irṇṭu (p. 49) s. and adj. Two, இரண்டா மெண்.-- As an adjective prefix, it often becomes இரு and ஈர், double, இரட்டிப்பான-as இருநிறம், two colors, a double color; ஈர லகு, two syllables. See அலகு. இரண்டிலொன்றுசொல்லு. Say either this or that. நாடிரண்டுபட்டது. The country is divided into two factions. இரட்ட, inf. To double, repeat a motion, sound, action, &c., to reiterate. See இரட்டிக்க. இரட்டாங்காலி, s. [prov. prop. இரட்டைமரம்.] A double tree--especially of the palmyra species. இரட்டி, s. Double quantity, twice as much, இருபங்கு. அதற்கிரட்டிதருவேன். I will give double the quantity. பத்திரட்டி, s. Twice ten. இரட்டிக்க, inf. To double, repeat, reiterate, இரட்ட. 2. (c.) To return --as a disease, வியாதிமக்களிக்க. 3. To plough the second time, always crosswise, இரண்டாமுறையுழ. 4. To differ from, be discrepant, &c., வேறுபட. 5. To disagree--as different kinds of food eaten at once, to be indigested, போசனம் ஒவ்வா திருக்க. இந்தச்சாட்சியந்தச்சாட்சிக்கிரட்டிக்கிறது. This evidence differs from the other. மகரமிரட்டித்தது. The consonant ம், is doubled. நோயிரட்டிக்கின்றது. The pain is double what it was. 2. The disease has returned. இரட்டித்தசெலவு, s. Double expense. இரட்டித்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To repeat, say a thing a second time. 2. To make a discrepant statement, or a statement different from that of another. உழவிரட்டிக்க, inf. To plough the second time. இரட்டிப்பு, s. Two-fold, twice as much, a double quantity. 2. v. noun. Doubling, making two-fold. இரட்டு, s. Two-fold, இருமடங் கு. (p.) 2. (c.) Double-threaded cloth, either coarse or fine, sack-cloth, ஓர்வ கைச்சீலை. இரட்டுப்பை, s. A sack made of coarse cloth. இரட்டுறமொழிய, inf. To state a rule so that it may comprise another, the one plainly apparent, the other to be made out by study; or the use of terms of double meaning either of which serves to make good sense, though the ideas will be wholly different; or the use of terms by which one thing is employed and another implied. See உத்தி. (p.) இரட்டை, s. Two things naturally conjoined--as a double fruit, leaf, &c.; twins, two things alike, இரண்டொன் றானது. 2. (p.) Gemini in the zodiac, two females, மிதுனராசி. 3. Even, even numbers--opposed to ஒற்றை, இரட்டையெண்-as 6, 8, 24, &c. 4. A couple, tow, சேரடு. 5. A female songster, பாடுவிச்சி. ஒற்றையிரட்டைபிடித்தல். A kind of play, playing at odd and even. இரட்டைக்கிளவி, s. Double words imitating certain sounds, ஒலிக்கு றிப்பில்வருமிரட்டைமொழி--as சளசளவெனமழை த்தாரைகான்றன. (The clouds) poured a shower of rain, with a murmuring sound. (இராமா.) (p.) இரட்டைச்சுழி, s. The symbol ை of the vowel ஐ. 2. Two curls in horses, cattle, &c.--as இருசுழி. இரட்டைத்தொடை, s. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which the same word is repeated through the line, (see தொடை)--as ஒக் குமே யொக்குமே யொக்குமே யொக்கும் விளக்கினு ட்சீறெரியொக்குமே யொக்கும் குளக்கொட்டிப்பூவி னிறம், the color of the flower of the water-plant கொட்டி, resembles the delicate flame of the lamp. (p.) இரட்டைப்படவெண்ண, inf. To count even, making a series increasing by a common ratio--as 2, 4, 6, &c. இரட்டைப்பாக்கு, s. An arecanut with two eyes producing, if planted, two trees. இரட்டைப்பிள்ளை, s. Twins. 2. [prov.] A double young areca or cocoa-nut tree. இரட்டைப்புரிக்கயிறு, s. A rope or string made of two strands. இரட்டைமணிமாலை, s. A poem consisting of twenty verses of வெண்பா and கலித்துறை, or நேரிசைவெண்பா and ஆசி ரியவிருத்தம், and composed according to the rules of அந்தாதி. See பிரபந்தம். (p.) இரண்டகம், s. Treachery, perfidy, duplicity, dissimulation, double-dealing, துரோகம். (c.) இரண்டகம்நினைக்க, inf. To frame a treacherous design. இரண்டகம்பண்ண, inf. To betray, act treacherously, perfidiously. இரண்டகவாதி, s. A treacherous person, an insincere friend, துரோகி. இரண்டன்மை, s. Sameness, (lit.) being not two--as அத்துவைதம், which see. இரண்டாந்தரம், s. Secondary kind or class--as of cloth, tobacco, &c. 2. The second time. இரண்டாம்பட்சம், s. Second or secondary class, kind, &c., not the most approved. இரண்டாம்பாட்டன், s. A great grand-father, மூதாதை. இரண்டாவது, s. That which is the second. 2. adv. Secondly. இரண்டுக்குப்போக, inf. [vul.] To go to stool, (usage of children.) இரண்டுக்குற்றது, s. Critical juncture, a crisis in a disease, சாத்தியமோவசர த்தியமோவென்பது. 2. Dubiousness, possibility of two contrary impending issues, a double probability, இதுவோவதுவோவெ ன்கை. இரண்டுங்கெட்ட நேரம், s. [vul.] The dusk of the evening, used for an inauspicious or untimely season, &c. இரண்டுங்கெட்டவன், s. An indifferent man, neither good nor bad. இரண்டுசொல்ல, inf. To evade, refuse, give an indirect or evasive answer. இரண்டுசெய்ய, inf. To act perfidiously. 2. To act against one's command, to behave disobediently. இரண்டுநினைக்க, inf. To be hypocritical, to meditate treachery under a show of honesty. இரண்டுபட, inf. To vary from, differ in the issue or event, disagree, dissent, become opposed, வேறுபட. 2. To be discrepant, appear discordant, &c., ஒற்றுமையின்றாக. 3. To be doubtful, ஐயுற. இரண்டுபடுத்த, inf. To disjoin, disunite, cause to differ, sow dissension. இரண்டுபண்ண, inf. To act treacherously. இரு. Two, as இரண்டு and ஈர். இருகந்தம், s. Good and bad smell, இருமணம். (p.) இருகால், s. [vul. இருக்கால்.] Twice, இரண்டுவிசை. 2. Two feet, இருதாள். இருகாழி, [prov. இருக்காழி.] A palmyra or இருப்பை fruit with two kernels, இரண்டுகொட்டையுடையகாய்; [ex காழ், seed.] இருகுறணேரிசைவெண்பா, s. A நேரிசைவெண்பா, consisting of two குறள் வெண்பா, and a foot affixed to the second line for the sake of harmony, ஓர் வகைவெண்பா. (p.) இருக்கால், s. A certain cast of the dice in playing a game, கவற்றிற்குறித் தவோரெண். (c.) இருசமயவிளக்கம், s. A controversial treatise on the merits of Saivaism and Vishnuism, ஓர்நூல். இருசமயவிளக்கச்சூறாவளி, s. A treatise written in confutation of the above. இருசீரகம், s. The two different kinds of சீரகம்--as நற்சீரகம் and கருஞ்சீரகம், which see. இருசுடர், s. The two lights--the sun and moon, சூரியசந்திரர். (p.) இருசுடர்த்தோற்றம், s. One of the divisions of பெருங்காப்பியம், சூரியசந்திரோத யங்களின்வருணனை. (p.) இருசுழி, s. A double curl as a mark. இருசுழியிருந்துண்டாலுமுண்ணும் இரந்துண்டா லுமுண்ணும். A person of a double curl may live in luxury or be reduced to beggary. இருதலைக்கொள்ளி, s. A brand burning at both ends. ஒருதலைக்கொள்ளிநடுவிலெறும்பைப்போலானே ன். I am like an ant between two fires; i. e. I am in straits. இருதலைப்பட்சி, s. A kind of bird fabled to have two heads. இருதலைமணியன், s. A snake said to have two heads--one at each end. இருதாரைக்கத்தி, s. Two-edged sword or knife. இருதிணை, s. The two classes உயர்திணை and அஃறிணை into which Tamil nouns are divided. (See திணை.) 2. The two classes into which creatures are divided, இயங்குதிணை and இயங்கரத்திணை, which see. (p.) இருநிதிக்கிழவன், s. Kuvêra, கு பேரன். (p.) இருநினைவு, s. Double-mindedness, oscillating or wavering disposition. இருபது, s. Twenty, (lit.) twice ten, ஓரெண். இருபாவிருபது, s. A poem consisting of ten வெண்பா and ten அகவல் stanzas, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். See பிரபந்தம். (p.) இருபிறப்பு, s. [literally.] Two births, இருசனனம்--said of persons or things twice born--as 1. The moon, சந்திரன். 2. Birds and other oviparous creatures, முட்டையிற்பிறப்பன. (See அண்ட சம்.) 3. The teeth, பல். 4. Feathers, சிறகு. 5. Brahmans, பார்ப்பார். (p.) இருபிறப்பாளர், s. The twiceborn caste--Brahmans; investiture with the sacred thread being deemed a kind or regeneration, அந்தணர். இருபெயரொட்டுப்பண்புத்தொகை, s. Omission of ஆகிய or ஆய where two nouns are used in opposition, ஓர்பண்புத் தொகை--as ஆதிபகவன். God the source (of all things.) இருபொருள், s. Learning and riches. See பொருள். (p.) இருமடங்கு, s. As much again, two-fold, இரண்டுபங்கு. இருமடியாகுபெயர், s. An ஆகு பெயர் of the second degree--as கார், black when used to signify a cloud is called ஆகுபெயர்; but when used for the rainy season, it is called இருமடியாகுபெயர். (p.) இருமணம், s. Pleasant and unpleasant odors, நற்கந்ததுர்க்கந்தங்கள். (p.) இருமரபு, s. The two ancestral lines--paternal and maternal, தாய்மரபு தந் தைமரபு. (p.) இருமனம், s. Hesitancy, dubiousness, doubt, irresolution, indecision. 2. Double-dealing, treachery. இருமை, s. Duality, a two-fold state, two, இருதன்மை. 2. The two states --the present and the future, or this life and that to come--whether as distinct from the body or as reunited with it in another birth, இம்மைமறுமை. (p.) இருவகைத்தோற்றம், s. The two classes of beings produced--சரம் and அச ரம். See தோற்றம். (p.) இருவாட்டித்தரை, s. [prov.] Land compounded of earth and clay, மணலுங் களிப்புமானநிலம். இருவாய்க்குருவி, s. A kind of bird, Hormbill, buceros, ஓர்குருவி. இருவினை, s. The two classes of moral actions--good and evil, in every one of which there is merit or demerit, leading to future births in which they are to be suffered or enjoyed, while they keep the soul from union with deity, நல்வினை தீவினை. (p.) ஈர். An adjective of இரண்டு, two --used before words beginning with vowels, &c., as இரு is used before consonants--as ஈராயிரம், two-thousand; இருபது, twenty. ஈரசைச்சீர், s. A poetic foot of two அசை, ஆசிரியச்சீர். (p.) ஈரடி, s. Two lines, இணையடி. (p.) 2. That which is bifurcate or two forked, கவர். 3. Doubtfulness, fluctuation, சந்தேகம். ஈரடிப்பயன், s. Ambiguity in conversation, equivocation, double-mindedness, உபயார்த்தம். 2. Double-dealing, acting under-handedly so as to suit both parties, கபடம். 3. Uncertainty, doubtfulness, சந்தேகம். 4. [prov.] Diverseness, disagreement--as of a report or account differently related, விகற்பம்; [ex அடி, step, course, et பயன், meaning.] ஈரடிப்பா, s. A stanza of two lines. (p.) ஈரடிமடக்கு, s. [in poetry.] Repetition of a foot or feet in two lines with different meanings, வந்தசொல்லேயிரண்டடி யினும்வரப்பாடுவது. See மடக்கு. ஈரடிவெண்பா, s. A kind of வெ ண்பா of two lines--the குறள்வெண்பா. (p.) ஈரடுக்கொலி, s. Reiterated words imitative of sound--as நெறுநெறென்றுமுறிந் தது, it broke with a reiterated crash; வண்டில்கடகடென்றோடிற்று, the carriage rolled along with a rattling noise. (p.) ஈரறம், s. The two kinds of அறம், or virtuous actions according to the shasters; viz.: இல்லறம், matrimony and its accompanying household virtues; and துறவறம், the virtues of ascetic practice. (p.) ஈரறிவுயிர், s. Beings that have the sense of feeling and tasting--as snails, shells, &c., பரிசமுஞ்சுவையுமறியும்நந்துமுதலிய செந்து. (p.) ஈராசிடைவெண்பா, s. A species of வெண்பா, with two ஆசு affixed to the end of the third foot of the second line. (p.) ஈராடி--ஈராட்டி, s. [prov.] A changeable state of the wind and weather, previous to the change of monsoon, indicative of rain. 2. A calm, a lull, the failing of the wind at this season, காற்றினமைவு. 3. Fickleness, hesitation, fluctuation of mind, நிலையின்மை. இக்காரியத்திலென்மனமீராடிப்படுகின்றது. In this affair my mind wavers. ஈராட்டி, s. [prov.] Two wives. ஈரி, s. A play of girls, two stones being taken up from the ground while a third is tossed in the air, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. (c.) ஈரிலைப்பயிர், s. A young shoot when two leaves appear. ஈரிழை, s. Double-thread used in some kinds of cloth--as in muslin. ஈரிழைச்சல்லா, s. A muslin whose warp consists of two untwisted threads. ஈரீற்றா, s. A cow that has had two calves. (p.) ஈருடல், s. [in mythology.] Beings possessing the form, in part, of two bodies--as Vishnu manifested in the form of man and lion, இருதன்மைத்தாயவுடல். (p.) ஈருயிர்க்காரி, s. The two-lived --used of a pregnant female. (c.) ஈரெச்சம், s. See எச்சம். ஈரொட்டு, s. Uncertainty, doubt, crisis, criticalness, state of suspense, conditional bargain. (c.) நோயாளியின்காரியமீரொட்டாயிருக்கின்றது. The case of the patient is doubtful. ஈரொட்டாகச்சொல்ல, inf. To speak doubtfully, uncertainly, ambiguously. ஈரொட்டாகவாங்க, inf. To take things conditionally, that is, if approved; or, as a merchant, to pay for them if sold. 6)

uḷru (p. 67) --உளர், கிறேன், உளர்ந்தேன், வேன், உளர, v. a. To adjust or clean feathers with the beak--as birds, சிறகுகோத. 2. To shake the wings and feathers, சிறகுதற. 3. To shake off, scatter, sprinkle, strew, சிந்த. (நிகண்டு.) 4. To try, tune, or play on a lute, &c., with the fingers, யாழினரம்புதடவ. (p.) 5. v. n. To whirl about, whiffle--as wind, காற் றுளர. 6. [prov.] To turn about or be loose --as a pin, or screw, சுழல. 7. [vul.] To stir, move either bodily or mentally, அசைய. நரம்புளர்ந்தமுதமூறுமங்கையர்பாடல். The singing of the damsels who sweetly played on the lute-- (நைட.) இவ்வளவுசொல்லியுஞ்சற்றுமுளருகிறானில்லை.... Though I have said so much, he is not yet moved. சிறையுளர்ந்தயல்சூழ். (Birds) that flock in the neighborhood adjusting their feathers with the beak-உளர்ச்சி, v. noun. Whirling, சுழற்சி. உளர்வு, v. noun. uẕlu (p. 67) --உழல், கிறேன், உழன்றேன், வேன், உழல, v. n. To whirl, revolve, சுழல. 2. To play, be in motion, to swing as a door on its hinges, &c., ஆட. 3. To wander, roam, to be unsettled, be agitated, சுற்றித்திரிய. 4. To oscillate, vibrate, அசைய. 5. To waver, be anxious, to be vexed, worried, மனஞ்சுழல. 6. To be in a state of suffering and distress--as the soul in connexion with births, to revolve through various transmigrations, பிறவியிற்சுழல. உழலாமனனும். An unwavering mind-(நைட.) உழலூசல்போல. Like an agitated swing-(மறைசை.) சமுசாரக்கவலைகொண்டுழலுகிறான். He is troubled with family cares. ஒக்கவுழன்றான். He has labored or suffered together with another. உழற்சி, v. noun. Whirling, revolving, turning, சுழற்சி. 2. Roaming, wandering, சுற்றித்திரிகை. 3. Oscillation, vibration, ஆடுகை. 4. Doubt, wavering, anxiety, agitation, fear, மனச்சுழற்சி. 5. Suffering, distress, வருத்தம். (p.) உழன்றறுக்க, inf. To labor hard, strive with might and main. 2. To become skilled or dexterous by practice. உழன்றி, s. A stick fastened under the cow's neck with a hole for the tether to play in. உழன்றுகிடக்க, inf. To be loosened, to be useless. உழன்றுவர, inf. A row of small patches of ground in a corn-field, adjoining one side of a cross channel. ஒற்றையோஇரட்டையோ. Is it even or odd? ஒற்றிக்க, inf. v. n. To be odd as numbers--as 1, 3, 5, ஒற்றைப்பட. 2. To be unwavering, be settled in mind or purpose, to be decided, ஒன்றுபட. ஒற்றித்தமனம், s. A single mind, sincerity. 2. Freedom from doubt, decision of mind. ஒற்றித்தவெண், s. Odd numbers, ஒற்றைப்பட்டவெண். ஒற்றைக்கண்ணன், s. Venus, சுக் கிரன். 2. kuvera, குபேரன். (p.) ஒற்றைக்குடை, s. An unique umbrella--an emblem of independent sovereignty. ஒற்றைக்குடையினாளுதல், v. noun. Exercising absolute sovereignty. ஒற்றைக்கொம்பன், s. Ganesa, the single-tusked--as an elephant, the other tusk having been broken off, வினாயகன். ஒற்றைச்சார், s. [prov.] A house without an area in the centre. ஒற்றைத்தாலி, s. A single wedding ornament without the accompaniments which are sometimes added on a future day. See சங்குந்தாலியும். ஒற்றைத்தாழ்ப்பூட்டு, s. A lock with a single bolt or a single lock. ஒற்றைத்துலா, s. A well-lever formed of one solid timber, ஒற்றையேற்றம். See மூட்டுத்துலா or நெம்புத்துலா. ஒற்றைநூல், s. A three-twined sacred thread--as worn by a bachelor. ஒற்றைநூற்புடவை, s. Single threaded cloth, தனியிழை. ஒற்றைப்படவெண்ணுதல், v. noun. Counting by odd numbers. 2. Counting things one by one. ஒற்றைப்பட்டு, s. One of several strings of a necklace, folds, strands. ஒற்றைப்பட்டுமணி, s. A single necklace. ஒற்றைப்பார்ப்பான், s. A single brahman, whose sight is deemed inauspicious whether as the first object in the morning, or at any time on leaving home for some special purpose. ஒற்றைப்புரிக்கயிறு, s. A rope formed of a single strand, ஒருபுரிக்கயிறு. ஒற்றையாழித்தேர், s. The chariot of the sun being single-wheeled, சூரியனு டையதேர். ஒற்றையாழித்தேரோன், s. The third and last of the ancient Madura colleges consisting of forty-nine literati, இறுதிச்சங் கம். கடைச்சரக்கு, s. Curry stuff, spices, &c., drugs, medicines, &c., sold in the bazaar, கடையில்விற்கப்படுஞ்சரக்கு. கடைச்சன், s. The youngest son, கடைப்பிள்ளை. கடைஞர், s. The laboring caste in agricultural districts, மருதநிலமாக்கள். கடைதலைப்பூட்டு, s. An inverted construction in poetry, by which the last word in a verse is connected with the first, விற்பூட்டுப்பொருள்கோள். கடைதிறப்பு, v. noun. Opening a door. In erotics, the section which relates to an application made for the opening of a door to a coming or expected lover; or in war poems, to a warrior returning in triumph after a victory, கதவுதிறக்கை. (p.) கடைத்தடம், s. Gate-way, வாயில். (p.) கடைத்தரம், s. The last class, the lowest or worst kind, கீழ்த்தரம். கடைத்தலை--கடைத்தலைவாயில்-கடைத்தலைவாய்தல், s. The outer gate, the outer court or yard, தலைவாயில். கடைத்தெரு, s. A market-street, a bazaar, கடைவீதி. கடைத்தேற, inf. [prop. கடத்தேற.] To be saved, to escape all afflictions. கடைத்தேற்றம், s. [prop. கடத்தேற் றம்.] Salvation. கடைநாள்--கடைமீன், s. The twenty-seventh lunar asterism, இரேவதி. (p.) கடைநிலை, s. A poem uttered by holy persons coming from a distance to the hero of the poem at the door of whose residence they stand and desire the door-keeper to inform his master of their arrival, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். (See பிரபந்தம்.) 2. An outside door, புறவாயில். (நீதிநெறி.) 3. The last letter of a word or verse, ஈற்றெழுத்து. (p.) கடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. A word at the end of a sentence understood in other parts--one of the தீவகம். கடைநிலையளபெடை, s. The rhyme in which the last letter of each verse is lengthened. கடைநிலையெழுத்து, s. [in grammar.] Letters proper to end a word, இறுதிநிலை. கடைபோக, inf. To end, terminate, conclude, முடிய. 2. To be fulfilled, நிறைவேற. கடைபோட--கடைவைக்க, inf. To set up a shop, open a shop. கடைப்பட, inf. To be inferior, below mediocrity, to be last in quality or estimation, degree or order, இழிவாக. 2. To be practicable, capable of completion, நிறைவேற. என்னாலிதுகடைப்படாது. This will not be completed by me. கடைப்பாடு, s. Determination, தீர் மானிப்பு. 2. Inferiority, baseness, இழிவு. கடைப்பந்தி, s. The lower end of a dining table or of a row of guests, கடைசிப்பந்தி. கடைப்பிடி, s. Bearing in mind, remembering, ஞாபகம். 2. Indelible impressions of gratitude for benefits received, of duties to be performed, of the importance of virtue and religion, மறவா மை. 3. Certainty, ascertainment, established truth, தேற்றம். 4. Firm belief in the essentials of religion serving as the hope and support of the mind in reference to a future state, the last grasp of the soul, உறுதி. 5. Firm determination, firm resolve, either for good or evil, கரும முடிக்குந்துணிவு. 6. Doctrines, truth firmly believed as necessary to salvation, உறுதி யானகொள்கை. கடைப்பிடிக்க, inf. To ascertain clearly, to know certainly, தெளிய. 2. To determine, resolve firmly, be decided in purpose either in a good or evil course, துணிய. 3. To remember, to bear in mind benefits, to be grateful, &c., to be deeply sensible of one's obligations for favor received, மறவாமலிருக்க. 4. To have an abiding sense of the importance of virtue and religion, சன்மார்க்கத்திலுறுதியாயி ருக்க. 5. To have an unwavering faith in the essentials of religion, to embrace or take firm hold of religious instructions, &c., தேவபத்தியிலுறுதியாயிருக்க. 6. To grasp, resort to--as the soul for its last refuge, பற்ற. 7. To provide, be provident, be economical, வீண்செலவுசெய்யாது வைக்க. (p.) கதவிலரேதற்சார்ந்தார்வண்ணங்கடைப்பிடியாதார். Unkind are they who are forgetful of the situation of their friends. (காரிகையுரை.) மற்றதன்கள்ளங்கடைப்பிடித்தனன்று. It is important to have an abiding sense of the wiles of Yama. வாழ்க்கைக்குவேண்டும்பொருளறிந்துகடைப்பிடி த்தலும். Knowing and duly providing all things necessary for her household-(குறளுரை.) நன்மைகடைப்பிடி. Persevere in good works. (ஔவை). கடைப்பிறப்பு, s. The meanest species of birth in any class of beings, இழிந்தபிறப்பு. கடைப்புணர்முரண்--கடைமுரண், s. A species of rhyme when the last foot of every line is of opposite meaning, ஓர்தொடை. கடைப்புணர்வு--கடைப்பூட்டு, s. [in jewelry.] Clasp, hasp, அணியின்கடைப் புணர்வு. கடைப்புத்தி, s. [prov.] Stupidity, இழிந்தபுத்தி. 2. A piece of folly, பின்புத்தி. கடைப்போக்கு, s. The flood-gate of tank. கடைமடக்கு, s. [in rhetoric.] Continued recurrence of the same words at the end of each line through a stanza, but with different meanings, சொல்லணி யிலொன்று. See மடக்கு. கடைமுறை, s. The last time, eventually, கடைசிமுறை. (நீதிநெறி. 48.) கடைமோனை--கடையாகுமோனை, s. (See மோனை.) A rhyme when the first letter of the last foot of every line is the same, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையயல், s. [in grammar.] The penultimate, ஈற்றயல். (p.) கடையர், s. (fem. கடைசியர்--க டைச்சியர்.) Laboring classes in agricultural districts, மருதநிலமாக்கள். (p.) கடையழிய, inf. To be afflicted with a painful and lingering disease, to suffer extremely, வருந்த. 2. To be distressed with poverty, வறுமையுற. 3. To degenerate, கேடுற. கடையனல், s. The fire by which the world will finally be consumed. கடையன், s. A man of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோன். கடையாகெதுகை, s. A rhyme, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையாட்டம், s. [prov.] Lingering in disease, excessive suffering from disease, வருத்தம். 2. Vexation, teasing, imminence, trouble, annoyance, உலைவு, lit. mean work. கடையாட்டப்பட, inf. To drudge, to be employed in mean work. 2. To linger in disease, suffer exceedingly, வ ருந்த. 3. To be vexed. harassed. &c.-as a nurse by troublesome children, உ லைய. கடையாணி, s. A linch-pin, அச் சாணி. 2. A peg or pin used to keep a tenon in a mortise, or for any similar purpose, பூட்டாணி. கடையாந்தரம்--கடையீறு, s. [vul.] The very last, the extremity, &c.--as கடைசி. கடையாயார், s. Persons of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோர். கடையால், s. Stern of a vessel, தோணியின்பிற்புறம். See கடைசால், usage. கடையிணைமுரண், s. A rhyme when the last two feet of a line are of opposite meanings, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையிணைமோனை, s. A consonance of the first letters in the last two feet of each line in a verse. (p.) கடையீடு, s. Land of the poorest quality, கடைத்தரமானநிலம். கடையுணி, s. [prov.] A mean fellow who eats what he can beg or pick up-- a worthless being, இழிந்தோன். கடையுண்ண, inf. [prov.] To linger in disease, வருத்தப்பட. 2. To be stinted or weak in growth--as a child, நசுங்க. 3. To be neglected, abused, &c.-- as a book, a utensil, &c.; in this meaning it is a term of displeasure, இகழப்பட. கடையுவா, s. The full moon, பௌரணை. (p.) கடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The twelfth asterism in which Saturn is considered malignant in his influence, உத்திரம். See சனி. கடைவழி, s. Final salvation, the last path. கடைவழிக்குதவும். It will avail for the salvation of the soul. காதற்றஊசியும்வாராதுகாணுங்கடைவழிக்கே. Be assured that even an eyeless needle will not accompany you in that sad hour. கடைவளர, inf. To be enlarged-said of the genitals of a cow, &c., before yeaning, ஈனுங்காலத்திற்குறிவிரிய. கடைவள்ளல், s. The last of the third class of liberal men--he who bestows charity from motives of ostentation, கேட்டபின்கொடுப்போன். கடைவாய், s. The corner or extremities of the mouth, வாயின்கடை. கடைவாய்நக்கி, s. A great miser, உலுத்தன், lit. he who licks the corners of his mouth. கடைவாய்ப்பல், s. The double teeth, the grinders, the back teeth. கடைவாய்வழிய, inf. To drivel at the corners of the mouth--as old people or persons asleep, வாய்நீரொழுக. கடைவிரிக்க, inf. To spread out goods for sale in a shop or market, கடைதிறக்க. கடைவீதி, s. A market-street. கடைவைக்க, inf. To place goods for sale in a shop or bazaar. 2. To open a shop on an auspicious day after the new-year, கடைதிறக்க. பலசரக்குக்கடை, s. A shop where commodities of various kinds are sold. மளிகைக்கடை, s. A wholesale ware-house. காசுக்கடை, s. An exchange. அடிக்கடை, s. The first shop in a market-street. மருந்துக்கடை, s. An apothecary's shop. கசாய்க்கடை, s. (Tel.) A butcher's shop. சாராயக்கடை, s. An arrack shop. கீரைக்கடை, s. A green-grocer's shop. சவுளிக்கடை, s. A cloth-merchant's shop. விரற்கடை, s. tḷmpu (p. 229) கிறேன், தளம்பினேன், வேன், தளம்ப, v. n. To wabble, flap, fluctuate, as water in a moving vessel, அலம்ப. 2. To be unsteady as a water pot floating; to wabble, as a spinning top; to together, stagger with the weight of a load, to shake, as the top of a car when drawn; to move as drops of water on a leaf, தள்ளாட. 3. To vacillate, or be unsteady--as a load, அசைய. 4. To fluctuate, waver, hesitate, அலைய. 5. To be in straits for a livelihood, be agitated, முட்டுப்பட. 6. To move, to swerve, நிலைகுலைய. (c.)*********** அவனைத்தளம்பவிடார்கள். They will not let him swerve, to the other party, &c.; i. e. will not suffer him to want. நிறைகுடம்தளம்பாது. The water in a full jar does not shake. அவன் நெஞ்சு தாமரையிலைத்தண்ணீர்போல்தளம்பு கிறது. His heart wavers as the waterdrops upon a lotus leaf. தளம்பியூற்றுண்ண, inf. To spill, as water from a vessel. toḷtoḷttl (p. 262) v. noun. Being slack, lex, தளர்வு. (c.) தொளதொளப்பு. Laxness, slackness, தளர்வு. தொளதொளெனல். Being slack, &c., நெகிழ்வு. தொளதொளென்றுபோகிறது. It (a key) enters into the hole. பேச்சுத்தொளதொளக்க. To speak waveringly, undecidedly, &c. 114)

ncuncu (p. 267) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. [used com. in the 3rd person neuter.] To waver, to be undecided in speech or action, தடுமாற. 2. To be continually drizzling, தூறிக்கொண்டேயிருக்க. 3. To be damp as a floor, ஈரிக்க. (c.) 4.[prov.] To be yielding to the touch, as நசிந்துகொடுக்க. நசுநசுத்தகுணம், s. The earth, the world, பூமி. 18. Time, காலம். 19. [prov.] One of the two land measures, that applied to any but rice-lands. See நெல்லிலாச்சம். 2. Fordableness, ford, தாண்டுதுறை.-- The நிலை, (attitudes) in archery are; 1. பைசாசம், standing with one leg straight and the other bent, as devils are said to stand; 2. மண்டலம், standing with both knees bent out; 3. ஆலீடம், standing with the right knee bent out, and the left foot advanced; 4. பிரத்தியாலீடம், standing with the left knee bent and the right foot advanced. (சது.)--Note. Some authorities give a fifth posture, சமபாதம், standing with the feet even. நிலையுரியாய்ச்சீலையையுரிந்தான். He stripped or made himself naked. நிலையைவிட்டால்நீச்சு. If the fordable depth be left, one must swim--videlicet, give not up a certainty for an uncertainty. நிலைகலங்க, inf. To be disturbed, deranged, &c., in situation as a person or thing. நிலைகுலைக்க, inf. To ravish, &c. See குலை, v. a. நிலைகுலைய--நிலைகெட, inf. To lose one's situation, &c. See குலை, v. நிலைகேடு, s. Loss of a situation. நிலைகொள்ள, inf. To come into existence or operation. 2. To continue, to be permanent. நிலைக்கடகம், s. [prov.] A large, stationary basket, பெருங்கூடை. நிலைக்கண்ணாடி, s. Door-post, door-frame, வாசற்கால். நிலைக்குடி, s. Settled or naturalized inhabitants, proprietors of the soil, aborigines, பழங்குடி. நிலைக்குத்த--நிலைக்குத்திட, inf. To set up, establish one's self in better circumstances. 2. To restore to a right state in religion or morals. நிலைநிறுத்தக்கொடுக்க, inf. To fulfil a promise. நிலைநிற்க, inf. To stand firm in one's principles, to persevere, to maintain consistency. 2. To be permanent, lasting or enduring; to remain. நிலைநீங்காமை, s. Steadfastness. நிலைபரம், s. See நிலைவரம். நிலைபிடிக்க, inf. To get an office or residence, for one's self, தொழில்கைப்பற்ற. 2. To attain the right standing, &c., in religion, நிலைபெற. 3. To reach the goal, குறியடைய. நிலைபெற, inf. To be placed or situated, தங்க. 2. To gain a firm footing, உறுதிகொள்ள. 3. To persevere, to endure. நிலைபெறுத்தல்--நிலைபெறுத்துதல், v. noun. Fixing, establishing, placing, நிலைநிறுத்தல். 2. Rendering permanent, lasting, or durable, நீடிக்கச்செய்தல். 3. Preserving, protecting, காத்தல். (p.) நிலைப்பெறுத்துகை, v. noun. Elasticity, ஸ்திதஸ்தாபகம். (சது.) நிலைபேறு, s. A firm position or situation, அசையாமை. 2. Firm footing, stability, உறுதி. 3. A pillar or post, துண். 4. Final bliss, மோட்சம். (சது.) 5. Honor, reputation, character, மானம். நிலைப்பட, inf. To become permanent, lasting, durable. 2. To be fixed, steady, firm. 3. To become stationary, established. 4. To attain certainty, நிசப்பட. நிலைப்படுத்த, inf. To make permanent, lasting, durable. 2. To establish, settle, fix. 3. To make certain, நிசப்படுத்த. நிலைப்பரப்பு, s. [prov.] An extent or measure of land for grain. See நிலை. நிலைப்பாடு, s. Firmness, permanence, durability, உறுதிப்பாடு. நிலைமண், s. [prov.] Primitive, or native soil, as distinguished from கொட்டுமண், made ground. நிலைமண்டிலஆசிரியப்பா, s. One of the four species of ஆசிரியப்பா. See Beschi's Shen-Tamil Gram. p. 85. நிலைமண்டுதல், v. noun. Making a long stay in a place from home. 2. Sticking closely to a place, as a person, or animal. நிலைமாறுதல், v. noun. Changing place, principles or religion, being proselyted, இடமாறுதல். 2. [in gram.] Being changed in place--as letters, in words, as வைகாசி for வைசாகி, the latter being according to the original, சொல்லினெழுத்துமா றுதல். நிலைமொழி, s. [in gram.] The preceding or antecedent word, வருமொழிக்கு முதன்மொழி. நிலையகம், s. House, abode, வீடு. (p.) நிலையங்கி, s. A robe, a cloak. நிலையழிய, inf. To be unsettled as a kingdom, or ruined as a family, &c. 2. To depart from right principles, as நிலைதவற. 3. To be discomfited, தட்டழிய. நிலையழிவு, v. noun. Defeat, discomfiture, &c., as தட்டுக்கேடு. நிலையறிதல், v. noun. Knowing one's standing, rank, character or principles. நிலையாடி, appel. n. A weaver's swift. நெய்வார்கருவியுளொன்று. 2. Standing looking glass as நிலைக்கண்ணாடி. நிலையாகக்கேட்டல், v. noun. Hearing steadily, attentively, fixedly, உறுதிாயாய்க் கேட்டல். நிலையிடல், v. noun. Establishing, confirming, ஸ்தாபித்தல். நிலையியற்பொருள், s. A motionless inanimate thing. (p.) நிலையில்லாமை--நிலையின்மை, v. noun. (neg.) Transientness, transitoriness, அநித்தியம். 2. Fickleness, wavering, instability, உறுதியின்மை. நிலையில்லாதவன், appel. n. A changeable person, one who breaks his word. நிலையுடைக்கட்டை, s. A pivot. (R.) நிலையுடைமை, v. noun. Stability, firmness. (p.) நிலையுமல், s. [prov.] A large basket for grain, &c., kept stationary. நிலையுரல், s. A large mortar. நிலையூன்ற, inf. To take firm footing, become firmly settled in place, பலப் பட. 2. To become firmly rooted as a tree, வேரூன்ற. நிலைவரம், s. [improp. நிலைபரம். Tel. நிலவரமு.] State, condition, circumstances, நிலைமை. 2. Certainty, assurance, உண்மை. 3. Firmness, steadiness, sureness, உறுதி. நிலைவரப்பட்டவன், appel. n. A person who may be depended upon. நிலைவிளக்கு, s. Lamps placed in a square frame in a temple opposite the door; being stationary, not taken for other purposes. See சட்டவிளக்கு. ஒருநிலையாய்நிற்றல், v. noun. Continuing in a stationary posture. 2. [also ஒருகாலிலேநிற்றல்.] Persisiting, commonly in an improper request. 156)

maṉacu (p. 346) --மனது, s. Mind, heart, will, உள்ளம். W. p. 635. MANAS. 2. Purpose, intention, feeling, எண்ணம். 3. Desire, inclination of the mind, விருப்பம். மனசறிந்தவன், appel. n. One who is fully conscious. மனசறிய, inf. [adverbially.] Knowingly or wilfully, as மனசார, நெஞ்சறிய. மனசறியச்செய்தான். He has wilfully done it. மனசாயிருக்க, inf. To be willing; to purpose. மனசார--மனதார, inf. [adverbially.] Spontaneously, cordially. மனசாரநானொன்றும்அறியேன். To the best of my recollection, I know nothing of it. மனசிரங்க--மனதிரங்க, inf. To pity, to commiserate. மனசிரங்கிக்கொடுத்தான். He gave it out of pity. மனசிலேகிடக்கட்டும். Keep your own mind. மனசிலேவைத்துக்கொள். Keep this in mind. மனசில்லாமை--மனதில்லாமை, v. noun. (neg.) Unwillingness, reluctancy. மனசிளகப்பண்ண, inf. To soften the mind. 2. To move the affections. மனசினாலேகாண, inf. To meditate, to consider. மனசுஅதின்மேலோடுகிறது. The mind is bent upon it. மனசுக்குச்சரிபோனபடிசெய்கிறான். He acts according to his own mind. மனசுக்கேற்கநடக்க, inf. To walk or act according to one's mind or will. மனசுநோக--மனசுநோவ, inf. To be grieved in mind. மனசொருவிதமாயிருக்கிறது. My mind is wavering. மனசோடே. Wilfully. மனதின்தீக்குணம், s. [also மனத்தீக்கு ணம்.] The evil dispositions of the mind. See தீக்குணம். மனதின்நற்குணம், s. The good dispositions of mind: 1. அருள்நினைவு, kind thoughts; 2. ஆசையறுத்தல், mortification of corrupt desires; 3. தவப்பற்று, persevering penance. See நற்குணம். மனதைக்கருக்க, inf. To wound the feelings. See கருக்கு, v. மனதொழுக்கம்--மனத்தொழுக்கம், s. Right way of thinking. அதின்மேலெனக்குமனதில்லை. It does not suit me. மனஸ்தாபம்--மனத்தாபம், s. Grief, heart-burning. 2.
