uṟṇṭai (p. 67) s. Opposition, dissension, முரட்டுத்தனம். 2. Annoying, harassing, vexing; mischievous, or offensive, sport--as pinching, pushing, &c., தொந்தரவு செய்கை. 3. A kind of offensive smell--as of bugs, some kind of fish, rancid ghee, &c., துர்க்கந்தம். (c.) உறண்டைக்குநிற்க, inf. To disagree, dissent. உறண்டைத்தனம், s. A gross, sour disposition, முரண்டுத்தனம். உறண்டைநாற்றம், s. Stink, stench, offensive effluvia--as of dry fish, any thing rancid, &c. உறண்டையடிக்க--உறண்டைவீச, inf. To smell offensively-as dried fish, &c., துர்க்கந்தம்வீச. உறண்டையாட--உறண்டையிட, inf. To annoy, harass, vex, அலைக்கழிவு செய்ய. 71)

uṇṭi (p. 59) s. Food, sustenance, eatables, உணவு. 2. Boiled rice, சோறு. 3. The food of carnivorous animals, இரை. (நிகண்டு and திவாகரம்.) 4. (பாரதிதீ.) The food of birds and beasts in general, பற வைவிலங்கிவற்றினுணவு. Four kinds of eating are enumerated, viz.: 1. உண்டல், eating without mastication--as boiled rice, &c. 2. தின்றல், masticating, chewing--as meat, curries, &c. 3. நக்கல், licking--as honey, molasses, lapping. 4. பருகல், drinking, sucking--as a child. Sometimes a fifth is added, viz.: மென்றல், chewing--as spices, pungents, leaves, &c. kept in the mouth. உண்டிசுருங்குதல்பெண்டிர்க்கழகு. It is becoming in a woman to eat little. பேருண்டி, s. A principal meal-as dinner, &c., போசனம். 2. Eating to excess, gluttony, gormandizing, பெருந் தீன். சிற்றுண்டி, s. A light meal--as luncheon, tiffin, பலகாரம். 2. Eating sparingly, சிறுதீன். 3. A kind of small cake, அப்பவருக்கத்தொன்று. 122)

uruvu (p. 65) கிறேன், உருவினேன், வேன், உருவ, v. a. To unsheath, draw out of a case or sheath, வாள்முதலியவற்றையுருவ. 2. To draw between the finger and the thumb--as a hair, thread, straw, &c., to free it from oil, moisture, &c.; or a necklace, to remove the beads; or a tamarind twig, to remove the leaves, &c., தழைமுதலிய வுருவ. 3. To draw the hand with pressure down a limb, or any part of the body, to allay pain, inflammation, &c., also down a pole, or other cylindrical body, சுளுக்குமுதலி யவற்றிற்குஉருவ. 4. To loosen or tighten a noose, கயிற்றையுருவ. 5. To pierce through, penetrate, pass through, enter, or transfix, --as an arrow, a needle, &c., ஊடுருவ. உருவினவாளுடனேவந்தான். He came with a drawn sword. நெஞ்சிலம்புபட்டுருவிற்று. The arrow reached the heart and pierced it. மெல்லெனப்பாயுந்தண்ணீர்கல்லையுமுருவப்பாயும். Gently flowing water will wear away even a rock. அவன்மார்பையுருவிப்புறப்பட்டது. (The dart) entered his breast and passed through him. கத்தியையுருவினான். He drew his sword. கீரையையுருவிப்போடு. Strip off the potherbs or greens. ஆற்றையுருவநடக்க. To ford, or wade through a river. உருவக்குத்த, inf. To stab, pierce, transpierce, transfix. உருவத்துளைக்க, inf. To bore through, or into, as with an instrument, or as beetles and other insects. உருவத்தைக்க, inf. To stitch through. 2. To nail through, transfix. 3. To pierce, or pass through--as a thorn, a weapon, a nail, &c.; ex. ஆணியுரு வத்தைத்தது, the nail is gone through. உருவுண்டுபோக, inf. To slip off-as beads from a string, to become loose, or to slip through, or become tight as a noose. உருவுதடம், s. [prov.] A noose, சுருக்கு. உருவொளி, s. Transparency, translucency. 41)

ūkku (p. 69) கிறேன், ஊக்கினேன், வே ன், ஊக்க, v. a. To commence with spirit, முயல. 2. To execute with energy, முயன்று செய்ய. 3. To excite to action, rouse, to direct, எழுப்ப. 4. v. n. To ascend, ஏற. (p.) நுனிக்கொம்பரேறினாரஃதிறந்தூக்கினுயிர்க்கிறுதியாகி விடும். If one who has already ascended to the extremity of a bough, goes beyond, his life will be at an end. (குறள்.) அறவினையையூக்கி. Entering with energy on the practice of virtue. (நாலடி.) உடைத்தம்வலியறியாரூக்கத்தினூக்கி. With spirit commencing (war), ignorant of their own strength-- (குறள்.) நல்லாற்றினூக்கின். There is much trouble in that affair. உலைச்சற்பட, inf. To be troubled, harassed, disordered, ruined, &c. உலைச்சற்படுத்த, inf. To trouble, harass, derange, ruin, &c. 32)

uḷu (p. 67) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To be worm-eaten--as wood, to be eaten out by worms, insects, weevils--as grain, seeds, or other cold body, மரமுதலியவையுளுக்க. 2. To perish as flour, to become spoiled, மாவாயுளுக்க. இந்தமரமுழுதுமுளுத்துப்போயிற்று. This wood in entirely worm-eaten. இச்சரீரமுப்பிருந்தபாண்டம்போலுளுத்துப்போம்.... The body becomes corroded like a vessel in which salt is kept. உளுத்ததுவரை, s. The worm-eaten seed of the Cajan shrub, Cajanus Indicus. உளுப்பு, v. noun. Being wormeaten, உளுக்கை. உளுப்புத்தாவ, inf. To begin to be worm-eaten. 42)

urumm (p. 65) s. Heat of the sun, the heat of the atmosphere, sultriness, closeness, உஷ்ணம். 2. Noon, noon-day, மத்தி யானம். விட்டபாம்புசெத்துப்போமுருமத்திலேன்போறீர்?... Why do you go out in the middle of the day when it is so hot, that a snake let loose would die? உருமகாலம், s. The hot season. உருமத்துக்குவிட, inf. [prov.] To cease at noon, as from learning, labor, &c., மத்தியானநேரத்தில்விட. உருமவிடுதி, s. [prov.] The midday release, cessation, &c. உருமவேளை, s. Noon, mid-day. உருமிக்க, inf.
