A basket made of twigs closely twisted together, used to draw water. அலகுநிலை, s. The result of a reckoning, as the sum in addition, product in multiplication, &c. அலகுநிறுத்தல், v. noun. Placing a sword upright. This is a ceremony performed in the pagoda of துரோபதை, before the festival in honor to her is commenced. A sword is set up--the point downwards-- on the side of a vessel filled with water, and if it does not move, they think that the ceremony will be attended with success. This is also done in private houses. அலகுபருப்பு, s. A kind of pea. அலகுபனை, s. The long, flat leaved palmyra, Borassus flabelliformis, L. அலகுபாக்கு, s. Betel-nut sliced thin and boiled in water in which its husk has been boiled, giving it a reddish hue. அலகுபோட, inf. To perform a penance, in which the tongue is pierced with an iron wire, strings are drawn through the sides of the loins, or the breast cut with a knife. (c.) அலகுப்பூட்டு, v. noun. camāti (p. 163) s. The last of the eight அ ங்கயோகம், or states and modes of silent, contemplative worship, அங்கயோகத்தொன்று. 2. One of the postures of the ascetic for silent meditation, being an upright, majestic position, as a fancied image of the deity, ஞானசமாதி. 3. The abstract contemplation of the ascetic in which the soul is supposed to be independent of the body and mind. (See யோகம்.) 4. Knowledge of the sublimest description--as of the deity, one's own spiritual nature, &c., acquired by supernatural illumination, without the aid of organs physical or mental, சமாதி தரிசனை. 5. A mode of interment, by placing the corpse in a sitting posture in imitation of the சமாதி worshipper, சமாதி யில்வைக்க,--Note. The வீரசைவர் sect are all burried in this manner, (it being deemed improper to burn them lest the linga previously worn should be burnt also,) and occasionally a monument of masonry is built around the corpse, as a linga, which thus becomes an object of worship. 6. Tinkling ornaments for the feet, காற்றண்டை. 17. A club, a bludgeon, த ண்டாயுதம். (சது.) 18. A pole for the shoulder in carrying burdens, காவுதடி. (நிக.) 19. Gold, பொன். 2. Noise, sound, ஒலி. 21. Wielding the shield as a fencer, சிலம்பம். The metrical feet are thirty, divided into five classes, viz.: 1. உரிச்சீர், or ஆசிரியவுரிச்சீர், feet peculiar to the அகவல் verse--as (a.) தேமா, foot of two simple syllables, a spondee. (b.) புளிமா, one compound and one simple syllable; an iambus. (c.) கருவி ளம். Two compound syllables, a pyrrhic. (d.) கூவிளம். One simple and one compound syllable, a trochee. The names serve also as models for the kinds of feet respectively. They are names of trees and their fruits. 2. வெண்சீர், or வெண்பாஉரி ச்சீர். Feet peculiar to வெண்பா verse; as (a.) தே-மாங்-காய். A foot of three simple syllables. (b.) புளி-மாங்-காய். One compound and two simples. (c.) கரு-விளங்--காய். Two compounds and one simple; an anap&ae;st. (d.) கூ-விளங்-காய். A simple, a compound and a simple. 3. வஞ்சியுரிச்சீர், or வஞ்சிச்சீர். Feet peculiar to வஞ்சி verse; as (a.) தே-மா ங்-கனி. A foot of two simple syllables and one compound. (b.) புளி-மாங்-கனி. One compound, one simple, and one compound; an amphibrach. (c.) கரு-விளங்கனி. Three compounds, a tribrach. (d.) கூவிளங்-கனி. One simple and two compound syllables. 4. பொதுச்சீர். Feet of four syllables peculiar to வஞ்சி verse; there are sixteen of them; the models for these are formed by adding respectively, தண்-ணி ழல், தண்-பூ, நறும்-பூ, நறு-நிழல் to the terms employed in the உரிச்சீர். 5. ஓரசைச்சீர். A foot of a single syllable; as (a.) நாள். A foot of one simple syllable. (b.) மலர். A foot of a compound syllable.--Note. 1. One use of the last two is to end the வெண்பா verse. --Note. 2. Sometimes feet answering to காசு, instead of நாள், and பிறப்பு instead of மலர், are employed to end the வெண்பா verse, i. e., the addition of குற்றுகரம் or short உ to the foregoing; and rarely the full உ, or முற்றுகரம் is found. சீராயிருக்கிறேன். I am in a good state. சீரழிக்க, inf. To disturb, subvert, pervert. 2. To ruin, demolish. 3. To disparage one's character. (c.) சீராக, inf. (adverbially.) Orderly, decently, properly, soberly, consistently, circumspectly, moderately, temperately, discreetly. சீராகநடக்க, inf. To act consistently, &c. சீராடிக்கொண்டுபோதல், v. noun. [prov.] The going of a married girl to her father's house for redress of grievances from her husband's family, especially from her mother-in-law. (c.) சீரானநடை, s. A moderate pace. 2. Good moral character without excess. சீரிழுக்க, inf. To pervert good circumstances. (R.) சீரிட--சீர்செய்ய--சீர்கொடுக்க, inf. To give house-hold utensils, &c., to a daughter when married. 2. To put in order, சீர்செய்ய. சீருக்குவர--சீரிலேவர, inf. To be altered for the better, to come to a right or natural state. சீரைத்தேட, inf. To desire wealth. (Avv.). சீரைவிசாரிக்க, inf. To inquire after one's health. (R.) சீர்குலைய, inf. To be disordered, deranged. 2. To be lost--as character, ruined--as circumstances; to be disgraced. 3. (fig.) To be defloured, கற்பழிய. சீர்குலைச்சல், v. noun. Disorder, immodesty. (R.) சீர்கெட, inf. To degenerate, deteriorate, to become tarnished, corrupt, spoiled. சீர்கெட்டவன்--சீர்கேடன், s. A worthless person, a wretch. 2. A sloven. சீர்கெட்டவாழ்வு, s. Unhappy, domestic life. சீர்கேடு, s. Disorder, derangement, irregularity. 2. clumsiness, awkwardness. 3. Ugliness, deformity. சீர்கேடி, s. The goddess of misfortune or poverty, மூதேவி. (நிக.) (p.) சீர்சிறப்பு, s. Splendid prosperity. சீர்செய்ய, inf. To put in order, regulate, improve. 2. To adorn. 3. As சீரிட, which see. சீர்திருத்த, inf. To correct, rectify, amend, ameliorate, to perform. சீர்திருந்த--சீர்பொருந்த, inf. To be corrected, rectified, reformed, &c. சீர்தூக்க, inf. To weigh or examine with a balance. 2. To weigh in the mind, to consider, deliberate. 3. To compare--commonly with பார்த்தல், for the second and third persons. சீர்தூக்கிப்பார். Ponder this well. சீர்நிருவாகம், s. Condition, state, circumstances; [ex நிருவாகம், strength.] சீர்பண்ண, inf. To make ready, to put in order, correct, improve. சீர்பதி, s. The Supreme Being, கடவுள். See சீபதி. சீர்பாதம், s. The divine feet, the illustrious feet--spoken reverently for the person. See சீபாதம். சீர்பெற, inf. To attain prosperity. சீர்போட, inf. [prov.] To tie the balance string to a paper kite. (c.) சீர்ப்பட--சீர்பட, inf. To be restored, to amend, recover, come to a good state --as செம்மைப்பட. சீர்ப்படுத்த, inf. To reform, improve, bring to a good state--as செம்மைப்படுத்த. சீர்ப்படுத்திவைக்க, inf. To arrange things in order. சீர்ப்பாடு, s. Celebrity, distinction, eminence, splender, beauty. (p.) சீர்ப்பிழை, s. An impediment, an obstacle, an untoward circumstance. 2. Fault, defect, குற்றம். சீர்மடக்கு, v. noun. Repetition of a foot in a line. (p.) சீர்மரம், s. A weaver's beam, படமரம். சீர்வரிசை, s. Presents made to a married girl, or one arrived at puberty (c.) ஒருகண்டசீராய், adv. Equally, uniformly, uninterruptedly. ஒருசீரானவன், appel. n. One who maintains consistency of character, moderation of temper, &c. பலசீரும்நடக்கும். You will be hospitably entertained. Or the matter will take verious shapes. துர்ச்சீர், s. A bad state or condition. நற்சீர், s. A good state or condition. 7)

There are உட்சுவர், புறச்சுவர், கற்சுவர், கைபி டிசுவர், குட்டிச்சுவர், மண்சுவர், சோற்றாலெடுத்தசு வர், &c., which see severally.--The word sometimes changes to சுவத்து and செவத்து in its compounds. சுவரிருந்தாலல்லோசித்திரமெழுதலாம். If the wall remain you may draw pictures on it; i. e. if your body be in health, you may accomplish much. சுவர்க்கால், s. The bottom of a wall, சுவரருகு. சுவரெறிபந்து, s. [prop.] A ball tossed against a wall--spoken of things that admit of no settlement. சுவரகழ்கருவி, s. [com. கன்னக்கோல்.] A robber's instrument for breaking through walls. (p.) சுவரறை, s. An opening for a shelf in a wall. சுவரெழுப்ப, inf. To raise a wall. சுவரெடுக்க, inf. To put up a wall. சுவரொட்டி, s. A kind of plant growing on walls, சுவர்முள்ளங்கி, Prenanthes sonchifolia, L. (M. Dic.) 2. [prov.] the liver of a sheep, stuck to a wall as a charm. (c.) 3. A buttress, அணைசுவர். சுவர்தீற்ற, inf. To polish a wall. சுவர்பூச, inf. To plaster a wall. சுவர்போட, inf. To put up a wall, as சுவரெடுக்க. சுவர்த்தலம், s. A wall--as சுவர். சுவர்த்தாங்கி-சுவர்தாங்கி, s. A buttress, அணைசுவர். சுவர்நாகம், s. A kind of venomous serpent, ஓர்பாம்பு. சுவர்ப்பலகை, s. The upright boards of a box, wardrobe, &c. சுவர்மட்டம், s. The level of the wall. சுவர்மாடம், s. A square cavity in the inside wall of a house. சுவர்முள்ளங்கி, s.
