iyngku (p. 47) கிறேன், இயங்கினேன், வேன், இயங்க, v. n. To move, stir, அசைய. 2. To go, walk, நடக்க. 3. To move about, உலாவ. 4. To respire, breathe, மூச்சியங்க. 5. (p.) To appear, be visible, to shine, ஒளிசெய்ய. 6. To abide, தங்க. இயக்கம், v. noun. Motion, locomotion, going, moving, action, அசைவு. 2. Respiration, motion connected with life, பிராணவியக்கம். என்பியக்கங்கண்டும்புறந்தரார். They relinquish not (their austerities) though their very bones protrude. (நீதிநெறி.) எல்லாங்கருத்தாவினியக்கம். uṟuttu (p. 68) கிறேன், உறுத்தினேன், வே ன், உறுத்த, v. a. To cause to be, to originate, உண்டாக்க. 2. To form, constitute, ஏற்படுத்த. 3. To insert, introduce, சேர்க்க. 4. To render, produce, வருவிக்க. 5. To erect, construct, நாட்ட. 6. To bring in contact, clap together, make an impression on the mind, தாக்க. 7. To cause smarting irritation, &c. --as dust in the eye, a rough or uneven surface to one sitting, or lying down from the protrusion of his bones, வருத்த. 8. To produce mental pain--as by a sarcastic remark, &c., மனதிலுறுத்த.--Note. The meanings of this word are commonly determined by the noun prefixed to it, and it may generally be construed by the form to cause to be, &c. See எலும்புறுத்த, below. புரவிபண்ணுறுத்திடுவார். They equipped the horse. (நைட.) மருங்கினிற்கச்சியாப்புறுத்தான். He bound the girdle about his waist. (சேதுப்.) காலிலேகல்லுறுத்துகின்றது. The pebbles hurt my feet. உறுத்திப்பேச, inf. To speak so as to make an impression on the mind. 2. To speak with energy, earnestness, &c. எலும்புறுத்த, inf. To cause a smarting irritation--as the bones by being protruded. துன்புறுத்த, inf. To cause suffering. For many words compounded with this verb, such as கண்ணுறுத்த, பயமுறுத்த, மனமுறு த்த, வற்புறுத்த, &c., see in their respective places. 2)

cillu (p. 187) s. A round pot-sherd, &c., as a plaything, ஓட்டுத்துண்டு. 2. A kind of tree, ஓர்மரம். Mimosa scandens, L. (Rott.) 3. A wheel, &c., as சில். சில்லுவிளையாட்டு, s. A play called hop-scotch. சில்லுகுந்த--சில்லுநெட்ட, inf. To play at hop-scotch. (R.) முழங்காற்சில்லு, s. The protruding knee-bone. 2)

coṇṭu (p. 210) s. [prov. and improp.] A beak, bill, பறவைமூக்கு. 2. Lip, உதடு. 3. Blubber-lip, பெருஉதடு. 4. Thick brim of pots, பாத்திரவிளிம்பு. நீயேன் என்னைகச்சொண்டுபேசுகிறாய். Why do you abuse me? சொண்டடிக்க, inf. To blubber in speaking--as an old man. சொண்டன்--சொண்டுக்காரன், s. A thick blubber-lipped person. சொண்டுகூட்ட, inf. To protrude the lips--as a child when it begins to talk. See இதழ்கூட்ட. சொண்டுக்கதை, s. Telling stories to get something to eat. 2. Tale-bearing, telling tales, exposing secrets in order to please, blabbing. சொண்டுச்சாடை, s. A kind of talebearing, telling one what another has said to his discredit. சொண்டுத்தீன், s. Delicacy in food, eating too often, &c. சொண்டுப்பானை, s. A thick brimmed pot. சொண்டுவிற்க, inf. To tell tales, to expose. 30)

cōr (p. 212) --சோரு, கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், சோ ர, v. n. To languish, droop; to be prostrate of lifeless, as the limbs in sleep; to be weary, tired, exhausted, faint, தரை. 2. To faint, swoon, களைக்க. 3. To be infatuated or love-sick, மதிமயங்க. 4. To slip off, slip down as clothes, to become uncovered--as a person asleep, சீலைசோர. 5. To trickle down silently, and copiously-as tears, blood, milk, &c., கண்ணீர்முதலிய சொரிய. 6. To flow or glide down--as fluids; to ooze out, நீர்சொரிய. 7. To falter, as words, சொற்சோர. 8. To gush out, shoot or flow out; protrude, பிரிட்டோட. 9. To fall, drop, be dropped, விழ. 1. To become loose, as rings, சுழல. 11. To fade, wither, வாட. 12. To be faulty, blameable, குற்றஞ் செய்ய. 13. To be dejected, dispirited, melancholy, மனஞ்சோர. 14. To grow slack, loose, &c.--as a rope, அவிழ. 15. To fall-as rain in a shower, சொரிய. 16. [improp. for சுவறு, (v.)] To be absorbed in the system as oil, &c. (c.) சோர்ந்துகிடக்கிறான். He is fainting or languishing. சோரப்போட, inf. To let an affair the still. 2. To let a commodity lie. in hopes of getting it cheaper. 3. To appear careless, as an adversary, till an opportunity offer. சோரத்தேய்க்க, inf. To rub oil well in. See சுவறத்தேய்க்க. சோரப்பெய்ய, inf. To rain profusely. சோரவிட, inf. To go slack--as a rope. 2. To let slip, literally or figuratively. காரியத்தைச்சோரவிடாதே. Do not let the business drop. சோர்ந்துபோக, inf. To become weary, faint; to droop, &c., to despond. 2. To be stolen, pilfered. 3. To be cheated. கைசோர்ந்துபோக, inf. To be paralyzed, or weary in the arms. சோர்ந்துவிழ, inf. To faint and fall, to slip off. சோர்வாதம், s. [prov.] Loss of life or power in a limb, &c., அயர்ச்சி. கைகால்சோர, inf. To droop--as to the limbs. சொற்சோர, inf. To falter in voice. 2. To fall in a promise. சோரல், v. noun. Drooping, fainting. சோர்தல். சோர்--சோர்பு, v. noun. Sadness. 2. Lassitude. சோர்வு, v. noun. Languishing, drooping, swooning, சோர்தல். 2. Weakness, failure in strength or mental powers, மெலிவு. 3. Carelessness, listlessness. inattention, negligence, remissness in duty, மறதி. 4. Dropping, falling off, slipping off--as clothes, trickling down, சீலைமுதலியனசோர்கை. 5. That which is lost by theft, or embezzlement, இழந்து விடுகை. 6. Moral blemish, fault, failure, ஒழுக்கஞ்சோர்கை. 7. Dejection, despondency, மனத்தளர்ச்சி. 8. Growing slack or loose, சுழலுகை. சோர்வறப்படித்தவன், appel. n. One who has learned thoroughly. சோர்வாய்ப்போக, inf. To be lost, to disappear. சோர்வில்லாமுயற்சி, s. Indefatigable energy and application. சோர்வுபார்க்க, inf. To spy, watch for opportunity, in order to pilfer. Compare வேவுபார்க்க. சொற்சோர்வு, v. noun. Faltering in speech. See சொல். 118)

nīṭṭu (p. 277) கிறேன், நீட்டினேன், வேன், நீட்ட, v. a. To stretch a rope: to stretch out the hand; to extend, lengthen; to protrude the tongue, the head &c.; to reach forth, to draw out wire &c., நீடிக்கச்செய்ய. 2. To make wire by hammering, to beat, அடித்துநீட்ட. 3. [offixed to கை.] To give, to bestow, ஈய. 4. To prolong, delay, protract, procrastinate, defer, retard, தாமதப் படுத்த. இவள்வெகுநீட்டி. She carries her head high. நீட்டவுமாட்டார்முடக்கவுமாட்டார். He will neither stretch nor bend; i. e. he will neither lend nor borrow; is miserly. அதெல்லாம்என்னிடத்தில்நீட்டாதே. Do not boast much to me. நீட்டினகைமுடக்கக்கூடாது. One could not draw in a stretched hand (so thick is the crowd, &c.) நீட்டாள், s. An attending or waiting servant, வேலையாள். நீட்டல்--நீட்டு, v. noun. The act of extending, stretching, &c., as the verb. நீட்டலளவு--நீட்டலளவை--நீட்டள வை, s. Long measure, one of the four kinds of measure, நான்களவையிலொன்று. நீட்டலளவையாகுபெயர், s. [in gram.] One of the four kinds of அளவையாகுபெயர், according to which a measuring rod is put for the piece of land measured. நீட்டல்குறுக்கல், v. noun.
