[Govt. usage.] Plaited grass, to protect the banks of river, புல் திரணை,--Note. There are many different kinds of snake--as இல்லிப்பாம்பு or கடற் பாம்பு, as sea-snake; கரும்பாம்பு, and செம்பாம்பு, Rahu and Kethu, which cause eclipses; இருதலைப்பாம்பு, a two-headed snake, amphis b&oe;na; (R.) சிறுபாம்பு, a small venomous snake; சீலைப்பாம்பு, a snake whose bite causes relaxation; மலைப்பாம்பு, or தாராமூக்கன்பாம்பு, a large mountain-snake, also the boa constrictor; and the following கண்குத்திப் பாம்பு, கீரிப்பாம்பு, சாரைப்பாம்பு, சுருட்டைப்பாம்பு, செவிப்பாம்பு, தாசரிப்பாம்பு, நாகப்பாம்பு, தண்ணீர்ப் பாம்பு, பச்சைப்பாம்பு, புடையன்பாம்பு, மண்டலிப் பாம்பு, மண்ணுணிப்பாம்பு, வழலைப்பாம்பு, விரியன் பாம்பு, which see in their places. பாம்பரணை, s. A venomous kind of See அரணை. பாம்பாட்ட, inf. To make a snake dance, especially the cobra. 2. (fig.) To trouble, to give annoyance. பாம்பாட்டம், s. A serpentine, wavy, meandering, zigzag course or motion. பாம்பாட்டி--பாம்புப்பணிக்கன், appel. n. A snake-dancer, கௌசிகன். [Commonly of the குறவர் caste.] பாம்பாட்டிச்சித்தர், s. An author of the சித்தர் class. பாம்புகடி, s. Bite of a snake. பாம்புகண்டசித்தன், s. A bear, கரடி. பாம்புகொல்லி, v. noun. A plant. ஓர் பூடு. பாம்புக்கல், s. A stone said to extract, if duly applied, the venom from a poisonous bite. See பாஷாணக்கல். பாம்புக்குட்டி, s. A young snake. See குட்டி. பாம்புக்குட்டிக்குப்பால்வார்த்து வளர்த்தாற்போலா யிற்று. It is like nourishing a young serpent with milk; said of a benefit rewarded by evil. பாம்புக்குத்தச்சன், s. White ants, கறை யான். பாம்புச்சட்டை, s. A snake's slough. See சட்டை. பாம்புதின்னி, appel. n. A kind of poisonous herb, the leaves of which are used with other ingredients to extract thorns--also called, முண்ணாயகி. பாம்புபிடிக்க, inf. To catch snakes. பாம்புபிடித்துக்கட்ட, inf. To twist long grass for the protection of the bank of a river during a flood. பாம்புபிணைதல், v. noun. Adhering as snakes in copulation. பாம்புப்புற்று, s. A snake's hole, commonly an old white ant's nest. பாம்புப்பெட்டி, s. A basket for carrying snakes. பாம்புமுட்டை, s. Snake's egg. பாம்பும்படமுந்தானம்பண்ண, inf. To make gifts, to religious mendicants, in the form of a snake with a spread neck, at an eclipse happening on the person's birth day, or at other critical periods. பாம்புமொச்சை, s. An herb, ஓர்பூடு, Dolichos falcatus. (R.) பாம்புவாய்வைத்தல், v. noun. Biting of a snake. பாம்புவிரல், s. The middle finger, நடு விரல். பாம்போடுவடலி, s.
