Construction in which the lines of a stanza are interchangeable, the harmony and meaning remaining the same, or the harmony only slightly affected. [sing. அடியான்--அடி யாள்.] Slaves, servants as applied to devotees in reference to their deity, and used by persons of themselves in addressing superiors, to show respect, obedience or submission, தொண்டர். அடியிட, inf. One who has suppressed the five senses, or to whom the senses are subject. இது என்விசாரணைக்கமைந்த காரியம். It is a matter at my disposal. என்விருப்பத்திற்கமைந்தபடிநடந்தது. It has occurred to my satisfaction. சுகதுக்கம் ஊழின்படி அமையும். Good and evil are appointed according to former character. செயுநீர்மைசெய்யாதமைகலாவாறு. State and degree of consciousness, commencing with objective sensations and descending to subjective feeling and contemplation, the mind receding farther and farther from objective impressions and associations. Hindu physiologists fancy that the mind descends from its seat in the forehead to its other seats, the neck, breast, umbilicus and terminus rectum. (தத்துவக். சிவ. சி.) கீழிருக்க, inf. To lie under, to be under one's dominion or control. கீழாறு, s. A river under ground, பூமி யினுள்ளோடுமாறு. 2. A river in the Congu country, கொங்குதேசத்தாறு. கீழாறுகொண்டுபோயிற்று. The under ground river has carried it away--said of things lost without knowing how. கீழுக்குப்போக, inf. To be diminishes, to be reduced. அவன்புத்தியுங்கல்வியும்வரவரக்கீழுக்குப்போகி றது. His understanding and knowledge are more and more diminishing. கீழோங்கி, s. [prov.] An inferior class or fishermen--as distinguished from மே லோங்கி, a higher rank. கீழ்நோக்க, inf. To look downward, to tend downward, கீழ்ப்பார்க்க. 2. To be sensual, grovelling, to tend toward secularities, இழிவானதைவிரும்ப. 3. To grope, to feel one's way with the hands or feet as in the dark, to feel about, தெரியாமற்தடவ. 3. To anoint--as with liniment, to smear softly, to spread on lightly, எண்ணெய்முதலியதடவ. 4. To come stumbling and groping. தாடியைத்தடவ, inf. To stroke the chin as supplicating favors. வீடெல்லாந்தடவிப்பார். Search for it all over the house. எல்லாந்தடவிக்கொண்டுபோய்விட்டான். tṇi (p. 222) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், தணிய, v. n. To be allayed, mitigated, alleviated, softened, appeased, calmed, pacified, soothed, ஆற. 2. To abate, grow less, be reduced, குறைய. 3. One whose bodily health is restored after sickness. தணிந்திருக்க, inf. To be extinguished, as a fire; to be soothed as an exasperated mind, to be subdued as a mob, to be moderated as a fever; to be lower, &c., in height. பிள்ளையிப்பொழுதுதணிந்திருக்கிறது. The child is now well. தணிந்தவிலை, s. A low price, a reduced price. தணிந்தவேளை, s. The cooler time, as evening. தணிய, inf. (adverbially.) Humbly, submiss'vely, calmly, &c. தணிவு, v. noun. Abatement, mollification, mitigation, alleviation, diminution, தணிப்பு. 2. Calmness, submission, mildness, coolness, softness, சாந்தம், 3. Inferior in quality or performance, குறைவு. 4. Excessive trouble or labour; compulsory service, அநியாயதண்டம். தலையைக்கொடுக்க--தலைகொடுக்க, inf. To step forward in one's behalf, in a case of exigency. 2. To expose one's self to danger for another. தலையைச்சுற்றியெறிய, inf. To detest utterly; to reject with disgust, disdain and scorn. தலையைநடுக்க, inf. See தலைமடங்க. தலைவரி, s. Poll-tax. 2. Heading. தலைவலி--தலைநோ, s. Headache. இதுதலைவலிதான். This is a task uselessly imposed. தலைவலியுங்காய்ச்சலுந் தனக்குவந்தாலல்லோதெ ரியும். Headache and fever, are know to the sufferer; i. e. each one knows his own trials. தலைவழிய, inf. To over-flow, as a cup or vessel. தலைவறை, s. A head land, cape, promontory. (Rare.) தலைவன், s. (plu. தலைவர், தலைவமார்.) A chief, a head man. 2. A king, a ruler, a governor. 3. An elder brother. 4. A husband. 5. A superior, a senior. (சது.) 6. A guru. 7. A master. தலைவாசகம், s. Introduction of a writing; preface, salutation, &c. முகவுரை. தலைவாசல்--தலைவாயில்--தலைவாய்தல், s. The main gate to a city, castle, house, &c. தலைவாரை--தலைவாரைப்பட்டை, s. [prov.] A basket cap, as தலைப்பட்டை. தலைவாழையிலை, s. The top leaf of a plantain tree. தலைவி, s. (mas. தலைவன்.) A lady, a mistress, a matron. 2. A wife, மனைவி. தலைவிதி, s. Fate written in the head. See தலையெழுத்து. தலைவிரிகோலம், s. Dishevelled locks of persons in a fright, in sorrow, &c. தலைவிரிச்சான், appel. n. One with matted hair, தலைமயிர்முடியாதவன். 2. A plant, சாரணை. 3. The plant செருப்படை. தலைவிரிச்சான்கூட்டம், s. A nickname given to the female sex, ஸ்திரீசனம். தலைவிரிச்சான் கூட்டந் தடியெடுத்தாலோட்டம். An effeminate mob is routed with a staff. தலைவிலை, s. The first or harvest price of grain, when it is plentiful, &c. தலைவிழுவான், appel. n. He (his head) will lie low--an expression of ill will. தலைவெட்ட, inf. To strike off the measure. 2. To behead, to decapitate. 3. (fig.) To do a treacherous act. தலைவெட்டுகிறவன். A villain. தலைவெட்டுங்காரியமோ. Is it a capital crime? தலைவெட்டு, v. noun. The first cutting. தலைவைக்க, inf. To engage in, to interfere, &c. See தலையிட. தண்ணீர்பாத்தியில்வந்துதலைவைத்திட்டதா. Did the water run into the beds. இளந்தலை, s. A young man. பெருந்தலை, s. A great man. நனந்தலை, s. A medium, the middle. குடுமித்தலை--கொண்டைத்தலை--சட்டித்தலை-சுட்டித்தலை--பரட்டைத்தலை--மொட்டைத்தலை, which see in their places. 9)

tāṉam (p. 236) s. (Sa. Da'na.) Gift in charity, donation, grant, contribution--commonly with a religious motive, as a work of merit; meritorious alms being bestowed on special occasions, as at the birth of a child, at a funeral, at the last moment of life, &c., கொடை. 2. Liberality, munificence, bounty, ஈகை. 3. Benefit, succor, உதவி. 4. The rut of the elephant, யானைமதம். 5. (Sa. Ta'na.) A tune, இராகம். --Note. தானம், for the souls of deceased ancestors is made to some of the பிதிர் class of gods, regarded as representatives of those progenitors; பிதிர் gifts are called தியாகம். தானம், 3. Three kinds of gifts. 1. தலைப்படுதானம், this is to give what one has honestly acquired to such as are free from the three great vices, lust, anger and scepticism, and who addict themselves with cheerful submission to a virtuous life; and when giving, praying that the gift may be received, அறத்தா லீட்டியபொருளைமுக்குற்றமற்ற நற்றவத்தோரைக்கொ ள்கெனப்பணிந்து, குறையிரந்து, தம்முள்ளமுவந்தீ தல். 2. இடைப்படுதானம், bestowing through pity, &c. (See இடை.) 3. கடைப்படுதானம், the last and lowest kind of charity, is, bestowing alms from love of popularity or praise, the fear of losing favor, or mere kindness of disposition, சுயநலத்தைப் பற்றியீவது. தானம், 1. Ten kinds of gifts. See தசதானம். பசுவையடித்துப்புலிக்குத்தானங்கொடுக்கிறதா.... Would one kill a cow and make a present of it to a tiger? நீற்றுப்பூசணிக்காய்த்தானம், s. The gift of an ash-colored pumpkin, instead of the life of a sick person required by the configuration of the planets; also called, மிருத்துதானம், கூஷ்மாண்டதானம், and கூஷ்மாண்டம். This kind of pumpkin is never cut, it being supposed to possess life; when used for food, it is always broken. தானங்கொடுக்க, inf. To give alms. 2. To make donation, contributions, presents, &c. 3. To make donations to a guru or brahman in the last extremity. See தாசதானம். தானங்கொடுத்தபசு, s. A cow given to a brahman or to a temple, just before death. தானசீலன், s. A liberal, charitable man. தானதருமம்--தானதன்மம், s. Alms and presents. தானபத்திரம்--தானபத்திரிகை, s. A deed of gift. தானாதிகருமங்கள், s. Bestowing alms, and performing other religious rites and duties. 12) *

tāẕ (p. 235) --தாழு, கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், தாழ, v. n. To be, or to become low, to sink, to fall, to decline, குறைய. 2. (with accusative or dative.) To bow, to stoop, to do homage, to prostrate in reverence; to be humble, yielding, submissive; to carry one's self humbly, வணங்க. 3. To sink in circumstances, repute, &c., to decline in splendor or power; to decrease, diminish, decay, degenerate, deteriorate, சீர்கெட. 4. To decline--as the sun, சாய. (c.) 5. To be inlaid--as gold; to be set in--as colors; to abide in--as lustre in a gem, பதிய. 6. To tarry, delay, halt, to stop--as a business, தங்க. 7. To prove inferior, to be wanting, to fail in comparison, competition, battle, தோற்க. 8. To be indolent, lazy, சோம்ப. 9. To despond, to be dejected, மனஞ்சோர. 1. To hang down, to be suspended, தொங்க. 11. To desire, to be eager for, அவாவ. 12. (c.) To be deep, to deepen, ஆழ. 13. To sink as a balance, துலைதாழ. 14. To sink in water, அமிழ்ந்த. 15. To be engrossed in an object or pursuit, மனங்கவிய. 16. To slope, to slant, as a roof, &c., சரிய. தாழ்ந்ததுதங்கம்உயர்ந்ததுபித்தளை. Humility is esteemed as gold, proud manners are disdained as the bad stinking of brass. தாழ, inf. used adverbially. Down, below, beneath, low. வெயில்தாழவா. Come when the heat is abated, when the sun is low. தாழவிழ, inf. To fall down. தாழவிட, inf. To drop. தாழப்போக, inf. T descend. தாழாநட்பு, s. Unfailing or undiminished love, friendship, &c. (p.) தாழாமலிருக்க, inf. To be without humility; to be impatient. தாழாமை, s. Pride, haughtiness. தாழ்குழல், s. Pendent female locks. 2. A female. (p.) தாழ்சடை, s. Long, matted, dishevelled locks of an ascetic. தாழ்ந்தமாதிரி, s. An inferior kind. 2. Low conduct. தாழ்ந்தகுணம், s. A lowly temper, calm temper. தாழ்ந்தசாதி, s. A low caste. தாழ்ந்தபலன், s. Inferior reward, slight advantage, scanty profit. தாழ்ந்தபூமி, s. Low land. 2. Poor land, impoverished soil. தாழ்ந்தவயசு, s. Declining age. தாழ்ந்தவிலை, s. A low price. தாழ்ந்துகொடுக்க, inf. To yield, to submit in order to effect an object, or through affability. தாழ்ந்துபோக, inf. To fail in competition or comparison, 2. To degenerate in morals, character, &c. தாழ்வயிறு, s. A hanging belly, சரிந் தவயிறு. 15)

tāẕcci (p. 235) s. Meanness, baseness, vileness, கீழ்மை. 2. Inferiority, disparagement, subordination, தாழ்வு. 3. Lowliness, humbleness, submissiveness, தாழ்மை. 4. Deficiency, want, scarcity; arrears, குறைவு. 5. Deterioration, degradation, loss; decay of wealth, power, fame, &c., கேடு. 6. Dishonor, discredit, disgrace, இகழ்ச்சி. 7. Incompetency, inadequacy, ஏலாமை. 8. Failure in competition or in an enterprize, &c., தவறு. (c.) அதைத்தொட்டுத்தாழ்ச்சியில்லை. There is no impedimen from that. இதற்கதுதாழ்ச்சியாயிருக்கிறது. That is inferior to this. ஒன்றுதாழ்ச்சியாயிருக்கிறது. There is something wanting, it is defective in one respect. தாழ்ச்சிப்பட, s. To prove inferior, to be incompetent, to be in disgrace. சங்கைத்தாழ்ச்சி--மானத்தாழ்ச்சி, s. Dishonor, discredit, disgrace. மழைத்தாழ்ச்சி, s. Want of rain, little rain. 17)
