tngku (p. 221) கிறேன், தங்கினேன், வேன், தங்க, v. n. To stay, to sojourn, to lodge, to halt, to wait, to stand still, வைக. 2. To rest, to be seated, to have a place, residence, &c., ஓய்ந்திருக்க. 3. To cease to flow, as the menses; to be obstructed in its course, as water; to be stopped, as a floating thing or a car; to be fixed as substance between the teeth; to adhere, or inhere, தடைபட. 4. To hesitate in speaking, தாமதிக்க. 5. To be reserved or kept back, to remain due, இருப்பாயிருக்க. 6. To rely or depend on, to be dependent, சார்ந்திருக்க. 7. Nothing remains in his bowels. தங்கித்தங்கிவாசிக்க, inf. To read with hesitation, difficulty, stopping, &c. தங்கிநின்றமழை, s. [prov.] Rain after cessation and drought. தங்கிவிழ, inf. To be impeded in falling--as fruits, &c., and then to fall afterwards. தங்கு, v. noun. Staying, stopping, தங் குதல். தங்குகடலுக்குப்போக--தங்குதோணிக் குப்போக, inf. [prov. vul.] To go on a fishing trip for a few days. தங்குதடை, s. Hesitation, impediment, (c.) தங்குதண்ணீர், s. Water lodged in hollows after rain, &c. 2. Water collected in a well. 3. Irrigation of a field or garden, after a lapse of the proper time. 4. Water lodged on foliage, roofs, &c, and then dropping. கூரைத்தண்ணீர். 5. Water impeded for a time and then flowing with force, on the removal of the obstruction. தங்குதண்ணீரிறைக்க, inf. [prov.] To irrigate after some delay. தங்குதரி--தங்குதரிப்பு, v. noun. Stopping, halting; impediment, a pleonastic form. See தரி. தங்குதுறை, s. [prov.] A port at which a vessel touches. தங்குவலை, s. [prov.] A temporary canopy, erected in different places of a main street, in honor of an idol taken in procession; that, in passing under, the god may cast upon it a gracious eye. (c.) திருக்கலியாணம், s. The marriage of a god or idol. திருக்கழுக்குன்றம், s. The name of a mountain sacred to Siva. திருக்காட்சி, s. The sight or appearance of a deity or great person. See காட்சி. திருக்காளத்தி, s. A famous town. See காளத்தி, ஷ்ரீகாளஸ்தி. திருக்குளம், s. The sacred tank of a temple where the idol is bathed. திருக்கூட்டம், s. The fraterity of the worshippers of Siva. திருக்கூத்து--திருநடனம், s. The dancing of Siva, or other deity; or, mystically, the operations of nature. 2. (fig.) Trick, device. திருக்கோணாமலை--திருக்குன்றாமலை, s. [prop. திரிகோணமலை.] Trincomalie. திருக்கோயில் s. A temple, a place of worship, a sacred shrine. திருக்கோலம், s. Splendid decoration, magnificent display. திருச்சபை, s. Among Saivas, a sacred assembly at Madura or Chillumbrum. 2. (Chris. usage.) The church, or society of believers. திருச்சித்தம், s. A ceremony among Vaishnuvas on removing a dead body from the house. திருச்செந்தூர்--திருச்சீரலைவாய், s. A town near Ramisseram, one of the six places sacred to Subramanya. திருச்செவி, s. The ear of a great, or divine person. திருத்தொண்டர், s. (plu.) Servants of the deity, especially sixty-three devotees of Siva. திருத்தொண்டு, s. Meritorious services performed to a deity. திருநடனம், s. See திருக்கூத்து. திருநயனம், s. The eyes of deity or a holy person, as திருக்கண். திருநாமக்கத்திரி, s. A kind of snake, ஓர்பாம்பு. திருநாமச்செடி, s. A plant, Artemisia vulgaris, L. திருநாமத்துத்தி, s. A plant, ஓர்செடி. திருநாமப்பாலை, s. A plant, ஓர்பூடு, Periploca tunicata, L. திருநாமம், s. A sacred name, the name of a deity or holy person. 2. The Vaishnuva sectarian mark on the forehead. 3. A divine song. திருநாளைப்போவார், appel. n. One of the sixty-three devotees of Siva. திருநாள், s. A religious festival, a great or special day, a holy day. திருநீலகண்டன், s. A large kind of centiped, ஓர்பூரான். 2. One of the sixtythree devotees of Siva, சிவனடியாரிலொரு வன். 3. A very wicked man. திருநீறு, s. (also விபூதி.) Sacred ashes of burnt cowdung, one of the chief marks of the Saiva sect. திருநீறணிய--திருநீறிட--திருநீறுபூச, inf. To rub sacred ashes on the forehead, breast, &c. திருநீறுசுட--திருநீறுவிளைவிக்க, inf. To make sacred ashes. திருநீற்றுக்காப்பு, s. Sacred ashes rubbed on one's forehead by a great person as a charm or for benefit to the soul. 2. As திருநீறு. திருநீற்றுக்கோயில்--திருநீற்றுப்பை, s. A bag for sacred ashes. திருநீற்றுப்பச்சை--திருநீற்றுப்பத்திரி, s. A species of fragrant ever-green shrub used for perfuming the திருநீறு, also medicinal sweet Basil, உருத்திரசடைப்பூடு, Ocymun basilicum, L. திருநீற்றுப்பழம், s. Balls of sacred ashes. திருநீற்றுமடல், s. A metal stand in a temple with an urn like the sheaths of a pine flower, for sacred ashes. திருநெல்வேலி, s. A town south of Madura, Tinnevelly, ஓர்பட்டணம். திருநெற்றிமாலை, s. A garland for the forehead of an idol. திருநோக்கு, s. The gracious look of the deity, or a great person. 2. The official look of the guru in the administration of the தீட்சை. திருப்படைவீடு, s. Places sacred to Siva, Vishnu, &c., who are supposed to be present with their retinue at their respective shrines. திருப்பணி, s. Service in an idol temple, கோயிற்சேவகம். 2. Work on the temple as masonry, carpentry, &c., கோயில்வேலை. திருப்பணிமுட்டு, s. Materials, &c., for building a temple. திருப்பதி, s. Tripaty, a place sacred to Vishnu. (See வடமலை and திசை.) 2. Any one of the one-hundred and eight Vishnu shrines, விஷ்ணுஸ்தலம். திருப்பரங்குன்று, s. A hill west of Madura, one of the six places sacred to Subramanya, சுப்பிரமணியர்ஸ்தலம். திருப்பரம், s. Boiled rice, சோறு--a word used by brahmans only, குழூஉக்குறி. திருப்பள்ளி, s. A place of repose, especially of an image, சயனதலம். திருப்பள்ளிகொள்ள, inf. To rest, especially spoken of an idol. திருப்பள்ளித்தாமம், s. Garlands for the idol, கோயிற்பூமாலை. திருப்பள்ளியெழுச்சி, v. noun. The early rising of the god--a song daily sung to awaken the god, especially of a festival of ten days in December; also sung by the people on these days to rouse one another to their religious duties, ஓர்பிர பந்தம். திருப்பாடல், s. A hymn, a sacred song. திருப்பாட்டு, s. Hymns or songs in praise of a deity, commonly ancient. 2. [in irony.] A satire, lampoons. திருப்பாவாடை, s. A long cloth on which offerings of rice are presented to idols. திருப்புகழ், s. Songs, odes in praise of a god. திருப்பூட்டு, v. noun. Putting on the wedding badge, as the essential part of marriage, தாலிகட்டுகை. 2. The wedding badge, தாலி. திருமகள்--திருமாது, s. Lukshmi. திருமகண்மைந்தன், s. Kama; [ex மைந் தன், son.] திருமஞ்சனம், s. Daily bathing of the idol, for its purification. திருமஞ்சனமாட்டல், v. noun. Bathing an idol. திருமண், s. Sacred earth used by Vaishnuvas in marking their foreheads, as . திருமயிலை, s. Absolute deity, the matchless deity. தனிக்காட்டுராசா, s. A sole sovereign in a jungle. (c.) தனிக்காப்பு, s. An invocation, comprized in a single verse. தனிக்குடி, s. (also ஒன்றிக்குடி.) A solitary family. 2. One family of a caste, living among other castes. 3. Keeping house separately, as distinguished from living under the paternal roof. தனிக்குடை, s. The umbrella of an autocrat; (fig.) absolute sovereignty, தனியாசாட்சி. தனிக்குடைநிழற்ற. To spread the imperial umbrella, to govern. (p.) தனிக்குறில்--தனிக்குற்றெழுத்து, s. A single short consonant. தனிக்கோலான், s. He whose government is incomparable, the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. An independent sovereign. (p.) தனிச்சமையல், v. noun. Cooking for a single person, for one's self only, &c., தனிச்செய்கை, v. noun. Cultivating land alone, not jointly with others. தனிச்சொல், s. (Bab. Gram. p. 8.) A detached foot in வெண்பா and other verse, between two lines, தனிச்சீர். 2. A single or uncombined word. தனித்தனியே, adv. Individually, separately, each one singly, each alone. --Note. The ஏ is often added whether தனி be repeated or not--as தனியே. தனித்தாட்டன், s. [prov.] A large monkey that keeps distinct from, or goes before, the drove. தனித்தியலிடுகுறிப்பெயர், s. A specific name, including many individuals, or some varieties. தனித்தேட்டம், s. Amassing wealth alone, without the burden of a family. தனிநிலை, s. Solitariness, தனி்துநிற் கை. 2. (in gram.] The letter ஃ, ஆய்த வெழுத்்து. தனிப்பட, inf. [adverbially.] To be alone, to be left alone, to be forseken. 2. To be solitary. 3. To be kept alone as witnesses and prisoners, or apart, detached--as persons, or animals. (c.) தனிப்படச்சொல்லுகிறேன். I will tell you in secret. தனிப்பட்டு, s. A single or distinct fold, plait, strand or string, one out of several folds of a necklace. 2. (c.) Silk only, all silk. தனிப்பயணம், s. Travelling alone, as தனிவழி. தனிப்பன்றி, s. A wild boar alone, as more ferocious and dangerous than others. தனிப்பாடு, v. noun. Loneliness, solitude. தனிமை. 2. Bearing the whole labor, responsibility, &c., alone, முழப் பொறுப்பு. (c.) தனிப்பாட்டு, s. A single verse unconnected with a series, விடுபாட்டு. தனிப்பால், s. Pure, unadulterated milk. (c.) தனிப்புரக்க, inf. To reign alone, to be an autocrat, தனியரசாள. (p.) தனிப்புறம், s. A solitary place, or state. (c.) தனிப்பூடு, s. An onion, or other bulbous root not divided. தனிப்பெற, inf.
