Self-importance, self-will, conceit of doing some thing one's self, instead of ascribing all transactions, to the deity; in which sense, it is one of the three evil principles or மலம், in which the soul is involved from eternity, and by which it is excited to the performance of moral actions and kept from union with the deity. These must be subjected and annihilated, for the soul's liberation, by the அருள் of the deity. It is used as a means of benefit to the soul, as the acid in fruit becomes a luscious juice, மும்மலத்தொன்று; [ex ஆள்.] 2. See பிங்கலை. இடைக்கட்டு, s. A girdle, sash. 2. The allowance made for the weight of a vessel before weighing any thing in it. இடைக்காடன், s. A Rishi or சித்தன்--one of the eighteen. இடைக்கிடை. Here and there, interspersed, நடுநடுவே. 2. Of like weight, even weight, equilibrium, நிறைக்குநிறை இடைக்குலநாதன், s. Vishnu as brought up by shepherds. இடைக்குறை, s. [in grammar.] A word shortened in the middle, syncope, elision; as ஓதி for ஓந்தி, camelion. (See விகாரம்.) 2. An island, blank space in a river, &c., ஆற்றிடைக்குறை. இடைக்கொள்ளை, s. A small drum tapering in the middle, உடுக்கை. இடைசூரி, s. [prov.] Gold or silverbeads interspersed here and there between sacred or other beads, உருத்திராக்க முதலியவற்றிற்கிடையிற்கோத்திடுவது. இடைச்சனி--இடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. Ripening as fruits here and there. இடைப்பிறவரல், v. noun. Words intervening between any one word and another with which it makes sense--as between the noun and its attribute, &c., எழுவாய்முதலிய தொடரினுள் இடையிலேற்ற பிற சொல்வரல். இடைப்புழுதி, s. Land in a state for sowing, neither very moist nor very dry, காய்ந்துங்காயாதிருக்கிறபுழுதி. இடைப்புள்ளி, s. Marks scattered here and there--as in tobacco leaves, &c., fruits, &c. இடைப்பூட்டு, s. The shepherds have their wit in their nape; i. e. they have none. இடையன்கால்வெள்ளி, s. [prov.] The star Aldabaran in the constellation Aries, ஓர்விண்மீன். இடையாந்தரம், s. Acquired wealth and prosperity, obtained during life, not derived from ancestors. இடையிட்டெதுகை, s. The எது கை or rhyming of the third letter in every other line. இடையிடை. From time to time, at intervals, intervening space. இடையிலேகொண்டுபோக, inf. To take by theft or force, to plunder fruits, furniture, &c. 2. ōmam (p. 84) s. A burnt offering, the casting of clarified butter, the nine kinds of grain, &c., into the sacred fire, accompanied with prayers, &c. It forms an essential part of the marriage ceremony and is performed at the அந்தியேட்டி, a chief ceremony for deceased persons and in the worship of the temple, &c. In poetry the burnt sacrifice of animals, யாகம். Wils. p. 98. HOMA. ஓமகுண்டம், s. A hole made in the ground for sacrificial fire. Wils. p. 78. HOMAKUNDA. ஓமசாந்தி, s. Mitigating, propitiating by fire, அக்கினிசாந்தி. 2. Burnt offering at a marriage to propitiate the god of fire who is thus invoked as a witness of the transaction, விவாகத்திற்செய்யுமோம சாந்தி. 3. Any additional sacrifice performed to obtain pardon for having omitted certain ceremonies in a sacrifice, யாகசாந்தி. ஓமஞ்செய்ய, inf. To perform a burnt sacrifice, அக்கினிகாரியஞ்செய்ய. ஓமதிரவியம், s. The requisites for a sacrifice including the firewood, &c., யாகஉபகரணம். ஓமப்பொடி, s. The ashes of the ஓமம்--deemed sacred, and used for smearing the person, யாகநீறு. ஓமமண்டபம், s. A sacrificial hall, யாகசாலை. ஓமம்வளர்க்க, inf. To kindle and feed the sacrificial fire which should never be suffered to go out; to attend to this is the special duty of the student or பிரமசாரி. ஓமவிறகு, s. koṭu (p. 146) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To give, grant, afford, bestow, present, ஈய. 2. In combination, to issue--as commands; கட்டளையளிக்க; to communicate, impart--as knowledge, அறிவிக்க; to supply, give aid, உத விசெய்ய; to stay with the hand, or give support, முட்டுக்கொடுக்க; to create, give existence--as the Supreme Being, சிருட் டிக்க; to give place, to yield, இடங்கொடுக்க. Note.-- This word is generally used in its direct meanings of give, &c., only when there is a receiver, so as to correspond with வாங்க. It is therefore, except as to the elephant, incorrectly, though commonly, used in reference to the lower animals, Strictly also it implies the giving of a superior, to an inferior; but these distinctions are little noticed. When combined with the gerund of another verb or with a noun, the meaning is often modified--as சொல்லிக்கொடுக்க, to instruct, to teach; காட்டிக்கொடுக்க, to betray; முதுகு கொடுக்க, புறங்கொடுக்க, பின்கொடுக்க, to turn the back, to flee. கொடுப்பதொழியேல். Cease not to give [the poor.] கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல், v. noun. Dealing, bargaining. 2. Lending, borrowing, &c. அவனுக்குமெனக்குங்கொடுக்கல்வாங்கலுண்டு.... He and I have business transactions together. கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல்பண்ண, inf. To deal, bargain, barter; to lend and barrow. கொடுக்குமதி, s. [prov.] What is due to one, a debt. கொடாமை, v. noun. To give a girl in marriage. முடித்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To finish and give to another. 2. To marry; to give in marriage. வாங்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To take and give, that is, buy for another. கொடுப்பன--கொடுப்பனை, v. noun. Giving in marriage, கொள்வனை is receiving or marrying. எங்களுக்குமவர்களுக்குங் கொள்வினைகொடுப்பினை யில்லை.
