appu (p. 18) கிறேன், அப்பினேன், வேன், அப்ப, v. a. To stick or clap on with the hand, as sandal paste, plaster, &c., or with a trowel, as mortar against a wall, சார்த்த. 2. To snatch at, as a dog, கௌவ. 3. To apply in a patting manner, as a lotion, a fomentation, ஒற்ற. 4. [prov.] To beat gently with the hands, as in washing muslin, கும்ம. நாய் அப்பிக்கொண்டுபோய்விட்டது. āvlm (p. 43) s. Noise mae with the mouth in defiance, வாயாலார்த்தல். 2. An enclosed garden, கொல்லை. (சது.) (p.) ஆவலங்கொட்ட, inf. To make a noise with the mouth, patting it at the same time with the hand--a sign of triumph, or defiance feigned to have been the practice of demons, and considered disgraceful to other races, and inauspicious, வாயாலார்த்தாட. upattiravam (p. 61) s. Affliction, tribulation, suffering either of mind or body, வேதனை. 2. Tyranny, oppression, national distress, whether by the seasons, epidemics, famine, the government, &c., கொடு மை. Wils. p. 154. UPADRAVA.--Note. This word is sometimes improperly spelt உபத்திரம். உபத்திரவகாலம், s. A time of distress, calamity. உபத்திரவப்பட, inf. To suffer, be in affliction. உபத்திரவப்படுத்த, inf. To afflict, distress. தேசோபத்திரவம், s. General and national distress. பசியுபத்திரவம், s. The suffering of hunger. வியாதியுபத்திரவம், s. Suffering from disease. மனோபத்திரவம், s. Distress of mind.

தடவு
tṭvu (p. 221) கிறேன், தடவினேன், வேன், தடவ, v. a. and v. n. To stroke, embrace, fondle, to soothe, by patting or stroking, தடவர. 2. To grope, to feel one's way with the hands or feet as in the dark, to feel about, தெரியாமற்தடவ. 3. To anoint--as with liniment, to smear softly, to spread on lightly, எண்ணெய்முதலியதடவ. 4. To bedaub, besmear; to dirty, பூச. 5. To play on a lute with a bow, வீணைவாசிக்க. 6. To measure out very scantily, to strike off the measure too closely, முகந்தளந்துதடவ. 7. (fig.) To sit groping; from great age, blindness, &c. தடவிக்கொண்டுதிரிய, inf. To walk about groping. தடவியளக்க, inf. To measure scantily, with the measure. தட்டித்தடவிவர, inf. To come stumbling and groping. தாடியைத்தடவ, inf. To stroke the chin as supplicating favors. வீடெல்லாந்தடவிப்பார். Search for it all over the house. எல்லாந்தடவிக்கொண்டுபோய்விட்டான். tṭṭl (p. 222) s. [prov. in cant numbers.] Five, ரு, குழுக்குறி. 2. A salver--as தட்டு. 3. v. noun. (c.) Scantiness, rareness, குறைவு. 4. Knocking, patting, தட்டுகை--Used in some of the meanings of தட்டு, v. noun. தட்டற்புலு, s. [prov.] Fifty, ஐம்பது. தட்டல்தடவல், v. noun. Knocking and groping; mean, poor, beggarly, scanty. என்பையிலேதட்டல்தடவலாயிருக்கிறது. There is very little in my purse. 30)
