kṭā (p. 87) s. The male of goats, sheep, buffaloes, ஆடு, எருமை இவற்றினாண். 2. A question, interrogation, வினா.--Note. கடாய் is sometimes improperly used for கடா, to denote a he-goat or ram. கடாக்கன்று, s. A young male buffalo. கடாக்குட்டி, s. A young male sheep. கடாத்தன்மை, s. Rashness, indiscretion, fool-hardiness, மடமை. 2. Unmannerliness, clownishness, stubbornness, disobedience, கீழ்ப்படியாமை. கடாவடி, s. கட்டை
kṭṭai (p. 88) s. A block, a log, a small stump, a slab, a clump, குற்றி. 2. A post or stake to fasten an animal to, கடாவுமுளை. 3. Fire-wood, விறகு. 4. A short low dwarfish thing, thing grown short by use, worn off--as a pen, &c., தேய்ந்தது. 5. A lifeless body, உடல். 6. Defect, imperfection, inferiority, குறைவு. 7. The refuse or residuum of கேழ்வரகு, தினை and சாயவேர் root after pounding and sifting, திப்பி. 8. Roughness of the beard after shaving, மயிர் க்கட்டை. இந்தச்சீலையகலக்கட்டை. This cloth is narrow. இதுமுழக்கட்டையானசீலை. This cloth is deficient in length and breadth. அந்தமரத்திற்கிந்தமரங்கட்டை. This piece of timber is shorter than that. கல்வியிலவன்கட்டை. [prov.] He is deficient in learning. கட்டைகடாவ, inf. To fasten a splinter or pointed stick, &c. கட்டைக்காலி, s. [prov. vul.] A bear, கரடி--as short legged--and sometimes applied to women, cows, &c. கட்டைக்குரல், s. [prov.] A weak voice, கம்மினகுரல். கட்டைக்குருத்து, s. [prov.] The last tender leaf of a plantain which envelopes the sheath or blossom and shoots out a little before it. கட்டைநெருப்பு, s. Coal fire. கட்டைப்புத்தி, s. Shallow wit, weak intellect, stupidity, தடிப்புத்தி. கட்டையடிக்க, inf. To pass a stick through a plucked jack-fruit to ripen it, ஆப்படிக்க. 2. To hurt the foot against a stump by striking on it, காலிற்கட்டையிடற. 3. To drive a stake into the ground to tie animals to, முளைகடாவ. கட்டையன், s. (fem. கட்டைச்சி.) A short person, குறளன். கட்டைவாக்கு, s. Dimness in a precious stone, இரத்தினத்தின்மங்கலொளி. கட்டைவிரல், s. The thumb or great toe, காலின்பெருவிரல். கட்டைவைத்தல், v. noun. [prov.] Collecting the stones in the hand in the game of கொக்கான். 2. Gaining in the game of singing verses. See ஈற்றெழுத்துக்கவி. முகக்கட்டை--மோக்கட்டை-முகவாய்க்கட்டை--மோவாய்க்கட்டை, s. The chin. எள்ளுக்கட்டை--எட்கட்டை, s. The stubble or stumps of Indian sesamum. 42)
குறும்பு
kuṟumpu (p. 132) s. Villages in desert tracts, பாலைநிலத்தூர். 2. Battle, fighting, war, போர். 3. A stronghold, at fort, அரனிருக்கை. 4. A class of savages, supposed to form a part of the aborigines of Southern India. குறும் பர்சாதி. Those living in the forests and jungles were called காட்டுக்குறும்பு, and those in towns and strongholds நாட்டுக்குறும் பு. 5. Barbarity, savageness, stubbornness, insolance, wickedness, குறும்புத்தன்மை. குறும்பர், s. (pl. of குறும்பன், sing.) The people of the Kurumba class. 2. Petty chieftains of the Kurumba tribes, being often intruders upon the new settlers of Southern India, குறுநிலமன்னர். 3. Savages; the low and vile, கீழ்மக்கள். 4. (Rott.) Stubbornness, selfwilledness, insolence, wickedness, mischief; the characteristics of the Kurumba people. குறும்புவன்னியன், s. One of the பன்னி tribe, ஓர்சாதியான். 44)
குழப்பு
kuẕppu (p. 128) கிறேன், குழப்பினேன், வேன், ப்ப, v. a. To mix into a mass, to incorporate; to stir up, to agitate, கலக்க. 2. To derange, disorder; to jumble, ஒழுங்கைக் கலைக்க. 3. To confuse, disturb; to embroil, embarrass, தாறுமாறாக்க. 4. To disconcert, to trouble, மனதைக்குழப்ப. 5. To cause doubt, or hesitation; to frustrate a design; to interrupt, to hinder a contract, &c., தடுக்க. 6. To vex, annoy, tease, அலைக்கழிக்க. 7. v. n. to be restive, stubborn, unruly, intractable, குழப்பஞ்செய்ய. 8. To prevaricate, to shuffle; to evade fair questions, குழப்பிப்பேச. குழப்பிப்போட, inf. To mix, mingle. 2. To confuse, disturb, perplex. 3. To be restive or stubborn. விருந்தைக்குழப்பிப்போட்டான். He has broken up the feast. குழப்பியடிக்க, inf. To confuse, derange, perplex. 2. To excite, stir up, &c.--Note. More intense than குழப்ப. குழப்பு, v. noun. Mixing liquids of different consistency; mixing powders with liquids, &c., கலக்குகை. 2. Agitating, confusing, &c., குழப்புகை. 19)
கொம்பு
kompu (p. 146) s. The horn of a beast, விலங்கின்கொம்பு. 2. A branch, மரக்கொம்பு. 3. The foot-stalk or stem of a flower, பூங் கொம்பு. (p.) 4. A narrow stick; a staff, pole, கோல். 5. A musical instrument; a cornet, horn, ஊதுகொம்பு. 6. A tusk of an elephant or hog, யானைமுதலியவற்றின்தந்தம். 7. The curllike symbol in certain compound characters--as in நெ, பொ, &c., அக்கரத்தின்கோடு. 8. The bent front pole of a palankeen, சிவி கையின்கொம்பு. 9. (fig.) Eminence, greatness, மேன்மை. 1. (loc.) The outlet of a tank, ஏரிக்கோடி. பறக்குங்குருவிக்கு இருக்குங்கொம்புதெரியாது, பரதே சிக்குத்தங்குமிடந்தெரியாது. The migrating bird knows not the branch on which it may roost; and the pilgrim known not his halting place. பழுத்தபழங்கொம்பிலிராது. The ripe fruit remains not on the branch; i. e., at the appointed time, the event will happen. பிடித்தகொம்புமொடிந்துமிதித்தகொம்புமுறிந்தாற்போ லானேன். I was like a man in whose hands and under whose feet the branches had given way; i. e. I was without support. கொம்புசுற்றிக்காற்றடிக்கிறது. The wind blows and whirls around every branch. ஏதுகொம்புமுளைத்துவிட்டதோ. Have his horns grown? used when a person shows pride,insubordination, &c. கொம்படிக்க, inf. To butt--as oxen, buffaloes, rams, goats, &c. 2. (fig.) To assume authority, to be supercilious. கொம்பனையாள்--கொம்பனாள், s. She whose waist is as tender and narrow as the stem of flower. (p.) கொம்பன், s. A tusked elephant or other beast. 2. A kind of cholera or small-pox. கொம்பன்சுறா, s. The sword fish, (lit.) the horned shark. கொம்பாள், s. [loc.] A man looking out from a tree. Sometimes கொம்பத்தாள். கொம்புத்தேன், s. [prov கொப்பாந் தேன்.] Honey formed by bees on branches. கொம்புப்பயறு, s. A kind of pulse. கொம்புப்பாகல்--கொம்பன்பாகல். A kind of winding பாகல் creeper. கொம்பாடவிடான். He suffers no one else to take the lead; assumes too much. கொம்பேறிமூர்க்கன்-கொம்பேறிமூக்கன், s. [loc.] A long dangerous snake living in trees. அசைக்கொம்பு--ஆடுகொம்பு--தோற் கொம்பு, s. A moveable horn fixed in the skin. கடைக்கொம்பு--உளிக்கொம்பு, s. Stump of a horn. கவர்க்கொம்பு--கவட்டைக்கொம்பு-கிளைக்கொம்பு, s. A branched horn. திருகுகொம்பு--முறுக்குக்கொம்பு, s. Winding or tortuous horn. மட்டைக்கொம்பு--விரிகொம்பு, s. Horns extended on both sides. முகக்கொம்பு--முன்கொம்பு, s. Horns setting down towards the ground. மோழைக்கொம்பு, s. Horns hindered from growing by being burnt. உச்சிக்கொம்பன், s. A beast with perpendicular horns near together. ஏந்துகொம்பன், s. An elephant with curved tusks. 2. An ox with horns rising abruptly and projecting forward at the points. ஒற்றைக்கொம்பன், s. An elephant with one tusk, the other being broken. 2. Ganésa. See ஒற்றை. கணைக்கொம்பன், s. An ox with stunted horns. கிளிக்கொம்பன், s. See under கிளி. கூடுகொம்பன், s. An ox whose horns come near together at the points. கூர்ங்கொம்பன், s. Sharp-horned ox. கூழைக்கொம்பன், s. An ox with stubbed horns. நாரைக்கொம்பன், s. [prov.] An ox with long white horns. பவளக்கொம்பன், s. An elephant whose tusks resemble coral in color. பிடிக்கொம்பன், s. Short-horned beast. மாடைக்கொம்பன், s. A bullock with horns bent backwards. முத்துக்கொம்பன், s. An elephant whose tusks, in color, resemble pearl. விரிகொம்பன், s. An ox with spreading horns. கொம்புக்காரன், s. [prov. கொம்பூதி.] A horn blower. கொம்புக்கால், s. The ெ with ா--as ெ-ா, with க--making கொ. கொம்புகாலி, s. [prov.] A palankeen bearer; a term of reproach. கொம்புப்பிறை, s. A கொம்பு with a பிறை--as ெ and with ன making னொ. கொம்பூத--கொம்புபிடிக்க, inf. To blow a horn. கொம்புமுளைத்தவன்--கொம்பாபிள்ளை, s. [ironically.] A man of rank, wealth. 94)
சண்டி
caṇṭi (p. 158) s. A person lost to all sense of honesty and principle, a rogue, a stubborn, shameless person, நாணமில்லோன்; [from Sa, Chan'd'ha.] (c.) 2. W. p. 314. CHAN' D'HEE. An incarnation of Durga, to destroy Mahishásura, துர்க்கை. (p.) 3. A kind of tree, the leaves of which are medicinal; also used for food, ஓர்மரம். சண்டித்தனம், s. Shamelessness, foolhardiness, obstinacy. சண்டிப்பயல், s. A roguish fellow, a stubborn, fool-hardy fellow. சண்டிமாடு, s. A lazy untractable bullock or cow. 2. (fig.) A person as obstinate as a bullock. சண்டிக்கார், s. A kind of paddy which cannot be easily husked off (R.) சகசண்டி, s. See under சக. 14) *
தடி
tṭi (p. 222) s. A stick, staff, rod, தடிக்கொம்பு. 2. A club, a cudgel, bludgeon, தண்டம். 3. A rod or pole for measuring land, அள வுகோல். (c.) 4. A rice field, வயல். 5. Compartment of a rice field, பாத்தி. 6. A pestle, உலக்கை. 7. A bow, வில். 8. (a contraction of தடித்து.) Lightning, மின்னல். 9. Flesh, ஊன். 1. A guana, உடும்பு.--Note. There are different kinds of தடி--as இருப்புத் தடி, கிலுக்குத்தடி, குணுக்குத்தடி, சோட்டாத்தடி, நுகத் தடி, பாணாத்தடி, வளைதடி, which see severally. விறகுதடியாய்ப்போனான். He is greatly emaciated; (lit.) as fire-wood. [prov.] குயவனுக்குப் பலநாள்வேலை தடியடிக்காரனுக்குச்சற் றுநேரவேலை. Many day's work for the potter, but a few moment's for the breaker. தடிக்கம்பு, s. [loc. தடிக்கொம்பு.] A walking cane, or staff. தடிக்கம்புச்சாப்பாடு, v. noun. Flogging. See under சாப்பாடு. தடித்தனம், s. Rashness, passionateness, rudeness. தடிப்பயல், s. A stubborn person, a block-head. 2. A corpulent person. தடியடிக்காரன், s. A violent person, who acts inconsiderately. தடிமாடன், s. An impudent fellow; [ex மாடன், a demon.] தடியனாபிள்ளை--தடியாண்பிள்ளை, s. An impudent, or corpulent person. தடிபோட, inf. To measure by the long stick in the கிட்டிப்புள்ளு game. தடிமூக்குள்ளான், A kind of snipe. See உள்ளான். தடியன்--தடிமிண்டன், s. A stout, corpulent person, பருத்தவன். 2. A strong athletic man, ஆண்மையுடையவன். 3. An obstinate person, முருடன். குண்டாந்தடி, s. A baton. 6)

tṭṭai (p. 222) s. Stalk, stubble, அரிதாள். 2. Flatness, levelness, சமன். (c.) 3. Baldness, மொட்டை. 4. Sling, கவண். 5. A stick or rod to scare away parrots from the cornfields, கிளிகடிகோல். 6. Bambu, மூங்கில். (சது.) தட்டைச்சட்டி, s. A flattish pot. தட்டைத்தலை, s. A large flat head. (R.) தட்டைப்பயறு, s. A kind of bean. தட்டைப்பீங்கான், s. A flat China dish. தட்டைமூக்கு, s. A flat nose. தட்டையம்மை, s. A mild kind of small pox. 39)
தண்டுமிண்டு
tṇṭumiṇṭu (p. 223) v. noun. Obstinacy, stubbornness, insubordination, மூர்க்கம். (c.) தண்டுமிண்டுக்காரன், s. A stubborn, contumacious man. தண்டுமிண்டுபண்ண, inf. To be obstinate. 4) *

tāṟuāmṟu (p. 236) s. (Tel.) Confusion, derangement, disorder, ஒழுங்கின்மை. 2. Perverseness, contrariety, untractableness, stubbornness, முருட்டுத்தன்மை. 3. Impropriety. transgression, disorderly conduct, அதிக கிரமம். 4. Insolence, இறுமாப்பு. (c.) தாறுமாறாய்ப்பேச, inf. To give indirect answers. 2. To contradict one's self, to prevaricate. 3. To talk nonsence, to speak absurdities. 4. To abuse, to use affronting words, insuiting language. தாறுமாறானநடக்கை, s. Perverse, insolent, or disorderly conduct. தாறுமாறுக்காரன், s.
