aṭṭātuṣṭm (p. 9) --அட்டாதுஷ்டி, s. Abuse of power, overbearing cruelty, atrocity, insubordination, அடாததுஷ்டத்தனம். (c.) 9) *

Most of the meanings of this word have reference to the mind. சாஸ்திரத்திற்கமைந்துநடக்கிறவன், He is one who obeyed the shasters. ஐம்புலனமைந்தவன், s. One who has suppressed the five senses, or to whom the senses are subject. இது என்விசாரணைக்கமைந்த காரியம். It is a matter at my disposal. என்விருப்பத்திற்கமைந்தபடிநடந்தது. It has occurred to my satisfaction. சுகதுக்கம் ஊழின்படி அமையும். Good and evil are appointed according to former character. செயுநீர்மைசெய்யாதமைகலாவாறு. Owing to dissatisfaction at inability to do charity. (குறள். 22. அதி.) அமையவுண்மின். Eat enough. இரட்சிப்பு இறைவனுக்கமைந்தது. Salvation is of God. அமையாமை, neg. v. noun. Unsubmission, insubordination, disquietness, unfitness, கீழ்ப்படியாமை. அமைவு, v. noun. Subjection, subordination, acquiescence, பொருந்துகை. 2. To overturn, upset, capsize; to overthrow, to defeat. கீழறுக்க, inf. To burrow, to excavate, to make a subterranean passage, to undermine, பூமியிற் சுரங்கஞ்செய்ய. 2. (fig.) To undermine, to injure by any underhand, clandestine means, சதிசெய்ய. கீழறை, s. An under-ground room, a cellar, நிலவறை. 2. A cavern, a cell, a hole or passage under ground, வளை. கீழாக, inf. To become depressed, to sink--as a stalk, a heap of muck, &c.; to deteriorate, to waste--as the body by use or disease; or as property, &c., தாழ் வடைய. கீழாக--கீழாய s. Under, below, beneath. கீழாயிருக்க, inf. To be below, to be mean, to be inferior. கீழாலவத்தை, s. 'Descending states of the soul.' State and degree of consciousness, commencing with objective sensations and descending to subjective feeling and contemplation, the mind receding farther and farther from objective impressions and associations. Hindu physiologists fancy that the mind descends from its seat in the forehead to its other seats, the neck, breast, umbilicus and terminus rectum. (தத்துவக். சிவ. சி.) கீழிருக்க, inf. To lie under, to be under one's dominion or control. கீழாறு, s. A river under ground, பூமி யினுள்ளோடுமாறு. 2. A river in the Congu country, கொங்குதேசத்தாறு. கீழாறுகொண்டுபோயிற்று. The under ground river has carried it away--said of things lost without knowing how. கீழுக்குப்போக, inf. To be diminishes, to be reduced. அவன்புத்தியுங்கல்வியும்வரவரக்கீழுக்குப்போகி றது. His understanding and knowledge are more and more diminishing. கீழோங்கி, s. [prov.] An inferior class or fishermen--as distinguished from மே லோங்கி, a higher rank. கீழ்நோக்க, inf. To look downward, to tend downward, கீழ்ப்பார்க்க. 2. To be sensual, grovelling, to tend toward secularities, இழிவானதைவிரும்ப. 3. To be on the decline--as to wealth, &c.; to go to ruin, to come to naught, தாழ்வடைய. கீழ்நோக்கித்திட்ட--கீழ்நோக்கியேச inf. To use obscene language, to assail with very indecent speech. கீழ்நோக்கு--கீழ்நோக்கம் v. noun. Looking downward, downward tendency, கீழ்ப்பார்வை. 2. Low or grovelling pursuits, a base inclination; underhand, clandestine purpose. கீழ்மேலாக, adv. Upside down. கீழ்ப்பட, inf. To be subdued, to yield, to be submissive, to become inferior, கீழ்ப்படிய. 2. To be subject, to be subordinate, to submit to, அடங்க. 3. To be degraded, mean, base, இழிவுபட. கீழ்ப்படிய--கீழ்ப்பணிய inf. To submit, to yield, to obey. கீழ்ப்படியாத்தனம்--கீழ்ப்படியாமை, s. Disobedience, insubordination. கீழ்ப்படிவு, v. noun. Submission, obedience, subordination, subjection, கீழ்ப்ப ணிவு. 2. Docility, tractableness, அமைவு. கீழ்ப்படுத்த--கீழ்ப்படியப்பண்ண, inf. To subdue, to subject, to subordinate, to subjugate, to quell, அடக்க. 2. To lower, to bring down, to reduce, தாழ்வுபடு த்த. 3. To degrade, ஈனப்படுத்த. கீழ்நோக்கினநட்சத்திரம், s. [in astro.] A lunar mansion looking downward-opposed to மேனோக்கினநட்சத்திரம். They are twelve in number. (உள்ளமு.) கீழ்நோக்கினராசி, s. [in astrol.] A zodiacal sign which looks downward.-Note. These signs, as well as the கீழ்நோக் கினநட்சத்திரம், are favorable for planting esculent roots and digging wells. கீழ்மேற்றென்வடல், s. The east, west, north and south. 42)

This disease will yield to medicine. எளியாரை வலியார் கேட்டால் வலியாரைத்தெய்வங் கேட்கும். If the powerful oppress the poor, God will hear them. பொல்லாதமனங்கேளாது. The wicked heart will not obey. கேட்டுங்கேளாதிருக்க, inf. To pretend not to hear. 2. To slight, disregard, not to mind. கேட்டுநிற்க, inf. To beg, pray, solicit, ask favors. 2. To require, demand. கேட்டுவிசாரிக்க, inf. To make inquiry about, inquire into, to examine. கேட்பார்பேச்சுக்கேட்க, inf. To listen to every one's advice; to be duped. கேளாச்செவி, s. Neglect, disregard, inattention to worldly pleasures; lit. an unlistening ear, உலக காரியங்களைக்கேளாத செவி. காணாக்கண்ணாய் கேளாச்செவியாய்ப்போய்விட் டான். He has gone away unseen and unheard. கேளாதகேள்வி, s. A question not to be asked; indecent, unbecoming language. சொற்கேட்க, inf. To obey one's word; to be obedient. நூல்கேட்க, inf. To read a book, or learn a science under a teacher. புராணங்கேட்க, inf. To hear the Puranas--as at a temple. பெண்கேட்க, inf. To solicit a girl of her friends in marriage. பொருள்கேட்க, inf. To ask for a thing. 2. To inquire after the meaning of a passage, &c. வழக்குகேட்க, inf. To inquire into or try a cause. கேளாமை, neg. v. noun. Disregard, inattention; disobedience, intractableness, insubordination, சொல்வார்த்தைகேளாமை. கேளார், s. Enemies, foes, பகைவர். கேள்வி, v. noun. Hearing--the sense of the act, கேட்கை. 2. The curllike symbol in certain compound characters--as in நெ, பொ, &c., அக்கரத்தின்கோடு. 8. The bent front pole of a palankeen, சிவி கையின்கொம்பு. 9. (fig.) Eminence, greatness, மேன்மை. 1. (loc.) The outlet of a tank, ஏரிக்கோடி. பறக்குங்குருவிக்கு இருக்குங்கொம்புதெரியாது, பரதே சிக்குத்தங்குமிடந்தெரியாது. The migrating bird knows not the branch on which it may roost; and the pilgrim known not his halting place. பழுத்தபழங்கொம்பிலிராது. The ripe fruit remains not on the branch; i. e., at the appointed time, the event will happen. பிடித்தகொம்புமொடிந்துமிதித்தகொம்புமுறிந்தாற்போ லானேன். I was like a man in whose hands and under whose feet the branches had given way; i. e. I was without support. கொம்புசுற்றிக்காற்றடிக்கிறது. The wind blows and whirls around every branch. ஏதுகொம்புமுளைத்துவிட்டதோ. Have his horns grown? used when a person shows pride,insubordination, &c. கொம்படிக்க, inf. To butt--as oxen, buffaloes, rams, goats, &c. 2. (fig.) To assume authority, to be supercilious. கொம்பனையாள்--கொம்பனாள், s. She whose waist is as tender and narrow as the stem of flower. [prov.] An ox with long white horns. பவளக்கொம்பன், s. An elephant whose tusks resemble coral in color. பிடிக்கொம்பன், s. Short-horned beast. மாடைக்கொம்பன், s. A bullock with horns bent backwards. முத்துக்கொம்பன், s. An elephant whose tusks, in color, resemble pearl. விரிகொம்பன், s. An ox with spreading horns. கொம்புக்காரன், s. [prov. கொம்பூதி.] A horn blower. கொம்புக்கால், s. The ெ with ா--as ெ-ா, with க--making கொ. கொம்புகாலி, s. [prov.] A palankeen bearer; a term of reproach. கொம்புப்பிறை, s. tāẕcci (p. 235) s. Meanness, baseness, vileness, கீழ்மை. 2. Inferiority, disparagement, subordination, தாழ்வு. 3. Lowliness, humbleness, submissiveness, தாழ்மை. 4. tur (p. 249) s. A prefix used in combination signifying evil, ill, bad, deficient; it is often changed to ற், before the hard letters, to ன் before the soft, as துன்மார்க்கம். Before இடையினம், there is no change. Sometimes ர் is dropped and the relative letter takes its place--as துச்சரிதம், ஒருபசர்க் கை. (See துஷ்.) W. p. 414. DUR. துரதிஷ்டம், s. Ill luck. A wicked life, bad course, கெட்டநடை. 2. (also துர்கதி.) Hell, நரகம். துர்க்கந்தம், s. (also துற்கந்தம்.) Offensive smell, stink, கெட்டநாற்றம். துர்க்கருமம்-துர்க்கன்மம்-துஷ்கருமம், s. Evil actions either in performance, or as accumulated and attaching to the soul. துர்க்கன்மபரிபாகம்--துஷ்கன்மபரிபா கம், s. Ripening or exhaustion of the evil actions of former births. துர்க்கீர்த்தி, s. Ill fame, infamy. துர்க்குணம், s. (also துற்குணம்.) Bad disposition, ill humor, a vicious course, தீக்குணம். துர்க்குணன், s. A vicious, wicked man, தீயன். துர்க்குறி, s. Evil omen, bad sign, unfavorable symptom, ominous gesture. துர்ச்சரிதம், s. (more properly, துச்சரி தம்.) Evil practice, evil courses. துர்ச்சனம், s. Badness, viciousness, maliciousness, mischief, வன்மம். 2. Lewdness, lasciviousness, wantonness, மோக லீலை. 3. Insubordination, refractoriness, rebellion of a youth or dependant, &c., செருக்கு. துர்ச்சனநடத்தை--துர்ச்சனவியோகம், s. Vicious conduct, a vicious course. துர்ச்சனன், s. A petulant or insolent man. துர்ச்சனனைக்கண்டால்தூரவிலகு...... Abstain from an insolent person. துர்ச்செய்கை, s. Evil action. துர்ச்சொப்பனம், s. (also துச்சொப்ப னம்.] A bad or ominous dream. துர்த்தேவதை, s. A malignant demon. துர்ப்பலம், s. Weakness, feebleness, thinness, emaciation, பலவீனம். 2. (fig.) The state of being reduced in circumstances, சிறுமை. முன்னமேதுர்ப்பலைஅதிலுங்கர்ப்பிணி. Before weak, and now also pregnant; or poor, and under a heavy fine. துர்ப்பலன், s. Ill result as predicted in astrology. அமங்கலப்பயன். 2. Bad fruit, ill consequence. துர்ப்பாக்கியம்--தௌர்ப்பாக்கியம், s. Evil, calamity, ill-luck, misery, நிர்ப்பாக் கியம். துர்ப்பிட்சம்--துர்ப்பிக்ஷம், s. Famine, பஞ்சம். See பிட்சம். துர்ப்பீசம், s. An illegitimate child, வம்புப்பிள்ளை. See பீசம். துர்ப்புத்தி, s.
