞ்சி, s. As நாயுருவி. (R.) நாயாட்டம், Dog-like, mean, servile. நாயீ, s. A dog fly; [ex இ. நாயுணி, s. A kind of tick. நாயும்புலியும், s. A kind of play, with seeds, stones, &c., in squares. நாயுருவி, s. [sometimes நாய்குருவி.] A kind of plant, Achyranthes aspera, L. which forms one of the nine kinds of sacrificial fuel. See சமித்து.-- The root is used as a dentifrice, and from the skin of the root, a decoction is made as an aperient for infants. The leaves are bruised and applied to scorpion bites as a specific; [ex உருவி, penetrating as a biting dog.] There are two kinds, செந் நாயுருவி, the red, and வெண்ணாயுருவி, the white, which see. நாயுறக்கம், s. Very slight sleep, as of a dog. நாயோட்டம், s. A dog's pace, spoken of a horse, dhoney, &c. நாய்குருவி, s. As நாயுருவி. (R.) நாய்க்கடி, s. Bite of a dog. நாய்கடிபூனைக்கடிபடுகிறார்கள். They are snaring like cats and dogs. நாய்க்கடுகு, s. A small plant like mustard, as நாய்வேளை. நாய்க்குட்டி, s. A young dog, a puppy. நாய்க்குணம்--நாய்த்தனம், s. Doggedness. See குணம். நாய்க்கோலம், s. Mean appearance, shabiness of dress, &c. நாய்ச்சீரகம், s. A plat. See சீரகம். நாய்த்திசை, s. South-west. See திக்கு. நாய்த்துளசி, s. A kind of wild Marjoram. See கஞ்சாங்கோரை. நாய்வேளை, S. A plant, as நாய்க்கடுகு, Cleome viscosa, L. See நல்வேளை. நாய்நரம்பு, s. [prov.] A kind of catgut put round the neck of children for whooping cough. நாய்நாக்கி, s. A species of Euphorbia neriifolia, as இலைக்கள்ளி. நாய்ப்பயறு, s. A leguminous plant, Indigofera glabra, L. நாய்ப்பாகல், s. A medicinal plant of the Senna species, Bryonia maysorensis. (R.) நாய்ப்புடுக்கன், s. A large tree, Cynometra cauliflora, ஓர்மரம். நாய்ப்புடோல், s. A plant, ஓர்செடி. நாய்முகன், s. One who has a face like a dog. See நாய்மூஞ்சி. நாய்முருகை, s. [prov.] A kind of coral stone, ஓர்முருகைக்கல். நாய்முள்ளி, s. A thorny plant, Solanum, Ind. நாய்மூஞ்சி, s. The face of a dog. 2. As நாய்முகன். நாய்விட்டைக்கல், s. [prov.] A kind of stone, ஓர்வகைச்சுண்ணாம்புக்கல். நாய்வெள்ளை, s. Brown or whitish brown, as some cows. நாய்வேம்பு, s. A plant, Indigofera viscosa, ஓர்செடி. 15)

pyṟu (p. 295) s. [gem. பயற்றின்.], Pulse, lentil, beans of several kinds முற்கம். See நவதா னியம். (c.) 2. The fourteenth lunar asterism, சித்திரைநாள்--Note. Of பயறு, are எலிப் பயறு, நரிப்பயறு, or பனிப்பயறு, a wild kind, Phaseolus. trilobates. See நரி; கறுப்புப்பயறு, Phaseolus mux; சடைப்பயறு, a large kidney bean, Dolichos; சிறுபயறு, பச்சைப்பயறு. பாசிப் பயறு, green gram, Phaseolus mungu; தட் டைப்பயறு; a kind of pulse; துலுக்கப்பயறு, கன்னிப்பயறு, Phaseolus aconitifolius; பெரும் பயறு, another variety; மின்னிப்பயறு, a leguminious plant. பயறுவிதைக்கிறான். He is telling lies. பயற்றங்காய், s. Pulse in pod used for curry. 2. A kidney bean, Dolichos Tranquebaricus. பயற்றங்கொடி, s. A running kind of பயறு. பயற்றநெற்று, s. Ripe pulse pods. See நெற்று. பயற்றுமி--பயற்றமோடு, s. Husk of pulse. பயற்றம்பணிகாரம், s. Cakes with pulse inside. பயற்றம்பருப்பு, s. Split kernels of pulse. பயற்றுண்டை, s. Balls of mashed pulse, mixed with jaggery.

miṉṉi (p. 355) --மின்னிப்பயறு, s. A leguminous plant, ஓர்பயறு. மீகாமனில்லாமரக்கலமோடாது. The ship sails not without a master. (Avv.) 35)

murungkai (p. 358) s. The Muringa tree, Hyperanthera Moringa; called horse-radishtree. ஓர்மரம். (c.)--Note. For different kinds of முருங்கை, see காட்டுமுருங்கை, செம்மு ருங்கை, தவசுமுருங்கை, புனல்முருங்கை. முருங்கைக்காய், s. The unripe edible legume. முருங்கைக்காய்என்றால்பத்தியமுறிந்துபோகுமா.... Will the regimen be violated by simply uttering முருங்கைக்காய்?--as, words break no bones. முருங்கைக்கீரை, s. Its leaves, which are boiled as pot-herbs. முருங்கைப்பட்டை, s. Its bark used medicinally. முருங்கைப்பூ, s. Its flowers, boiled with முருங்கைக்கீரை. முருங்கைவேர், s. The pungent root of this tree, used as a substitute for horse-radish, giving that name to the tree. நான்பிடித்ததுமுருங்கைக்கொம்பல்லபுளியங்கொம் பு. What I grasp is not a stick of the Muringa, but a branch of the Tamarind tree--of varied metaphorical usage. 12)
