eccil (p. 73) s. Remains, or refuse of food, crumbs, orts (deemed impure), சேஷம். 2. Any thing defiled by contact with the mouth, saliva, &c., மிச்சில்; [ex எஞ்சு.] எச்சிற்கையாற்காக்கையுமோட்டான். He will not even scare away a crow with his hand while eating, lest any grain of rice fall thereby. எச்சிலாக்க--எச்சிற்படுத்த, inf. To defile food or any thing, by bringing it into contact with the mouth; to defile food by the hand, or spoon in feeding, உச்சிட்டப்படுத்த. 2. To deflour a woman, deprive a damsel of her virginity, either by force or with consent, கன்னிமைகெடுக்க. எச்சிலார், s. Low-caste people, இழிஞர். (p.) எச்சிலிலை--எச்சிற்கல்லை, s. The leaf on which one has eaten. எச்சிலுமிய--எச்சிலுமிழ--எச்சில் துப்ப, inf. To spit. (c.) எச்சில்வாய், s. Mouth unwashed after eating, கழுவாதவாய். எச்சிற்கலக்க, inf. To eat the food left by the bridegroom--as a Hindu bride does on the occasion of her marriage. 2. To eat the food left by others--as friends. எச்சிற்கலப்பு, s. The above ceremony. எச்சிற்காறியுமிழ், inf. To force up the phlegm and spit it out. எச்சிற்கிதம்பாட, inf. To assent to what is wrong from an unworthy motive. எச்சிற்குழி, s. A cavity in a court-yard, used as a spittoon, எச்சில் போடுங்குழி. எச்சிற்பட, inf. To become defiled--as food, &c., by saliva, or contact with the mouth. எச்சிற்பருக்கை, s. Grains of rice fallen while eating, சிந்திக்கிடக்குஞ்சோறு. எச்சிற்பேய், s. A diminutive demon exceedingly voracious, ஓர்பிசாசம். 2. A person very fond of dainties, பெ ருந்தீனிக்காரன். எச்சிற்றழும்பு--எச்சிற்றேமல், s. A kind of ring-worm supposed to be induced by contact with the saliva of others, தழுதணை. எச்சின்மாற்ற, inf. To purify a place after eating by smearing it anew with cowdung. கண்ணெச்சில், s. Evil imagined to be caused by other people's eyes. கண்ணெச்சிற்கழிக்க, inf. coṟi (p. 212) s. Itching, tingling, தினவு. 2. Scab, scurf, eruption; a small kind of itch, சொறிசிரங்கு. 3. Roughness, inequality of surface, மரச்சொறி. 4. Nettles, &c., which cause itching or tingling, கடற்சொறி. (c.) எறிவானேன்சொறிவானேன். Why offend and then ask pardon? [prov.] சொறிபிடிக்க, inf. To become itchy. சொறிசொறியாயிருக்க, inf. To be rough, full of asperities. 2. To be scabby--as itch. சொறிக்கல், s. [improp. சொரிக்கல்.] Lime-stone, சுக்கான்கல். 2. Laterite or iron-stone, தவளைக்கல். 3. Saffron-stone, மஞ்சட்கல். சொறிக்கிட்டம், s. Iron dross, கிட் டக்கல். சொறிதேய்க்க, inf. [prov.] To rub against a post--as a beast. என்னிலேசொறிதேய்க்கவருகிறான். He comes to rub his back against me; i. e. he thinks me of no account, or, comes to quarrel with me. சொறித்தேமல், s. A ring-worm. சொறித்தவளை, s. [also சொறியாந்த வளை.] A large kind of frog, whose skin is rough. சொறிநாய்--சொறிபிடித்தநாய், s. An itchy dog. (c.) சொறியன், s. A scabby person, 2. (M. D.) A frog, ஓர்தவளை. சொறியாடு, s. tāmarai (p. 234) s. The lotus flower, or waterlily, sacred to Brahma, Lukshmi, the sun, &c., கமலம், Nelumbium speciosum. (Willd.) W. p. 372. TAMARASA. There are different kinds--as ஆகாயத்தாமரை, ஓரிலைத்தாமரை, செந்தாமரை, மலைத்்தாமரை, வெண்தாமரை, which see. தாமரைக்கண்ணன், s. Vishnu, as lotuseyed, விஷ்ணு. தாமரைக்காய், s. The pericarp of a lotus. தாமரைக்கிழங்கு, s. Lotus roots, an article of food. தாமரைக்கொட்டை--தாமரைமணி, s. The seeds of the lotus. தாமரைச்சத்துரு, s. A kind of native arsenic, ஓர்பாஷாணம். தாமரைத்தடாகம், s. A tank filed with lotus flowers--very meritorious for bathing. தாமரைநண்பன்--தாமரைநாயகன், s. The sun as lord of the lotus. தாமரைநாளம், s. A winding stalk of the lotus. தாமரைநூல், s. Fibres of the lotus stalk, used with ghee as a wick for lamps, deemed very meritorious and acceptable to Siva. தாமரைப்பூ--தாமரசபுஷ்பம், s. Lotus flower. தாமரைமொட்டு--தாமரைமொக்குள், s. Its flower-bud. தாமரையாசனன், s. Brahma, the lotusseated. தாமரையாசனி--தாமரையாள், s. Lukshmi. தாமரையாள், s. Yellow sulphuret of arsenic. 2. See தாமரையாசனி. தாமரையான், s. An epithet of Brahma, பிரமன். தாமரையிலை, s. The lotus leaves, which are used for spreading food for guests, &c. தாமரையிலைநீர், s. Crystal-like waterdrops on the lotus leaf, ever in motion; (a figure of a troubled mind.) தாமரைவளையம், s. Coils of the lotus stalk. தாமரைவற்றல், s. Dried lotus stalk, used for food. தாமரைவாசி, appel. n. A kind of arsenic, ஓர்பாஷாணம். (R.) நிலத்தாமரை, s. The rose shrub. (R.) படுதமரை, s. A ring-worm. See under படு, v. 4)

tēml (p. 258) s. Yellow spreading spots on the skin in females, படர்சுணங்கு. There are several varieties as அழகுதேமல், beautiful spots, அழுக்குத்தேமல், dirty spots, பொங் குதேமல், spots indicative of good, மங்குதே மல், of disease or other evil. 2. [prov.] A kind of yellowish ring-worm. படர்தாமரை; [ex Sa. Tepa, To sprinkle, to shine.] தேமல்படர, inf. To spread as spots on the skin. தேமல்பூக்க, inf. To occur on the skin as small spots. 19)
