An offering made in front of a temple, for show. அலங்காரபஞ்சகம், s. A poem of a hundred verses, (lit.) the five forms of beauty. It is a series of five kinds of verses; viz.: வெண்பா, கலித்துறை, அக வல், ஆசிரியவிருத்தம், சந்தவிருத்தம். (இவ்வகை யே மாறிமாறி நூறுசெய்யுள் அந்தாதித்துப்பாடுவது.) அலங்காரப்படுத்த, inf. To adorn, சிங்காரிக்க. அலங்காரப்பிரியன், s. Vishnu. அலங்காரப்பேச்சு, s. Fine, elegant language, flattery. 33) *

āl (p. 43) . The chief form of the third case, or instrumental ablative--implying cause, agency, instrumentality, expressing by, by means of, with, by way of, in consequence of, மூன்றாம்வேற்றுமையுருபு. 2. A poetic expletive, usually annexed to the finite verb, also to nouns, அசைச்சொல். 3. A form of the subjunctive, joined to the gerund, or in poetry, to the finite verb, expressing if, வினையெச்சவிகுதி. 4. An optative termination expressing may, let, &c., வியங்கோள் விகுதி. 5. A negative form of the optative--as அழால், don't weep. 6. A form of affirmation, for yes, ஆமெனல். This definition, though given in Saturagarady and Negundu, is not proved by examples. 7. A form of the third case, expressing each, every, distributively. (p.) நீவந்தால். If you come. நாடாமால். It is a country, or one's native land. ஊராலொருதேவகுலம். A temple in every country. மரீஇ யதோரால். May you know--or know --know you what has happened. வாளால்வெட்டினான். He cut with a sword. அரசனாலாகியமனை. A house built by the king. 6)

uṭṉ (p. 59) s. A particle of time and place used in combination with other words and expressing co-existence, accompaniment--a form of the third case or the social ablative, மூன்றாம்வேற்றுமையின்சொல்லு ருபு. 2. Instantly, immediately, at once, அப்பொழுதே. உடனாளி, appel. noun. Companion, co-partner, கூட்டாளி. 2. (Rott.) A man of property. உடனிகழ்ச்சி--உடனிகழ்தல்--உ டனிகழ்வு, v. noun. Co-existing, happening simultaneously. 2. A term in grammar implying co-existence, concomitan cy. உடனிகழ்ச்சிப்பொருள். ஒடுவென்பதுடனிகழ்வைக்காட்டும். The particle ஒடு shows accompaniment. உடனிலைமயக்கம்--உடனிலைமெய் மயக்கம், s. [in orthography.] The combination of two consonants of the same kind--as அக்கம், அச்சம், opp. to வேற்றுநிலை மெய்மயக்கம். உடனுக்குடனே. The very instant, at the very juncture, immediately succeeding another event. பாம்புகடித்தவுடனுக்குடனேபிரயோகம்பண்ணிக் கொண்டான். He applied the remedy as soon as the snake bit him. உடனுற்றவன், s. A servant of the same class with another. உடனே, adv. Immediately. 2. prep. With, together with. ஒருசாமமானவுடனே. Immediately after the first watch. அவனதைச்சொன்னவுடனே. As soon as he had said it. என்னுடனேவா. Come along with me. உடனொத்தபங்காளி, s. An equal sharer. உடனொத்தவன், s. An equal, a fellow, an acquaintance, a compeer. உடன்கட்டையேற, inf. To ascend the funeral pile--as a Hindu widow with her deceased husband, அனுமரணம டைய; [ex கட்டை, log of wood.] உடன்கூட்டு, s. Co-partnership, fellowship, உடன்சேர்க்கை. உடன்கூட்டாளி, s. Co-partner, participator. உடன்கை. [prop. உடனே.] Immediately succeeding, just after, as soon as. வேலைசெய்துமுடிந்தவுடன்கையிலேகாசுகிடைக் கும். The wages will be paid as soon as the work is done. உடன்பங்காளி, s. A joint-sharer or participator, a co-partner, கூட்டுப்பங் காளி. 2. A co-heir, joint-heir, a brother's sons having a right to share in the family property, உடன்சுதந்தரவாளி. உடன்பங்கு, s. A joint-share, equal share (whether in trade, inheritance, land or otherwise), participation, joint-heirship, கூட்டுப்பங்கு. உடன்பட, inf. [com. உடம்பட.] To agree, assent, consent, acquiesce, harmonize with, சம்மதிப்பட. 2. To engage, contract, form a compact, பொருந்த. 3. To undertake, enter upon, உடம்படிக்கை செய்ய. 4. To answer in the affirmative, மறாதிருக்க. 5. To be privy to, to have a hand in, சேர. 6. To yield, submit, comply, இசைய. உடன்படிக்கை, s. [com. உடம்ப டிக்கை.] A contract, agreement, compact, covenant, engagement, &c., written or verbal, சம்மதிப்பத்திரம். 2. A promise, assurance, உறுதிப்பாடு. உடன்படுத்த, inf. To induce consent, to make willing, சம்மதிப்படுத்த. 2. To unite, reconcile, இசைவிக்க. உடன்படுவிலக்கு, s. A figure of speech by which a negation is couched in affirmative words--as அப்போதடுப்ப தறியேனருள்செய்ய இப்போதிவளுமிசைகின்றாள்-தப்பில், பொருளோபுகழோதரப்போவீர்மாலை இரு ளோநிலவோவெழும். (அலங்காரம்.) உடன்பட்டகடமை, s. A covenanted obligation. உடன்பாடு--உடம்பாடு, s. Harmony, concord, union, fellowship, agreement, பொருத்தம். 2. Compact, covenant, engagement, உடம்படிக்கை. 3. Consent, assent, compliance, acquiescence, சம்மதிக் கை. 4. Being concerned in, complicity, உடந்தை. 5. Affirmation, மறாமை. 6. [in grammar.] Positive or affirmative--as opposed to negative terms, or negative forms of expression, விதி. உடம்பாடிலாதவர்வாழ்க்கைகுடங்கருட்பாம்போ டுடனுறைந்தற்று. Those who live in discord are as if enclosed in a vessel with a live snake. உடன்பாட்டுவினை, s. A verb in the affirmative form, விதிவினை. உடன்பிறந்தவர்கள்--உடன்பிறந் தார், s. Own full brothers or sisters. உடன்பிறந்தார்சுற்றத்தாரென்றிருக்கவேண்டாம். Because born with you, do not imagine them to be your friends. உடன்பிறப்பு, s. [impr. உடப்பிறப் பு.] Connascence, கூடப்பிறக்கை. 2. Offspring of the same parents, an own brother or sister. 87)

uṭai (p. 59) s. Wealth, செல்வம். 2. Owning, belonging to, being owned, possessed, உடைமை. This word is conjugated as a symbolic verb, in the various inflections of which, or in the abstract form உடைமை, it chiefly obtains; when used as a qualifying prefix in its simple form, except as a participle, it requires the reduplication of the hard letters. பாட்டுடைத்தலைவன், s. The patron of a poem to whom it is addressed. 2. The hero of a poem. உடைப்பெருஞ்செல்வர், s. Those possessed of great wealth. உடைத்து. Third person sing. neut. of a symbolic verb often used appellatively with ஆகுதல். It has, possesses, belongs to, is subject to. இது அவற்குடைத்து. This belongs to him. மகிமையுடைத்தானமோட்சம். Glorious bliss. அச்சாணியன்னாருடைத்து. (The world) possessing persons as important (to society) as the linch pin is to a chariot. (குறள்.) யாக்கைஅழிவுடைத்தாயிருக்கின்றது. The body is perishable. உடைத்தானவன், s. A proprietor, possessor, one subject to.--Note. This form, though a solecism, is allowed. உடைய. The participle of the verb, (1) used as a form of the sixth or possessive case, ஆறாம்வேற்றுமைச்சொல்லுரு பு--as என்னுடையபொருள், my property. 2. Affixed to nouns it governs the accusative case expressed or understood--as மரத்தையுடையவன், the owner of the tree. Sometimes it is annexed to the dative --as பொருளுக்குடையவன், an heir. என்னுடையது. It is mine. மணமுடையபூ, s. A fragrant flower. மரத்தினுடையகொம்பு, s. The branch of a tree. உடையவன்--உடையான், (third pers. masc. sing.) He has, he possesses, (often used appellatively). 2. appel. n. He who has, he who possesses. (a) the owner, the possessor, (b) the Supreme Being, (c) a rich man, (d) a king, a lord, (e) the master of the house. உடையார், s. The rich, the wealthy, the opulent. 2. [prov.] A district officer. 3. A title among some tribes of Hindus. உடையார்முன்னில்லார்போல். Like the poor in the presence of the wealthy. ஆஸ்திக்குடையவன், s. An heir. மண்ணுடையான், s. A potter, குயவன். ஆஸ்தியுடையவன், s. A proprietor. ஊருடையார், s. A district officer, a registrar of land, &c. வீட்டுடையான், s. The master of a house, the husband. 99)

urupu (p. 65) s. Form, shape, வடிவம். 2. [in grammar.] A class of particles comprising four kinds, viz.: 1. வேற்றுமையு ருபு, the particles which form the declensions. 2. வினையுருபு, those that form the inflections of verbs including three species, (a) விகுதி, verbal terminations. (b.) இடை நிலை, characteristics of tense and several other intervening particles in the formation of verbs, derivative nouns, &c. 3. சாரியை, auxiliary, component particles employed in the formation of the two classes of verbs. 4. ஒப்புருபு, particles of terms of comparison. 5. The relative participles, ஆகிய, ஆன, &c., affixed to nouns to make adjectives of them. உருபுத்தொகை, s. The suppression of the characteristics of the cases --as மரநுனி. உருபுப்புணர்ச்சி, s. eẕuvāy (p. 75) s. Beginning, origin, source, cause, ஆதி. 2. [in grammar.] The nominative case, the subject, முதல்வேற்று மை; [ex எழு, rising, et வாய், place.] எழுவாயும்பயனிலையும். The nominative and its verb, or other concluding word.--Note. In Tamil the substantive verb is rarely used. இந்தக்கதைக்கெழுவாயென்ன. What gave rise to this affair? எழுவாயுருபு--எழுவாய்வேற்றுமை, s. The first, or nominative case, முதல் வேற்றுமை.--Note. The words ஆனவன், ஆனது, &c., which represent the nominative case are rarely expressed but understood. எழுவாயெழுஞ்சனி, s. ēktēcm (p. 76) s. Rareness, scarceness, a rare, extraordinary or prodigious occurrence, அருமை. 2. Anomaly, difference, excentricity, வேற்றுமை. 3. A blunder, a mistake; difference as above or below the mark; greater or less, disparity; unfitness, incongruity, disagreement, inconsistency, ஒவ்வாமை. 4. Exception to a general rule, ஒரோவிடத்துவிதிபிறழ்வு. 5. Undefinedness, uncertainty, fickleness, சந்தேகம். ஏகதேசத்திலுநினைத்திருக்கவில்லை. I never even once thought of it. ஏகதேசமில்லை. It is without error, not different, exact. இந்தநிலமேகதேசமாயிருக்கிறது. This ground is uneven. அதற்குமிதற்குமிகவுமேகதேசம். There is a great difference between that and this. இங்கேநின்றேகதேசமாய்ப்பேசப்படாது. Don't use scurrilous language here. 11)

ēẕu (p. 79) . Seven, septuple, seven fold, ஓரெண்.--Note. Seven is considered a special or sacred number. As a prefix it is often எழு or ஏழ். எழுகடல்--ஏழ்கடல், s. The seven oceans. எழுநிலைக்கோபுரம், s. A tower seven stories high. எழுநிலைமாடம், s. A palace seven stories high, lit. with seven door frames one above another. எழுபிறப்பு--ஏழ்பவம்--ஏழ்பிறப் பு, s. Other five kinds are used in witchcraft, viz.: 1. மிளகு, pepper. 2. வெந்தயம், dill. 3. ஓமம், cardamom. 4. வெள்ளுள்ளி, garlic. 5. பெருங் காயம், assaf&oe;tida. ஐங்காயத்தூள்--ஐங்காயவுண்டை, s. Powders of five ingredients given to women after child-birth, ஓர்மருந்து. ஐங்குரவர், s. The five superiors, ஐம்பெரியோர், viz.: King, அரசன்; guru, குரு; father, பிதா; mother, மாதா and elder brother, தமயன். In some classifications, உபாத்தியாயன் is placed instead of மாதா. ஐங்குழு, s. The five confidential servants of a king, அரசர்க்குக்குழு, viz.: 1. மந்தியர், ministers. 2. புரோகிதர், priests. 3. சேனாபதியர், generals. 4. தூதர், ambassadors. 5. சாரணர், spies. ஐங்கோணம், s. A pentagon, quinquangular figure, பஞ்சகோணம். ஐஞ்ஞூறு, s. Five-hundred, ஐந் நூறு. ஐந்தரு, s. The five trees in the world of Indra, பஞ்சதாரு, viz.: 1. அரிச்சந்த னம். 2. கற்பகம். 3. சந்தானம். 4. பாரிசாதம். 5. மந்தாரம். ஐந்தருநாதன், s. Indra, lord of the five trees in the celestial world, which yield whatever is asked or desired of them, இந்திரன். (p.) ஐந்தலைநாகம், s. A fabulous fiveheaded cobra, of which each head is supposed to contain a very precious gem. It is said to be found in mountainous districts and to have the power of flying. ஐந்தவித்தல், s. The control of the senses, ஐம்பொறியடக்கல். ஐந்தவித்தானாற் றலகல்விசும்புளார்கோமானிந்திர னேசாலுங்கரி. Indra, the god of the celestials, is a living monument of the wonderful power of those who control the five senses. (குறள்.) ஐந்தனுருபு, s. The fifth case (இன்) --one of the ablatives denoting procession, similitude, limit, and means, ஐந்தாம் வேற்றுமையுருபு. மலையின்வீழருவி. Torrents rushing from the mountains. காக்கையிற்கரிதுகளம்பழம். The களா berry is as black as a crow. மதுரையின்வடக்குச்சிதம்பரம். Sethamparam is situated to the north of Madura. கல்வியிற்பெரியன்கம்பன். Kampan made himself great by learning. ஐந்தாங்கால், s. The first post of the marriage shed when planted on the fifth day before the marriage, the third, fifth, or seventh day being chosen, as it may be lucky or otherwise, according to astrological calculation, மணப்பந்தரின் ஐந்தாங்கால். ஐந்தானம், s. The fifth lunar asterism, மிருகசீரிடம். (p.) ஐந்திணை, s. The five kinds of land, &c., ஐவகைநிலம். (See திணை.) 2. The closest friendship or love between husbands and wives, அன்புடைக்காமம். (p.) ஐந்திணைச்செய்யுள், s. A poem in which the five different kinds of soil are described and illustrated--one of the ninety-six பிரபந்தம், ஓர்பிரபந்தம். (p.) ஐந்துருவாணி, s. A shaft connecting the floors or stages of a car. See அ ஞ்சுருவாணி. ஐந்துறுப்படக்கி, s. The tortoise, ஆமை. (p.) ஐந்தொகைவினா, s. [in arithmetic.] The rule of five or double rule of three, ஓர்வகையெண்வினா. ஐந்தொழில், s. The five divine operations, பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், viz.: 1. சிருஷ்டி, creation or reproduction. 2. ஸ்திதி, preservation. 3. சங்காரம், destruction, reduction of things to their primitive elements. 4. திரோபவம், that act of the deity by which he conceals from the sentient soul its future destiny for purposes of moral discipline; concealing, obscuring; i. e. involving the soul in ignorance or illusion by means of magic. 5. அனுக்கிரகம், grace, the various means adopted for the deliverance of the soul from the power of illusion and consequent transmigrations. See கிருத்தியம். ஐமீன், s. The thirteenth lunar asterism, அத்தநாள். (p.) ஐமுகன்--ஐயானனன், s. Siva, the five-faced, சிவன். (p.) ஐமுகாஸ்திரம், s. A five-pointed arrow, பஞ்சமுகாஸ்திரம். (p.) ஐம்பது, s. Fifty. ஐம்பத்தொன்று, s. Fifty-one. ஐம்பால், s. [in grammar.] The five பால், or the genders and numbers, ஐந்து பால். 2. The five modes of dressing a woman's hair, ஐவகையாகமயிர்முடிக்கை. 3. The hair of a female, மகளிர்கூந்தல். See பால். (p.) ஐம்புலம்--ஐம்புலன், s. The five senses, பஞ்சவிஷயம். ஐம்புலத்தடங்கான், s. He who is not comprehensible by the five senses-God, கடவுள். (p.) ஐம்புலம்வென்றோர், s. Ascetics, holy persons, முனிவர். (p.) ஐம்புலனடக்கல். Subjugation of the five senses. ஐம்புலனுகர்ச்சியினிறப்பன, s. The five kinds of creatures which perish by means of the senses, viz.: 1. சுவையரல்--மீன், fish, by the taste in catching at the bait. 2. நாற்றத்தால்-வண்டு, beetles, by the smell. 3. ஊற்றினால்-யானை, elephants, by copulation. 4. ஓசையால்-அசுணம், a species of bird by harsh sounds. 5. ஒளியால்-விட்டில், a species of insect, attracted by the light. ஐம்புலன்விழையான், s. An ascetic, முனிவன். (p.) ஐம்புலாதி, s. [prov.] Anxiousness, being full of cares. ஐம்பூதம், s. The five elements, பஞ்சபூதம். ஐம்பொறி, s. The five organs of sense, பஞ்சேந்திரியம். ஐம்பொறிநுகர்ச்சி, s. A bear--so called from the prehensile power of his four feet and mouth, கரடி. (p.) ஐவிரலி, s. [commonly ஐவேலி.] A creeping plant whose leaf is supposed to resemble the fingers, a pentadactyle, ஓர்கொடி, Bryonia laciniosa, L.-Note. In this plant the god Siva is said to have concealed himself when pursued by பஸ்மாசுரன், who had, by penance, obtained from him, as a boon, power to destroy all on whose head he should place his hand. ஐவிரல், s. oṭu (p. 81) . A poetic form of the third case or social ablative, sometimes also used as an instrumental-meaning with, or by, மூன்றாம்வேற்றுமையுருபு. 2. A poetic expletive, ஓரிடைச்சொல். போதொடுபொதுள. The flowers being close. ஊசியொடுகுயின்றதூ சும்பட்டும். Cotton and silk sewed with a needle. கொடியொடுதுவக்குண்டான். He became entangled in a creeper. அவனொடுவந்தான். He came with him. 47)

oṟṟumai (p. 84) s. Union, coalescence, concord, contact, agreement, unison, ஒரு மை. 2. Oneness, sameness, participation of the same qualities, வேறன்மை. 3. Peculiarity, peculiar rights, relation, propriety, உரிமை. 4. Application of mind to one object, close attention, marking with the mind, மனமொன்றுகை. 5. Compound, mixture, கலப்பு. ஒற்றுமைகொள்ளுநெஞ்சனாய். Having the powers of mind concentrated in divine meditation-- (சேதுப்.) எல்லாருமொற்றுமைப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். They are all closely united. தெய்வவொற்றுமையிருந்தால் If providence favor-ஒற்றுமைகோடல், v. noun. Living in peace with others--one of the ten வேளாண்மைமாந்தரியல்பு. ஒற்றுமைநயம், s. [in grammar.] The agent, the subject of a verb, வினைமுதல். 5. The cases of nouns depending in construction on verbs, and not on nouns, வினைகொண்டுவேற்றுமை முடிவது. Wils. p. 213. KARAKA. The six grammatical காரகம் are: 1. கருத்தாகாரகம், nominative case to a verb--as சாத்தன்சேர்ந்தான். 2. கருமகாரகம், objective case, governed by a verb--as சாத்தானைச்சேர்ந்தான். 3. கருவிகாரகம், instrumental ablative, followed by a verb-as வாளால்வெட்டினான். 4. கோளிக்காரகம், dative case, depending on a verb--as சாத்தானுக்குக் கொடுத்தான். 5. அவதிக்காரகம், ablative of motion--as சாத்தனிற்பிரிந்தான். 6. இடக்காரகம், local ablative--as சாத்தனிடஞ்சென்றான். காரகக்கருவி, s. Any of the காரகவேது, in operation, as distinguished from ஞாபகக்கருவி. காரகத்துணைக்கருவி, s. Instruments, &c.--as the wheel of the potter, தொழிற் றுணைக்காரணம். காரகநிமித்தக்கருவி, s. The agent of an action, செய்கையின்நிமித்தகாரணம். காரகமுதற்கருவி, s. The proximate cause--as the clay for a pot, செய்கையின் முதற்காரணம். காரகவேது, s. The three causes in the performance of an action, as காரகக் கருவி. 2. [in rhetoric.] Assigning extraordinary causes in accounting for an event; one of the two kinds of ஏதுவலங் காரம், the other being ஞாபகவேது. காரகன், s. kālam (p. 104) s. Time. duration, பொழுது-Note. In Hindu philosophy, காலம் is said by the Saivas to have proceeded from மோகினி Maya, and to be a co-efficient cause with Siva in the acts of creation, preservation and destruction. It is Time personified, and according to the Hindu metaphysicians, one of the seven வித்தியாத் துவம். (சிவ. சி.) 2. Season of the year or life; also a specific time of the day, பருவம். 3. A seasonable or proper time, opportunity, season, சமயம். Wils. p. 216. KALA. 4. Day-break, விடியல். 5. (fig.) (c.) The time appointed for death, as distinguished from that for accident death, முடிவு. 6. [in gram.] Tense; also, the characteristic of a tense, வினையின்காலம். The three tenses are, இறந்தகாலம், எதிர்காலம், நிகழ்காலம். 7. [in music.] The three measure--as (1.) விளம் பம், slow. (2.) துரிதம், quick. &c. (3.) மத் திமம், the medium. 8. Epoch, era, யுகம். 9. Weather, காலவியல்பு. காலத்துக்குத்தக்ககோலம். Adapting one's self to the times. காலத்துக்குத்தக்கதாய்நடக்க. inf. To live according to circumstances. காலம்போம்வார்த்தைநிற்கும். Time files, but words remain. காலகதி, s. Events of time, காலநடை. காலகதியை யாவருங் கடக்கமாட்டார்கள். None cane escape the events of time. காலகருமம்--காலகன்மம், s. Employments, duties, &c., appropriate to an age, time, season, stage of life, &c., காலத்துக் குரியசெய்கை. காலக்கிரமம், s. The course of time; chronological order, காலவொழுங்கு. காலக்கிரயம், s. The price of the articles for the time being; current or market price, காலவிலை. காலக்குறி, s. Signs of the time. காலக்கொடுமை, s. The evils, calamities, &c., of time. காலங்கண்டவன், s. An experienced man; an aged person. காலங்கரந்தபெயரெச்சம், s. [in gram.] A relative participle without the characteristics of the tenses--as in கொல் யானை. காலங்கழிக்க, inf. To pass time கா லம்போக்க. காலங்கழிய, inf. To pass--as time, நாட்கழிய. காலங்கூட, inf. [local.] To die. காலசக்கரம், s. The different number of years of influence ascribed to the respective planets as operative on the lives of persons, ஆயுள்நியதிச்சக்கரம். 2. The aggregate of the years of the nine planets according to their respective influence, கிரகபலச்சக்கரம். 3. Period or term of life, ஆயுட்காலம். Wils. p. 216. KALACHAKRA.. அவனுக்குக்காலச்சக்கரமுடிவுவந்துவிட்டது. The end of his term is come. காலசங்கதி, s. Intelligence, news or events of the time or the day. காலசங்கை, s. Guess of time from mere inspection, காலஉத்தேசம். 2. Reckoning of time, காலக்கணக்கு. (p.) காலசந்தி, s. The daily morning worship; also applicable to that at noon and evening. 2. The interval between any two yugas, kalpas, &c. See கற்பம் and சந்தி. திரிகாலசந்தி, s. Worship in the morning, at noon and in the evening. காலசுகம், s. Favorableness of the time, astrologically and superstitiously considered. காலஞ்செல்ல, inf. To depart this life, to die. 2. [prov.] To be late. காலக்ஷயம்--காலட்சயம், s. Passing one's time or days, காலக்கழிவு. காலக்ஷேபம்--காலட்சேபம் s. Passing one's time or days; circumstances, welfare, &c., காலங்கழிக்கை. 2. Means of subsistence, சீவனம். Wils. p. 216. KALAKSHEPA. 3. [among the Vaishnavas.] The reading of the sacred books, திருவாய் மொழியோதல். உமதுகாலட்சேபம் எப்படி. How do you do; i.e. how are your affairs? காலதருமம்--காலதன்மம், s. A small portion of time, காலத்தின்நுண்ணியபங்கு. காலநெடுமை--நெடுங்காலம், s. Length of time, a long time. காலநேமி, s. An Asura, ஓர் அசுரன். Wils. p. 217. KALANEMI. காலநேரம், s. Time in reference to the influences of planets upon the fortune, health, &c., of a person. காலநோக்காடு, s. [prov. in child-birth.] Natural and timely labor. காலந்தள்ள, inf. To pass one's days, to pass one's time, to maintain one's self, to live, காலம்போக்க. காலப்பரிச்சேதம், s. Discernment--as to the time of an event or the existences of a thing. It is one of the three பரிச்சேதம் modes of ascertaining facts. காலபரிபாகம், s. The maturity of the soul, or time for its attaining bliss, having eliminated its good and evil propensities. காலபேதம்--காலவித்தியாசம்--கால வேற்றுமை, s. Difference of time with respect to the changes it produces. காலபோகம், s. A crop of grain or fruits in the proper season. 2. The enjoyment or suffering resulting from previous moral actions, to which a living being at distant times is subjected, காலப் பயனுகர்வு. காலப்பெயர், s. Nouns or names of time--as year, month. 2. Nouns derived from names of time--as பங்குனன் (one born in the பங்குனி month). காலப்பெயர்ச்சி, s. Change of season or monsoon; unseasonable weather, கால விகற்பம். காலமயக்கம்--காலமயக்கு, s. [in gram.] An improper use of the tenses, காலவழு. 2. An allowed deviation in the use of tenses, காலவழுவமைதி. காலமலைவு, s. Confusion of statement in regard to time--as asserting that the lotus blooms in the evening, or the lily during the day. காலமல்லாக்காலம், s. An unfortunate, fatal time; an unseasonable time, அகாலம். காலமழை, s. Rain in the proper season, பருவத்திற்பெய்யுமழை. காலமறிய, inf. To know the times so as to adapt one's self to them, காலவகைய றிய. 2. To know things past, present or future intuitively or by apiritual sight --as yogis, காலவியற்கையறிய. காலமாறு, Morning by morning, every morning, காலைதோறும். (c.). காலமானம், s. [in arith.] Time measure. காலமிருத்து, s. Death at the destined season--as distinguished from accidental death, விதித்தகாலத்திலடையுமரணம். காலமே--காலத்தாலே. In the morning, early, betimes. காலம்பண்ண--காலம்பண்ணிப்போக, inf. To finish one's time, to die. காலம்பார்க்க, inf. To look or watch for a proper time or opportunity, சமயம் பார்க்க. காலம்புரள, inf. To present a manifest revolution--as in the order of things; to be irregular, deranged, &c.--as the events of a time--as toddy-drawers seen riding in palankeens, &c. காலம்போக்க, inf. To pass the times. 2. To while away time. காலவகை, s. Seasons, times, காலக் கூறுபாடு. 2. Circumstances depending on time, காலவேறுபாடு. காலவர்த்தமானம், s. Events of the times. காலவழக்கம், s. Customs of the times. காலவழு, s. [in gram.] An improper use of the tenses--as the past for the future, &c., காலக்குற்றம். காலவாகுபெயர், s. [in gram.] Nouns of time or portions of time, used by metonymy for what is intimately connected with time--as கார்த்திகை, the name of a month, for a plant which mostly blossoms during the month. காலவிடைநிலை, s. [in gram.] Characteristics of tenses, காலத்தைக்காட்டுமிடை நிலை. They are 1. த், ட், ற், and இன் for the past. 2. ஆநின்று, கின்று and கிறு for the present. 3. ப், ல், for the future. There are some other characteristics-as மன், இசின், ய், இ, ன், &c. காலவிரைவு, v. noun. Swiftness or rapid flight of time. காலாகாலம், s. Times seasonable and unseasonable, auspicious and inauspicious, நற்காலந்துர்க்காலம். 2. One time or another, not often, not frequently. (c.) காலாக்கினி, s. The fire which is to destroy the world at the end of the great yuga; a deluge-fire said to be in reserve in the nethermost part of the earth. Wils. p. 218. KALAGNI. 2. One of the two-hundred and twenty-four புவ னம் under the regency of Kálágni. காலாக்கினியுருத்திரம், s. One of the thirty-two உபநிடதம். காலாக்கினியுருத்திரர், s. Rudra or the deity in the lowest region, in charge of the deluge-fire. There are ten subordinate Rudras, who resemble their chief. காலாந்தம், s. The end of time, கால முடிவு; [ex. அந்தம்.] காலாந்தரம், s. Intermediate space of time, process of time, காலநடை. 2. Meanwhile, காலவிடை; [ex அந்தரம், interval.] காலேச்சுரவாதம், s. The metaphysical philosophy which maintains that Time is God. காலோசிதம், s. A fit, proper time, உச் சிதகாலம்; [ex உசிதம்.] அந்தியகாலம், s. The time of death. ஆங்கால மெய்வருந்த வேண்டா வதுதானே தேங்காய்க் கிளநீர்போற் சேருமே, போங்காலம் காட்டானை தின்ற கனியதுபோ லாகுமே தேட்டாளன் றேடுந் தனம். Wealth shall or itself accumulate at the appointed time of increase, as the liquor within a cocoanut, and no toll is required; but at the fixed time for ruin, the riches of a hard-working man shall pass away like the contents of a woodapple eaten by an elephant. எக்காலமும். At what time soever, always. சாங்காலம், s. The time of death or ruin. திரிகாலம்--முக்காலம், s. The three divisions of time, present, past, and future. 2.The three tenses of a verb. திரிசந்திகாலம். The three parts or divisions of the day: viz., காலை, morning. உச்சி, noon. மாலை, evening. புண்ணியகாலம், s. See under புண்ணி யம். போங்காலம், s. The time of separation or ruin. 155) *
