uy (p. 63) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To live as man, beast, or vegetables; to subsist, survive, revive or flourish--as trees, plants, &c., சீவிக்க. 2. (p.) To obtain benefits, privileges, &c.; to be blessed, to be happy, to prosper, flourish, to be relieved from distress, oppression, suffering, &c., உயிர்வாழ. 3. To obtain heavenly bliss, to gain exemption from transmigration, ஈடேற. 4. To escape from dangers, wild beasts, &c., to flee from, தப்ப. உய்கதியால்--உய்தடி, s. A live hedge-stick. உய்தவம், s. Austerities leading to bliss. உய்பயிர், s. Thriving crops, trees, &c. 2. (fig.) A person in thriving circumstances. உய்வனவு, v. noun. [prov.] Flourishing or reviving as a tree, செழிப்பு. 2. Living, subsistence, maintenance, சீவனம். 3. s. Means of attaining eternal bliss, ஈடேற்றம். This word properly must be உய்வு. உய்விக்க, inf. To save alive, cause to live, prosper, flourish, &c. This is the causative of உய். உய்வு--உய்தி, v. noun. Enjoyment of life, prosperity, felicity, உயிர்வா ழ்வு. 2. Bliss, salvation, ஈடேற்றம். 3. Living, life as spoken auspiciously, உயிர்க்கை. ஒருவன்செய்நன்றிகொன்றார்க்குய்தியில்லெனவ றம்பாடின்றே. The divine laws declare that to the ungrateful there is no happiness here or hereafter. uẕai (p. 67) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. [col. for உழத்து.] To earn, gain by labor, procure by industry, to acquire, வருந்தியீட்ட. 2. v. n. To labor hard, toil, strive, drudge, ply, வேலையிற்பிர யாசப்பட. 3. (p.) To sound--as talk, buzz, clamor, இரைய. 4. To suffer, endure hardships, to be afflicted, துன்பமுற. கல்வியிலேமிகவுமுழைக்கிறான். He is very diligent and successful in study. நானுழைத்தஉடைமையிலேதின்கிறேன். I live by my own earnings. உழைத்தபுண்ணியம், s. Acquired merit. உழைத்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To labor for nothing, or in vain. வயிற்றுக்குழைக்க, inf. To labor for one's maintenance. 2. To procure support by labor. உழைப்பு, v. noun. Hand-labor, toil, industry, diligence, பிரயாசம். 2. Earnings, gain, profit of labor, toil, or industry, thriving, thriftiness, வருந்தி யீட்டுகை. 3. Endeavors, exertions, energy, close application, முயற்சி. உழைப்பின்வாராவுறுதிகளுளவோகழப்பின்வாராக் கையறவுளவோ? Is there any good to be obtained without exertion? Is there any evil that may not arise from indolence? அவருக்கிலக்கணத்திலேநல்லவுழைப்பு. His application and success in the study of belles-lettres are great. உழைப்பாளி, s. Being ruined, undone or destroyed. குடிகெடுக்க--குடியைக்கெடுக்க, inf. TO destroy or ruin a family. குடிகேடன்--குடிகேடி, s. One who ruins a family. 2. the ruiner of a family, being one of the number. குடிகேடு, s. Ruin to a family; an unavoidable ruin. குடிகொள்ள, inf. The special servants in the above are the barber, washerman, black-smith, carpenter and grave-digger. குடிமதிப்பு, s. Assessment, valuation of property for taxation. குடிமார்க்கம்--குடிமுறை, s. Domestic life. 2. Proper conduct as a householder. குடிமிராசி--குடிமிராசு, s. The right or privilege of a hereditary occupant. குடிமிராசிகொடுக்க, inf. To endue with particular மிராசு privileges. குடிமை, s. Customs or manners of the higher classes, மேற்குலத்தார்நடக்கை. 2. Lineage, family, descent. குடிவரலாறு. 3. Vassalage, servitude, feudal dependence, feudal right or cunnexion; a feudatory in reference to his chief. (See குடிமக்கள்.) --Note. The chief is entitled to the service of his feudatory whenever required, and the latter to a proportion of the produce of the land, to perquisites at weddings, funerals, &c. 4. To ruin a family. குடியழிய, inf. v. n. To be buried or ruined--as a family. குடியழிவு, v. noun. Ruin of a family. 2. A great evil, often hyperbolically used. குடியானவன், s. An inhabitant; emphatically a caste man, one not of a low caste. குடியியல்பு, s. Domestic life, family management. 2. Domestic order, domestic rules of management. குடியிருப்பு, s. Living--as a family, or an inhabitant; residing, குடியிருக்கை. 2. An inhabited, settled, or populated place, a village, கிராமம். 3. The parts of a village inhabited by different castes respectively. The name of the caste is commonly prefixed --as செட்டிகுடியிருப்பு, a chitties' village. குடியிறங்க, inf. To settle, tarry or halt --as a family or a tribe. குடியிற்பிறந்தவன், s. One born of a good family. குடியிற்பிறந்து குரங்காட்டமாடுதல். Being born of a good family, and falling into disgrace by bad conduct. குடியிற்பிறந்து செடியில்விழுந்தான். He was born of a good family, but married low; lit. fell into the bush. குடியெழும்ப, inf. To evacuate a house, village, &c., commonly from some unlucky and disastrous event, or anticipation. குடிவாங்க--குடிவாங்கிப்போக, inf. To remove from a place--as a family; to abandon a dwelling. 2. To migrate, to emigrate--as a family. குடியேற, inf. To settle in a new country, to colonize, to people. குடியேற்ற, inf. v. a. To settle people in a country, to stock with inhabitants, to people, to populate. குடிவாழ்க்கை, v. noun. Domestic economy, house-keeping. 2. Regulation of a household. குடிவிளங்கப்பண்ண, inf. To render a family illustrious' and prosperous. குடிவைக்க-குடியிருத்த, inf. To settle or establish a family. 2. To provide a family with the means of sustenance. சிறந்தகுடி, s. kumari (p. 122) s. A girl, arrived at maturity and unmarried; a lass, பருவமுடையவள். 2. A virgin, a maid, கன்னியை. 3. A youthful daughter, புதல்வி. 4. The name of the daughter of Bharata, to whose share the southern division of Bharatavarsha or India fell, and from whom the southern extremity of the peninsula was called Cape Comorin or Kumari, பரதன்மகள். 5. Unfadingness, imperishableness, unchanging youthfulness, அழிவின்மை. 6. The wild aloe. (See கற்றாழை.) 7. kuyil (p. 124) s. Words; declamation, சொல். 2. The Koil or Indian cuckoo, a bird celebrated in Indian poetry for the sweetness of its notes, ஓர்பறவை. It is said to lay its eggs in a crow's nest, and leave them to be hatched and the young reared. There are two species; the black and the striped; [ex குயில், to utter.] (See கருங்குயில், புள்ளிக் குயில், or வரிக்குயில்.) 3. A tube, pipe, a hollow cylinder, துளையுடைப்பொருள். அவள்பாடுகிறதுகுயில்கூவுகிறதுபோலிருக்கிறது.... She sings as a cuckoo. குயில்கூவ, inf. To sing, to warble--as the குயில். 2. Pain in the body, sickness. சரீரசஞ்சலம், s. Disease, ailment. சரீரசம்ரட்சணை, s. Preservation of the health of the body, nourishment of the body. (Rare.) சரீரசம்பந்த, adj. Belonging or relating to the body. சரீரசவுக்கியம், s. Health, sound state of the body. சரீரசுத்தி, s. Cleanliness, or purification of the body. சரீரஸ்மரணை, s. [com. சரீரசுரணை.] Sense of feeling in the body. சரீரத்திரயம், s. A three-fold enumeration of bodies, as given in the Agama. 1. தூலசரீரம், the gross body which perishes at death. 2. சூக்குமசரீரம், the subtile or ethereal body, or case and immediate organ of the soul, accompanying that through its various transmigrations. It is the embryo or seed of the respective bodies assumed to be, and is, capable of sensations in enjoyment, suffering, &c., beyond those of the grosser body. 3. காரணசரீரம், the original type or embryo of the body, as existing with the soul in its original state. See under காரணம். Another three-fold classification describes bodies as assumed by the soul with its சூக்குமம் adapted to three different states to which it is subject, namely. 1. யாதனாசரீரம், a body adapted to suffering, assigned to the soul for its abode in the infernal regions. 2. பூத னாசரீரம், a body capable of the sensual felicities of சுவர்க்கம், or the abode of Indra. 3. பரிணாமசரீரம், changeable bodies, the bodies of the present state, in which moral actions are performed. சரீரநோய், s. Pains in the body from over exertion, walking, cold, &c. சரீரபுஷ்டி, s. Corpulency. 2. A healthy, thriving state of the body. சரீரப்போக்கு--சரீரப்போங்கு, s. The state of the body; different states of constitution. சரீரமரணம், s. [in Christ. usage.] Death of the body, oppo. to ஆத்துமமரணம், spiritual death. சரீரவதை, s. Mortifying the body by austere penance. சரீரவாகு--சரீரவாக்கு, s. The temperament of the body. சரீரவுபாதி, s. Bodily pain. சரீரவுறவு, s. Consanguinity, oppo. to ஞானவுறவு. (p.) சரீராவச்சின்னவான்மா, s. The individuated soul as it exists in bodies respectively--as distinguished or detached from the universal spirit, சீவான்மா; [ex சரீரம், et அவச்சின்னம், separated.] (சது.) சரீரி, s. A sentient soul, a corporeal being--oppo. to அசரீரி, an immaterial existence. சுகசரீரம், s. A healthy constitution, in which the three humors are in equilibrium. தூலீத்தசரிரம், s. To be plentiful, fertile, மாண்புற. 4. To be cheerful, முகமலர. (c.) செழித்ததீமை--செழித்தநாடு--செழித் தபூமி, s. A fertile, or fruitful country. 2. A plentiful country. செழித்தமழை--செழிப்பானமழை, s. A plentiful and seasonable rain. செழித்தமுகம், s. A cheerful, healthy look. செழிப்பு, v. noun. Fertility, luxuriance, thriving, flourishing, prosperousness, செழிப்பம். 2. Plenteousness, abundance, copiousness, நிறைவு. கையிற் கொஞ்சம் செழிப்புள்ளவன். He is a man of some property. செழிப்பாய்்வளர, inf. To thrive, grow luxuriantly. செழிப்பானகாலம், s. To flourish, as a family, people, state, &c., to multiply, to increase and prove lasting, வாழ. ஆல்போல்தழைத்துஅறுகுபோல்வேரோடிமூங்கில் போல்சுற்றமுசியாமல்வாழ்ந்திருப்பீர். May you prosper spreading like the banyan, taking root like the Agrostis linearis grass, and, surrounded by supports like the bambu, never fade away; a form of benediction to a young married couple. அன்புதழைக்க--அன்புதழைய, inf. [in gram.] An empatic, ஏ, or மன்ற, as expressive of certainty, emphasis, &c., தேற்றக்குறிப்பு. 4. Recovery from sorrow, &c., as தேற்றரவு. 5. Comfort, as தேறல். 6. Thriving, firmness, good growth, செழிப்பு. ஆள்தேற்றமாயிருக்கிறான். The person has gained strength, flesh, &c. தேற்றக்குறிப்பு--தேற்றப்பொருள், s. See தேற்றல். தேற்றங்கொடுக்க, inf. To comfort, console, encourage. 2. To gain or recover strength, grow stout and firm, to thrive as persons, beasts, &c. 3. To recover from dejection, to be cheerful as தெளிவுகொடுக்க. தேற்றஞ்செய்ய, தேற்றம்பண்ண, inf. To comfort, console, encourage. தேற்றமாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak comfortably. தேற்றமானபயிர், s. pli (p. 301) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To take effect, to yield results or fruit, to succeed, வாய்க்க. 2. To produce good or evil, as trade, &c., as இலபிக்க; [ex பலம்.] ஒன்றாயிரமாய்ப்பலிக்கும். One will produce a thousand. மருந்துபலிக்கவில்லை. The medicine did not take effect. பலித்தபயிர், s. A thriving crop. பலித்தல்--பலிப்பு, v. noun. Advantage; good or bad result. 2. Profit, success, பயன். 3. Result of good or evil deeds as experienced in this life, நன்மைதீ மைகளின்பலிப்பு.-- Note.
