āṉai (p. 44) s. An elephant, யானை. 2. (M. Dic.) The அத்தி tree, Ficus racemosa. ஆனைகட்டுந்தறி--ஆனையணைதறி, s. A post to tie an elephant. ஆனைக்கண், s. Round, black spots in fruits, when they are over-ripe, or spoiled. ஆனைக்கண்படுதல்--ஆனைக்கண் வி ழுதல், v. noun. The appearing of spots, or defects in fruits. பலாப்பழமானைக்கண்பட்டுப் போயிற்று. The jack fruit has got a defect or flaw. ஆனைக்கதுப்பு, s. The frontal sinus of the elephant, from which secretion exudes when the animal is in rut. ஆனைக்களிமுளையான், s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு. ஆனைக்கற்றலை, s. A fish, ஓர்மீன். ஆனைக்காயம்--ஆனைப்பெருங்கா யம், s. A kind of assaf&oe;tida given to elephants, &c. See பெருங்காயம். ஆனைக்கால், s. A disease--the elephantiasis or large leg, Cochin leg, வாதக்கால். 2. A big tube fixed on the walls or roofs, for rain-water to pass through, தண்ணீர்க்குழாய். (c.) ஆனைக்காவல், s. Watchers to defend a garden, a field, &c., against elephants. ஆனைக்கூடம், s. An elephant's stall, ஆனைகட்டுமிடம். ஆனைக்கொம்பு--ஆனைக்கோடு--ஆ னைத்தந்தம், s. An elephant's tusks. 2. Ivory. ஆனைக்கொம்பன், s. A kind of rice, ஓர்வகைநெல். 2. A species of plantain--as ஆனைவாழை. ஆனைக்கோடன்சுரை, s. A gourd whose fruit is compared to the elephant's tusks, and is used for a curry, the snake gourd, ஓர்வகைச்சுரை. [Trichosanthes anguina.] ஆனைசேனை, s. A great quantity, abundance, மிகுதி. ஆனைச்சப்பரம், s. A seat on an elephant--as அம்பாரி. ஆனைச்சிலந்தி, s. A kind of scabby disease. ஆனைச்சிரங்கு, s. A kind of itch in large blisters. ஆனைச்சீரகம், s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு. ஆனைச்செவியடி, s. A pricklyleaved plant, ஓர்பூண்டு. 2. The lower part of the elephant's ear. ஆனைத்தடிச்சல், s. A kind of creeping plant with acid juice--used in polishing brass, ஓர்படர்கொடி. ஆனைத்தடிப்பு, s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு. ஆனைத்திசை, s. [in astrology.] North, வடக்கு. ஆனைத்திப்பிலி, s. Pericarps of Pothos officinalis, ஓர்வகைத்திப்பிலி. ஆனைத்தோட்டி, s. An elephant's hook or goad. ஆனைநெருஞ்சில், s. A low plant, a kind of spreading thistle--pricklyfruited Pedalium murex, ஓர்வகைநெருஞ்சில். ஆனைப்படுவன், s. A kind of scabby disease--as the அக்கி. ஆனைப்படை, s. An army of elephants. ஆனைப்பந்தி, s. An elephant's stall. 2. A row of elephants. ஆனைப்பாகன், s. An elephanteer, or one who tames or guides elephants. ஆனைப்பிச்சான், s. A plant, ஓர் பூண்டு. ஆனைப்பேன், s. An insect that lives in the brinjall plant, கத்தரிச்செடியிலு ண்டாகுமோர்பூச்சி. ஆனைமஞ்சள், s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு. ஆனைமதம், s. An elephant's rut. ஆனைமத்தகம், s. An elephant's skull or part of the head, கும்பம். இ. A short letter, similar to I in English, ஓர்குற்றெழுத்து. 2. A demonstrative prefix, சுட்டெழுத்து--as இந்த, this. 3. A termination of the second person singular, முன்னிலையொருமைவிகுதி--as உண்டி, thou hast eaten. 4. An imperative second person singular, முன்னிலையேவலொருமைவிகுதி-as சொல்லுதி, say thou. 5. A feminine appellative termination, பெண்பால்விகுதி-as கூனி, a hump-backed woman. 6. A singular termination, common to the masc. and fem., உயர்திணையொருமைவிகுதி--as மானி, an honorable person--பாவி, a sinner. 7. A termination in the singular, common to each gender, இருதிணைமுக்கூற்றொருமைவிகுதி --as செவியிலி, a man, woman, or animal without ears. 8. An expletive inserted at pleasure, when the preceding word ends with any letter except ய், and the following word begins with ய், சாரியை--as காலியாது, from கால், foot and யாது, which. 9. A termination of some participles, வினையெச்சவிகு தி--as எண்ணி, சொல்லி, &c. 1. A prefix to ஆனைமயிர், s. The hair of an elephant's tail. ஆனைமயிர்க்காப்பு, s. Bracelets of the hair of elephants' tails. ஆனைமலை, s. The name of a mountain in the south near Madura. ஆனைமுகவன்--ஆனைமுகன், s. Ganesa, விநாயகன். 2. An Asoor, கசமுகா சுரன். (p.) ஆனைமுதுகு, s. An elephant's back. ஆனையடி, s. The footsteps of an elephant. ஆனையறுகு, s. A kind of grass, ஓரறுகு. ஆனையறையும்புள்--ஆனையிறாஞ்சி ப்புள்--அனையுண்குருகு, s. A fabulous bird --said to devour the elephant. ஆனையிலத்தி, s. Elephant's dung. ஆனையூர்தி, s. Indra whose vehicle is the elephant, இந்திரன். 2. Ian, ஐயன். (p.) ஆனையேற்றம், s. Learning and practising to ride on an elephant, யானை யேறிப்பழகுகை. ஆனைவணங்கி, s. A kind of plant whose flower is supposed to resemble the trunk of an elephant. It is also fancied to be a preservative against the attack of a wild elephant, which, it is said, will retire abashed at the sight of it, தேட்கொடுக்குப்பூண்டு. ஆனைவாழை, s. The root of one of the negative symbolic verbs, (see அல்) expressive of total or exclusive negation of the thing or quality--the opposite of உள். Sometimes in poetry it stands as a contraction of இல்லை. இற்றிறம்பிலர். They fail not in the performance of domestic duties; [ex இல், house; திறம்பு, failure; இலர், who are not.] இணையில்நெஞ்சமே. O! incomparable mind; O! mind debased beyond comparison. இலி, s. A person, or thing possessed of nothing. பிறப்பிலி, s. He who is without birth--the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். (p.) இறையிலி, s. He who is exempt from taxes; [ex இறை, tribute; இல், not; இ, affix.] இந்தநிலமிறையிலி. This field is not taxed. இல்பொருள், s. Downright lie, முழுப்பொய். இல்லாதவன், neg. appel. noun. One utterly destitute. இல்லாததும்பொல்லாதுஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To tell lies and speak evil of one. இல்லாமல், ver. part. Without. இல்லாமற்போனால், If not, otherwise. இல்லாமலிருக்க, inf. To be without, be wanting, be absent. இல்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Absence, destitution, privation, இன்மை. 2. Poverty, want, தரித்திரம். இல்லார்--இல்லோர், s. The poor, the destitute, those who are in want, தரித்திரர். இல்லெனல், v. noun. Death, extinction, சாதல். 2. Denying, இல்லையென் றசொல்லல். இல்லை, s. Negation, இன்மை. 2. A defective verb implying absolute negation, added to nouns, pronouns, verbs or participles. 3. Death, extinction of life, சாதல். இல்லையாகியவென்மகற்காண்பன். I shall see my deceased son. இல்லையாகில்--இல்லையென்கில்--இல்லையெ ன்றால். If not, or else, otherwise. வருகிறையோ இல்லையோ? Will you come or not? ஒருக்காலுமில்லை. Never. இதுவுமில்லை--அதுவுமில்லை--இரண்டுமில்லை. Neither this nor that, neither of the two. ஒற்றுமில்லை. Nothing. துப்புறவில்லை--பரிச்சேதமில்லை. Not at all. அளவில்லை. Beyond measure, immeasurable. இன்னதென்றில்லை. It is not described what it is, no matter what. இவ்வளவென்றில்லை. It is unascertained, not estimated, not measured. இல்வழக்கு, s. Unjust lawsuit, பொய்வழக்கு. எண்ணில்காலம், s. Incalculable time. அருளிலார், s. Those devoid of benevolence. இன்றி, v. part. from the root இல். Without. தாமதமின்றி. Without delay. ஒருபிரயாசமுமின்றி. eṉ (p. 75) கிறேன், றேன், பேன், என்ன, v. a. To say, name, pronounce, express, do, indicate, either by words or signs, expressed, or implied, என்றுசொல்ல. This is the common form for quotation, in which sense it generally occurs in all its various uses. In the infinitive and other parts it is commonly found with one ன் only. என்கு. I say. என்கும். We say. என்ப--என்பர்--என்மர்--என்மனார்--என்றிசினோ ர். They say, they may say, some say, &c. அப்படியென்கிறான். So he says. 2. He does so (the speaker making the sign or sound intended). இல்லையென்கிறேன். I say no-implying impatience, displeasure, emphasis, &c. பணமில்லையென்கிறான். He says he has no money. போவென்கிறேன். I tell you to go, lit. I say go, and implying I have said so before. அவனைப்போவென்னப்போகிறான். When I say go, he goes. காமதேனுவென்கிறபசு. The cow (of the supernals) called Kamadhanu. நானென்னுமெண்ணம். Self conceit, consequence. என்பவன், appel. n. He who says so. 2. He who is called so. பெரியானென்பவன். Perian, or he who is called Perian. ஆவென்ன, inf. To open the mouth, lit. to say ஆ. ஈயென்ன, inf. To show the teeth, lit. to say ஈ. என்பிக்க, inf. To cause another to say, to prove, சொல்லுவிக்க. அதையவன்வாயினாலேயுமக்கென்பிப்பேன். I will prove it to you from his mouth. என்று. The gerund of the verb என், used instead of என the infinitive (which is the poetic usage in this connexion), it serves to end a quotation and to connect it with the following part of the sentence, in which case it often corresponds to the conjunction that, வினையெச்சம். அவனையடித்தேனென்றுசொன்னான். He said that he struck him, lit. he said, I struck him. Note 1st. In connexion with appropriate verbs, என்று, and என often mean to expect, to think, imagine, to suppose, to pretend, to desire, எண்ணுதல் or some such verb being implied; பணந் தெய்வமென்றுநடக்கிறான், he makes money his god; அதுபுகையென்றிருந்தேன், I thought it was smoke, I took it for smoke; அவர்வருவாரென்றிருக்கிறேன், I expect him to come; அவன்சொன்னானென்றுவந்தாயா, have you came because he told you?--Note 2d. According to நன்னூல், என்று and என are இடைச்சொல் or particles, with several specific uses, the other parts of the verb are or may be included. 1. With பெயர் or names; அழுக்காறெனவொரு பாவி, the sinner called envy. (குறள்.) 2. With குறிப்பு or symbolic forms; சிக்கென வூன்றியவேர், the root which has taken firm hold; திடீரெனவந்தான், he came suddenly. 3. With இசை or (imitative) sounds; ஒல்லெனவொலித்தது, it sounded ஒல்; அடுக் கு or repititive symbolic terms are included in this class; படபடென்றுநடுங்கி னான், he trembled (shook, shivered, &c.) greatly; சுஃஃறென்னுந்தண்டோட்டுப்பெண் ணை, the palmyras whose green leaves rustled (emitted the sound of சுஃஃறு). 4. With எண் enumeration, in which they are equivalent to the copulative conjunction; சாத்தனெனக்கொற்றனெனப்பூதனெ னமூவரும்வந்தார், Sattan, Kottan and Bhuta came; தேனென்றுபாலென்றுவமையில்லாமொழி, words unequalled (in sweetness) by honey or milk. 5. With பண்பு or symbolic terms expressive of quality and intensity; சிவேரெனச்சிவந்தது, it reddened to a crimson; வெள்ளெனவா, come in the grey of the morning; வெள்ளெனவி ளர்த்தது, it became very white.--Note 3d. என்று and என also serve to express similitude, like, as, &c.; புலியெனப்பாய்ந் தான், he sprang like a tiger; காந்தளெனக் கைநீட்டி, extending her காந்தள்-like hand. --Note 4th. என and என்று are also used to express pre-eminence, &c.; இன்னதென் றில்லை, it is no matter which; ஆரென்றுநி னைத்தாய், who do you suppose I am? I am not to be treated thus, &c., உயிரென் றுபார்க்கவில்லை, he does not (or did not) regard even life; அவனுக்கின்னாரென்றில்லை, it is no matter to him who; குருவென் றுபேணுகின்றிலன், he does not respect even the guru; எவ்வளவென்றில்லை, it is no matter how much. 2. How much soever, how little soever. 3. It is illimitable, undefined, the quantity is unknown; வாய்வயிறென்றுபார்க்கிறதில்லை, he does not give himself time to eat.--Note 5th. என and என்று are also used with reiterative symbolic terms; மடம்டென்றொலித்த து, it sounded மட, மட; அடியடியென்றடித் தான், he beat him soundly; தலைதலையென்ற டித்துக்கொண்டான், he beat his head greatly through rage, grief, despair, &c.; lit. saying, 'Head, head;' வாய்வாயென்றடிக்க, to beat one's mouth greatly--in sorrow, despair, &c.; எறியெறியென்றெறிந்தான், he threw many times; lit. he threw, saying, 'Throw, throw.'--Note 6th. என and என்று, with a dative imply, designed or appointed for, sacred or devoted to, for the sake of, &c.; சுவாமிக்கென்றுநேர்ந் தது, it is vowed (devoted) to God; தன்பிள்ளைக்கென்றுவைத்துக்கொண்டான், he kept it for his child; எனக்கென்றெடுக்கமாட் டேன், I will not take it for myself-Note 7th. The subjunctive என்றால் joined to verbs or used when verbs are implied forms the subjunctive of those verbs.--Note 8th. The subjunctive என் னில், poetically, என்னின், if, is contracted into எனில் and எனின், and in classical usage to எல் and என்: உம் joined to those forms makes them though; they are added to other verbs or to nouns; ஓரடி யென்கிலும்நட, walk, if it be but one step. 40)
கன்மம்
kaṉmam (p. 102) s. Moral actions, especially in their effects--as the cause of transmigrations and their accompanying joys and sorrows, pleasure and pains, intelligence or stupidity, &c., சஞ்சிதகன்மம். 2. Actions, செய்தொழில். 3. Evil actions, evil, vice, தீவினை. (See கருமம்.) 4. Fate, destiny, the fruits, retributions, &c., of actions in former births, பிராரத்தகன்மம். Wils. p. 198. KARMMAN. In the Agamas, actions and their effects are of three classes, viz: 1. ஆகாமியம், moral actions, good and evil of the present life, considered as the source of future births with their suffering and enjoyment. 2. சஞ்சிதம், the accumulated actions of the soul in former births, the retributions of which are to be experienced in future transmigrations. 3. பிராரத்தம் or பிராரத்துவம், the enjoyment and sufferings apportioned to the soul in the present state --as the retributions of actions in former births. அவனைக்கொல்லாதேகன்மம்பிடிக்கும். Do not kill him, if you do, the action will seize you. கன்மங்கட்டுப்பட, inf. See கருமங் கட்டுப்பட. கன்மகாண்டம், s. A medical book treating of diseases, as caused by the sins of former births, and the means necessary to remove them, so that medicines may prove effectual, ஓர்வைத்தியநூல். கன்மசண்டாளன், s. See கரும சண்டாளன். கன்மசாந்தி, s. A ceremony for the expiation of the evil of former deeds, கருமநிவர்த்தி. கன்மஞ்செய்தகுடி, s. A family guilty of wicked actions in former births, now made manifest by their sufferings. கன்மத்தியாகம், s. Expiation of the evil of a former birth. கன்மத்துரோகி, s. A wicked wretch, a criminal, சண்டாளன். கன்மநிவர்த்தி--கன்மநிவாரணம், s. See கருமநிவர்த்தி. கன்மந்தொலைய, inf. To become extinct, to be worked or eaten out and terminated--as former evil deeds. கன்மபந்தம், s. [as கருமபந்தம்.] The bond or connexion between the sins of former births and their subsequent punishment. கன்மபரிபாகம், s. Ripening, or expiration of the accumulated merit of the actions of former births, கன்மவொழிவு. கன்மபாதகம், s. A heinous crime. கன்மபாதகன், s. One guilty of some heinous crime, கொடியபாதகன். கன்மபூமி, s. The earth as the theatre of moral actions, or place where virtue and vice are practised, and their respective merit and demerit accumulated, பூலோகம். கன்மம்பிடிக்க, inf. To attend, follow, or pursue--as the guilt of crimes personified. கன்மம்புசிக்க, inf. To experience the good or evil of former actions. கன்மவலை, s. The net of moral actions, கன்மபாசம், i. e. the entanglements of births, or actions and their result, in subsequent transmigrations. கன்மவாதனை, s. See கருமவேதனை. கன்மரோகம்--கன்மவியாதி, s. See கருமவியாதி. கன்மவுடம்பு, s. Bodies assumed, as a result of former deeds, கன்மசரீரம். கன்மாதி, s. Funeral rites, &c., for deceased ancestors, கர்மாதி. கன்மி, s. A heinous sinner, a perpetrator of crimes, கருமி. கன்மேந்திரியம், s. The five organs of action, தொழிற்கருவி. See இந்திரியம். 68)

krumm (p. 96) s. Act, action, moral actions involving future retribution, &c., கிரியை. 2. Actions of a previous birth, good or evil, entailed on the soul and resulting in the enjoyments and sufferings of the present or a future state, fate, destiny, முன்வினை. 3. Business, profession, occupation, attempt, essay, enterprise, தொழில். 4. Religious rites, duties, &c., stated, periodical, or otherwise, according to the rules of the shasters; moral duty, specific action, duty, obligation imposed by peculiarities of tribe or occupation, &c., வைதீகக்கிரியை. 5. Natural activity, self-moving energy, &c., இயற்கைச்சொல். 6. Religious actions --as connected with the hope of future recompense and as opposed to speculative religion--as explained in the Agamas, ஆகாயமிருகம். 7. [in grammar.] The object of actions, செயப்படுபொருள். 8. Magical enchantment of eight kinds, அஷ்டகருமம். (1.) வசியம். getting a person into one's own power, influence, &c. (2.) மோகனம், libidinous fascinations. (3.) தம்பனம், stopping, checking, restraining the powers of fire, the flowing of water, the ferocity of wild beasts, &c., making a spirit or person stand immovable in a place and depriving him on the power of speech, &c. (4.) உச்சா டனம், setting demons against one to ruin him by magical incantations, or dislodging them from persons or places. (5.) ஆகருட ணம், summoning or invoking a spirit or absent person visibly into one's presence. (6.) வித்துவேடணம், excitment to hatred. (7.) பேதனம், causing separation, dissension, discord. (8.) மாரணம், deprivation of life, killing either spirits or men. Wils. p. 197. KARUMA., and p. 198. KARUMAN. 9. Heat, உஷ்டணம். கருமஒழுங்குபெருமைக்களவு, rectitude of his actions is the measure of a man's dignity. கருமவரிசையால். For the attainment of an object-- (நாலடி.) கருமகர்த்தா, s. A doer, actor, performer. கருமஞ்செய்பவன். 2. [in grammar.] The agent, காரியகர்த்தர். கருமகாண்டம், s. A division of the Vedas, வேதநூலினோர்பகுப்பு. 2. A medical treatise of Agustya. See கன்ம காண்டம். கருமகாண்டிகன், s. One who practises the rites and ceremonies inculcated in the Vedas, கிரியாகாண்டிகன். கருமங்கட்டுப்பட, inf. To be contracted, accumulated, laid up, &c.--as sins for retribution in future births, வி னைகட்டுப்பட. கருமசண்டாளன், s. A villian, a scoundrel, a rogue, an abandoned wretch. கருமசம், s. Vice, atrocity, தீவினை. Wils. p. 197. KARMAJA. கருமசாங்கரியம், s. Community of wives, promiscuous or indiscriminate cohabitation, ஐக்கம். கருமஞானம், s. Knowledge and skill religious exercise and ceremonies. கருமத்தலைவர், s. Royal fortunetellers, astrologers, conjurers, foretellers of future events, வருங்காரியஞ்சொல்வோர். கருமத்தலைவன், s. a superntendent. 2. A minister, அரசர்க்குத்துணைவன். கருமத்துரோகம், s. Treachery, treason, villainy துரோகஞ்செய்யல். கருமநிவிர்த்தி, s. Ceremonies performed to expiate the evil deeds of former births in times of disease, &c. கருமபந்தம்--கருமபந்தனம், s. The tie or vinculum, கருமபாசம், Which connects the actions of a former birth with their fruits in after transmigrations. Wils. p. 198. KARMMABANTHANA. கருமபாகை, s. One of the three parts of the Vedas, relating to daily ceremonial rites, வேதத்தின்பொருட்பாகுபாட் டிலொன்று. See ஞானபாகை, and அருத்தபாகை. கருமபூமி, s. The part of the earth deemed most sacred in which Hinduism prevails and religious rites are regularly performed, வினைசெய்தற்குரியபூமி. Wils. p. 198. KARMMAB'HUMI. 2. A place of cremation, சுடுகாடு. கருமபூமிக்குரிமை, s. The six occupations of men, viz.: 1. வரைவு, marriage. 2. தொழில். trade. 3. வித்தை, study. 4. வாணிபம், merchandize. 5. உழவு, husbandry. 6. சிற்பம், the arts. கருமமுடிக்க, inf. To accomplish one's purpose. 2. To perform duties, rites, ceremonies, &c., especially the daily rites and duties of religion. கருமவியாதி, s. A lingering and afflictive disease, the result as supposed of atrocious deeds in previous births. கருமவேதனை, s. The results, actions-as births, bodies, pleasures, pains, &c., கன்மவாதனை. கருமாதி, s. Prescribed funeral rites for deceased ancestors, அந்தியேட்டிமுதலிய சடங்கு. கருமாதிகாரன், s. A ruler, a governor, கருமத்தலைவன். கருமாதிசெய்ய, inf. To perform funeral rites. கருமாத்துமா, s. A heinous sinner, one who has accumulated evil deeds either in a previous birth or the present. Wils. p. 199. KARMMATMAN. கருமாந்தம்--கருமாந்தரம்--கருமாந் தியம், s. The end of a funeral ceremony which continues for sixteen days. Wils. p. 199. KARMMANTA, KARMANTARA. கருமானுட்டானம், s. Performance of exterior rites as distinguished from the contemplative or internal ritual of the silent worshipper. Wils. p. 199. KARMMANUSHTANA. கருமானுபவம், s. Suffering evils from sins of previous births, கருமப்பய னுகர்ச்சி. கருமி, s. A person engaged in the ordinary external rites of religion who has not risen to the higher degrees, கிரி யைசெய்பவன். 2. In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். பாதகம்
pātakam (p. 310) s. [poet. பதகம்.] A grievous sin, a heinous crime, துரோகம். W. p. 524. PATAKA. Note. For the five பாதகம், or heinous sins, see பஞ்சபாதகம். Another classification is seven-fold, as given in சதுர கராதி, being apparently the venial sins of the Romanists; சித்தசமுன்னதி, or அகங்காரம், pride; 2.அருத்தலோபம், or உலோபம், avarice; 3. காமம், lust, lasciviousness; 4. வைஷம்மியம் or பகை, hatred, enmity; 5. அசனப்பிரியம், போசனப்பிரியம், gluttony; 6. கோபம் or காய்தல், anger, malice; 7.அனுஷ்டணம் or சோம்பல், idleness, laziness. பாதகத்துரோகி, s. A perfidious villain, an infamous wretch, கொடும்பாவி. பாதகன், s. [plu. பாதகர், fem. பாதகத்தி, பாதகி.] A vile, desperate sinner, துரோகி. பாதகன்முகத்திலேவிழிக்கப்படாது. Look not on a wicked person. 14)

pāpam (p. 311) s. [com. பாவம்.] Sin, crime, wickedness, vice, தீமை. 2. Vileness, demerit, accumulated stock of demerit from former births, தீவினை. Misfortune, as the result of former actions, but often spoken in burlesque, அதிஷ்டவீனம். (c.) பாவகாரி, s. (St.) A sinner, பாவி. பாவங்கட்டுப்படுதல், v. noun. The accumulation of sin. பாவசங்கீர்த்தனம்-பாவசங்கீர்த்தனை, s. [R. Cath. use.] Confession of sin. பாவசென்மம், s. As பாவயோனி. பாவசேடம், s. Remains of sin attaching to holy persons, பாவத்தின்மீதி. 2. Remaining demerit of souls at the close of a term of existence, to be expiated afterwards, ஊழின்மீதி. பாவச்சடம்--பாவசரீரம், s. Bodies assumed as the effect of former actions. பாவச்சுமை, s. The burden of sin; accumulated evil to be expiated by suffering. பாவஞ்சுமக்க, inf. To contract sin. See சும, v. பாவஞ்செய்ய, inf. To sin, to do evil. பாவஞ்செய்தகுடி. A distressed family --(lit.) who suffer the consequences of former sins. பாவட்சயம்--பாவக்ஷயம், s. Destruction of the accumulated demerit of sin attaching to the soul; [ex க்ஷயம்.] பாவநாசம், s. Removal or expiation of sin. 2. As பாவவிநாசம். பாவந்தவிர்க்க, inf. [also பாவத்தைத்த விர்க்க.] To abstain from vice. பாவந்தீர்க்க, inf. To remove, sin, to expiate evil attached to the soul. பாவந்தீர்தல், v. noun. Expiating the evil attached to souls, commonly by suffering. பாவநிவாரணம்--பாவநிவிர்த்தி, s. As பாவநாசம். பாவம்பலிக்க, inf. To end in suffering --as sin. பாவபுண்ணியம், s. Vice and virtue. பாவபுண்ணியவழக்கம், 3, s. Three adjuncts of sin: 1. Doing, செய்தல். 2. Inciting, செய்வித்தல். 3. Consenting, உட ன்படல். பாவமன்னிப்பு, v. noun. [Chris. usage.] Pardon of sin. பாவமூர்த்திகள், s. The vile, the base; they whose very shape is the effect of sin, பாவத்திலுற்பவித்தோர். 2.
