āñcāṉ (p. 37) s. [in seamen's language.] A halliard or rope for hoisting a sail, கப் பற்கயிறு. 2. A rope for lifting weights with a pulley or otherwise, a hawser, கயிறு. 3. The lone, slender stem of a tree, சிறியதனிக் கொப்பு; [ex ஆசை.] (c.) ஆஞ்சான்பற்றி, s. A beam across the stern of a dhoney to which the halliard, &c. is tied. சின்னஆஞ்சான், s. A small stay rope, as பளிஞ்சிக்கயிறு. 29)

āṟu (p. 43) s. and adj. Six (6.) six things, ஓரெண். 2. As a prefix to words beginning with consonants, the initial is often shortened, especially when the number is specific--as அறுசுவை, the six flavors. (c.) அவ்வாறு. Six by six, six to each, six of each. அறுகுணன், s. The deity--he who possesses the six attributes, கடவுள்; [ex குணம், quality.] (p.) அறுகோணம், s. A hexagon. 2. A magical diagram of two equilateral triangles, one laid over the other so that their sides may be parallel, making six outward and six inward angles. அறுசமயம், s. The six systems of religion maintained by Hindus. See சமயம். அறுதொழிலோர், s. Brahmans-from the six duties prescribed to them, வேதியர். See தொழில், office. அறுபகை, s. The six hurtful propensities--as காமம், &c. See பகை. அறுபருவம், s. The six seasons of the year--as கார், கூதிர், &c. See பருவம். அறுபொழுது, s. The six different portions of the day; 1. மாலை, the first four hours after sunset, or ten nalikies. 2. யாமம், four hours, or ten nalikies after மாலை. 3. வைகறை, four hours after யாமம் or before sunrise. 4. காலை or விடியல், four hours after sunrise or வைகறை. 5. நண்பகல், from eleven A. M. to two P. M. 6. ஏற்பாடு, from three to six P. M. அறுவர், s. Six persons--men or women. (p.)--Note. For other similar words, see அறு. ஆறங்கம், s. The six subjects embraced in வேதாங்கம்; which see. (p.) ஆறாமீனறவோட்டு, s. The transit of the sun through the pleiades, regarded by seamen, as a critical or disastrous season, when rough weather is to be looked for. ஆறுகட்டி, s. koṇṭl (p. 146) s. The east wind, கீழ் காற்று. 2. The wind of the first dewy season, முன்பனிப்பருவக்காற்று. 3. cuṭu (p. 193) கிறது, சுட்டது, ம், சுட, v. n. To be hot as from fever, become heated, காய. 2. To burn, be consumed by fire, எரிய. 3. To feel hot--as the sun's rays, be hot to the touch--as fire, &c., வெயில்முதலியசுட. 4. To kindle up as the temper and feeling under abuse, சொற்சுட. (c.) 5. To inflame, as lust, காமஞ்சுட. தண்ணீர்சுட்டுப்போயிற்று. The water is hot. சுடவைக்க, inf. To set liquids, &c., on the fire to be heated. சுடுசாதம்--சுடுசோறு, s. Boiled rice when hot. சுடுமணல், s. Hot sand. சுடுவனம், s. A burning forest, எரிவ னம். 2. See சுடு, v. a. சுடச்சுட, inf. (used adverbially.) While burning, or when fresh. நான் அவனுக்குச் சுடச்சுடக் கொடுத்தேன். I gave him a good whipping. சுடச்சுடத்தின்னல். Eating (food) hot. சுடச்சுடப்பேசுதல். Speaking sarcastically. சுடச்சுடக்காரியம்பார்த்தல். Attending to an affair while it is fresh. சுடுநீர், s. [com. வெந்நீர்.] Hot water. சுடுசொல், s. Sarcasm, irony. சுடுநாற்றம், s. Smell produced by burning hair or the dead. சுடுதண்ணீர்ப்பீங்கான், s. [prop. வெந் நீர்ப்பீங்கான்.] Hot water plate. (Colloq.) சுட்டுப்போக, inf. To become hot. சுடுவான், s. (in seamen's language.) A caboose or cooking place in a vessel, மரக்கலத்தின்மடைப்பள்ளி. மனஞ்சுட, inf. To be cut to the heart, (lit.) burnt in mind. 30)

tī (p. 242) s. Fire, நெருப்பு. 2. Elementary principle of fire and heat, caloric, பஞ்ச பூதத்தொன்று. 3. Hell, நரகம். (சது.) 4. As தீக்கணம்--Note. A three-fold class of elementary fire is given in சதுரகராதி. 1. உயிரி லுள்ளதீ. principle of fire in the sentient soul, and animal body, being a source of warmth, and energy or principle of fire in the stomach, assisting digestion, causing appetite and hunger. It is seated in the peritoneum, 3. சினத்திலெழுந்தீ, fiery principle developing itself in anger. Instead of the first, other authorities give காமத்தீ, the heat or fire of venereal appetite.-Note 2. A three-fold class of sacred fire, வேதாக்கினி, is also given. 1. காருகபத்தியம், the sacrificial fire of the Brahmanical houesholder, received from his ancestors. and kept alive. 2. தட்சிணாக்கினியம், a fire kindles from the standing fire on the southern side of the house, &c. 3. ஆக வனீயம், consecrated fire, taken from the standing fire, for sacrificial purposes. தீக்கஞ்சி, s. A kind of camphor. See தீபக்கொடிச்சி. தீக்கடன், s. (sometimes தீக்கருமம்.) The duties of the son of heir to one deceased, such as cremation and other funeral rites performed with fire. தீக்கடைகோல், s. Sticks for producing fire by friction. See கடைகோல். தீக்கதிக்கும்பச்சை, s. A precious stone, as நாகப்பச்சை. தீக்கதிர், s. A smith's poker, உலையா ணிக்கோல். (R.) தீக்கரண்டி, s. A little cup or bowl for taking up fire, தீயெடுக்குங்கருவி. தீக்கல், s. Flint, தீத்தட்டிக்கல். தீக்காய, inf. (com. குளிர்காய.) To warm one's self at the fire. தீக்குடுக்கை, s. See குடுக்கை. தீக்குதிக்க, inf. To leap into a pit of fire for self-destruction, as தீக்குளிக்க. தீக்குருவி, s. The Ostrich. See தழல் விழுங்கி. தீக்குவெறுங்குகை, s. Soap, சவுக்காரம். (R.) தீக்குழி, s. A pit with coals of fire on which persons walk. தீக்குழிபாய, inf. As தீக்குளிக்க. 2. To pass through burning coals, as a ceremony. தீக்குளிக்க, inf. See தீக்கை. தீக்கொளுத்த, inf. To kinde a fire &c., to set fire to any thing. தீ தீச்சட்டி, s. A vessel of coals, for warming one's self, or heating any thing; a chafing dish, கும்பிடுசட்டி. 2. A vessel for fire carried on one's head in performance of a vow. தீத்தட்டிக்கல், s. [prov.] (sometimes தீத்தட்டி.) A flint. தீத்தாங்கி, appel. n.. A fire-fender, தீம றைக்கும்பலகை. தீத்திரள், s. The deluge of fire, வடவா முகாக்கினி. தீத்தீண்டல், v. noun. s. A marriage ceremony, ஒருசடங்கு. தீத்தெய்வம், s. The god of fire. தீநா, s. [in seamen's language.] A lighted torch, held up in a vessel, or on shore, as a signal, அடையாளப்பந்தம். தீப்பறக்க, inf. To flash as fire, to be red hot. (c.) தீப்பற்ற, inf. To kindle, as fire. தீப்பொறி, s. A spark of fire. தீப்போட, inf. To set fire to any thing. தீமுறுகல், s. A kind of prepared arsenic, ஓர்பாஷாணம். தீயிறைக்க, inf. To belch fire. 2. To persecute with wrath. தீயெச்சம், s. See எச்சம். தீவட்டி--தீவத்தி, s. [prop. தீவர்த்தி.] A torch, a flambeau. (c.) தீவட்டிக்காரன், s. Torch-bearer. தீவட்டிக்கொள்ளை, s. Plundering one's house, as robbers with torches. தீவட்டிபிடிக்க, inf. To carry a torch. தீவலஞ்செய்தல், v. noun. Worshipping fire, as in the marriage ceremonies, by passing around it to the right, அக் கினிப்பிரதட்சணஞ்செய்தல். தீவளர்க்க, inf. To kindle or argument a fire, more especially the sacred fire as one of the duties of the Brahmanical house-holder, or a fire for a widow to plunge into. தீவளர்ப்போர், appel. n. Brahmans. தீவறை, s. [prov.] A hole dug in the ground for a fire, குழியடுப்பு. தீவிழ, inf. To be consumed by fire, as form heaven; used in cursing, or lively description. தீவிளங்கும்வயிரம், s. Ambergris, மீன ம்பர்.
