uṇmai (p. 59) s. Being, existence, entity, (opposed to இன்மை) உள்ளது. 2. Natural or intrinsic quality, essense, nature, இயல்பு. (p.) 3. Sincerity, honesty, probity, fidelity, uprightness, faithfulness, veracity, reality, fact, யதார்த்தம். 4. Certainty, ascertainment, மெய். 5. Oath, abjuration, சத்தி யம். 6. (p.) Destiny or entailment of actions issuing in joys and sorrows, ஊழ். 7. Wisdom, right knowledge, அறிவு. உண்மையானுண்டிவ்வுலகு. By the existence (of kindness, favor, politeness) the world is sustained. (குறள்.) நீயதற்குண்மைபண்ணிக்கொடுப்பாயா? Will you swear to it? உண்மைகண்டவன். One who has experienced the truth (of a religion). உண்மைத்தவறு, s. Falsification, உண்மைவழு. 2. The real object, scope or design, யதார்த்தமானகருத்து. உண்மைத்துரோகம்--உண்மைப்பா தகம், s. A very flagrant breach of truth, flagitious crime of the guilt thus incurred, நம்பிக்கைத்துரோகம். உண்மைப்பட, inf. To become evident to the mind--as the deity to his worshippers, மெய்ப்பட. 2. To prove true --as religion, by means of the Shasters, arguments, miracles, &c., மெய்யாக. 3. To appear as a certainty to the exclusion of all doubt, hesitation, &c., நிச்சயப் பட. உண்மைப்படுத்த, inf. To prove or show to be true, மெய்ப்பிக்க. உண்மைப்பிடி, s. Tenacious adherence to a religion from a discovery of its truth. 2. Consistent and steady perseverance in religion. உண்மைப்பேதகம், s. [in logic.] Ascertainment of a thing from the attributes or qualities affirmed of it--as when we hear that a stone attracts iron, we know that it is a magnet, பிரத்தியட்சப் பிரமாணம். உண்மையறிந்தவன், s. One who has discovered the reality, authenticity, mysteries, &c. of religion. 2. One who has experienced the truth, &c. of religion. உண்மையானதெய்வம், s. The true deity. உண்மையானவன், s. A man sincere in religion. 2. A man of probity. உண்மையுவமை, [in rhetoric.] A figure in which the simile is rejected, the reality being ascertained, மெய்யுவமை. 130) *
காரணம்
kārṇm (p. 104) s. Cause, origin, source, தோற்றத்துக்கு மூலம். 2. Principle, essential element, மூலம். 3. Instrument or means, கருவி. 4. [in logic.] Cause, reason, the ground of an assertion or argument, ஏது. occasion, நோக்கம். Wils. p. 213. KARANA. 6. One of the twenty-eight Agamas, ஆகமம் இருபத்தெட்டிலொன்று. According to the Hindu Philosophy, காரணம் is three fold, viz.: முத ற்காரணம், துணைக்காரணம், நிமித்தகாரணம், முத ற்காரணம், material, proximate cause--as clay from which pottery is made, or the primitive Maya out of which the universe was produced. துணைக்காரணம், secondary, instrumental, or co-efficient cause--as the wheel used by a potter, or the Sakti (energy) of the god Siva. நிமித்தகாரணம், the efficient cause or the agent--as the potter, in the manufacture of wares, or the god Siva in the production of worlds. சர்வத்துக்குமாதிகாரணமானவர். The first cause or creator of all things. காரணகர்த்தா--காரணகடவுள் s. The Supreme Being--the Chief Agent in all things, முதற்கடவுள். 2. Any supposed miracle-working deity, அற்புத கடவுள். காரணகாட்சி, s. Demonstration 'a priori', or from an axiom. Rott. 2. A pleasing and marvellous sight. காரணகாரியம், s. Cause and effect, காரமுங்காரியமும். காரணகுரு, s. A guru whose sole object is the spiritual benefit of his disciples, மெய்க்குரு--opposed to கரியகுரு. காரணக்குறி, s. [in gram.] Derived names or appellatives, as one of the classes of nouns--opposed to இடுகுறி,கார ணப்பெயர். 2. Presage, omen, prognostic, a sign showing beforehand what is to happen, முன்னறிகுறி. காரணங்காட்ட, inf. To affirm a cause, to ascribe or show reasons, ஏதுகாட்ட. காரணகேவலம், s. Absolute unconsciousness of the soul during its involution in காரணமாயை. It is one of the three காரணாவஸ்தை. காரணசகலம், s. Conscious state of the soul during its manifestation in the world, and consequent subjection to births and deaths; one of the three காரணாவஸ்தை. காரணசரீரம், s. The most subtile embryo of the body, as originally and eternally existing with the soul. (See சரீரத்திரயம்.) In the Vedantic philosophy, the original principle of spiritual ignorance, in which the soul is enveloped during the period of its non-absorption in Brahm. காரணசுத்தம், s. Complete liberation from பாசம், and the attainment of perfect purity and happiness; one of the three காரணாவஸ்தை. காரணச்சிறப்புப்பெயர், s. [in grammar.] Derived names limited in their application--as முடி, a crown so called because it is put on முடி, the head, ஒன் றற்குரியகாரணப்்பெயர். காரணச்சொல், s. A story, a narrative, கதை. (p.) 2. A derived word. காரணப்பெயர், s. [in grammar.] Derivative names. காரணப்பொதுப்பெயர், s. [in grammar.] Derived names extending to various classes--as அணி, jewel; so called because it embraces various kinds of jewels, which are worn, பலவற்றிற்குரியகார ணப்பெயர். காரணமாயிருக்க, inf. To be the author of the thing. காரணமாயை, s. Maya as the primitive, original substance from which all the manifestations of matter and spirit are evolved, and into which they are again resolved at the destruction of the universe, அகிலத்துக்கும் வித்தானமாயை. see மாயை. காரணமுகாந்திரம், s. Motive. காரணவணு, s. According to some atheistical schools, primitive or original atoms, by the fortuitous combination of which, the worlds were originated. காரணவாகுபெயர், s. Names in which the cause is, by the way of metonymy, used for the effect--as in திருவாசகம். காரணவிசேஷம், s. Chief or principal things. (p.) காரணவிடுகுறி, s. A name which, though given originally as descriptive of a class of objects, is applied to individuals of the class, though destitute of the qualities which it describes--as மறவன், கறங்கு. காரணவிலக்கணை, s. [in rhetoric.] Metonymy of a cause for the effect. காரணவிலக்கு, s. [in rhetoric.] Negation of effects from the absence of a cause, ஓரலங்காரம். காரணன், s. The first cause, நிமித்தன். 2. The Supreme Being, கடவுள். 3. Any deity supposed to work miracles, அற் புதகடவுள். 4. A king, அரசன். 5. The name of a kind of arsenic, மிரதபாஷாணம். காரணாவத்தை--காரணாவஸ்தை, s. The three principal, causative states or அவத் தை of the soul--கேவலம், சகலம் and சுத்தம், --as distinguished from காரியாவத்தை. காரணானுமானம், s. [in logic.] A priori reasoning; inference from cause to effect --opposed to காரியானுமானம். (சிவ. சி.) மூலகாரணம், s. The primeval cause. மொழிமுதற்காரணம், s. The first principle of a word. காரணி, s. சத்துவம்
cattuvam (p. 159) s. Strength, power, ability, vigor, வலி. 2. Nature, natural quality or disposition, essence, essential principle, சு பாவகுணம். (c.) 3. The first of the three principles in nature, முக்குணத்திலொன்று, 4. Indicative qualities or signs of qualities-as tears to express sorrow, or the erection of the hairs on the body from delight, ஓர்விசேஷகுணம். See குணம். W. p. 885. SATVA. அவ்வளவுசத்துவமுனக்கில்லையோ. Hast thou not so much strength? சத்துவக்குறிவிளக்கம், s. Rhetorical deseription to the life, ஓரலங்காரம். சத்துவங்கெட்டவன், s. An unskillful person. 2. A weak person. (c.) சத்துவகர், s. [in Roman Catholic usage.] Celestials who are gifted with the power of performing miracles being angles of the second order--as சத்திகர். 70)
சித்தர்
cittar (p. 182) s. One of the eighteen classes of supernals, or demigods inhabiting the middle air or region between the earth and the sun, embracing several subdivisions, தேவகணத்தொருதிறத்தோர். 2. A class of magicians who, by the performance of certain mystical and magical rites, have acquired superhuman powers, being able to perform miracles; or one or more of the eight சித்தி, அஷ்டசித்தியடைந் தோர். 3. Ascetics who, by mystical and austere practices, have attained one or all of the five purposes: viz., the affluence, the form, or the society of the supernals, residence in the divine lokas; or identification with the deity, ஞானசித்தியடைந்தோர்; [ex சித்தி, success.] W. p. 924. SID'DHA. சித்தர்கணம், s. The classes of சித்தர். சித்தர்குளிகை, s. A magical pill giving power to fly. See under குளிகை. சித்தர்நூல், s. The science of medicine, வாகடம். 2. (R.) Treatises composed by சித்தர். பாம்பாட்டிச்சித்தர், s. A சித்தன் of note as an author, whose name is derived from playing with a snake. See பாம்பு. பதினெட்டுச்சித்தர், s. The eighteen celebrated சித்தர். நவகோடிசித்தர், s. The nine crores of சித்தர். நவசித்தர், s. The nine principal Siddhars. viz.: சத்தியநாதர், சதோகநாதர், ஆதிநா தர், அநாதிநாதர், வகுளிநாதர், மதங்கநாதர், மச்சேந் திரநாதர், கடேந்திரநாதர், கோரக்கநாதர், which see in their places. 62)
திவ்வியம்
tivviyam (p. 241) s. Divinity, any thing celestial or god-like, தெய்வீகம். 2. Pre-eminence, super-excellence, மேன்மை. W. p. 49. DIVYA. திவ்வியகவி, s. A poet divinely inspired, தெய்வப்புலவன். திவ்வியக்கியானம், s. Divine knowledge. திவ்வியசட்சு, s. As திவ்வியதிருஷ்டி, 1. 2. The office of a seer. திவ்வியதிருஷ்டி, s. The gracious look of a deity or guru, by which sin is dispelled, and grace conferred. 2. Supernatural vision, spiritual sight, as enjoyed at pleasure by the exalted devotee. 3. A prophet. திவ்வியதேகம், s. A divine body. திவ்வியதேசம், s. A place esteemed sacred by Vaishnuvas. திவ்வியபஞ்சாமிர்தம், s. (St.) Five delicacies with which the idols are anointed. See பஞ்சாமிர்தம். திவ்வியபுதுமை, s. A miracle, அற்புதம். திவ்விபூமி, s. Holy land, central India, where religious rites are specially meritorious. 2. Places of pilgrimage. See புண்ணியபூமி. திவ்வியபோதனை, s. Divine teaching. திவ்வியவாக்கு, s. A declaration, or oracle of a deity, or saint. திவ்வியவாசனை--திவ்வியமணம், s. Sweet odors. திவ்வியரசம், s. Quicksilver. (R.) திவ்வியரதம், s. A celestial car. திவ்வியரத்தினம், s. An excellent, precious jewel, a fabulous gem. திவ்வியவருஷம், s. A year of the gods, supposed to be equal to threehundred and sixty-five years of men. திவ்வியாதிவ்வியம், s. Partaking of both natures human and divine. திவ்வியாத்திரம்--திவ்வியாஸ்திரம், s. Weapon received from the gods. திவ்வியாபரணம்.s. Superior ornaments. 2. Ornaments worn by a sacred or royal personage. திவ்வியோதகம், s. Sacred waters; rain; [ex உதகம். 45)

It is sometimes used with words of bad meaning, as பரமசண்டாளன், a vile wretch. See நல். [For most of the compounds, compare திவ்வியம், தேவம், பரம்.] பரமகதி, s. Bliss, as பரகதி. பரமகருத்தன், s. The Supreme Being. பரமகாரியம், s. A divine, spiritual, or heavenly subject. பரமக்கியானம்--பரமஞானம், s. Knowledge of, or acquaintance with, the deity. பரமசண்டாளன், s. A desperate wretch. பரமசத்துரு, s. A great enemy, a chief adversary, கடும்பகைவன். பரமசந்தேகம், s. A great doubt, obscurity. பரமசமாதி, s. As பரமசாந்தி. பரமசாந்தி, s. Divine tranquility of the soul, absorbed in spiritual contemplations and enjoyments, யோகநிலை. பரமசாயுச்சியம், s. Union or identification with the deity, sometimes described as enjoyed even before quitting the body. பரமசித்தி, s. Heavenly bliss, முத்தி. பரமசுந்தரி, s. The goddess of virtue, தருமதேவதை. பரமசைதன்னியம், s. Universal spirit or intelligence, the Supreme Being. பரமதூர்த்தன், s. A capital rake, மிகு துட்டன். பரமநாழிகை, s. The whole period of hours during which a திதி, வாரம், கரணம், யோகம் or நட்சத்திரம் lasts. பரமநிஷ்டை, s. Contemplation on the deity, the mind being entirely set upon பரமநிவர்த்தி, s. Final liberation from anxieties, and secularities, &c., பாச விமோசனம். பரமபதம், s. The heaven of a god, more especially of Vishnu, as bestowed on his followers. பரமபதவாசி, s. An inhabitant of the heavenly place. 2. Vishnu; also Siva. பரமபாகவதசிகாமணி--பரமபாகவதன், s. A superior class of Vaishnuvas. பரமமூர்த்தி, s. The Supreme Being. 2. Vishnu, விஷ்ணு. பரமயோக்கியம், s. Divine excellence as தேவதாயோக்கியம். பரமரகசியம், s. A divine secret or mystery; also used in irony. பரமலுத்தன், s. A great niggard. பரமலோகம், s. A world of bliss. பரமாகாயம், s. The wide expanse of ether, as the abode of deity, or the vacuum of the yogi, பெருவெளி. பரமாங்கிசம், s. A part of divinity; [ex அமிசம்.] 2. [hon. for அங்கிசம்.] A upanishad. பரமாணு, s. An atom, the invisible base of aggregate bodies; In Wils. thirty of them are supposed to form a mote in a sunbeam, பொருண்மூலம். 2. [in modern usage.] Atmosphere, ஆகா யம்.--The atomic bases of the five elements, called பஞ்சபூதஅணு, are பிருதுவிப் பரமாணு, atomic base of earth, being water; 2. அப்புப்பரமாணு, of water, being fire; 3. தேயுப்பரமாணு, atomic base of fire, being air; 4. வாயுப்பரமாணு, of air or wind. being ether; 5. ஆகாயப்பரமாணு, of ether being maya. பரமாத்துமம்--பரமாத்துமா, s. The soul of the universe. 2. The Deity or universal soul, as contrasted with சீவாத் துமா, the human soul. பரமாத்துமன், s. God as the soul of the world, கடவுள். 2. (fig.) A saint, or glorified spirit, சுத்தாத்துமா. பரமாயு--பரமாயுஸ், s. Great age, தீர்க்காயு. 2. Full age according to one's maturity. பரமாபமம், s. The inclination of a planet's orbit to the equator; [ex அபமம்.] பரமார்த்தம், s. Any excellent or important aim, or object, மேலானபொருள். 2. A kind of spiritual knowledge which reveals the vanity and illusion of the world, மெய்ஞ்ஞானம். 3. [com. in irony.] Simplicity. பரமார்த்தகுரு--பரமார்த்தன், s. A simpleton, not experienced in worldly affairs. பரமார்த்தகுருவின்கதை, s. Story of Guru Noodle by Beschi. பரமாற்புதம், s. A divine miracle. பரமானந்தம், s. Spiritual joy, heavenly delight. 2. The Divine Being before his exertion of energy in the work of creation, பிரமம். பரமானந்தர், s. [hon.] Deity in enjoyment with ஆனந்தரூபசத்தி. பரமானம், s. [com. for பரமான்னம்.] பரமானுபவம், s. Experience in spiritual things, acquaintance or communications with the deity. பரமான்மா, s. The Deity as the soul of the universe, as பரமாத்துமா. பரமான்னம், s. Celestial food, rice boiled with milk and sugar for an oblation, பாற்சோறு. பரமேசன்--பரமேசுரன்--பரமேச்சுரன், s. A name of deity, commonly Siva, சிவன். 2. Vishnu, விஷ்ணு. 3. God, கடவுள். W. p. 54.
