Round, black spots in fruits, when they are over-ripe, or spoiled. ஆனைக்கண்படுதல்--ஆனைக்கண் வி ழுதல், v. noun. The appearing of spots, or defects in fruits. பலாப்பழமானைக்கண்பட்டுப் போயிற்று. The jack fruit has got a defect or flaw. ஆனைக்கதுப்பு, s. The frontal sinus of the elephant, from which secretion exudes when the animal is in rut. ஆனைக்களிமுளையான், s. The first post of the marriage shed when planted on the fifth day before the marriage, the third, fifth, or seventh day being chosen, as it may be lucky or otherwise, according to astrological calculation, மணப்பந்தரின் ஐந்தாங்கால். ஐந்தானம், s. The fifth lunar asterism, மிருகசீரிடம். (p.) ஐந்திணை, s. The five kinds of land, &c., ஐவகைநிலம். (See திணை.) 2. The closest friendship or love between husbands and wives, அன்புடைக்காமம். kālam (p. 104) s. Time. duration, பொழுது-Note. In Hindu philosophy, காலம் is said by the Saivas to have proceeded from மோகினி Maya, and to be a co-efficient cause with Siva in the acts of creation, preservation and destruction. It is Time personified, and according to the Hindu metaphysicians, one of the seven வித்தியாத் துவம். (சிவ. சி.) 2. Season of the year or life; also a specific time of the day, பருவம். 3. A seasonable or proper time, opportunity, season, சமயம். Wils. p. 216. KALA. 4. Day-break, விடியல். 5. (fig.) (c.) The time appointed for death, as distinguished from that for accident death, முடிவு. 6. [in gram.] Tense; also, the characteristic of a tense, வினையின்காலம். An experienced man; an aged person. காலங்கரந்தபெயரெச்சம், s. [in gram.] A relative participle without the characteristics of the tenses--as in கொல் யானை. காலங்கழிக்க, inf. To pass time கா லம்போக்க. காலங்கழிய, inf. To pass--as time, நாட்கழிய. காலங்கூட, inf. [local.] To die. காலசக்கரம், s. The different number of years of influence ascribed to the respective planets as operative on the lives of persons, ஆயுள்நியதிச்சக்கரம். 2. The aggregate of the years of the nine planets according to their respective influence, கிரகபலச்சக்கரம். 3. Period or term of life, ஆயுட்காலம். Wils. p. 216. KALACHAKRA.. அவனுக்குக்காலச்சக்கரமுடிவுவந்துவிட்டது. The end of his term is come. காலசங்கதி, s. Intelligence, news or events of the time or the day. காலசங்கை, s. Guess of time from mere inspection, காலஉத்தேசம். 2. Reckoning of time, காலக்கணக்கு. (p.) காலசந்தி, s. The daily morning worship; also applicable to that at noon and evening. 2. The interval between any two yugas, kalpas, &c. See கற்பம் and சந்தி. திரிகாலசந்தி, s. Worship in the morning, at noon and in the evening. காலசுகம், s. To pass one's days, to pass one's time, to maintain one's self, to live, காலம்போக்க. காலப்பரிச்சேதம், s. Discernment--as to the time of an event or the existences of a thing. It is one of the three பரிச்சேதம் modes of ascertaining facts. காலபரிபாகம், s. The maturity of the soul, or time for its attaining bliss, having eliminated its good and evil propensities. காலபேதம்--காலவித்தியாசம்--கால வேற்றுமை, s. Difference of time with respect to the changes it produces. காலபோகம், s. A crop of grain or fruits in the proper season. 2. Nouns derived from names of time--as பங்குனன் (one born in the பங்குனி month). காலப்பெயர்ச்சி, s. Change of season or monsoon; unseasonable weather, கால விகற்பம். காலமயக்கம்--காலமயக்கு, s. [in gram.] An improper use of the tenses, காலவழு. 2. An allowed deviation in the use of tenses, காலவழுவமைதி. காலமலைவு, s. Confusion of statement in regard to time--as asserting that the lotus blooms in the evening, or the lily during the day. காலமல்லாக்காலம், s. An unfortunate, fatal time; an unseasonable time, அகாலம். காலமழை, s. Rain in the proper season, பருவத்திற்பெய்யுமழை. காலமறிய, inf. To know the times so as to adapt one's self to them, காலவகைய றிய. 2. Customs of the times. காலவழு, s. [in gram.] An improper use of the tenses--as the past for the future, &c., காலக்குற்றம். காலவாகுபெயர், s. [in gram.] Nouns of time or portions of time, used by metonymy for what is intimately connected with time--as கார்த்திகை, the name of a month, for a plant which mostly blossoms during the month. காலவிடைநிலை, s. [in gram.] Characteristics of tenses, காலத்தைக்காட்டுமிடை நிலை. They are 1. த், ட், ற், and இன் for the past. 2. ஆநின்று, கின்று and கிறு for the present. 3. ப், ல், for the future. There are some other characteristics-as மன், இசின், ய், இ, ன், &c. காலவிரைவு, v. noun. Swiftness or rapid flight of time. காலாகாலம், s. Times seasonable and unseasonable, auspicious and inauspicious, நற்காலந்துர்க்காலம். 2. One time or another, not often, not frequently. (c.) காலாக்கினி, s. The fire which is to destroy the world at the end of the great yuga; a deluge-fire said to be in reserve in the nethermost part of the earth. Wils. p. 218. KALAGNI. 2. One of the two-hundred and twenty-four புவ னம் under the regency of Kálágni. காலாக்கினியுருத்திரம், s. One of the thirty-two உபநிடதம். காலாக்கினியுருத்திரர், s. Rudra or the deity in the lowest region, in charge of the deluge-fire. There are ten subordinate Rudras, who resemble their chief. காலாந்தம், s. The end of time, கால முடிவு; [ex. அந்தம்.] காலாந்தரம், s. Intermediate space of time, process of time, காலநடை. 2. Meanwhile, காலவிடை; [ex அந்தரம், interval.] காலேச்சுரவாதம், s. The metaphysical philosophy which maintains that Time is God. காலோசிதம், s. A fit, proper time, உச் சிதகாலம்; [ex உசிதம்.] அந்தியகாலம், s. The time of death. ஆங்கால மெய்வருந்த வேண்டா வதுதானே தேங்காய்க் கிளநீர்போற் சேருமே, போங்காலம் காட்டானை தின்ற கனியதுபோ லாகுமே தேட்டாளன் றேடுந் தனம். Wealth shall or itself accumulate at the appointed time of increase, as the liquor within a cocoanut, and no toll is required; but at the fixed time for ruin, the riches of a hard-working man shall pass away like the contents of a woodapple eaten by an elephant. எக்காலமும். To place an image of Ganesa (being a handful of moist cow-dung) on the top of a heap of corn before winnowing, as a security from demons.--Note. Turns in watching. காவல்மேரை, s. Share of grain given to the watchman of a village from the thrashing floor. காவல்விட, inf. To release from watching, guarding, &c. காவற்கடவுள்--காவற்பெருமான், s. Vishnu, as the preserver of the world, விஷ்ணு. காவற்கட்டு, s. [prov.] A bundle of paddy sheaves for the watchman. காவற்கட்டை, s. [prov.] A fire-brand kept burning to ward off the female demon கொற்றி from a woman in child-birth, when exposure is greater than at other times. 2. kūttu (p. 134) s. (from Sans. Goorda, play, Wils. p. 239.) Dance, dancing; action, performance; ball, நடனம். 2. Dramatic play, comedy, நாடகம். 3. Dance or sport of the deity--as the creation, preservation, and destruction of the universe are considered by Hindu philosophers, திருக் கூத்து. 4. Expression or exhibition of the feelings of the soul in its conscious states, as manifested in the actions and organic functions of the body, according to Hindu psychologists, ஆத்துமசேட்டை. 5. Frolicking, leaping and frisking about, like young boys and girls, விளையாட்டு. 6. Display, pomp, parade, &c.--as viewed by ascetics, பிரபஞ்சநடிப்பு. 7. A strange event or phenomenon, நூதனசெய்கை. 8. Presumption, assumption, vanity--as of young persons--one new in office, &c., spoken in contempt, கோலாகலம். 9. A droll or ludicrous action or performance--as a pantomime, &c., பரிகாசக்கூத்து. 1. (fig. little used.) The instigating or moving cause of an action, தூண்டுகாரணம். கூத்துக்குமீசைசிரைக்கவா. Why shave off the mustaches for mere play; i. e. why do a thing without an object? ஏதேனுங்கூத்துநடக்கும். [prov.] Some disastrous event will happen--said after a bad omen. நாலுநாட்கூத்து. A four day's dance-spoken of worldly prosperity, elevation to office, &c. கூத்தன், s. Dancer, actor, performer, comedian, &c., நாடகன். 2. Soul, life, spirit--as the directing cause of the various corporeal functions and actions, உயிர், ஆத்துமா. (நாலடி.) 3. The deity--as the operating cause in the universe, கட வுள். (p.) கூத்தாட, inf. To dance or play, to exhibit pranks, to take a part in play, நடனஞ்செய்ய. 2. To persist in an improper request, &c., சோலிபண்ண. 3. To be elated by promotion, wealth, &c.; to assume too much, &c., பெருமைகாட்ட. 4. (little used.) To act merely for form's sake, in religion, civilities, mourning, &c., ஒப்புக்குச்செய்ய. கூத்தாடி, s. (fem. கூத்தாடிச்சி.) A dancer, player, an actor, a comedian, நடன். 2. A pole-dancer, கழைக்கூத்தன். கூத்தாட்டு--கூத்தாட்டம், v. noun. Dancing, acting, playing, &c., நடிப்பு. கூத்தாட்டுச்சிலம்பம் படைவெட்டுக்குதவாது. The fencing of the actor will not do in battle. கூத்தி--கூத்திச்சி, s. A female actor or dancer; a dancing girl, நாடகப்பெண். 2. A courtezan, a strumpet, a prostitute, வேசி. 3. A concubine, கூத்தியார். கூத்துக்களரி, s. The area or hall for play; a ball room; a theatre; a circus, &c., நடனசாலை. கூத்துக்காரன், s. (fem. கூத்துக்காரி.) An actor, a dancer, கூத்தாடுவோன். 2. A dancing master, கூத்தாட்டுவோன். 3. A buffoon; a ludicrous, comical person; a mimie, விகடக்காரன். கூத்துப்பயிலிடம், s. A dancing school; a place where dancing is practised. கூத்துப்பாட்டு, s. Dancing tunes, and songs. கூத்துவகை--கூத்தின்விகற்பம், s. The two divisions of dancing, commonly by woman. 1. தேசிகம், modes of dancing in different countries. 2. மார்க்கம், modes of dancing--as laid down in the shastras. கூத்துப்பண்ண, inf. To make fun, sport, &c. 2. To do a droll, funny, action. 3. To confound; to derange. கூத்துவிட, inf. To introduce the actors in a play. 2. Those regarding the body or சத்தாங் கோபகராம் are: 1. அன்னம், food, giving boiled rice, உணவு; 2. பானம், drink, குடிக்க நீர்; 3. அம்பரம், raiment, வஸ்திரம்; 4. மந்திரம், a dwelling, இடம்; 5. தாசபாலனம். preservation from slavery, அடிமைகாத்தல்; 6. காராமயத்திரிதயமோசனம், removing the three afflictions of captivity, சிறைநோய் மூன்றுந்தீர்த்தல். viz.: restraint from the calls of nature, மலசலவாதை; corporal punishments, சரீரதண்டனை; chains, fetters, விலங்கு போடல். 7. சவச்சேமம், burial, பிரேதமடக்கல். There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *

The stage, the period or state of preservation of creatures. திதியதிகாரசத்தி, s.
