ēntu (p. 79) கிறேன், ஏந்தினேன், வேன், ஏந்த, v. a. To sustain, support, hold up, to carry in the hand--as a weapon, &c., to endure, to sustain a character, reputation, &c.; to support--as a beam, pillars, &c., தாங்க. 2. To raise or spread out hands --as a beggar; to raise a thing with the hands spread, கையேந்த. 3. To catch or receive in the hands or arms, to receive as flowing water, rain, &c., with the hands or with a vessel in the hands, பாத்திரமுதலி யவற்றையேந்த. 4. To hand up with extended arms, கையிலேந்திக்கொடுக்க. 5. v. n. To be elevated, exalted, உயர. ஏந்தியகொள்கையார். Persons of exalted character. (குறள். அதி. 9.) கையேந்திநிற்க. To stand begging with the arms extended. முன்றானையேந்தியிரத்தல். Spreading a corner of the cloth and begging. ஏந்திக்கொள்ள, inf. To hold up any thing. 2. To give a helping hand. ஏந்திசை, s. [in pros.] One of the three varieties of harmony in a verse consequent on a peculiar combination of metrical feet. ஏந்திசைச்செப்பல், s. The harmony of sounds peculiar to வெண்பா verses composed of வெண்சீர் வெண்டளை; also, a verse of that harmony. ஏந்திசைத்துள்ளல், s. The harmony of sounds peculiar to கலி verses of கலித் தளை; also, a verse of that harmony. ஏந்திசைத்தூங்கல், s. The harmony of sounds peculiar to வஞ்சி verses of ஒன்றியவஞ்சித்தளை; also, a verse of that harmony. ஏந்திசையகவல், s. The harmony of sounds peculiar to அகவல் verses of நேர்நேரியற்றளை; also, a verse of that harmony. ஏந்திழையார், s. Women, the adorned, பெண்கள். (p.) ஏந்துகொம்பு, s. The tusks of an elephant, curved upward and terminating horizontally, யானைக்கொம்பு. 2. A curved palankeen pole, or pole for carrying a load, தாங்குகொம்பு. ஏந்தெழில், s. Surpassing beauty. பிள்ளையேந்த, inf. To take a child from another. 2. To carry a child in the arms. ஏந்தல், v. noun. Holding up, raising, &c., one of the three harmonies. ஏந்தல்வண்ணம், s. A poem in which the same words are repeated for the purposes of clearness and strength, ஓர்சந்தம். ஏந்தானம், s. [prop. ஏந்துதானம்.] A hanging shelf, a rack, grate, shelf to set things on, தூக்கங்கள். 2. The hands, or arms extended forward or locked with another's, to carry a child, a thing, &c., கையிலேந்துகை. ஏந்தானத்திலேகொண்டுபோகிறது. To carry on the hands so extended. ஏந்தி, s. A bearer, supporter, one invested with, கையேந்துபவன்--used in combination only. 23)

With how many yoke of oxen does he plough (his land)? i. e. how many yoke of oxen has he? or how many acres of arable land does he possess? ஏராண்மை, s. Ploughing, tillage, agriculture, உழவு. ஏராளர், s. Husbandmen, agriculturists, உழவர். ஏரின்வாழ்நர்--ஏருழவர்--ஏருழுநர் --ஏர்த்தொழிலர், s. Ploughmen, those who live by the plough, உழவர். ஏருழக்க, inf. To practise husbandry, பயிர்செய்ய. ஏரெழுபது, s. A poem of seventy stanzas in praise of the plopugh by கம்பர், ஓர்நூல். See Ellis. p. 44. (குறள்). ஏரோட்ட, inf. To plough, உழ. ஏர்க்கால், s. The shaft of a plough, கலப்பையின்கால். 2. Shaft of a carriage, வண்டியேர்க்கால். ஏர்ச்சீர், s. Implements of husbandry. 2. The wealth procurable by husbandry. ஏர்ச்சீரில்லாதவன். One who has neither oxen, implements of husbandry, nor seed, corn, &c. ஏர்த்தாயம், s. Ploughing in season. ஏர்த்தொழில், s. Agriculture, husbandry, உழவுத்தொழில். ஏர்நாழி, s. A small circular piece of wood with a hole in the centre to receive the cord வடக்கயிறு by which the ploughman can regulate the depth of the furrows, கலப்பையினோருறுப்பு. ஏர்ப்பண், s. [prov.] The rope for attaching the oxen to the plough, or the plough-beam to the yoke, பூட்டாங்க யிறு. ஏர்ப்பூட்டு, v. noun. Ploughing for the first time in the season, on an auspicious day begun with appropriate ceremonies, ஏர்கட்டுகை. ஏர்ப்பூட்ட, inf. To yoke the oxen to the plough. ஏர்வாரம், s. A share of the produce allowed for the team and agricultural implements used in cultivating the land, ஏர்க்காகக்கொடுக்கும்வாரம். முன்னேர்க்குண்டை, s. The first or best yoke of oxen. பின்னேர், s. The second or hindermost yoke of oxen. பொன்னேர்கட்ட, inf. To plough for the first time in the season on an auspicious day begun with the appropriate ceremonies--as ஏர்ப்பூட்ட. 52)

To stare about, not knowing what to do--as when a great catastrophe has happened, மயங்கிநிற்க. 3. To be amazed, absent-minded, thinking of something else, நினைவுசிதற. ஏமிலாந்தி, s. [prov.] One who is despondent, aghast, thunder-struck, &c., திகைத்துநிற்பவன். 2. An oblivious person, மதிகேடன். 3. An absent staring person, மயக்கமுடையவன். 38)

What is a daughter, what is a mother, what is a wife? (p.) அவனுன்னையப்படிப்பேசவேண்டியதுதேது. Why should he blame you so? அவனுக்கிங்கேதுபணம். Where is there money for him here? இவ்வனத்திலேகுடியேது. How can there be inhabitants in a desert like this? ஏதுவிதமும். By some means or other. ஏதுகாரியம்வந்தாலும். Whatever may happen. ஏதும். Any thing, whatever. கற்பகவிருட்சம் ஏதுந்தரும்.
